One highlight was meeting Ronald Speirs for the first time since the end of the war. Standing in yellow rain slickers on the Normandy coast, the two veterans, all smiles, embraced for photographs. Privately, Winters frowned on Speirs’ shooting of six German prisoners on D-Day, and felt his leadership style was based in part on the men’s fear of him. Yet Speirs, Winters felt, was a top-notch combat soldier and a fine officer, who led his men competently and always did what was asked of him, giving “110 percent to the company.”
~ Larry Alexander
“Above all, kill ’em! We can’t be dragging a lot of prisoners around with us at night. “You know where they are and what to do with them: the officers’ mess and billets and Company of infantry at St. Marie du Mont, the platoon on the gun batteries at St. Martin de Varreville, and all the others. “Go down there and get ’em and kill every last sonofabitching German you find.”
~ David Kenyon Webster (speech/orders that apparently an unnamed captain gave them before D-Day jump)

Very cool! Thank you!
If you want to know what the inside looks like, I did get a picture of Springfield's re-creation of Lincoln's box (complete with only-semi-terrifying wax figures!)
Tumblr media
@fictionadventurer
Since you're posting Lincoln artifacts, I thought you'd appreciate the pictures of Ford's theater and the house that Lincoln died in from the last time I went to D.C (November)

Unfortunately I didn't have time to go inside either building. Maybe next time!

Page 6 ends with Dick drinking cider and tanks arriving. Page 7 would be where Nix arrives with the tanks. Dick said that their friendship was really cemented in Normandy

ok so I'm trying to offload my sister's funko pop collection (I know) for her and selling them on ebay in lot auctions and I was looking at an account that was bidding on a lot of Captain America Civil War figures and it was the Gettysburg History Center
and so I was like....did they accidentally bid on this? was this a mistake because America and Civil War are in the title?
but no they paid immediately and the address I'm shipping to is to an actual History Museum in Gettysburg so. idk what's the deal with that but ok

Hi Jessica!! First of all I must tell ya that your graphics are amazing!!! Would you mind telling which font you used in this Speirs edit? post/735558337290256384/my-best-days-were-as-a-platoon-leader-and-company
Hello there anon!!! Thank you so so much it really means a lot to me.
About the font this is actually the real Ron Speirs handwriting, tbh I'm quite obsessed because it's SO pretty, you can see the full version of the letter he sent to Forrest Guth in 1945 here
Also I used his Military ID card from The Gettysburg Museum Of History collection, you can see the digital version here

Going Cross Country
Tumblr media
The podcast is back after a two-week hiatus due to JT driving to the East Coast and back. Today's episode is all about that eleven-state tour (NV, UT, WY, NE, IA, IL, IN, OH, PA, MD, DE, and back). For those scoring at home, JT drove over 5,500 miles.
Also: Visiting the Gettysburg National Military Park What's the one color you'll see from coast to coast? Happy 41st Anniversary!
Gettyburg is a must-see for the history nerd (guilty). If you can't get there, Juston Scarred from Randomland does a great job outlining the museum and battlefield.
We'll get back to a true writing podcast next week. Have a listen and enjoy!

🌊🧞‍♂️👒 For the random asks
🌊 Dream vacation? I'm torn between the realistic, achievable dream, and reaching for the stars on this one. I'd love to visit the Disney park in Florida again. I've also always wanted to visit Salem, MA. Gettysburg, PA, is a popular hot spot for people who love history and the paranormal, so it scratches two itches at once, and I've been there twice as a kid but I'm dying to go again. Of course, if I'm gonna shoot for the stars, a vacation to somewhere pretty in the U.K. or a trip to Japan would be ideal. I also just really want to go on a road trip and visit all sorts of tourist spots for paranormal and cryptid enthusiasts, i.e. the Mothman Museum in West Virginia.
🧞‍♂️ What's something you're excited for? I'm such a "negative nancy," I admittedly have trouble looking forward to anything about the future. ...Okay, we'll start small—I'm looking forward to warmer weather and hopefully the fun activities that will come with it. Fingers crossed for some good yard sales. 🤞🏻
👒 Do you have a skincare routine? I try to keep up with it somewhat. I like to switch between an exfoliating facial wash and a gentle moisturizing one, and I rub facial moisturizer on after my shower. I generally stay out of the sun and I don't smoke at all or drink much alcohol, so I'm sure that helps lol.

Educational Trips Your Kids Will Love For cheap and best Travel Diaries - https://travelinternationals.com/
Embarking on educational trips with your children is a fantastic way to merge learning with leisure. These outings not only help kids gain new knowledge but also create lasting memories for the entire family. From museums to nature parks, there are countless options to keep young minds engaged and curious. Below are some top picks for educational trips your kids will adore.
1. Science and Discovery Centers
Science museums and discovery centers are a playground for young scientists. Interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and hands-on experiments help kids understand complex concepts in a fun and engaging way. Places like the Exploratorium in San Francisco or the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., are perfect destinations.
2. Historical Landmarks
Introduce your children to history by visiting iconic landmarks. Sites like the Gettysburg Battlefield, the Statue of Liberty, or even the ancient ruins of Pompeii offer lessons in history, culture, and heritage. Storytelling during these trips can make the past come alive for your kids.
3. Zoos and Aquariums
Zoos and aquariums are wonderful for teaching children about biodiversity and the importance of wildlife conservation. These venues offer up-close encounters with animals and marine life, inspiring a love for nature and environmental stewardship.
4. Planetariums and Space Centers
If your child is fascinated by stars and space exploration, a visit to a planetarium or space center is a must. The Kennedy Space Center in Florida and Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles offer immersive experiences that ignite a passion for astronomy and space science.
5. Farm Tours and Botanical Gardens
For a more hands-on learning experience, consider taking your kids to local farms or botanical gardens. They can learn about farming practices, plant life cycles, and sustainable living. These trips also provide opportunities to enjoy nature and understand where food comes from.
Final Thoughts
Educational trips are an investment in your child’s growth and development. They stimulate curiosity, foster critical thinking, and offer unique learning experiences outside the classroom. With a little planning, these trips can be both affordable and unforgettable.

Gettysburg, PA
#7 is extremely important! This city has so much history and so much to do and is definitely in the top 10. The most important thing for me was to visit the museum and read about everything I could, they also have a fantastic gift shop. They also have a really neat thing called the Gettysburg Diorama (photo 2), be sure and take the time to get tickets and watch the 30 minute light show it has to tell.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both times we went here, we stayed at the Wyndham. It is a cute, clean little place that we loved so much we stayed there again.
The cemetery is a neat, peaceful place that you can walk around and read the names of all that passed. There are also lots of unmarked graves that are just numbered, there was so much blood they said that the river in Gettysburg ran red.
Tumblr media
My other favorite thing was we downloaded an app on our phones and paid for a "tour". This took us all around the town of Gettysburg and told you all the history and took us to all the important places where the battle occurred.
Perkins french silk pie is a must! You must, they have wonderful breakfast and dinner as well!
