What's their Signature Scent? feat. Avallum

Been an avalight since their debut hehe. I'm making this a series because I have a lot of scented things (candles, perfume sprays and oils, soaps, lotions, etc.) and so I thought it would be fun to connect them to some VTubers! Since I started this on Twitter/X due to Avallum brainrot, we're gonna start off with them, and then cover other groups later! Hope this isn't too ooc, and hope you enjoy!

Lucien Lunaris (Lucien Lunaris) - Jo Malone’s Red Roses

Luci is a very sweet person. And I don't mean sugary sweet. I'm talking soft sweet - like intimate conversations and complimenting his loved ones type of sweet. That's why this scent fits him very well.

It first smells like the pure essence of fresh red roses, showcasing his very apparent pure love and devotion to those he cherishes.

As this perfume stays on the skin, it gets more honey-lemon-like over time. The honey makes it so that the sweetness lingers, but it's warmer and more cozy, like a big bear hug. Meanwhile, the soft scent of lemon adds a subtle vibrancy or spark to the scent, analogous to Luci's playful and slightly unhinged personality masked behind his dulcet voice.

Although this scent does get more subtle over time, it's still there, like how Luci will always be there for his precious people.

Cassian Floros (Cassian Floros) - Jo Malone’s Orange Blossom

Though I was debating on whether or not Cass would fit Orange Blossom more than Nectarine and Honey from Jo Malone, he definitely is a Jo Malone scent because they do citrus soooo well.

I decided on Orange Blossom because I found that the other one was a little too sweet. I'm not saying Cass isn't sweet, I'm saying that Orange Blossom fits him more.

The freshly peeled orange scent that you can smell from the first spray is very similar to his cheerful manner as he welcomes you to his stream.

This scent later mellows out into a warmer, leafier orange, kind of like you're in an orange orchard on a mildly warm day in spring, surrounded by trees bearing lots of sweet citrus fruit. This transition matches the more calming manner he takes on at times.

Gale Galleon (Gale Galleon) - Fig & Ivy Naturals's Boozy Apple Pie

Initially, I thought of something like a tropical pina colada or a sea breeze ocean smell for Gale's scent, but then I stumbled across this perfume oil on Etsy.

Gale is a warm and friendly person, open to meeting new people and always there to hype up his genmates, even if he jokingly said he hated them a couple minutes before.

This energy is embodied by the aroma of this perfume: warm and cinnamony, like an apple pie fresh out of the oven. It's a welcoming and homey scent.

Accompanied by this are the aromas of cognac and oak. The cognac makes the scent more lively, similar to Gale's very playful and unhinged side. Meanwhile, the oak makes the scent deeper and more homogenous, much like how Gale's multidimensional personality is brought together in the person that he is.

Zander Netherbrand (Zander Netherbrand) - WolvesnWillows's Bourbon Butterscotch

After watching more of his videos, I realized that Zanny's scent is more of a gourmand scent rather than the lavender/musk scent I originally envisioned.

I decided on this due to always seeing his frequent Coffee Date Zatsus and coffee-dessert combination posts. I can definitely envision Zanny with some kind of butterscotch dessert as he's sipping his black coffee.

The perfume starts off with a strong butterscotch aroma - it's dreamy, it's decadent, and it's warm, like a bite of fresh butterscotch cake. Much like Zanny, it gives off a cozy vibe.

As this perfume stays longer on the skin, its original butterscotch smell becomes enhanced with notes of oak and subtly flirtatious cinnamon due to the bourbon component of the scent. To me, this change resembles Zanny's more relaxed, kind of flirty, kind of funny attitude.

Rosco Graves (Rosco Graves) - WolvesnWillows's Strawberry + Vanilla Bourbon

I really wish I had a raspberry scent because I feel like Rosco would fit that so well, but since I don't, I'd say this perfume is quite representative of him.

At first, it starts out as this fresh and energizing strawberry scent infused with vanilla. Imagine taking a bite out of a strawberry tanghulu: a juicy, sweet strawberry underneath a vanilla-flavored sugar crust.

My first impression of Rosco is that he's this zoomer guy with a lot of energy and a refreshing style/attitude. Despite his "tsundere" vibe (emulated by the hard vanilla crust of the tanghulu), you can tell he's a genuinely sweet person (when he wants to be lol).

The perfume later becomes a mellower, teasingly spicy bourbon-vanilla aroma, representing his more calm and earnest side (though it doesn't stop him from having some playful banter with his Roscals!).

It's finally done! Wow, I haven't worked on any fic like this in so long lol. I wish I could work on some more fics, especially my Fairytale series and my oneshots, but I'm currently in the midst of many premed things sadge :( I'll definitely finish them in due time (I especially need to put out all the WIPs I have of ppl who are graduating/have graduated LOL)

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! THANK YOU SOSOSOSOSO MUCH FOR ASKING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long post under the cut

A few things I want to (re)clarify first:

1- He doesn’t have a name, NOT because of any connections to the Nameless Bard, but simply because I couldn’t think of one yet. That being said, his pronouns are he/him

2- The vast majority of his character/story was “made”/created in my head between ~June-August 2024, which is A-prior to Natlan’s release and B- prior to me playing through the Narzissenkreuz storyline. (I promise, any resemblance to Rene de Petrichor is purely coincidental)

3- He’s in a really weird limbo state between canon and oc, au and canon, and canon and original universe. He was originally just “what Decarabian would do in a modern au”, but became an oc via the power of Lots Of Brainrotting. His story only makes sense in a modern AU of Teyvat, but he’s too closely tied to the world and history of Mondstadt (and Teyvat as a whole) to be in a separate universe. Not to mention him being somewhat of a self-insert/sona if I think about it really hard.

4- Most of this au is just Vibes ™, so feel free to let me know if any of this directly contradicts known information about Teyvat. Take any worldbuilding I say with a grain of salt.

With that out of the way:

Assuming this is a Genshin modern au that takes place somewhere post-canon (Traveler plays no significant role in this AU), where the civilizations and societies of Teyvat still exist but with much less emphasis on visions/magic/gods and more emphasis on technology (which may or may not be related):

He (oc) was born somewhere in Mondstadt (or at least grew up there). He started off as a fairly normal guy and had a relatively normal childhood, though was bullied/made fun of for being autistic really into storms/strong weather (which. for the sake of this au, is considered somewhat taboo in Mondstadt.) As he got older he got super into Mondstadt’s history, along with archon-war era Teyvat as a whole.

He went to the Sumeru Akademiya to study it, but then realized he can’t do much with a degree in Old Mondstadt History except become a teacher/professor: So he did exactly that (taught history at the Akademiya for a few years), but realized that A- he didn’t like directly talking to people all day very much and B- his students found him concerning because of his obsession and borderline favoritism over someone who was A- dead for over 2600 years and B- a dictator who was hated by nearly everyone in the city at the time, and is still hated to this day (for many valid reasons).

This is where it starts being relevant that this is a modern au. Left with no other choice, (oc) goes back to Mondstadt, finds somewhere in the city to live, and since there isn’t much else he can do with his level of specialized knowledge, he manages to find a new way to rant about his interests so that other people can know what he can. So he decided to start a youtube channel (or whatever the equivalent of YouTube in this au is.) He doesn’t expect much, since his videos aren’t the best quality and he has no idea what the scope of his target audience is, but somehow he eventually gains a few subscribers. His videos are mostly video essays of him talking in front of a shaky camera and explaining the full history of Mondstadt (along with various other nations from time to time), but every video has him becoming increasingly more unhinged and most of his viewers aren’t actually there for the history lesson, they just find his personality fascinating. (oc) doesn’t really mind, he’s just happy that he has another audience now.

As he gets more popular, he starts having strange… dreams? Visions? About a time that he knows he’s never been before, and a place that only exists in faraway ruins. About a lavish throne and a crumbling spire and isolation and roaring gales and a heavy crown and dying and. At first he excuses it for the natural tendency to have dreams about topics you constantly engage in, but as it keeps happening in increasing frequency and increasing detail, he starts getting concerned. Especially paired with how the weather takes a turn for the worse whenever he doesn’t have a good day (which he is convinced is vice-versa), and voices being even more overwhelming than usual on his rare trips to public spaces (the wind carrying them from afar.)

His viewers start to get concerned too- they start noticing that his eyes start glowing and things start slightly floating up from the shelves in his video backgrounds whenever he gets super into explaining the topic of his videos and at first they think it’s just some kind of cool editing gimmick where he’s playing into the whole “knows so much it’s concerning” aspect. Until he starts doing it on a livestream and as soon as they point it out to him, they realize that he. Has not noticed it at all until now. He immediately ends the stream and stares at the wall in horror. What is happening to him?

So he tries to find out. He tries putting pieces together: Of everything he knows about Old Mondstadt, and Decarabian, and the rebellion, and the god of time that might have been involved with it all somehow. With that combined with the mysterious and unexplained dreams he’s been having, he comes up with some kind of conclusion: that Decarabian is alive, somehow. By this point his videos are less “ex-professor giving a lecture on Old Mond’s history” type content and more. Full on conspiracy theorist. Frantic scribbles and red strings and sticky notes and thumbtacks line most of his room, and eventually his whole [house/apartment/living space] too. It ends up making his videos more popular- other people start wanting to find out the mystery almost as much as he does. By now his channel has ~40-50k subscribers (which for context, considering what we see of Teyvat’s population, is considered to be A Lot in this au.)

Things he say about this time period aren’t as consistently cited now: How is supposed to explain that the source of his information is “prophetic dreams”? He is thankful for more knowledge about his long-time special interest but what are they trying to say to him? And eventually, (in a way that I haven’t figured out yet), it clicks. He can’t directly be Decarabian, because otherwise he probably would have known earlier, he can’t be a descendant of him because (oc) knows they never had any offspring, so he comes the conclusion that he is his reincarnation. He does not take this information very well. He has no idea how to react to the fact that the person he’s been studying and hyperfixating over is. technically. himself. that the dictator who restricted information and expression in Old Mondstadt to the point of being killed in a rebellion is. Well. Himself. (technically. in a way. him but not actually him. “past lives” situation.)

I haven’t thought too far ahead after that. That being said, sometime in the future (oc) finds a way to summon Decarabian’s ghost, and for whatever reason the two of them share a body now. There’s less cool lore and more “I can teach my past incarnation to edit videos so I don’t have to”

Why him? Only reason I can think of is because I said so. I haven’t thought of why Decarabian gets reincarnated into someone else in the first place, it’s For The Sake Of The Oc.

TLDR: Ex-professor makes youtube videos about his special interest as a side hobby, accidentally gets famous, gains power (influence = power in terms of Teyvat gods, or at least for this au), becomes a conspiracy theorist, technically starts a cult, realizes he’s actually the reincarnation of the god he started a cult over, and has a mental breakdown over it. (I also would like to note that he’s ~27, which is. Tidbit of information)

Favourite childhood book: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Still highly recommend it to anyone who wants to read. As a kid I never really read a lot of the popular books kids my age were reading but somehow my parents managed to pirate the whole Unfortunate Events series on the family IPad = happy times reading all 13 books.

Currently reading: I was in the middle of rereading the Lockwood and Co. series (just rereading from book 3 onwards). If anyone hasn't read it PLEASE go and read it I love them so much. I will probably reread it again just because. It has ghosts, slowburn romance, London, and fun snarky characters. Idk why it hasn't blown up more ngl.

Currently watching: Of course, Deep Space 9 (dinnertime entertainment with my family), and then, surprisingly, Boys Over Flowers (the korean version). It's actually so hilariously cringe and confusing at the same time that it's a riot to watch. Though I wish I could have finished Goong/Princess Hours before BOF because I stopped halfway in 2022 and it hasn't gone on Netflix so booooo...
