human resource management pt.1

currently revising for my business exam tomorrow, so here's an explanation of each human resource management topic. (i have found that translating my chaotic notes into tumblr post format is super helpful for revision).

but nene, what is hrm? human resource management (hrm) refers to the process of governing a business's workforce.

there are many hrm topics explored in ibdp, and i'm going to explain some of these topics with their definitions, and features.

demographic change refers to the shifts in the composition of a population over time. this could be age-structure shifts or shifts in a population's educational attainment. advantages of age-structure shifts include having a more experienced workforce, and the ability to provide work mentorship opportunities. negatives of this include workforce aging, skill gaps, and increased healthcare costs.

a skill gap means that employee performance and productivity may be hindered, which can impact the overall organizational efficiency. companies with skill gaps may struggle to keep up with competitors who have a more skilled workforce. this means demographic change can negatively impact business growth.

additionally, a business may have to deal with increased healthcare costs. a company may choose to invest in employee wellness programs (preventative care) or create negotiations with healthcare providers to combat this, and save wasted finance.

another hrm topic is employee welfare, which refers to the well-being, health, safety, and overall quality of life of employees within an organization. this is relevant since employee productivity is directly linked to employee welfare. features of this topic include good working conditions, benefits, health and safety measures, work-life balance initiatives, and paid leave.

advantages of an employee welfare focus include greater employee satisfaction, greater productivity, increased employee retention, and a better reputation for the business. investing in employee welfare seems like a no-brainer, however, these schemes require capital - which can be a burden for small businesses.

furthermore, when employees leave the company- the current scheme is redundant. the business is also faced with the challenge of creating a better scheme than its competitors.

one solution may be to invest in flexi-time (another hrm topic). flexi-time, short for flexible time, is a work arrangement where employees choose the starting and finishing times of their workday. the features of this topic include compressed hour times, working from home, and job-sharing.

flexi-time promotes better work-life balance in employees and allows for reduced commuting costs. the employee keeps their full pay and benefits and it is easy to manage transitions into retirement. can you see how this links to employee welfare?

disadvantages of flexi-time do exist, though. flexi-time may result in lower productivity, if the employee's work-life boundaries are blurred or they feel isolated and disconnected. this means that additional supervision of employees may be required, to prevent distractions. this strategy can also cause understaffing.

Greetings and salutations good friend; I bring offerings of Adamgail-siblings thoughts!

So I was thinking about Adam going 'fuck this' and bringing Abby back home with him. Does he still live in the same shitty place, or has a boost in the popularity of his photos following his post-trap fame given him enough money to get a better place? Do they bring any of the Hobbs House furniture with them? Orrrrrrrrrr does he live with Lawrence, coming home after being missing for a week with no warning like "Honey I'm home, and guess what I brought back: your future sister-in-law!"

Whatever the case, we see a drastic change in the type of clothes Abby wears after episode one. Going from floaty more casual clothing, to a more compressed(i can't think of a better word) look. So what if after moving in with Adam, she starts to wear a more grungy look; quite a few people dress aggressively to warn away people, so maybe Abby could go for that to get randos to stay back to keep herself safe.

Her and Adam could maybe have a siblings bonding moment of Adam giving her a (probably not great) haircut and dye-job in the bathroom to make her look less like the pictures in the paper!

I like to think of the idea of a while down the line Abby meeting Danny from Saw 2 at a 'Teens who nearly got serial-killed support group' or maybe Adam met Danny at a survivors group and Danny stuck to him because 'wow this guy knows Scott Tibbs lead singer of Wrath of the Gods (the band on his t-shirt)' or at some point Adam was like 'hey I have a sister your age I think you two could be good friends'. or something.

Anyway, the end result would be the two meeting and becoming friends, perhaps bonding over their trauma a little bit. And then mayyyybe joining forces to create an angsty teen band where they sing songs about the fucked up things that happened to them!

Hello! Very happy to see you in my inbox again friend! I'm a little sick right now, but happy to ramble about the siblings :D

I LOVE the idea of Abigail, Adam and Lawrence living together. I really think Lawrence would be fond of Abigail. Although Adam wouldn't say exactly why Abigail had come to live with them, he'd know the situation back home is dire. I can imagine him getting the house all ready for their return , asking Adam beforehand what Abigail's interests are. So when Abigail arrives she's greeted with a small bedroom full of art supplies, and a window facing the park nearby the house, which he delightfully explains to Abigail had all sorts of critters roaming around day and night. I'm sure this would not only warm Abigail's heart, but Adam's too. Knowing that his partner would care so much about someone so close to him would make Adam want to propose that very moment.

I like to think when Diana visits, her and Abigail would get on well. Abigail would finally know what it's like to be an older sibling figure. I can imagine her helping Diana with her homework or making food for themselves when Adam and Lawrence decide to go on a date night, which would consist of homemade pizza and ice-cream for dessert.

(now I've got a really cute image of Adam and Lawrence coming back home to a sleeping Abigail and Diana, snuggled up against the couch while The Little Mermaid credits roll <3)

Funnily enough, I'm planning on writing a part of my fic where Adam cuts Abigail's hair, but dyeing it is also a nice thought! I'm sure Abigail would be quite hesitant to trust her brother with scissors and hair dye, but surprisingly he knows his way around a head of hair. And paired with some new clothes Lawrence had bought her (no matter how hard she insisted she didn't need them), consisting of flowy skirts, loose tops, cardigans and jumpers/sweaters for the winter months, she'd really start feeling like her own person, not who someone wanted her to be.

I also love the idea of Abigail and Daniel (Danny) being friends! Especially since the only person we see Abigail interact with her age is Marrisa and her dad's victims. He'd think she'd like so cool with her platinum blonde hair (thinking of that one picture of Kacey rn) and they'd hit it off!!! In my opinion, if they were to start a band, I think Abigail wouldn't want to be front and centre, so I can imagine her taking up the drums, hidden away from everyone yet still soaking up the atmosphere. And of course for their first gig Adam insists on taking pictures for free (much to the jealousy of Scott) and he'd be so proud of her!

You're only limited by the size of the gif on disk, if a gif doesn't change much or has a limited palette you can have a long gif with a lot of frames

Which is funny because this one account accidentally found a way to reliably crash the Tumblr iOS app this way without knowing it.

I wish i remembered the blog's name, but it was a blog that took doom WADs and turned the automap into an animated gif that drew the map one line at a time from the start. so if it was a really complex map with lots of vertices it would take a really really long time

when tumblr was rolling out gifv (yes, boo that file format) i had to work on supporting it in the image stack. in an animated gif, each frame is a brand new frame (like a flipbook). In a gifv, each frame is the difference from the last frame applied over the previous frame. this is how some video compression codecs work too. it's more space efficient than holding a full frame but it's more computationally expensive to decode and render it. tradeoffs.

when you decode an image to be displayed on your computer/phone, it's ultimately creating a bitmap from the image data. each pixel is represented by an RGB value and an Alpha channel. It unpacks this info from whatever format the image is encoded in. For gifs, that means each frame of a gif is an image that needs to be rendered bit by bit, displayed for x milliseconds, then repeat for the next one.

this is why animated gifs use a lot of memory even if their size on disk is small. the hypothetical upper bound of the size of an animated gif in memory is image Width x Image Height x 24 bits (bit depth of gifs) x frame count. So a 100 frame gif that is 100 pixels wide x 100 pixels tall is 100x100x24x100 or 24000000 bits or 3000 kilobytes. or 3 megabytes.

this is NOT always the case because good gif rendering libraries only create frames in memory as needed rather than loading every single frame, but if you are a gifv you're only showing the changes of each frame on top of every previous frame.

i am NOT an image rendering expert, however i did know what i'm looking at in this case, so back to the doom map gif.

i really wish i had an example to show here. instead look at this full-color image of a doom map:

the blog in question would produce a black and white gif rendering the lines of these maps. like ignore any color (and the grid outside the map) and that's what it would make. line by line, one at a time, from the starting vertex

in a gifv that's one frame per line overlaid over all the previous frames. some of these gifs had tens or hundreds of thousands of frames, and they were much bigger than like 100x100 pixels! and no, large swathes of transparent areas aren't "empty", each transparent pixel is still 24 bits because you need the RGB values (think hex colors) AND the alpha channel value of zero. That information still needs to be displayed even if the information is ultimately "nothing (visually) here"

so now imagine having to overlay hundreds of thousands of frames over each other in sequence and how much memory that requires. well the image library we were using didnt like that and it crashed the Tumblr iOS app.

anyways that led to i think some changes where tumblr iOS ultimately only gets gifs instead of gifv's because asking your phone to do this extra work to render a gifv is asking too much, vs your desktop that does it better

SO. I managed to forget the actual in-game architect body scan data and a TON of info. There are a few things that would have helped me SO MUCH with this if I hadn't completely forgotten about this. Ill stick the entry and my thoughts below.

FIRST THING - The organ layout in the bottom right. Its got the organs bent around the skeleton AND some slight extra bits in the lower abdomen. I might go back and edit my image to reflect this better.

SECOND - I managed to get that the vasculature from the heart was also the biolights on the surface thankfully. None of the other notes that I omitted from the PDA entry above address the other organs, but it looks like the brainstem part does go off to the sides through the back and shoulders rather than just down. It also sparked another thought- The communication function can also apply to his robotic arms. Since they seem to hover near his back/shoulders, maybe those parts are also in charge of sending signals to the arms and receiving feedback.

THIRD - The species DNA that is present in an architect's body. This will be more useful when looking more closely at their outer tissues and locomotion but definitely good information in general

ANYwho, There's that. Im about to resort to freecam again to look at his organs mid-construction, haha.

Something super pointless and self-indulgent I've had on the backburner for a while. I love trying to make the pieces they gave us fit together!

Al-AN and Robin would absolutely bond over learning about each other's biology. I could talk about this forever but I'll get into all of the headcanons I have for these two in another post eventually

The respiratory tract functions less like a set of lungs and more akin to a computer's cooling system, with the ability to absorb material from the environment to use in other parts of the body. It also would likely help the architect's body analyze the environment it is currently exposed to on a molecular level. It is also truly unidirectional, with the intake vents near the "collarbone" and the exhaust vents on both sides of the abdomen

The architect organ cache in-game felt like it was definitely not a complete model of the internal organs, so I wanted to come up with something to fill some more space. I also just really liked the idea of Al-An being capable of something similar to breathing, without having a respiratory system in the traditional sense. Feel free to use any of this in your own headcanons if you would like :)

"Cute?" he almost shouted in mock hurt. "I just fucked you senseless on this very table and I am cute? I'm literally cleaning my cum from you and you call me cute?" he lifted his eyebrows.

"The way you take care of me is cute and I love you for it" you pressed a kiss on his cheek, his mouth hanging open at your words.

"Of course I take care of you" he explained like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Why wouldn't I?"

"Not everyone would, Buck" you smiled at his cute expression. "But it doesn't matter. I'm just happy to have you in my life" you closed the conversation with a kiss on his mouth. He shook his head and went back to give your center one last swipe, dropping the towel on the ground.

"Are you hungry, angel face?" his arms circled around your waist and he lifted you up, making you wrap your legs around his waist.

"Yeah, a little" you hid your face in his neck as he carried you to a chair to sit you down. He put you down and let go of you, making you whine and tighten your hold on him.

"You have to let go of me, angel" he laughed at your antics.

"But I don't want to" you whined, but he was stronger than you and he managed to peel your hands off of him. You pouted at him as he walked away to the kitchen counter where the now cold pancakes were, giving your the perfect view of his round ass.

"You want some cold pancakes?" he laughed holding the plate up.

"Sure, sounds good" your eyes were glued to his behind. He must have heard in your voice that your mind was somewhere else as he turned around to look at you, his ass leaving your line of sight and instead his member entered your view, making you look up in surprise. Eyebrows raised, he looked back at you, a teasing smirk on his lips.

"Are you sure you are talking about the pancakes?" he joked, making a blush appear on your cheeks.

"I might have thought about something else" you bit your lip, looking down. His feet hitting the ground was the only indication that he came closer to you. The plate being placed on the table made you look up as he leaned over you, your faces only inches apart. He smirked and slammed his lips onto yours in a passionate kiss.

"Stand up" he mumbled into your lips, your heart jumping in excitement. Your body immediately followed his words, your mind filling with images of what he would do to you. These images shattered as he sat down in your place, pulling away from your lips. Your eyes widened in shock, making him laugh. Did he just do this so he could steal your seat?

"Come sit on my lap, angel" he patted his thighs. He didn't need to tell you twice as you scrambled to make yourself comfortable on his thick muscles, your legs on either side of him, your arms on his shoulders, an excited smile on your lips. He pulled the two of you closer to the table and to the plate of food sitting in front of you. You placed your head on his shoulder as he cut up the pancakes, bringing a piece to your lips. Opening your mouth he placed it on your tongue. Savoring the taste you sighed and nuzzled your face into his neck. He ate a few pieces himself before offering you another one. You continued this for a while, until there was noting left on the plate.

"You wanna go back to bed?" he put down the silverware and placed his hands on your back, brushing up and down.

"Yeah, I got kinda sleepy" a yawn broke your sentence, making him let out a chuckle.

"Let's go then" he suddenly stood up, his hands under your thighs, lifting you up, earning a squeal out of you.

He carried you out of the kitchen, slightly waddling to make you laugh. Your noises of happiness floated through the open space, mixing with the sunshine that illuminated what you left behind.

“Yes, I’m aware of that.”

Two seekers stood on the habsuite balcony, overlooking a late sunset over Cybertron. The night was slowly falling and another public speech from the planet’s new ruler, Starscream, was just behind the corner. A gathering like many others before, yet there was some strange buzzing going on in the darker back alleys, out of the presumed reach of Cybertron’s higher-ups. But Starscream had ears everywhere and Stormchaser was very aware of that. They’d known him for a very long time.

“So, you really want to go through with this.”

“Are you worried about me or about your public image?” Starscream chuckled.

Stormchaser scoffed. “Public image, obviously. I better go settle my tab to Maccadam’s now because I doubt Blurr will be happy to see me afterwards.”

Spotlights at the hall were almost as bright as the future Starscream was describing in his speech to the attending citizens. The new paint on his latest frame glistened in the lights as he moved in grand gestures, promising new ways of bettering the life on their war-stricken planet now the battles have ceased and it was time for rebuilding the society.

And when for a moment it looked like the public may even stop and consider his words this time, a deafening noise interrupted everyone’s thought process. Rumble and screams filled the hall and the podium fell under a thick veil of smoke.

“How is he?” Stormchaser almost kicked the door open to the hospital hallway where mere moments ago they wheeled Starscream in, covered in dents and scratches, unconscious and holding on by a thread. Just a few steps behind them ran Windblade, unable to stop them. “Stormchaser, wait!”

Everyone at the hospital had their servos full with light injuries and distressed citizens after the explosion but a young medic, visibly annoyed turned to Stormchaser as they paced fast towards him. “I’m sorry, we’re not authorized to give information about patient’s medical condition to anyone who just walks in here.”

“Well since I’m the one in charge of his consent in case of an emergency, you definitely should be authorized to tell me.”

That rendered the medic silent. “I’m sorry?”

Stormchaser took out a datapad and handed it over to the medic. “You should check your patient’s files when tending to them.” They weren’t even trying to hide their stress and anger now.

“I’m his Conjunx Endura.”

When Starscream came to, the amount of ache his entire being was in was indescribable. The throbbing pain that felt like it was coming from his very core made even opening his optics a painful chore. But still, even in the haze of dizziness, he could make out the only sensation that wasn’t entirely unpleasant. A servo in another servo and a familiar looking shape by the berth.

“Sentimental, aren’t we?”

The blurry shape jolted up, as if suddenly awoken by the sound of his strangled voice.

“You’re awake!”

“I… don’t even know what happened.”

“Wheeljack said it was an experimental charge. A frequency bomb, designed to take out a spark with an incredible accuracy. Almost like Tarn’s outlier ability, compressed into an explosive.”

A small nervous laugh. “So, you’re saying the DJD themselves came for me.”

“No. But I think it’s not surprising to see where the perpetrator’s inspiration came from. Your spark needed a lot of juice to stabilize.”

“So that’s why you look like slag.” The servo on his servo tightened its grip.

“Shut up,” Stormchaser whispered, putting their helm to Starscream’s, forehelms touching. He smiled weakly.

“Are we alone?” Starscream asked almost inaudibly.

“Yes.”

“Do they think I staged it? That we staged it?”

“Hard to tell so far. The explosion? Only time will tell when news coverage starts coming out. The public opinion is definitely going to be divided. The Conjunx bond? Yes, they do think so.”

“They don’t believe there are people I can genuinely trust with my life. Of course.”

“You didn’t know what was going to hit you. You didn’t know what they had planned. You only knew it’s going to happen but you had no idea how.”

Starscream heard that hint of anger seeping into his Conjunx’s voice. “It was necessary to let it happen in the long run.”

“You had no idea what your odds were against.”

“Neither did I in the last few millions of years.”

“Star…”

“Okay, fair, that’s not true. I knew too well what I was against in the last few millions of years.”

Stormchaser exvented with a low rumble of their engines. The concern was real and Starscream knew it.

“It’s true. Besides. I knew I could rely on you to prevent any further vendetta against me when I’m out cold. I trust you.”

A moment of silence with nothing but a buzz and beeps of the health monitors. There were very few people Starscream ever trusted in his life, the number of those who he could say actually cared for him even lower. People he knew wouldn’t stab him in the back at the first chance they got, just like he did to others countless times before. And if there was a chance to strike, it wouldn’t get any better than him unconscious and vulnerable.

That’s why he had Stormchaser by his side. Trustworthy even in the most difficult situations, stubborn enough to tell him off when his strategies were getting more, as they put it, outlandish. What would he do without them.

“And even if you couldn’t prevent my demise, well…” he brought a heavy servo to Stormchaser’s faceplate. “There are backup plans.”

“Backup plans you know I don’t agree with.”

“I know. Well, no need for them so far, right?”

He brought their lips together for a tired but tender kiss. “I still think you’d be a good ruler of Cybertron.”

Stormchaser grinned. “I think I’d leave that position to Windblade.”

“I should watch my back for both of you then. I look away for a moment and suddenly, you form an alliance against me,” he laughed weakly.

“Well, at this point who knows, my friendship with her may as well be over. She looked very distraught when I announced our bond to the medics.”

“Oh, I’m sorry my charming personality and shiny reputation is ruining yours in turn,” he said dramatically. Stormchaser sighed but with a smile. They knew he’s going to be fine.

“Just go back to recharge, you need it,” Stormchaser gently stroke his cheek before placing a kiss on his forehelm.

“M-hm,” he hummed contently before closing his optics. Even a heavy head can try to have a peaceful night it seems. “Storm?”

“Yeah?”

His voice got weaker and his optics remained closed as recharge was slowly taking over him but Stormchaser knew exactly what was said.

“Thank you. I love you.”

“I love you too, Star.”

Hiiiii! I just binged all your writing on AO3 and I love all your work, especially the one with poor Hange hallucinating. I'm not sure if requests are open right now but if they are, I'd love to make one! I'm sorry for being hyper-specific but I just had my wisdom teeth removed, they had to hammer and drill to get one of them out that grew wrong and, I'll spare you the details but it took over an hour for the one and I'm sore and swollen to say the least and not looking forward to having to eventually eat something, and I wonder how Hange would take care of a reader that just had their wisdom teeth removed.

Tooth Ache

Summary: When you get your wisdom teeth removed, Hanji tries her best to take care of you. Modern AU!

“Come on, baby.” Hanji says as her torso reaches over you, struggling to fasten the seatbelt. You shift your body to the left gently, trying your best to help her but the effects of the laughing gas having yet to leave your body.

All you can do is giggle, watching the messy brown hair dangling in front of you. Without realizing what’s happening, a heavy weight is lifted from your body and your lungs can expand to their full capacity once again.

You look around confused, trying to understand what just happened, only to shift your eyes to the left, watching as Hanji starts the car. The sound of the engine roaring makes your heart beat slightly faster, a hint of fear rushing through your veins.

Before any words form, a warm, gentle hand brushes against your exposed thigh softly and the feeling is enough to soothe you. 

Body resting against the car seat, you take your fingers towards your mouth, touching the area around it as you try to make sure everything is still there. The piece of gauze that sat in your mouth now lies in between your legs, a few blood splatters following closely behind.

“Hanji, did you give me cranberry juice?” You ask, not realizing what that hot liquid was. She holds in a laugh, eyes shifting from the road to you for a second as she reaches for a small pill bottle sitting in the cup holder.

“Not yet.” She replies, handing you a decently sized pill and a small, cold box of juice. “But here, why don’t you drink this?”

You grunt in annoyance but still obliged to her request, earning a bright smile in return. 

The car falls silent, only the sounds produced by the vehicle fill the void. Your eyes wander outside, green leaves dance atop of the trees while an old lady’s blonde hair flows around in the wind, reminding you of last night’s dinner.

“Can I have some noodles when we get home?” You ask with stars in your eyes, knowing that Hanji has never once denied you anything at all.

“No, love. I’m sorry.” She replies, eyes focused on the road as you enter your neighborhood. In that moment, her words felt like a knife going into your skin, destroying your heart as a consequence. 

“But…” Tears form in your eyes and your bottom lip quiver.

“It’s for your own good.” She says, right hand squeezing your thigh before you push it away and all she does in response is sigh. 

Grabbing your phone from the glove compartment, you speed dial your most recent caller. A few seconds pass before Eren answers the phone and the image that welcomes him is the desolated, groggy mess behind the screen. Tears flow down your face as you try to speak through the gauze pads in your mouth.

“Hanji won’t let me eat noodles.” You say, earning a quiet giggle out of the brunette driving the car. “All I want is to eat my noodles.”

“It’s for your own good, Y/N!” He replies, a smile on his face as he tries not to laugh. From his end, you can hear two other voices but, in your current state, you don’t realize they are coming from Mikasa and Armin.

“That's what I said.” Hanji replies, reaching for your phone. “Now hang up Y/N.”

“NO!” You scream, pressing your body against the door and moving the device barely out of her reach. “I want to show Eren my lipstick.”

“Lipstick?” The camera shifts angles and now Armin’s face fills the screen. “Uhmm… Y/N?” 

You pull your head back, fingertips gently brushing against your chapped lips until the warm liquid touches them. In response, you let out a giggle. “Oh no. I think it’s blood.”

Hanji’s laugh echoes through the car as she pulls into the driveway. Once the vehicle comes to a full stop, she places her left arm against the window, fingers pushing her glasses up as tears of laughter stream down her face. 

You shoot her a confused look, trying to understand why she’s laughing. In response, she reaches for your phone once again, finally being able to catch the device from your hands and immediately hanging up the call.

“Come on, baby.” She says, removing her seatbelt and unbuckling yours. 

You reach for the handle to open the door many times but your hand simply slips right past it. After what seemed like an entirety, you’re able to hook your hand on it and open it, little do you know Hanji is actually the one to let you out.

Your vision is fuzzy as you try to step out of the car, everything spins around and you look at the sky. A pair of sturdy hands begins to guide you towards the entrance to the house and you smile gratefully.

Hanji seats you on the couch before handing you a cold compress. You stare at it for a few seconds, wondering what it is that she expects you to do with it. 

She laughs and sits beside you, your knee touching hers. “Like this.”

The cold compress against your cheek feels godly and it relieves some of the pain you are in. You instinctively let out a moan.

“I’m gonna go get your meds and be right back, ok?” She says while getting up.

“Otay.” You reply, humming to a random song you heard on the radio early that day. Unknowing to you, Hanji’s eyes glow as they watch you from behind the couch, her heart beating slightly faster as her cheeks blush.

A few minutes go by and when she returns, you are still moving your head and feet to the melody you sing. 

She hands you a cup of cold water and you happily take the pills from her hand. 

Your eyelids become heavy and you rest your head on her shoulder, feeling as her hand goes through your hair gently. You smile through the bloody gauze pads and she giggles.

“Hanji…” You whisper, calling her close to you with your finger and she leans towards you, “I want noodles.”

“Not this again!”

Headcanons 

Hanji is not a good driver so it takes her a couple of days to convince you to let her drive you to the appointment instead of asking Armin or Mikasa to do it.

She nearly sleeps for too long the day of your procedure because she spent the night before worried sick, even if you’re just getting your wisdom teeth out.

Once it’s done, she has to control herself and not give in to your every request like she usually does. No solid food, no milkshakes, no moving more than you have to.

Hanji sets alarms for every 8 hours so you won’t miss a single dose of your pain medicine and, if the pain is too bad, she gives you an extra pill. Not only that, she constantly reminds you of when to change the gauze pads.

You always have fresh ice to apply to your cheeks and Hanji kisses them every chance she gets.

She can’t cook for shit, she tries but when the house ends up smelling like burned soup, she immediately calls Levi, who shows up with at least 3 days worth of food. For you and for Hanji.

When the anesthesia wears off, she pulls up her phone and shows you the embarrassing videos she took while you were high. Of you singing terribly to whatever is playing on the radio, your conspiracy theories on how your dentist was an alien or simply videos of you begging her to give you solid food.

She brushes your teeth for you when you can’t, always making sure to go around the extraction sites and scrubbing your tongue.

The day after the surgery, she rinses your mouth out with warm water and salt, even if you can do it yourself she keeps saying she’ll do it better than you, so you simply let her.

Hanji always makes sure your head is propped up while you’re lying down, even when you beg her to let you put your head down, she won’t let you. Instead, she sits behind you and props your head on her chest. You can hear her heartbeat so you can’t complain.

Once you are healed, she buys you an insane amount of junk food and you suggest going on a picnic with Levi and Erwin to eat it all. She agrees and immediately picks up the phone as you run upstairs to take some medicine so you won’t throw it all up.

— Appearance —

Yumiko is a middle-aged woman with an imposingly broad and burly figure. Her face, while still retaining some youthful beauty to it, is partially disfigured from an accident with her zanpakutō early in her career. Many scars adorn her muscular form from head to toe, gained throughout her time as a battle-hardened soul reaper of the 11th Division. Her hair is auburn red with hints of greying in the present, usually kept long down her back and tied in a ponytail, and her eye colour is hazel.

She is often seen wearing an amigasa and a frayed, dull green kimono to better blend into the foliage, albeit the fabric is bloodstained. In her younger years, she wore a shihakushō, but customized her look into that of a sukeban-style delinquent: she wore her kosode open over her shoulders, tied to her upper body with a red ribbon; she tore off her shitagi sleeves to bare her arms; her Lieutenant’s badge was worn around her left bicep.

— Personality —

Years ago, Yumiko was a foul-tempered spitfire who assisted in keeping the sorry louts of the 11th in line. Strength meant authority within those walls, and there were really only two within the Division who could challenge her might, but she was never one to lord her position over others. Diligent as can be, she often took initiative for leading combat drills to keep her subordinates’ skills sharp. As a member of the 11th, she was a fiercely determined fighter who also relished in the thrills of combat, often using brute force to get the job done, and let her hair down whenever parties were held and drinks flowed. Though she and 3rd Seat Kuruyashiki often butted heads over trivial matters to the point of trading blows, she genuinely respected his strength and character deep down.

While she grew calmer and humbled when she effectively retired, she still holds no patience for any who seeks to do harm unto others weaker than themselves. Yumiko always had a weakness for children, despite the fact that her appearance tend to terrify many, to her dismay. To make up for this, she starkly changes her demeanour into a far more doting personality, sometimes accompanied by a familiar dopey grin that Kōtarō would inherit. She was fiercely protective of him growing up, and, true to her 11th Division training, killed those who dared to threaten her boy’s life without batting an eye or losing sleep.

— History —

In her heyday, up to 410 years before the present, Ryōhei Yumiko lived as a Gotei 13 shinigami, serving as the Lieutenant of the 11th Division. She fit right into the mold of a squad full of melee combatants and was a master with a blade, living and breathing by the three B’s: brawls, bloodshed, and booze. The many scars she accrued over the course of her lifetime each stood as a testament for her love of fighting, as these only grew in number the higher she rose up the ranks.

Unfortunately, her career was cut short come a terrible incident with her Captain. In a bid to further his own swordsmanship as the 6th Kenpachi, Captain Baishin attempted to merge with his own zanpakutō. This fusion, though successful, turned out to be one-way and took a debilitating toll on his mind, causing Kenpachi Baishin to go on a killing rampage that claimed the lives of over 60 seated officers across the Seireitei, including Lieutenants (OVA: The Sealed Sword Frenzy).

Yumiko nearly lost her life in the assault. While she survived, her saketsu and hakusui were pierced during the battle while she burned through her reiryoku. She awoke to several changes in the Gotei 13, chief among them being: her powers have effectively disappeared forever; Kuruyashiki, her 3rd Seat in the 11th, rose to the occasion and donned the Captain’s haori as the 7th Kenpachi during the crisis; and Baishin fled to the world of the living before being sealed away by Kuruyashiki and five other Captains, with two of them not returning home.

Not wanting to sit around for a pity party as she can no longer work within the Seireitei, Yumiko simply left and returned home in North Rukongai. Though her soul reaper powers are gone and she can no longer hear the voice of her zanpakutō, she still had both her fearsome physical strength and her incredible skill with a sword, just as how she always lived and liked it. She never raised her blade against innocent civilians, but many thugs in their attempts to cross her over the years lost their lives.

Around 270 years before the present, Yumiko found a toddler in the thickets of Kusajishi, just passed on from the world of the living. Disgusted that her former comrades would leave him to die within one of the worst districts for a child to be in, she sought to foster him and take him up to some family in a better-off district closer towards the Seireitei. However, she quickly found herself endeared to him when she realized he wasn’t scared of her at all, clinging to her with not one scream of fear or protest at the sight of her. She then decided to take him in as her son and gave him a name of his own: Ryōhei Kōtarō (亮平 康太郎).

Yumiko doted on and sheltered the boy as best she could over the years. Putting her years of fighting experience to use, she strove to teach her son the way of the sword. This was not only so that he may stand an actual chance by himself in the sticks of the Soul Society, but because she knew from his persisting hunger that one day soon, Kōtarō too might follow in her footsteps as a shinigami.

After he finally left for the Academy, she took to wandering the Soul Society proper, but would still come back to Kusajishi on the occasion he should ever visit.

— Powers & Abilities —

Expert Swordsman: As a Lieutenant of the 11th Division, Yumiko's talent in Zanjutsu was almost unrivalled back in her prime. Though her skills dulled with time and little worthy foes to fight out in the boonies, she still managed to garner a menacing reputation that kept her feared by many in North Rukongai. She passed on much of her knowledge in the combat art down to her son, who later became a worthy swordsman in his own right.

Expert Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Yumiko supplemented her swordsmanship with grappling, throws, and boxing, where her larger size and superior strength come into play. In the past, she often resorted to fighting with her bare fists while her active Shikai was locked into its sheath.

Enhanced Strength, Endurance, & Durability: Kōtarō looks up to Yumiko and calls her the strongest woman he knows; that’s not just him being cute, as he means that quite literally. She built up much of her strength over her long tenure as a shinigami in the most combat-intensive Division of them all, capable of lifting and cleaving boulders that are heavier and larger than herself with relative ease. Her body proved resilient enough to not only survive attacks from a crazed Baishin-zanpakutō fusion, while other seated officers in her position—including fellow Lieutenants—perished, but hold him off solo for some time despite her wounds and failing powers.

— Former Powers & Abilities —

Great Spiritual Power: As a former Lieutenant of the Gotei 13, Yumiko once possessed a considerable amount of reiryoku. Her reiatsu was coloured light blue, and her exerting her spiritual pressure made the surrounding area more humid.

Kidō Practitioner: Having attended Shin’ō Academy, Yumiko proved to have little aptitude for magic. The loss of her powers only took away what little capability for Kidō she had.

Shunpō Expert: Yumiko was surprisingly agile for her bulk and quite fast among her peers, able to keep pace with her old Captain who was himself well-versed in Hohō. While she now lacks the power to use such techniques, she still retains some valuable footwork lessons and continues to apply them toward her swordplay.

Zanpakutō: Yūgiri (夕霧, Evening Mist) resembles a normal katana in its sealed state, with a grey hilt and raindrop-shaped tsuba, and its scabbard came with a clip that kept the blade notched. Though Yumiko can no longer call on its power, she took her blade with her nonetheless when she absconded from the Seireitei, and concealed its distinct appearance by binding its hilt and tsuba in cloth. Yūgiri hangs by her hip. Its release command was “Billow!” (畝れ! Unere!).

Shikai: When transformed, Yūgiri’s blade hollowed out with small holes dotted along its length, gathering moisture from the surrounding area to empower its steel with super-heated steam and scald her enemies. It had been a months since you gave birth to your beautiful twins. Both Henry and you were surprised when, during the first ultrasound, the doctor announced that you were expecting two babies. You were shocked to say the least but happiness took over quite quickly. Henry’s eyes immediately lit up when he saw your two unborn babies on the screen. Looking from the monitor to Henry, you felt warmth flood your chest. You were finally going to have a family with the man you loved and cherished and you couldn’t ask for more.

As your pregnancy went on, your body changed drastically. You knew that it would change but you didn’t know what to expect since you were having twins. You wondered if the changes your body was going through would be irreversible but decided not to stress yourself out about it.

When you gave birth to your two little angels, you had finally felt like you had a purpose on this planet. Your whole life had a different meaning now and you were more than grateful to share this new adventure with Henry. 

A few weeks after their birth, you decided to take care of yourself again, specifically your body. You hated the way it looked and decided to start dieting, but the result weren’t conclusive. You went to the gym, went for runs but it was all in vain. Your body stayed the same. Thinking your body would never be as it was pre-pregnancy was painful to admit but your body long molded itself into what it was now and it would probably stay that way.

The little monsters, as you loved to call them, were in their bed and finally sleeping. Hopefully through the whole night. Henry and you were watching a movie. It was rare for the two of you to have a moment of alone time and quiet to share so you enjoyed those to their full extent as much as you could. But you just couldn’t ease yourself into a long desired movie night with your husband. Your mind was wandering, constantly going back to thinking about your physical appearance.You pretended to need to check something so you rose up from the couch and made your way upstairs to your bedroom when Henry snapped you out of your thoughts. 

“What are you doing, love?” His blue ocean eyes were looking at you. 

“I need to see something in the closet. Don’t worry, I’ll be back within a second.” You gave him a reassuring smile. 

Once you were in the bedroom, you took a deep breath before opening the sliding doors of the closest. You placed three different items on the bed. A pair of shorts, a night dress and a shirt. You had chosen those three specific clothes as they used to fit you perfectly before your pregnancy and they also were your favorites.

Standing in front of the mirror had become a form of torture for you, but you needed to face the truth. Desperately wanted to see for yourself. You slid your legs into the short and slowly lifted the hem up to your waist, afraid of the result. It hardly passed your butt and when it did you felt compressed, unable to button it. You felt an ache in your stomach, as you were slowly realising what was happening. You took them off and went for the shirt. You put it on pretty easily but it felt tight under your armpits and a bit of your stomach was popping out. The reflection you were seeing in the mirror disgusted you and you quickly took the shirt of as well. It was time for the dress. It was the dress you wore on your first date with Henry, so it had a great sentimental value to you. In addition, it was your favorite dress. “Please, fit me,” you whispered to yourself, voice shaking before putting your feet through the middle of it and lifting it up to your chest. When it wouldn’t go past your hips, you couldn’t contain it anymore and burst into tears. You sat on the edge of the bed, your hands covering your now wet and tear streamed face. The reality was hard to face. You didn’t like the way you looked, so you assumed Henry didn’t enjoy looking at you the same anymore. You couldn’t think straight, thousand of thoughts were running through your mind. 

Henry was starting to get nervous once he noticed you being absent for more than 20 minutes, so he went to join you upstairs in the bedroom. When he saw you, sitting on the bed, only wearing underwear and sobbing, he felt his chest tightening. 

“Babe what’s wrong?” He rushed to kneel in front of you. He slowly took your hands away from your face and it broke his heart seeing you in emotional pain. You did your best to formulate a coherent and comprehensive sentence but couldn’t because of the continuous sobbing. 

“It’s okay, love. Just take a deep breath. Let it out. Everything will be fine, I promise.” His eyes were full of worry but were never leaving yours. After a few minutes, you calmed down a little. 

“My body,” you started before taking a deep breath “It has changed a lot and I thought I could go back to the shape I used to be but I tried everything and I can’t. Nothing works, Henry. I hate the way I look, I don’t like what I see in the mirror. I’m pretty sure you don’t as well and I’m so-” 

“Don’t ever say that again.” Henry interrupted you, his voice hard but no anger could be seen in his eyes, only sadness. He was saddened to see how mean you were to yourself. 

“I love you so much, you have no idea. Your body is just a bonus to the reasons why I love you and to be honest I’m loving the way your body is at the moment.” Your eyes weren’t leaving his, and when they would, he would lift your chin up to lock his eyes with yours again. 

“Your body carried not one but two babies for nine months! Do you realize how powerful and amazing that is? You’re the strongest woman I know. Your body changed because you did something incredible. I’m not leaving your side, I’ll be with you, every step of the way, supporting you forever. I’ll help you love yourself again because there’s no need for you not to. That‘s my duty as your fiancé and the father of your children”. By the end of his sentence, you hugged him tightly, nosing his neck and inhaling his calming scent that smelled like rich mahogany. His words had a powerful impact on you, and to see that his love for you hasn’t changed a bit made you happy and you wondered again what you ever did to deserve a man by your side and in your life, like Henry. Having your fiancé speak so positively and affirming to you, trying to show you what you look like through his eyes, made you fall in love with him all over again. 

“Thank you, Henry, for everything. I couldn’t have asked for a better fiancé, for a better best friend and father of my kids.” He kissed you passionately, a little demonstration of his love for you.

“You deserve to be happy and I couldn’t bare to live knowing you’re not comfortable in your own skin.” His large hands were now holding your face and sweetly wiped the remaining tears off your red cheeks. 

“Let’s go back downstairs, you need to clear your head out and a comedy is what you need right now,” he said, carrying your downstairs in his muscular arms, which earned Henry a bubbly giggle from you.

When MVA/MLA Arc gets animated, what will you be looking forward to the most? What (canon-compliant) additions and/or changed do you want or think Bones should make, if any?

There’s--a lot.  Does that surprise anyone?  There’s a lot.

o  I have been foaming at the mouth for voice actor announcements for almost a year now, particularly for Trumpet, Geten and RD.           Trumpet’s superpower is literally his voice!  I mean, nothing about that statement requires that voice be particularly entrancing, but it certainly seems like it should be, right??             Geten is a boku-type in the manga, but that was literally the only hint foreshadowing his pretty boy face through 21 solid chapters of Pure Feral Gremlin.  Everyone was shocked by Geten’s face reveal!  How do you maintain that surprise value with an actual voice actor in the mix?  Do you not even try?  Do you play up the disparity--in which direction?  I can’t wait to see what they do.           And Re-Destro!  Re-Destro requires so much range!  From his peppy, silly businessman persona, to the urbane commander, from the overeager yes-man to the raving zealot--who on earth do you get to believably cover all that ground?  I can’t even begin to guess, but I am living in anticipation of that article going up on ANN or the official Twitter sources.

o  I’m also much looking forward to getting official coloring on Trumpet and Geten.  Skeptic seems pretty straightforward--black, black, more black--and RD and Curious, we have color art for, but I wonder if Trumpet will also be all black clothes, to go with that dignified politician image of his, or if he’ll get some color to pep him up a little.  What color are those tinted shades of his?  His eyes?  The wicked-cool Sevens Loud?           I assume Geten is all wintery shades, but it’ll be great to confirm which ones.  I mean, we all assume he’s white-haired to better annoy Dabi with family parallels, but what if he turns out to be platinum blond?  And are his eyes blue?  Gray?  White?  What color is that awful parka?           Also, Re-Destro’s stress powers.  Having been writing them as black since at least August--Rorschach test blots are generally black, after all, and they’re the clear inspiration--I would much like it if the anime would have my back on this.  They made Destro’s mask a dark cinnamon brown, though, so I’m prepared to be unpleasantly surprised in this matter.

o  Predictable MLA adaptational choices aside, I’m also eager/anxious about how they’ll handle Spinner’s narration.  What I really hope is that they actually straight-up hand him ALL the narration duties--not just the stuff he dictates directly in the manga, but also e.g. the name and quirk explanation material that Present Mic normally gets, or the previews that are always handled by Deku.           The opening and closing sequences are another big structural thing, of course--based on the flashed snippets of Hawks and Endeavor in both our current and the previous OP, I’m expecting we’ll see at least a bit of something referencing the upcoming internship arc (which I expect to close out the season), but I hope the villains just walk away with the closing entirely.  I want my slice of life villainy ED, dangit.

o  Another thing I’m eager/anxious about would be Kotarou, and the Shimura flashback generally.  There’s a brittle edge of to Kotarou that I really love, and I hope he manages to keep it in the anime, despite the anime being generally not so great at moments that I would describe as “delicate.”  For example, I’d like it if he doesn’t get a super deep voice, and if they could manage to keep his pretty face, and capture how deeply bitter and tired he looks in the scene where he’s reading the letter Nana left him.           Also, I hope they keep the little montage bits and, crucially, the changes of clothes the family goes through.  We see Tenko in no less than five, possibly as many as seven, different T-shirts through the course of that flashback.  It seems like a small thing, but it’s one of the factors that makes me skeptical that AFO gave Tenko Decay, when so many days clearly go by between the opening with the man at the door and the tragic end.  It’d be nice not to see too much resurgence on that just because the anime can’t be bothered to come up with more than one outfit for the Shimuras.

I have enough issues with the anime’s usual adaptation choices that I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high on the actual content of the episodes.  The staff is diverting too much of its major talent to the movies (BAH) these days for me to expect the whole season to look all that great, and it’s never been particularly creative or daring outside of its climactic sakuga-heavy fight scenes anyway.  I’ve also long had a bone to pick with its scoring decisions, and am already eyeballing the climax of the RD/Shigaraki fight and imagining the minor-keyed terrifying dirge I fear the anime will play there, at the moment that Re-Destro (and, shortly afterward, Spinner) are supposed to be experiencing something akin to religious awakenings.           There’s also the issue of the violence and gore--judging by how the anime handled the scene where Shigaraki and Compress maim Overhaul, I have some severe reservations about how much blood they’ll be allowed to get away with, particularly in the scene where the League brutally decimates that CRC group and, of course, Shigaraki’s backstory.  I’m looking at MVA to serve as a preview for how all the same issues will be addressed in the War Arc.

That bit of pessimism aside, as to what I’m hoping they’ll add or change?  Well, off the top of my head.....

o  I would love to get a full episode devoted to the time the League spends fighting Machia.  Not that first tussle, but the six grueling weeks in the mountains.  There’s so much you could add there for character building and atmosphere that Hori didn’t so much as montage through.  Where was their food coming from?  How’d they pick out places to pitch camp?  How much access to news from outside did they have, and how frequently?  What were the circumstances in which Gigantomachia “told them himself” about his great sense of smell??  Stuff like that!             I don’t think we’re at all likely to get this--honestly, the series of late has had enough of a problem with trimming bits and pieces that I’m as worried about what they might cut as I am hyped about things they might add--but the one thing that gives me some hope is the training camp arc.  Specifically, the moment 1-A first gets to the Pussycats’ forest, they get jumped by earth golems, a fight that the manga off-panels entirely, but the anime spends a modest amount of time on, giving the kids a little bit of time to show off their moves and such.  I’d love to get something equivalent for the League.

o  On a similar note, I wouldn’t turn it down if they fleshed out some of those running street fights a bit.  One obvious thing comes to mind: there’s a weird jump in the manga between Skeptic and a horde of his golems being all but on top of Twice at the beginning of 233 and then that fight just--doesn’t happen.  There’s no mention of it at all.  I think the suggestion is that either Machia’s appearance or the tower going down interrupted it--Skeptic breaks off from his fight the same way Geten and Trumpet do theirs, shifting focus to protecting Re-Destro--but it’d be nice to see the anime touch on it.

o  It’d be nice to get a bit of expansion on the nature of the bullying Spinner endured.  We’re told he was, but was it limited to verbal?  Did he get beaten up a lot?  Was there an online element?  Deku’s our only other reference point for “bullied kid,” and whatever one might think about the story’s development of Bakugou’s mentality, it’s been made clear in retrospect that there was a lot more too that than just the matter of Deku’s quirklessness.  I’d love to know how Spinner’s bullying looked in comparison (not least because of some of the theories about Spinner and Deku needing to come to some kind of accord to free Shigaraki from AFO).

o  Make the Villa (both here and during the War Arc) look more realistic.  By which I mean, I know Horikoshi is capable of drawing interesting and lived-in interior spaces--he has an entire chapter dedicated to it in the 1-A dorm room contest, after all--but he normally doesn’t bother much with it.  At UA, it’s not too distracting, because we know good and well that that whole building is probably maintained by Cementoss anyway.  Ditto places like Tartarus (intentionally, dehumanizingly barren) or the League’s post-Kamino hideouts (abandoned homes and industrial spaces).  But the Villa?            For heaven’s sake, it’s called a mountain villa.  It has a clear reception desk on the ground floor; it’s obviously some sort of high-end hotel, if not an outright resort or rentable retreat lodge.  Speaking as someone who’s worked in one, places like that don’t look as fuckin’ bare as the rooms we see there always seem to.  For fanfic purposes, I’m happy to go on telling myself that e.g. the pool and the bar and the restaurant(s) and the gym are in the building Cementoss doesn’t tear in half, but it’d be nice if the anime could class the whole place up a little, maybe put some real furniture and decor in the rooms that are in use.  (Yes, I know this is a ridiculous nitpick.)

o  This is less a change and more a correction, but for fuck’s sake, BONES, give us white-haired Shigaraki.  The climax of Deika is a solid time for it, given that it’s obvious in the manga that Shigaraki’s hair gets paler in Deika--you can see it in the way Horikoshi inks it (which is to say, the way he stops inking it)!  I think if we ever get white-haired Shigaraki in the anime, a somewhat better time as far as narrative justification goes would be when Shigaraki gets out of the tube in the War Arc; you could easily justify it as a side-effect of the surgery.  Still, I’d rather see it here.  I want white-haired Shigaraki, gleaming and brilliant through the scattering ash in that crater, a veritable angel of sacred destruction.           Honestly, more than anything, the crater sequence is the one I hope I love.  It’s probably my favorite single moment in the entire manga, as Shigaraki wins over Re-Destro, Spinner and Gigantomachia in the same moment, and finally comes into his own.  If they can at least nail that, I’ll consider myself pretty satisfied.
