#the friend who got me into the office said michael was their fav character and i waited the whole show to see why and i just... never did

Note
I have no knowledge of the office beyond memes, but I would love to hear a rant. Go off about it, you deserve it -Dream
dream, you are so valid, and a real one
bc i have Broken Wrist Syndrome i’ll try to keep this an abridged, bullet-point rant about How The Office Fucked Up Michael’s Possible Character Arc And I’ll Never Forgive Them For It but y’all know me and my love of ranting and hatred of following silly earthly body rules sooooo
tl;dr- michael scott’s character had the set up/foundation to have a, frankly, incredible character arc that could’ve meant something to a lot of the viewers and redeemed his character in a real, honest way but the producers of the office were too chicken shit to follow through with this and as such left michael to forever be a mar on the office name
okay so if you’ve ever seen the office, you know that michael is a discriminatory egotist who tends to be a piece of shit thinking he’s The Shit
there is practically no one in his life that he does not, at some point, insult, ridicule, mock- etc etc etc. this includes all his partners, all his coworkers, and complete strangers
and if someone he knows is in a minority or discriminated group (afab people, gay people, POC, etc) you can guarantee he makes insensitive jokes and jabs at them regarding that minority status
along with this, he has an extremely ‘i am the only person in the universe’ mindset, and he consistently betrays, hurts, sabotages, and ignores people who challenge this mindset
he’s immature, insensitive, discriminatory, and worst of all childish
the only reason i say his being ‘childish’ is the worst is bc of what it allows him to get away with
oftentimes his inability to face and accept the consequences of his actions forces the people around him to bend to his will and sacrifice what should happen for his feelings
it also, in my opinion, causes many office fans to overlook his large amount of flaws and instead focus on his ‘carefree, kind, no-harm-intended’ nature which is a problem bc Y’all This Man Is Not Good
however despite how crappy a character he is, michael’s character was almost expertly crafted for a sorta redemption arc as it were
it’s constantly talked about and referenced in show that michael had a lonely childhood, one i do sympathize with
he talks of his best friend being the lunch lady, numerous childhood stories lacking in friends, that one tv show tape where he say he ‘wants to have 100 kids, because then he’ll have 100 friends who can never leave him’, etc
it’s clear he was an outcast, likely due to his ‘wacky’ sort of personality
this caused him to latch on to the friends he could get- in the case of what the show tells us, this is todd packer, someone who is even worse than michael
this leads to michael developing his toxic sense of humor
now, while having a bad childhood and making bad friends is not a reason to be free of figurative sin of being a discriminatory asshole, it does lay the groundwork to redeem him in a missed-opportunity brilliance
because what they could have done is shown, gradually throughout the series, michael realizing that the office is truly filled with his friends... friends who don’t like his offensive jokes
and it’s fairly clear they are his friends! even as early as the first episodes they make sacrifices and tailor things to him, to make him happy and lift his spirits despite how rude he is to them
but despite the fact that he clearly has friends michael continues, throughout more or less the entire series (that he’s there), to act as if he’s still the hated, friendless kid who’s trying to hold face and convince everyone why they should be his friend
this is one of the worst parts of michael’s fuckery, as he refuses to acknowledge his friends while still being awful to them, ignoring their repeated outcries against his insensitive comments and behavior
instead, michael continues to be awful to his friends (who he does Not deserve), and the writers of the show throw the audience little pieces of scrap meat in the form of a tragic childhood to try and convince us that excuses his behavior
which is a fucking SLAP IN THE FACE to the audience bc y’know what???? y’know what?!?!?!?
michael’s character arc could’ve been great. it could’ve shown audiences filled with white cishet men with that exact sense of humor in a society that practically peer pressures them to be discriminatory assholes that that is not what makes you good, honest, real friends. it could’ve meant smth, smth about equality and fairness and rightness and learning from your past and becoming someone better despite all the mistakes you’ve made
and they threw that all AWAY
right up until he leaves, michael continues his awful behavior, and the only time he even gets somewhat better is when he gets together with holly shortly before leaving the show
that’s IT
the ONLY time he gets even SOMEWHAT better is for AMARTOTVITY REASONS
i cant spell that word and u cant make me
BUT MY POINT STANDS
anyways ik i did a tl;dr at the beginning but to sum up less eloquently,,,,, they could have done smth great with michael’s character and his character arc but they didn’t and they left michael a flat sucky character whose popularity to the fans baffles me to this day

My “Dumbo” art.
I was cleaning out my folders and found art I did of Dumbo 2019 and Villy.  I got into the fandom 3 years ago this month, before the movie even opened!
I was on Twitter in 2019.  I did cartoons of the characters reading for First Book’s Magical Adventure Sweepstakes (promo narrated by Michael Keaton).  First Book promoted these, and I received a nice note from actor Frank Bourke, asking if he could use the Puck cartoon as his avatar.  Of course I said yes, I was honored!  He used it on Twitter and Instagram.
I never did get around to doing a cartoon of Holt, I don’t know why.
Soon after I deleted my Twitter account, so all those posts are gone.
I didn’t have a scanner at the time, so all the photos were taken with a clunky old digital camera.

Keaton and DeVito did this Dumbo promo:
youtube
so I tweeted this cartoon for First Books.
Tumblr media
A Dumbo cast members told me both Keaton and DeVito loved it, but I can’t confirm that (I don’t believe it).
After reading bad reviews of Michael Keaton’s accent as VAV, I tweeted these.  A friend who’s an actor in L.A. urged me to send the art to Keaton’s rep agency.  For the hell of it, I did.  No idea if his rep’s office ever received them, of if he ever saw them.  Considering he must get bags of fan mail, I doubt very much he’s seen them.  Just as well; I drew the art fast, and it’s not my best work.

My first Villy art.
Tumblr media
I drew these for Chapter 5 of my fanfic, Baby, Mine.
Tumblr media
This scene from Chapter 5 kept getting fl@gged by Villy-antis because of the “explicit” parts, until finally my whole original blog went down.
Here’s most of it (explicit parts removed).

My Oscar Opinions! Yay
The Oscars were two nights ago, and I want to write about them before they become obsolete (maybe too late lol). Overall, I’m happy with the results, even though my #1 fav didn’t win anything, despite Greta Gerwig being praised throughout the evening. Here’s my ranking of the the nine Best Picture noms in order of how I like them (excluding Dunkirk, which I didn’t see; sue me).
#8: Darkest Hour
Despite an obviously career defining performance by Gary Oldman, the film itself serves as a mere vehicle for his acting choices. The other characters, besides Stannis Baratheon, seem one dimensional; the best part of it is the ad campaign promoting the movie, saying it’s a much needed portrait of good leadership in today’s day and age. Not the best when the advertising is better than the film. Congrats Sirius Black.
#7: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
The most problematic of the bunch. When I first saw Three Billboards, I didn’t hate it, and I don’t now. But the polarizing flaws of this film are worth discussion. The affably comedic portrayal for much of the movie of Sam Rockwell’s award winning police officer, and his racism, sexism, and homophobia was off-putting. While these actions weren’t redeemed, the character somewhat was, and the resulting tone left much to be desired and some awkward mixed messaging. As a friend of mine said, it should have been a play. I am a fan of McDonagh’s plays, and I have to agree. That being said, this film provided a tour de force performance from Frances McDormand, and her speech was one for the ages.
#6: Phantom Thread
This is the one I saw the most recently, on the eve of the Oscars. I’m not that familiar with the work of Paul Thomas Anderson, or Daniel Day-Lewis for that matter (sue me), but I was pleasantly captivated by this film. It has a rhythm, language, and tone all its own. It’s not trying to be best picture, it’s just trying to tell a story. And those dresses—STUNNING. MVP is a tie between the gorgeous music and the breakout performance of the quirky Vicky Krieps.
#5: The Shape of Water
The Best Picture winner swings in the middle for me. I was expecting to love it, and while it didn’t capture me completely, it is certainly an excellent film. From start to finish, it’s a truly immersive experience. There were some drawn out plotlines, like the Russian spy subplot, and some that were too thinly drawn, like Octavia Spencer’s character. But overall I appreciated the focus on the various underdogs of the 60’s, the aesthetic, and the morality of the whole piece. And as a Pisces, I related to the fish.
#4: The Post
Okay, so I think I’m the only person I know who really liked The Post, besides my parents. Yes, it’s chances at Best Pic were probably a few years back, even though it was ironically made in a year when the press is continually under attack. But the joy I felt watching Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks acting together was worth the price of admission, and the supporting cast was very solid. Meryl alone honestly made the movie for me, when she gave the go ahead to publish the papers. I just had a lot of fun watching, so that’s good “news” in my book!
#3: Call Me By Your Name
I do like CMBYN. Quite a lot, actually. But one thing I need to clarify is that the casting of two straight men in queer roles is difficult for me to swallow. Timothee of course is a breakout star, and he owns this role, but why could it not have been a gay actor? Despite that (and the glaring age gap of Armie Hammer), this film is visually beautiful, reflective, and relatable. Also, Michael Stuhlbarg was truly robbed.
#2: Get Out
This was the film I was rooting for to actually win Best Picture. It’s wholly original, genre-bending, and endlessly culturally significant. It was also a certifiable blockbuster! The kind of movie that should be rewarded. Daniel Kaluuya was perfect, and the image of him “sinking” that became iconic will be remembered for a long while. I still get chills thinking about this movie. It’s what our society needed, and still does.
#1: Lady Bird
My all time favorite movie of last year. I can’t express what this movie means to me. The fresh take on a coming of age story (my favorite genre), the hilarious and relatable characters, and the fierce chemistry between Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf all came together so beautifully. One of those films that really understands its audience, relatable on a level I can’t even explain. It really is a shame it didn’t win any awards. A++
Honorable Mentions:
I, Tonya was a kind of clunky movie with excellent acting, which was rightfully awarded (although I do wish Laurie Metcalf got more recognition for her supporting role in Lady Bird, Allison Janney earned her gold). The Florida Project was a visual and emotional masterpiece, which Willem Dafoe anchored beautifully, and The Big Sick was a very refreshing and inspiring rom-com. A great year for movies! And I have my MoviePass to thank for letting me see as many as I did! Peace!

LOST rewatch (season 1):
[follow the entire rewatch-tag here]
episodes 1 and 2 – Pilot:
Jack’s Angel Hair Pasta speech is making my eyes roll so far back up my head that it hurts
Kate speaks the first “we have to go back (for him)” around minute 39 of ep1
I forgot how incredibly sexy Naveen Andrews is
John Locke doesn’t speak his first line until minute 23 of ep2 when he explains Backgammon to Walt – his iconic Orange Smile scene and the Sitting In The Rain On The Beach scene actually both happen before he gets to speak
episode 3 – Tabula Rasa:
Oh, it’s the first “previously on LOST”
the sheer loathsomeness of that fucking US marshal… ugh
Michael: “I will get your dog back as soon as it stops raining.” – rain: *stops*
Wash Away playing in the final scene
that last shot that made John look like he was gonna be some mysterious villain character when actually he’s just the jungle philosopher who talks to the island
episode 4 – Walkabout:
yaaay, the first boar action
I can’t believe they waited until the airplane food was all eaten up before they thought about finding food on the island
that asshole from the office who’s bullying John makes me so angry
“don’t tell me what I can’t do” makes its first appearance at minute 21 and is quickly followed a mere minute later by the second appearance
totally forgot that John is actually the first one to see Smokey – and that early on in the show?!
Uuuuuuh first time we see ghost!Christian Shephard
Do we really think John killed that boar on his own or did Smokey help him?
episode 5 – White Rabbit:
there’s so many times they say “the others” before there’s even any sign of The Others™ I’m starting to wonder whether it’s intentional
the best thing about Jack-centric episodes is Christian Shephard (I got it hard for daddy Shephard okay!??!?!)
do Australians really sound like that or did they mainly cast American actors for the scenes that take place in Sydney?
aaaaand there they are, the Jears (Jack tears)
episode 6 – House of the Rising Sun:
god I love Sun and Jin, I hate how underrated all of their flashbacks are
bless the bad CGI bees
look! it’s Mother’s first appearance
episode 7 – The Moth:
ugh it’s a Charlie episode -.-‘
headcanon: Jacob made that cave collapse because he wanted to get rid of Charlie
John believing and being proud in Charlie makes this episode worthwhile for me
episode 8 – Confidence Man:
Kate is actually carrying a… bundle??? of bananas over her shoulder. What’s mote #jungle aesthetic?
John you manipulative bastard, I love you!!!! I can’t wait for Not Henry Gale to join you into an endless manipulation play-off
I honestly can’t remember whether or not Sawyer and Sayid will ever work out their issues in the later seasons and actually get a somewhat friendship?! I don’t remember any bro-scenes between them which is a shame tbh.
Boone: “She’s my sister!” – god how did I think it was totally reasonable to turn this into an incetuous romance?!
episode 9 – Solitary:
Yaaaaaaaaaasssss it’s Sayid’s first episode which also means: DANIELLE ROUSSEAU!!!
I am a big Shannon/Sayid shipper but I can really understand the folks who ship Kate with Sayid. It would have been soooo much better than the love triangle of hell.
And I hate that Sayid doesn’t speak Arabic in his flashbacks. I get, Naveen Andrews doesn’t speak it but… they made Daniel Dae Kim speak Korean even tho he couldn’t?!?! It’s a bit of inconsistency that annoys the crap out of me.
I’m moaning a lot considering this is my fav show… there’s just… a couple of things about season 1 that always been bothering me.
OH MY GOD IT’S CREEPY ETHAN!!!
Danielle looks so fucking good and so does Sayid fnfsdkgnjkngjdfh my bi senses are tingling.
episode 10 – Raised By Another:
Claire’s nightmare is super fucking disturbing
Her ex is literally the most annoying fuckboy and I have absolutely forgotten about him for a good reason. What an asshole.
Kate’s been wearing the same green short for at least the past 3 episodes… which… I get because clothing is limited on the island but it reminds me of the Simpsons’ wardrobe
The fact Creepy Ethan™ is there after Claire wakes up the second time saying she’s been attacked should have been the biggest #clue.
Hurley getting the flight manifest from Sawyer by just… talking to him… my aesthetic!
The “Ethan is creepy”-reveal is soooooo well done gjfsngkngdg
episode 11 – All The Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues:
More Terry O’Quinn close ups please!!!
I love that John is “of course Kate is coming along” and just hands her a knife whereas Jack is always like “no, don’t come along, this is #dangerous” – like… by now we should all know there’s no stopping Kate!
John predicting the rain is one of my fav scenes.
Wooooow they discovered the hatch THAT early in the season?!??!
episode 12 – Whatever The Case May Be:
Sawyer really shouldn’t go swimming in sweet water with his wounded arm.
I love Rose :’)
okay this episode was kinda underwhelming but that might be because I remembered what was in the case
episode 13 – Hearts and Minds:
I do not remember this episode title AT ALL so I have no idea what to expect
Aaaaaah I think it’s the Shannon and Boone incest episode which explains why I have forgotten about it – one of the most unnecessary plots in the history of LOST ever
How is Boone still friends with Locke after this whole bondage mess? Nevermind, John could do anything to me and I’d still follow him to the end of the world.
“PEE ON IT!”
episode 14 – Special:
I hate that Michael’s ex took his son away from him. She shouldn’t have put him in that position. I hate her.
What is it with Michael and car accidents?
and now she’s clearing her bad conscience with money. I HATE HER!
And now Charlie’s reading Claire’s diary – I hate him, too!
Aaaand here comes the bad CGI polar bear
Every time John Locke smiles an angel gets its wings.
Claire is already back?!?!?!?
episode 15 – Homecoming:
Wait…. Is this already when they kill Creepy Ethan? If so then I really liked this episode. Probably the only moment I truly liked Charlie.
The Scott/Steve-joke never gets old.
I love that Sawyer organised a gun for Kate. If I absolutely had to ship any combination of the love triangle of hell it’d be Kate and Sawyer… but only because Juliet isn’t in the picture yet.
episode 16 – Outlaws:
Oh it’s the Sawyer versus boar episode, I love that one!
Sayid you sassy fucker, I love you!!!
I love that they made the “I never…” scene so long.
“You’re not alone – don’t pretend to be!” is exactly what I needed to hear right now, thanks Sayid!
episode 17 - …In Translation:
How are Sun and Jin both so incredibly beautiful? Newsflash: I’m bisexual!
Hurley, my lovely empathetic sunshine!
Is it just me or is Michael’s first raft bigger than the second version?
John back at it again with the jungle philosophy.
“WE ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE AN THIS ISLAND AND WE ALL KNOW IT!!!!” you go John, tell them!!!
Aaaah Jin’s father aka the only good father in the entire show!
episode 18 – Numbers:
FINALLY!!!
John building the cradle with Claire for the baby is breaking my heart. Jungle grandpa Locke <3
I’d love for the monster to have been a “pissed off giraffe”
DANIELLE IS SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL
episode 19 – Deus Ex Machina:
Awwww I forgot that John worked in a toy shop – that’s so cute
Damn he looks so much better without hair than he does with it
Anthony fucking Cooper you disgusting weasel of a human being
I just remembered that the “Deus” that’s in the “Machina” is Desmond Hume, my Scottish puppy – can’t wait for him to be there doing his thing
God that moment with the light is sooooo good! That’s when I was #hooked the first time I watched the show.
And I just remembered: that’s John saving Desmond’s life there and Desmond saving John’s life and rgkdabgdlkgndg
episode 20 – Do No Harm:
Jack doesn’t deserve this wonderful wife…. And I really don’t like the whole “fixing things” trope that surrounds his character.
Oh riiiiiight, Claire’s having the baby while Boone dies. I totally forgot about that. I love it!
Sun is soooo strong in this episode, I love her!
Jack: “Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” – I think this is the first time someone other than John said it.
god it’s so fucking tragic with everyone looking at the baby while Shannon gets told the news her brother died. it’s too much for my tiny heart
episode 21 – The Greater Good:
John it ain’t really helping that you still drowned in Boone’s blood, my guy, my buddy, my pal.
Sayid saying “I know when I’m being lied to.” is kinda foreshadowing the whole Henry Gale affaire because he was the only one who wouldn’t take any of Ben’s shit for even a second.
Sayid: “You’ve never fired a gun before!” – Shannon: *fires gun*
episode 22 – Born To Run:
judging by the title of this it’s gonna be a Kate episode
ah yes…. The horrible blond wig. I mean…. How bad must a wig be to see it’s a wig from behind?!??!?!
episodes 23-25 – Exodus:
jhbdfajksfg it’s Ana Lucia, bless her, my lovely angry smol child
it was absolutely not necessary to show Sawyer with his shirt off but I ain’t complaining
anyways… when will I ever have enough time and money to go to Hawaii?
That Walt/Shannon/Vincent-moment breaks my heart big time.
The Black Rock being an old ass ship was one of the biggest plot twists the first time I watched.
The parts of Arzt flesh raining down on our guys was really more realism than needed
IT’S SMOKEY!!!! Yaaaasssss!
Has there ever been a better finale for the first season of a show ever?

I was tagged by @yourpalmoony, thank you for the tag!!
RULES: answer the questions given to you by the person who tagged you, create 11 new questions and tag 11 people
1.) You’re stranded on a remote island, and have to survive for what could be months. Which three fictional characters would you want there? And why?
Okay. First one, Diana Prince, because like it’s Diana Prince and also, she’s lived on an island her entire life??? I’m pretty sure she would know what to do. Steve Rogers. Mainly for just eye candy but he could be pretty resourceful as well. I mean he’s strong and all...so is Diana. So double the strength. And last but not least, Michael Scott. I need humor if I’m gonna be stuck on an island. Plus, it could turn into our own little parody of The Office. Me, Diana Prince, Steve Rogers and Michael Scott. I can picture it now...
2.) What is your go-to happy show?
Whose line is it anyway. Always my go to show
3.) What three songs are you obsessed with at the moment?
After School by Slicarus, Tiger Teeth by Walk The Moon, The Promise by When In Rome
4.) Pick one of your ocs, now pick a band or artist who’s music and vibes really resonate with that oc
Anything from KISS really works for Melissa
5.) What is your guilty pleasure fandom?
I...I don’t actually have a guilty pleasure fandom.
6.) Say something nice about someone else's writing (I know its not a question but lets spread some love, huh?)
OMG, okay. So I love reading anything by @susiesamurai because she always does an amazing job with details and conveying emotions. Plus, the dialogue between her oc and other characters are always like GOLD. Especially the humor. Everything about her writing just makes me want to cry from how amazing and perfect it is! Plus, I love Poppy with all of my heart, I’ll protect her until the day I die
7.) Which of your edits are you most proud of? Put it in here!
This was kinda hard to pick but it would have to be this one
8.) Which of your ocs deserve a damn vacation? Name four of them, and pick where they would go and why?
Jackie - Caribbean because it has always been on her bucket list , Melissa - California she’s been there before and wants to go back, Natalie - Cape Cod because it’s literally her favorite place on earth, Riley - literally anywhere, she’s not a picky person.
9.) Make an OC now! Face Claim: Michael Cera
Tumblr media
name: Liam Graham | fandom: ahs: coven | didn’t sign up for this shit
It’ll be fun, they said. You need to get out your comfort zone. Yeah right, okay. Liam has always been the awkward, tall fellow that got picked on in school. Once hitting college, he dabbles in various groups of people, befriending some that surprised him. After constant badgering, he follows his friend’s advice and goes to a house party off campus. Now, look where it got him. He witnesses a bus flipping over on its own, his friend returns from the dead, and he gets caught up in the world of witchcraft. Oh, and an immortal, serial killer socialite is somehow mixed up in all of this? What in the world is going on??
10.) Think of your main oc, now make them a POC, who would play them? If you have a main poc then go with secondary! If this doesn’t pertain to you, then write a few sentences on why you love me.
I have quite a few main ocs. So, I’ll do Natalie. Originally played by Lily Collins. Her POC faceclaim would be: Jamie Chung
Tumblr media
My Questions:
1) Choose an oc from another fandom you would like to crossover with? (it can be yours or someone else’s)
2) Favorite sentence or passage from a fic you’ve read?
3) Choose one of your ocs, what would be their theme song?
4) If you could have one of your ocs become canon within the established fandom, which oc would that be?
5) Which oc would you be willing to become for a day?
6) Guilty pleasure movies? TV shows?
7) What is the one thing that helps to get you into the writing mood?
8) The one thing you absolutely can’t live without.
9) If you could meet any actor, who would it be and why?
10) Top 5 fav fics?
11) Current TV show/Movie obsession?
I tag: @missjanuarylily, @rhaenystargaryen411, @itsaprophetthing, @missbb8, @darknightfrombeyond, @susiesamurai, @ginnygardener okay and literally anyone else. I’m pretty sure everyone’s been tagged so if you’ve already done this, feel free to pass!

16 nice things we've seen on the internet in 2018 so far
Tumblr media
We're halfway through 2018 and it's safe to say the internet's already had some serious ups and downs.
If you reflect on the year thus far, your mind might wander to its low points, like when YouTuber Logan Paul filmed a dead body in Aokighara, known informally as a suicide forest in Japan, and uploaded the video online. Or maybe your mind jumps to the time Roseanne Barr made an extremely racist remark on Twitter.
Heck, perhaps you've blocked those cringe-worthy moments out because you’re too busy watching President Donald Trump spend his days angrily tweeting into the abyss. But despite all the bad the internet has offered us in 2018, it's had its fair share of good moments, too.

From hilarious children and adorable animal videos, to impressive memes and chill celebrity interactions, the internet has given us a lot to smile about this year.
Here are 16 things to remind you that the internet isn't always an absolutely terrible place to spend time.
1. Lisa Frank's social media game
Looking back at social media in 2018, one unlikely hero managed to consistently deliver fresh, peppy, colorful content. That hero is Lisa Frank.
The beloved brand that ruled your childhood is over here absolutely slaying the social game — sharing relatable AF memes, cheerful animal graphics, and rainbows galore on Facebook and Instagram on a near-daily basis. If you're looking for a heavy dose of positivity, some Monday inspiration, or an unexpected laugh, Lisa Frank’s got you covered.
How’s your Monday going? #mondaymood #lisafrank #sweettooth ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

2. Will Smith's Instagram account
Though the world welcomed Will Smith to Instagram in December 2017, the actor and super-cool dad really hit his social media stride in the new year.
Smith gives us everything we could ever want in a celebrity Instagram account — he serves up laughs, gives us looks into his personal life, posts those Fresh Prince of Bel-Air throwbacks we all crave, and shares photos with his family members and famous friends. We are barely worthy of your content, Will, but we're glad you're here.
I’ma keep it 💯 wit’ y’all... I Hurt Myself doin’ that Champeta Move.

3. Kids finding out they were going to see Black Panther
Since its release, Black Panther has shattered box office records and inspired tons of memes, but we're not sure anything about the franchise will ever be able to top this video of Atlanta middle school students learning they'd be going to see the film.
In one of the nicest feel-good clips out there, Wade King — teacher and director of curriculum and instruction at Ron Clark Academy — captured video of students reacting to the news.
The students just found out we are all going to see BLACK PANTHER! We will have a day of cultural classes, African dancers, historical lessons and then we will all go see the film! Turn up!!!! @ronclarkacademy @chadwickboseman #tlhanna pic.twitter.com/oUhWse5ghr
— Wade King (@WadeKing7) February 2, 2018
Is this not one the purest things you've ever seen? Want more? No problem. The school's founder Ron Clark tweeted another video.
4. The #M'BakuChallenge
Black Panther had such an impact in online communities that it wouldn't be right to simply highlight one glorious Wakanda-related internet moment. Behold: The M'Baku Challenge — a delightful trend that called on people to recreate some of the most iconic lines from Jabari tribe leader M'Baku (played by Winston Duke).
Many Black Panther fans made admirable efforts, but 7-year-old Jordan's rendition was so superb that even Michael B. Jordan showed him some love.

5. Inspiring Twitter thread of women lifting each other up
It's an absolutely beautiful sight when an overwhelming amount of positivity is born from a single act of negativity. That's what happened in May when Twitter user @lewisbcfc74 claimed to be "sick of" seeing girls complimenting each other on Instagram.
Sick of going through insta and seeing girls commenting on other girls pictures 'look at u!!😭' and 'have you seen yourself😍' grow up man you don't even know each other
— Lewis (@lewisbcfc74) May 17, 2018
"Sick of going through Insta and seeing girls commenting on other girls pictures 'look at u!! and 'have you seen yourself’ grow up man you don't even know each other," he wrote. The tweet inadvertently inspired a thread of women who came together for the sole purpose of complimenting one another.
Girl you’re one to talk. Look at your skin, GLOWING
— Saya Norton (@sayanorton_) May 18, 2018
At the time of writing this article, the original tweet had 2,000 replies — most of which are women lifting each other up. Could someone please @ me when all of Twitter is this perfect?
6. Meghan Markle's pre-glow up photo
When actress Meghan Markle married Prince Harry on May 19, we were blessed not only with gorgeous photos from the big day, but with photos of a young Markle in her pre-royal family days. While she was off becoming the Duchess of Sussex, the internet was busy obsessing over an old photo of the former actress as a teen tourist posing in front of Buckingham Palace in London.
Straight-up inspired by her transformation from teen tourist to adult royal, people dubbed Markle's love story the Ultimate Glow Up. #Goals

7. Dramatic Little League kid
Little League is no laughing matter. Unless, of course, you're this adorable jokester who was told to run from third base to home "as fast as he can."
In one of the most dramatic moments in Little League's little history, Twitter user @TabbyRodriguez's teeny cousin Lenn completed his victory sprint in agonizing slow motion, taking more than 45 seconds to run to home base. Lenn ignored the haters, making for some absolutely perfect content.
8. Jenna Fischer telling The Office fans about Pam and Michael's airport goodbye
Fans of the beloved NBC comedy The Office still aren't ready to let go of their Scranton family. So when Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesley on the show, took a moment to reminisce about the emotional Goodbye, Michael episode, people were pretty pumped.
In an Instagram live, Fischer revealed to followers what her character said to Steve Carrell's during their touching airport goodbye scene.
"That was me talking to Steve," Fischer told her Instagram followers. "I told him all the ways I was going to miss him when he left our show. Those were real tears and a real goodbye. That was a really emotional scene."
BRB, sobbing.

9. Fans coming together after Brooklyn Nine-Nine was cancelled
A brief moment of absolute panic descended upon Brooklyn Nine-Nine Twitter in May after it was revealed that the show had been cancelled by Fox.
ME IMMEDIATELY AFTER FINDING OUT @Brooklyn99FOX WAS CANCELLED AT WORK pic.twitter.com/8IrllX2TYU
— Nicole Gallucci (@nicolemichele5) May 10, 2018
Fans (and celebs) were distraught by the news, but quickly bounced back from mourning to fight like hell to keep the show going. People tweeted at networks, shared how important the plot lines and characters were to their lives, and furiously thanked the creators, writers, actors, and crew members for all their hard work.
And you know what? IT WORKED. In a beautiful 2018 plot twist, NBC decided to pick up the comedy for a sixth season. One of the most blessed turn of events all year.
We got your SIX! #Brooklyn99 is officially coming to NBC! pic.twitter.com/NNQw2OZquH

10. Mom's viral cheesecake rant
"Do you want the fucking cake or do you not want the fucking cake?" That's the question fed-up baker and business owner Kim Copeland — and eventually thousands of others — were dying to know the answer to in May 2018.
The internet got the rage-filled hero it needed when Twitter user @adrienne_bc shared an entertaining 2:20 long video of her mom, Copeland, contemplating a vague AF cheesecake order commitment made by some flaky person named Ginger. After reading their text exchanges, reflecting on proper cake-ordering etiquette, and explaining everything she has going on in her own busy life, Copeland straight-up went OFF, asking, "Just tell me, Ginger, do you want the fucking cheesecake?"
I wonder if Ginger will dare order another fucking cheesecake again.
11. Kendall Jenner vs. Kacey Musgraves
Ah, FEUDS! Gotta love 'em... especially when they're between celebrities, and they end far sooner than expected and in a very gentle manner, right? Thus is the story of Kendall Jenner and Kacey Musgraves' short-lived, not-actually-a-feud feud.
The tale goes like this: In May, Jenner shared a photo on Instagram of herself sipping tea on a New York City rooftop while wearing lingerie...as one does. And in the background of her picture was a Musgraves billboard, except OH WAIT. It's blurred out. *gasp*
A post shared by Kendall (@kendalljenner) on May 3, 2018 at 4:44pm PDT
In response Jenner's possible shade, Musgraves shared a screenshot of the Instagram post to her own story, prompting Jenner to apologize profusely for the misunderstood shade via Twitter. Jenner explained she "...didn’t edit this photo! Kacey is literally my fuckin fav! ... ask anyone of my homies i die for her!"
Aw, how nice. It's refreshing to take a breather from hardcore public feuding every so often, isn't it?
12. Busting a move at graduation
Few days in life are as important as your pre-school graduation, and 5-year-old Aubrey Toby celebrated hers to the fullest.
On stage, diploma in-hand and dressed in her purple cap and gown, the precious and fiercely talented North Carolina student proudly danced her way across the stage and towards the exciting world of kindergarten.
Toby's godfather Merle Murrain II shared footage of her busting a celebratory move to Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling" alongside her far-less enthused classmates. She clearly stole the show and better make the graduation dance a regular part of any future ceremonies.
A post shared by Merle Murrain II (@themerlemurrain) on Jun 2, 2018 at 9:59am PDT
13. The #APESHITCHALLENGE
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have had quite the 2018 already, what with going on tour together and dropping a joint album out of nowhere. And in case that wasn't enough, they also inspired a very good viral challenge.
The #APESHITCHALLENGE was born after Bey and Jay dropped their music video for "APESHIT" (which was casually filmed at the Louvre in Paris, btw). In one scene, Beyoncé thrashes at the top of a massive staircase while dressed in a huge white gown. Fans promptly recreated the moment in their own homes, using a white bed sheet to get the effect.
14. Hillary Clinton mocking James Comey
Remember that time Hillary Clinton absolutely roasted former FBI Director James Comey on Twitter? 'Twas brilliant.
She simply couldn't resist after it was announced that Comey used a personal email account for his own official government business. Yes, this is the same Comey who opened an investigation ahead of the 2016 election into Clinton's private email account usage during her time as Secretary of State.
But my emails. https://t.co/G7TIWDEG0p
— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) June 14, 2018
"But my emails," Clinton wrote, quote-tweeting news of Comey's personal email troubles. A tweet so iconic it almost lives up to "Delete your account."
15. DJ Switch
Say hello to DJ Switch, the coolest young DJ in Ghana. BBC News Africa shared a video of Erica, aka DJ Switch, who started dropping beats at the age of 9 and has been inspiring people ever since.
"I picked the name DJ Switch because I switch up people's happiness," Erica said, explaining that while DJing is her passion, she wants to be a gynocologist when she grows up so that she can "help women."
HERO.
16. A massive Twitter thread of puppies
Finally, we end this light and joyous trip down memory lane with this extremely lengthy Twitter thread of puppies meeting, playing, and being very cute together. Twitter user @BlairBraverman truly blessed the internet with this one.
As you know, we have a lot of puppies right now. pic.twitter.com/Vsw5SE0Wzt
— Blair Braverman (@BlairBraverman) June 26, 2018
It's been a wild ride. Let's hope there's more where these came from in the second half of 2018.
