I recently bought a collection of Edgar Allen Poe works (I recognize it's a bit of a crime I didn't seek one out before) and istg this man writes one theme and one theme only and I'm living for it

#literature #edgar allen poe #gothic literature #dark romanticism #obviously I'm exaggerating each work has its own set of themes and I'm talking about the narrative/horror ones #but all of his more known works are in some way about someone (usually just some guy) descending into madness because of one little action #if you're in an edgar allen poe story you could say “I like cheese” and end up at the bottom of the sewer cutting up rat meat as you sing #the forgotten cheesemaker song to appease the spirits after murdering your wife. who you fed to the rats.
