So... @sevdrag’s incredible fic Old Vines has been in my head for weeks, and my brain usually responds to these kinds of situations in one of two ways. It seemed a bit much to write fanfic of a fanfic, so I made a playlist of songs that make me think of this fabulous story. (Did I mostly do this so that I can continue to exist in this universe even when I’m not reading it? Perhaps. I will neither confirm nor deny). 

All the songs and justifications for their inclusion are listed below the cut. If you’re listening on free spotify on mobile, the app probably added other songs that ARE NOT sanctioned, so the OFFICIAL list is below. I also recommend listening in order (I tried to mirror the narrative), but if you’re feeling wild, put it on shuffle and see if you can guess who/what each song is referencing. 

I’ll probably definitely be adding songs as the story progresses. (I definitely don't already have a couple songs set aside based on what I think might happen).

“Nine” by Sleeping at Last--Aziraphale’s song; the peacemaker folding himself into something he’s not to appease others (*cough* Gabriel *cough*)

“I’ll Be Good” by Jaymes Young--Crowley’s song, particularly in relation to his fall from grace

“Sparks Fly” by Taylor Swift--LOOK, I KNOW, but honestly, has any other song ever captured the JOY and EXCITEMENT of early attraction quite like this one?? NO. This song is PERFECT for that seemingly interminable, pine-filled flirtfest that our heroes put us through for, like, seven chapters

“Figure Me Out” by The Summer Set--Aziraphale’s Song II. Sonically very different than “Nine,” (look, I never said anyone but me would actually like this playlist, least of all Aziraphale), but thematically similar, and reflecting some of that growth and determination I think we’re starting to see from him (or I anticipate seeing from him)

“Get Into My Car” by Echosmith--because obviously. Do I need to explain this one? I don’t think so

“Six” by Sleeping at Last--Crowley’s Song II. To me, Crowley reads very much as a Type Six in this story. (I’m undecided what type he is in the book/show; in the Snamily Chronicles, he’s definitely an Eight, and Az is a Two ((Az is a Nine in this one)) but that’s a conversation for another time)

“King” by Lauren Aquilina--Look, I’m not sure who needs to tell Crowley, BUT CAN SOMEONE PLEASE REMIND THIS MAN THAT HE’S GONNA BE OKAY??? AND WHAT HAPPENED 11 YEARS AGO HAPPENED 11 YEARS AGO? I think this song could be coming from Pepper, Anathema, or maybe even Zira, but whoever delivers it, this is a message Crowley needs to hear

“King of My Heart” by Taylor Swift--What? you’re asking, more Taylor Swift? Yes, get ready, this is only 2 of 3. Also, the lyrics in this one are perfect? “We met a few weeks ago/now you’re trying on calling me ‘baby’ like trying on clothes”? “Your love is a secret I’m hoping, dreaming, dying to keep”? “Change my priorities”? TELL ME THIS SONG WASN’T MADE FOR THEM. I DARE YOU.

“La Vie en Rose” by Jason Lux featuring Nieka Moss--how Aziraphale feels about Crowley

“peace” by Taylor Swift--Crowley, to Aziraphale. He won’t admit it yet, but this is where he is

“Gold All Over the Ground” by Brad Paisley--tbh, I went back and forth about including this one; it’s a personal favorite of mine, but they’re not quite here yet. Also it’s country, and while I mostly made this playlist for myself, I know lots of people have Strong Opinions about country music. But it’s here, because this is definitely how they feel about each other, even though they’re too scared to say so yet, and because it brought the total songs to 11, which is how many chapters there are in the story so far
