Canary AU
Creator: @rumiracle-whip and @burning-sol
Campaign: Riptide
Links: the fic "A sister's burden" and the canary au tag
Summary!
A swap au where Jay is killed in battle and Ayva joins the riptide pirates.
Additional propaganda!
Hi there, Scrubby here to deliver propaganda on my much beloved au. The Canary AU answers the question of "What would happen if Jay died instead of Ayva" and what would happen is that everything would go a whole lot worse. Ayva Ferin is grieving, she's angry, she's finding a family again after denouncing her blood relatives, she's even a lesbian! Truly everything you could want!
p.s. If this au wins I'll actually start writing the damn thing in the near future. okay im done toodles xoxo
Instead of Ayva Ferin, Jay dies and Ayva takes her place in the riptide pirates

14 for the ask game !! :3
:D tysm !!
14: overgrown
After the war was over and won, and RAFT was burned to the ground, and Drey no longer had a bounty on his head, he returned to Featherbrooke to pay his respects.
His family had a plot in the graveyard, rows of stones with the Ferin name engraved on them, most of them with a scarlet flag marking them as the burial place of a hero of the Navy, including the one he was looking for.
Jay was with him, a letter in one hand, a badge in the other, and what Drey hoped was peace on her face. It was about halfway through the row when Drey tripped on something.
“Fucking hell,” he muttered, spitting out dirt, already feeling the sting of scrapes on his body.
“You okay?” Jay asked, concern apparent.
“Yeah kid, I’m okay.”
When he lifted his head to see what he had caught his foot on, he was confronted with his own name.
Drey Ferins headstone was a small, unassuming thing. There wasn’t much information on it aside from his name, birthday, and assumed date of death. There was no engraving of “beloved son” or “dearly missed” or even “bastard traitor pirate”. The reason he had missed his own gravestone was the fact that it was completely overgrown. Weeds covered it, the grass was noticeably taller than the surrounding graves, it seemed like his family was happy enough to bury him and forget him.
“Oh,” Jay said.
Drey shrugged, “It’s fine kid, surprised I even got in. Now help me up so we can go say hi to Ava, yeah?”
Jay nodded, grabbing one of his arms, “I mean, we can weed it if you want but we don’t really need it anymore, do we.”
“We all die eventually kid, might as well take care of my final resting place.”

Since it was my birthday today, i did some voice lines for some of my selfships...
Self indulgent, as all my stuff tends to be
Got carried away with one of em...next up, family!
Albedo
About Persephone: birthday
"Traveler, have you seen Persephone? I was hoping to catch them before evening starts. Why? There are a few things I have planned for us. They had asked for an alchemical flower....to think that alchemical creations are beautiful to them...In any case, please do tell my little anomaly to come find me in the Favonious library, I shall be waiting for them."
Arlecchino
About Persephone: birthday
"Traveler, I am delighted you could make it. I know both the children and my dearest Persephone will be happy you've come. Be a dear and help Lyney bring the food out to the table. The children wanted to go all out for Persephone's first birthday with us as my spouse. Yes, they are my spouse, traveler, the Ferines wedding rites aren't a public affair. If you do not believe me, feel free to ask them for yourself. Whatever you may feel about the Fatui Harbingers or myself, Do Not Ruin today. Persephone will pick up on your sour mood and will spend their special day saddened. You do not wish to make my beloved sad...do you?.....What's with that look traveler? Did it seem like I was threatening you? Take my words for whatever you wish, but do not spoil Persephone's joy. You will deal with the whole of the House of the Hearth should you do so. Chop chop, we have a celebration to attend to, now smile for your friends day of birth. Hehe."
Dehya
About Persephone: birthday
"What's up traveler? Oh, this stuff? It's for Persephone's birthday celebration. Dunyarzad insists on having a small get together. I'm preparing the stuff I'll need to help them get away. They don't really like being surprised but they'll be happy that their friends thought about them. Here, you're invited, I was gonna come find you before the party anyway. Now c'mon, we're going to celebrate my sweet one's birthday."
Navia
About Persephone: birthday
"Partner! Come with me, I need some help getting the ingredients for more macaroons and Persephones' birthday dinner! They love valberry and sunsettia macaroons and I wanted to make them a batch of each. After that we'll be having a candlelit dinner of Pile'em up, they miss Mondstadt specialities so I wanted to make sure they got some for their special day."
Venti
About Persephone: birthday
"Traveler! Perfect timing! Care to help me with an order? I have a new bow to pick up from Wagner here soon but I also need to get some apples, sunsettia's, and some sugar. Why? Well it's my beloved sweet flowers birthday and I wasn't able to get all the ingredients earlier as I was dealing with keeping them preoccupied without sending them to do errands on their birthday. So now they're playing with QiQi and Diona. What do ya say, help your favorite bard out with his windblumes birthday preparations? I know they've been talking about sending you an invite for tea."
Rain
About Persephone: birthday
"Traveler, have you seen the water dancer? No, not Nilou, she already came by to give her blessings. Blessings for what? For my water dancers birthday. Oh, NOW you realize who i'm talking about. Tch, aren't you their friends? What, never seen em dance on the water before? Hmph, they haven't done that for anyone else huh? Anyway, I'm off, I need to go find them and give them a show of their own. See ya later, loser."
Yelan
About Persephone: birthday
"Well traveler, what have you come to see me for? Information? Need help hunting someone down? Oh, you wanted to see Persephone....my qingxin is busy with their baking. You can find them at our home near the morax statue on the way into Liyue Harbor. Yes, we do live together. Is that so shocking to you? Anyway, if you're on your way to see them, take this letter and bouquet of qingxin to them for me and tell them I'll be home in just a bit. You're a real doll, thanks."

On ep 47 of jrwi and god. The duality between gil and jay is so interesting like. Jay (i assume considering what ive learned so far) refused what was given to her cuz she doesnt want anything to do with the navy and doing the literal opposite in becoming a pirate, while gil is so focused on being everything he is expected to be that everything he does has a purpose, has a “destiny” like. Idk i think their moment that happened was really telling of both them esp since they both p much admitted that sailing as a pirate was essentially the most amount of freedom theyve had. I just think that jay and gil are both similar but also incredibly different. Riptide pirates my beloved
#jrwi#just roll with it#jay ferin#gillion tidestrider#jrwi riptide#riptide pirates#guy who finished ep 47 while typing this#idk im very interested in seeing how stuff w jays backstory pans out#like. idk i love all of the pirates they are my beloveds#me when found family

The Kings of Pereto
Once, there were two kings who loved each other.
The first one was King Drevos, ruler of Arucaris, the mighty kingdom of the Southern Seas. At his command was the sprawling Arucar Empire, a vast country of imposing military might and robust trade. He was a mighty king, beloved by his people. He was quick to anger but quick to forgive and he always did put his people first.
The second king was then Crown Prince Surimo, heir to the throne of Nuvar, a small kingdom of magic and wonder. It is often said that the birthplace of magic was in Nuvar and the glorious Sussuration Towers, the best academy to study magic, was located in Nuvar. Nuvar did not have Arucaris' military might but its magic was terrible to behold. In times of war, the royal bloodline could, at great cost, raise the Evendi Wall, a powerful and impregnable wall of magic that circled the entire Nuvar kingdom. The Wall allowed no one to come in or out, serving as both prison and protection.
Arucaris and Nuvar had always peacefully co-existed next to each other. Diplomatic relations were always cheerful and trade was robust. Arucaris wanted Nuvar's magic and culture and Nuvar wanted Arucaris' industry goods and science. King Drevos and Prince Surimo would always meet at the Bridge City of Kathundis, the huge and beautiful bridge that connected Arucaris and Nuvar. Centuries ago, it was merely a ten-kilometer wide bridge constructed over the Ferin River to connect the two kingdoms. Over time, villages popped up, populated by people who wanted easy access to both the kingdoms.
It was here in this bridge that the two royals would meet and talk.
"It is always beautiful here," King Drevos said.
"The magic of Nuvar constructed this bridge and flows through it. Of course, it is beautiful," Prince Surimo said and took a sip of his tea.
"No," King Drevos said and took Prince Surimo's hand. "It is beautiful because you are here."
Prince Surimo spilled his tea and could not think of anything to say. But neither did he take his hand back. He merely looked at the side, at the flowing river, and smiled.
King Drevos kissed Surimo's hand and murmured into it, "when we are married, we will rule from here. On this bridge. To show the people that our kingdoms are no longer separate but one."
"We will smell like the catfishes from the river," Prince Surimo said. "No one will take our rule seriously."
"Ah," King Devros said and kissed his hand again. "But we will be happy catfishes."
Things were well and it was said that King Drevos and Prince Surimo would finally marry and unite the kingdoms. It would be the event of the century.
But the Rust War happened.
The Horde of Gevila, led by Overlord Iranis had finally broken through the White Mountainguard and, for the first time in a millennium, was free to invade its neighbors to the north.
Iranis' ambition was insatiable. Kingdom after kingdom, state after state fell under his Horde. Gevila was a tribal kingdom. Aside from the Mountainguard, they were also kept in check by their own internal rivalries. Iranis neatly solved all of this by assassinating the head of each major tribe until he was the only one who remained.
And so, for most of the Rust War, Iranis conquered, pillaged and destroyed until, at last, he came to the doorstep of Nuvar.
Prince Surimo had always known that Iranis would end up at his doorstep and time and time again, he had implored King Drevos' help.
"We must lend aid to our neighbors to the South. Arucaris and Nuvar must march to their cause while they still have banners to raise!"
King Drevos shook his head. "I will not send my people into danger. Iranis knows that, for all of his ambition and bloodthirstiness, if he assails my kingdom, he will be shattered against the might of my people."
Prince Surimo shook his head as well. "No, but he will definitely march against me. And what then? What about my people?"
"If he marches against your kingdom, I will come to your aid. My soldiers will defend your walls."
"But so many of my people would die!" Prince Surimo said.
"More would die if they went to war head-on!"
"At least, they would die liberators instead of cowards hiding behind walls!"
There was silence. Eventually, Prince Surimo stood up and started walking away.
"Is that what you think of me? A coward?" King Drevos asked.
Prince Surimo stopped and looked back at him. "Please," he begged. "If you have any love for me, we must march together against the Horde. Nuvar cannot march alone. It needs Arucaris to march with it."
King Drevos looked at him. "I'm sorry. But I do not wish to inflict war on my people unless it comes to me."
Prince Surimo closed his eyes, defeat in his shoulders. "Then I bid you farewell, King Drevos. May the war never find you."
That night, there was a loud gasp from Arucaris as a great shimmering tower of light exploded upwards from Nuvar. It was a brilliant plume of blue light that reached to the sky before it bent and wrapped itself around the kingdom.
The Evendi Wall had been raised.
Iranis' Horde fell upon the wall, dashing stone and steel against it. They summoned their war-demons and set them against the Wall. They conjured dark flames of destruction and unleashed it. Time and time again, the Wall repelled them, standing steadfast and true.
King Drevos rushed to Kathundis and found that exactly half of the bridge city was behind the Wall.
"Surimo!" he called out. "Prince Surimo! I demand an audience with you!"
There was silence until, finally, a small portion of the wall faded from an opaque blue until it was completely transparent. Standing behind it was Prince Surimo.
"What have you done, Surimo?!" King Drevos demanded.
"Nuvar cannot go to war without Arucaris. Neither can it let war come inside. The Wall is our only recourse." Surimo said.
"Prince Surimo, please-"
"King Surimo."
"...what?"
"It is King Surimo now," Surimo said and looked at King Drevos with nothing but blame in his eyes. "The Evendi Wall can only be raised at great cost to the royal family. Its protection is ever-enduring and I am now king because of it."
King Drevos was stunned silent. He could only look at Prince-... King Surimo. He felt anger, rage, regret and, most of all, shame.
"I must go. My kingdom needs me," King Surimo said and turned away. The wall started turning into an opaque blue again.
King Drevos slammed his palm against it. "Surimo, please! It cannot end here! We cannot end here! I will do anything! What do you want me to do?!"
King Surimo looked at him from behind the Wall and, just before it turned completely opaque, he said to King Drevos, "What you should have always done."
