I like to think that, once Mystra removes it, Gale gains a lot of stamina back, that he hadn't realized he'd lost because he'd just... gotten used to it. I think some things will always bother him post orb (bad knees lol) but he has more energy than he did when the orb was causing pain and exhaustion he had to fight through ever day.

if you ask him what he'll do if he ever feels the orb getting out of control, he already has a whole ass plan just ready to go

I'd like to posit that Gale was on his way to find someplace remote and as far away from civilization as he could get to detonate the orb when the Nautiloid scooped him up

and that's why when Mystra tasks him to detonate it to destroy the absolute he's just like "Oh okay cool" it's just his original plan now with a sense of "purpose" and "fulfillment"

And you can imagine how that might fuck him up. The orb lodges in his chest, he's realized he fucked up big time, he reaches out to Mystra for help-

And there's nothing. Just silence. Not even a goodbye.

//I start Gale as true neutral, even tho he does lean towards neutral good even in the beginning, specifically because boy will overlook a lot. Like a lot, a lot if he cares about someone.

Like, yes he (generally) tries to do good and be good, but if someone he loves does something bad? Well, he can't just abandon them, can he? They're more important than any arbitrary rules about good and bad.

And that's how he talks himself into bad things very easily lmao

In a Gale play through, Tara basically says she knows if anyone can solve this problem, it's you, and implies Morena would say something in the same vein. Which it's good that they support him of course! But it does very much lead him to the conclusion that they believe in him and he can't let them down. Which prevents him from being open about what he needs from them and asking for help.

So even though I know both Morena and Tara would give him the love he needs and deserves, he can't let himself ask for it. He can't let them down.

//listen, while I do think the oblivious Gale jokes are funny, I don't actually think that's what's really happening here. In fact, I think Gale is acutely aware that you're interested in him. I just don't think he can quite believe it, until the weave scene where it's undeniable.

In act 1 especially, the man's self worth is in the toilet. He tries to hide it behind bravado, but he doesn't think he's worth anything if he can't do magic, something that I think has been reinforced throughout his life, whether on purpose or accidentally. So when you show interest in him, he can't quite grasp in that moment that you're actually interested in him and not what he can do.

And then of course there's the orb, which limits his... physical intimacy options, shall we say. He's very big on physical affection in relationships, and I think not being able to give that to a partner also weighs on him heavily. Plus there's always the chance that if he gets too excited he will literally kill both of you. Kind of a downer lmao.

So tl:dr: he knows you're interested he just doesn't think he's worth your affection until you figuratively shove it down his throat

The exception to that is teaching of course, because children are just going to fireball his robes anyway, so he makes sure he has a lot of plain teaching robes. He keeps them at home and at Blackstaff, because things happen lmao

I think eventually he would very much like to settle in Waterdeep with his partner, but he's patient. He can wait for them to be ready too. And even if they do settle, he won't mind the odd adventure or two every once in a while XD

I tend to headcanon Gale's relationship with Mystra as more transactional in nature, simply because that's how gods tend to work right? You do something for me, I do something for you

However, that has lead to Gale feeling like he has to do something in a relationship to earn any sort of affection or devotion even. He offers up undying loyalty and devotion to his partners as easy as breathing because that's what he does, it's who he is, that's what his love has always been, even barring his thing with Mystra.

But when someone tries to reciprocate that, he panics, because he feels like he has to do something to earn that sort of undying loyalty and devotion in turn, even if he offers his own freely, because it's not something that has ever been given to him freely.
