Social Club Misfits – The Misadventures of Fern and Marty

I don’t know about you but I find myself listening to music on YouTube more and more these days. In fact loads of the new music I discover is via music videos… The Misadventures of Fern and Marty has only been out a short while and it already has four official music videos released (and I wouldn’t bet against more coming soon). The first video released off this new album was Pop Out Revenge (shown above) which at the time of writing this had gained over 228,000 views on YouTube in less than three months. It’s been shared more than 3000 times on YouTube alone and is currently still being consistently viewed over 2000 times every day!

Video play numbers are interesting, but they don’t really mean anything if the music sucks… so what does it sound like? Honestly, brilliant!

Social Club Misfits have always put out quite a diverse sound, and don’t get me wrong there’s still a lot of variety on this album… but somehow it seems more cohesive than before. I don’t know if they’ve intentionally decided to craft a more distinct sound as Social Club Misfits, or if it’s just the way things went in the studio, but I have no complaints. Smooth rap flows mixed with quality vocals and synth pads and tight beats – it works for me. There’s a return of some familiar faces as features; Andy Mineo, Chris Batson, Tree Giants, Aha Gazelle and Chris Durso all team up with Social Club Misfits again on this fresh album. I was especially excited to see Chris Batson and Tree Giants team up with the Misfits again as these combinations have produced some of my favourite tracks before; let’s face it Courage is an absolute belter!

Courage, Sky Lanterns, Pretty In Pink and Burn The Bridge are the Social Club Misfit tracks that get the fan in me excited from previous albums so I was keen to see what would I be able to add to this list from this album. Happily, there’s loads that fits the bill; Different People, Maybe and How Good are all instant additions to my playlists at home. But the pick of the bunch for me is the Misfit Anthem featuring Riley Clemmons. It’s a perfect blend of uplifting rap with a huge chorus hook which draws you in. If you’re not a fan of getting caught out singing with your headphones on don’t listen to this track – joining in is compulsory not optional! The cherry on the cake was spotting its inclusion on Gary Vaynerchuk’s daily vlog, an inspired (but at the same time unusual) inclusion for a multi-millionaire hustler who is famous for swearing like a trooper. 

I loved so much about the album, but if I had to narrow it down to just three top tracks to submit to out playlist it would be:

Baptisé F.E.R.N. pour Fynoti’s Emergency Response Network, permet aux utilisateurs de la solution de se prévenir mutuellement et d’intervenir en cas d’alerte. Ces deux fonctionnalités sont présentes sur l’application mobile . La première SHOUT, vous permet d’envoyer à votre réseau une photo d’une situation ou d’un personnage suspect. La seconde PANIQUE, vous permet de demander de l’aide en cas de problème.
