the exorcist 1971 book had closeted men, the exorcist 1973 adaptation had hand holding, the exorcist 2016 had a bisexual priest and 1 lesbian per season, the exorcism had lesbian sex between exorcists. Now we enter new frontiers and the next exorcist sequel or homage’s main story will feature gay divorce

actually rewatching the exorcist 2016 i forget how much of s1 is a really messed up exploration of a teenage girl being groomed and abused by essentially an older man through the form of demonic possession. so many scenes are this demon in the shape of this man, first making her feel pretty and special and then beginning to hurt her and make her hurt herself worse and worse, and the entire section dedicated to exorcising it is this poor girl Suffering worse and worse

which is also interesting because i think a lot of possession movies are about sexual awakenings and often i read them through trans lenses as well, but this one is very good at unambiguously being about abuse and recontextualising the original movie/book into being far more specifically about that + the queerness of the priest and multiple of the other main characters. idk i just think it's got such a strong Context to what it's doing
