'Andrew Garfield and Tom Hardy are to play the iconic roles of Winston Smith and Big Brother in an audio adaptation of George Orwell's world-famous novel, 1984.
The dystopian tale is set in a nightmarish future, where a superstate named Oceania is held in the grip of a totalitarian leader, whose forces ensure freedom of thought and expression is harshly restricted.
The story unfolds from the perspective of Winston, the archetypal 'everyman', who begins to question the regime and – together with his colleague and lover, Julia (Cynthia Erivo) – seeks out a resistance group called The Brotherhood.
This latest adaptation also features celebrated Fleabag and All of Us Strangers star Andrew Scott as O'Brien, a mysterious figure who crosses paths with Winston and Julia on their journey.
This full cast for the audio drama also features Romesh Ranganathan as Parsons, Natasia Demetriou as Mrs Parsons, Chukwudi Iwuji as Charrington, Francesca Mills as Syme, Katie Leung as Ling and Alex Lawther as Ampleforth.
For Lawther, 1984 marks a reunion with director Destiny Ekaragha, who previously helmed episodes of Channel 4 comedy-drama The End of the F***ing World, which proved to be his breakout project.
Ekaragha said: "This is my first experience directing an audio drama, and what an honour it was to work so closely with a cast of this calibre. I can't wait for everyone to hear what the Andrews, Cynthia and Tom have done with these iconic characters."
1984 will be available to listen to on Audible from Thursday 4th April 2023, marking exactly 40 years since Winston's first diary entry in the classic novel. The title is available for pre-order now through Audible.
In addition to the high-profile actors, the production also features music from Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri (Informer), who have crafted an original score performed by a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road studios.
The soundtrack includes two re-workings of Muse songs.
Aurelie de Troyer, Head of Regional Content, Europe at Audible, added: "This is 1984 like you've never heard it before.
"We've assembled a top team of creatives across the board, and the combination of the principal cast and Matt and Ilan's epic soundtrack is something quite extraordinary.
"Andrew Garfield was born to play Winston – just wait until you hear his performance."'

8 shows to get to know me by:
Avatar The Last Airbender: This was childhood show and I still love it. Toph, Zuko & Azula are me. Also Katara is my sister
Sharp Objects: Camille Preaker is me vibes. Also this show makes me feel things. "A child weaned on poison considers harm a comfort"
Arcane: Jinx is me Vi is my sister. Psychosis and childhood trauma have also turned me a wee bit insane.
Soul Eater: Crona is me core and my mom has also manipulated me into her puppet. Crona has been my icon for years for a reason. And one of my friends even used to call me Crona.
House of The Dragon: I vibe with Alicent Hightower and Helaena Targaryen hard man. The family fuckery in this show is a huge mood. Otto and my father have more in common then I think either would like.
The Haunting of Hill House: When Olivia went insane I was like MOM? Theo and I feel just a lot man so we twin on that.
One Day at A Time (Netflix): When Elena got her Quince suit and her mother and family supported her??? As a Latine who never got xyr Quince and has a father who won't accept their identity???? I mean??? You might just need to watch that Arc to like get it but I mean ugh
Interview with The Vampire (AMC): I have been told I am Claudia. And I love the fucked up dynamics.
Others: Hannibal, End of the F***ing World, Perception, Anahoa, full metal alchemist brotherhood, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Pheanis and Ferb, doctor who

⚠️TW: SA, Zeus, 18+, memtioned r@q3, powerdynamics ⚠️
Thank you! It's such a weird lyric! It fits so well, and Jorge was iconic for writing it. But what the f.. the sentence is wrong on so many levels. Infact, everything Zeus says in that song is questionable.* But everyone is just talking about his hot voice (Luke Holt did a great job there I will admit, even if I continue to preffer others)
*everything Zeus ever said is questionable. He shall strike me down with his Lighting if I'm earnestly wrong (it's a stormy night where I live)
But fr, that's the most Zeus sentence to ever Zeus. (My following critique is not against the songwriter or singer, but purely against the implications made, and Zeus in his myths)
We gonna come back to the Pride-part, let's talk about his literal wording. "A damsel in distress, hiding away where only I can undress her", ew... just ew... You know, other people may be like "oh no, a damsel in distress, she surely can't help herself, so someone must save her!" And some heroic sexist speach later she's either saved or the person is defeated. Not Zeus tho, nu-uh, no saving here, not even trying, hes the one who kidnapped her, probably. She's hiding from him! and/or the outside world... and well, he's going ful r@q3 on her. And this is his first sentence in the song?! The second time that we hear him in the musical so far at all? Damn...
"Try all she can not to confess. In the end its all the same, once I apply all the pressure"
Did someone ever tell him that forced consent is not consent? Not that he would care, but still... I know his mother wasn't around, sticking with her children eating husband, but he was raised by Nymphs, surely they must have had the talk at least once... welp, like I said, not that he would care anyway, right? It's f-ing Zeus...
Also, not him talking about pressure like he would know where to put it, iykwim. He definitely doesn't know. All the years of immorality don't help him there, he would need to care for that.
"Thunder, bring her through the wringer. Show her I'm the judgment call. The one who makes her kingdom fall" - same thing with the wringer, consent and all that. But here is the point where you have to consider the fact that he is talking about a personification of Pride here. He wants to see Odysseus Pride, his Hubris, falter, cower before him...
"Lightning, wield her, use and yield her Show her what she can't conceal For true nature will be revealed" I'll bet wield and use her is something he is quite familiar with, what's interesting is that he uses his lighting for it, his power, his status. I already lost the plot about the Pride thing again, but it is 100% also about the women, you cannot tell me otherwise... the Pride thing tho, him wanting to reveal Odys true nature... Well Circe already tried that, didn't she? And even with the Holy Moly from Hermes, she could have succeeded at some point. Anyway, point is, Zeus thinks he is whipping out a big bolder of secrets when he wants to show Odysseus and his crew that Odys Pride goes over the life's of the crew. First off, was he asleep while they sank about Monster and Mutiny? Secondly, he's mistaken. It's not the Pride, but his love to penelope that drives him forward. Well, at least in this version. But, and this might be a hot take, idk, he makes the right decision here. Zeus is there to punish those who killed the sungods cows. Odysseus didn't. He specifically told them not to do it. He tried to save them, again, but they pissed of Zeus. Ody told them he would come for them if they did that, they did it anyway. Isn't the Thunder just the sound for consequences of your own actions here? Be so fr with me rn.
So, while I love to go more into detail, I have appointments tomorrow for which I will have to be more or less awake, so imma go sleep now. See you next time with Revyn_dramatises_epic_for_no_fing_reason

'George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece “1984” is getting a new audio-only treatment from Audible.
The Audible original audio drama, set to premiere April 4, stars Andrew Garfield (“Tick, Tick…Boom,” “The Amazing Spider-Man”) as Winston alongside Cynthia Erivo (“Wicked,” “Harriet”) as Julia. They are joined by Tom Hardy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight Rises”) as the voice of Big Brother and Andrew Scott (“All of Us Strangers,” “Fleabag”), who plays the mysterious and dangerous O’Brien...
Audible’s “1984” is directed by BAFTA-winner Destiny Ekaragha (“Ted Lasso,” “The End of the F***ing World”) and written by Joe White (“Blackout Songs,” “The Little Big Things”). According to Audible, the adaptation remains faithful to the original text, “leaning into the horror of the dystopian setting, whilst going deeper into Winston and Julia’s love story,” the company said. “In a world where love and sex are forbidden, Winston and Julia are the last lovers on Earth.”
Ekaragha said in a statement, “This is my first experience directing an audio drama, and what an honor it was to work so closely with a cast of this caliber. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what Andrew, Cynthia and Tom have done with these iconic characters.”'
