sometimes i do like to see a little wildly explicit homophobia in television ! and it does feel right to have had the school’s rules of order be this background malevolent force for the entire show, operating as a metaphor for heteronormativity and homophobia that isn’t necessarily quite made explicit, and then have it made very explicit here and now.

i'm going back and forth on how i feel about the meta element here. it does broadly work for me as a throughline in the show about the power that fiction holds but i don't totally get what they're going for now that it's so directly explicit and built off the literal characters (e.g. akk and ayan's scene at the beginning being the same dialogue as khan and thua's at the beginning of the show)

at the same time the contrast between wat talking about accepting who you are in the context of their characters vs akk still unable to quite reconcile everything within himself is compelling....

also don't really get the eleventh hour rules revision.... wouldn't she know this already? chadok leaving makes sense but honestly Eye was half expecting him to take responsibility for akk and thua's actions and get fired/resign for it. i admit it’s arguable whether that’s actually any less of a deus ex but he DOES bear partial responsibility and it would allow him to gain a bit of redemption by doing now for akk what he couldn’t for dika. but that’s just my opinion......

did make me crack up. aye folding instantly like a wet paper towel.

and also really love the way that despite being soooo annoying [affectionate] this is one of the first times — aside from episode six — that we've seen akk actively initiating affection between them without aye directly prompting him first. and aye's expression like he doesn't know quite what to do with it but certainly doesn't want it to stop.....

I'm watching The Ex Morning and this is a trip

Sotus is the first thai bl I watched, and first bl, and it reminded me in a lot of ways of my first love (but ending happier lol). Also i was in engineering in college so lmao a lot of thai bls are relatable, especially with the overachieving characters

Ive seen Hes Coming to Me and some of Be My Favorite so i knew they acted in more BL since. I love that this particular show the leads are adults with careers (thats just my preference)

I hate the trope of exes though ToT i am not the intended audience at all. I am not one for second chances especially if it was after emotional pain.

I am interested in this shows setup though. Right now i click with the characters. They feel believable, their past feels Present. I much prefer "actually knew each other before" to the trope of "met somehow as children once, fell in love instantly, met again as adults" just because i hate hate first love/first sight trope The Most. So any history is mmm compelling.

Im excited. The opening with the weather man spat with the broadcaster was ridiculous. I saw my dude Fang from We Are (loved him in that) so I was glad to see him again.

Did anyone see Perfect 10 Liners? Was it good? I want to watch it for several actors I like the work of. But i do not vibe with fluffy college romcom. (We Are was an exception, because it felt more like a friendgroup to me)

There was a long, hanging moment where her thoughts didn’t seem to progress, and she couldn’t formulate the sentence in her head. Had she been more focused, it might have been easier. “Many of you are teenagers,” she said.  “But this isn’t your high school.  I pay you to work under me, to fight for me, and sometimes you’ll bleed for me.  The person standing next to you could be the person who saves you from bleeding one drop too many.  Show each other some fucking respect.”

No words.  If he was going to do something, he would do it in a way that showed respect and no hesitation. ... Her eyes were open as the lipstick kissed her lips.  It moved slowly, pulling at the surface of the lip.  He was ever so careful to avoid a mistake there. His face was very close to hers for this part.

huh. this is actually pretty well written romance

Armored and administered to by her squire, she left the hotel room, with him a step behind. The assistance her assistant provided her was abnormal, perhaps, but… she felt more human than she had in a long, long time. She had hands again- they just weren’t her own.

i can imagine so many ways this kind of thing would be terrible for some people. Edict and Ashley aren't even nemeses, they just fought sometimes

Akk: He’s just a little guy. I mean, sure there was a bit of what could be construed as attempted vehicular manslaughter, and a bit of arson, and threats that if the “irregularities” continued that someone would die of the curse. Akk is the curse so, you know, threatening there. But he’s just so sad with all the internalized homophobia inside him that is the curse…you just want to cuddle him and make him feel safe. Which is exactly what Ayan does so…

Zongzheng Huaien: This feral cat went from pushing his excitable puppy boyfriend away to nearly razing a brothel to the ground because his beloved was there. He got his poor naive boyfriend to agree to forgive him for any misdeed, then promptly knocked him out, kidnapped his adopted sister, got him and his parents arrested and nearly executed, enabled a spiteful frenemy to torture said boyfriend and hit him with a curse so devastating it is literally killing him from the inside out, then shows up wearing the jewelry he pretended to hate when it was given to him expecting to kiss and be loveydovey. He has said that he will have Xiao Bao no matter what, willing or no, and he will torch the earth otherwise. He is a beautiful idiot who was abused by the man who brought him up and never knew love; now that he has fallen ass over teakettle in love he is going to make it everyone else’s problem. I love him so much.

the eclipse, episode 3

thinking about akk being given all the pressure of maintaining order for fear of nebulous but terrifying harms. and the way there are two narrative threads, one about queerness and one about the rigidity of the school and the people in power, that both mirror one another.

akk getting the explicit instruction of maintaining order alongside the implicit instruction of being Normal (straight). ayan (/the protestors) is queer which is in part a metaphor for him acting outside the Rules. the strictness of the school is a metaphor for the rigidity of heteronormative expectations and queerness is a metaphor for following what you believe is right rather than doing what you’re told.

also the curse is a metaphor for homosexuality but i mean.

other thoughts in no particular order:

really funny to have wat instantly clock khan feeling some sort of way about ayan whispering to thua and completely miss akk having his own emotional crisis a foot to the left.

Bonesaw hauled the cleaver out, and Ashley dropped to her knees from the pain.  The cleaver came down again, and cut the rest of the way through the bone. She’d hesitated, and it had cost her.  When dealing with people like this, like Accord, she couldn’t afford any weakness, and yet the weakness was built-in.

10/10 arc. feels like i got repeatedly stabbed in the heart. not saying i haven't enjoyed Victoria's pov, because i have, but i do wonder what a parahumans sequel would have looked like if it was a collection of these types of short stories

so many great things i'm not sure if i could describe them all, but one thing i didn't go into too much was Ashley working around her power, learning what hand motions caused her pain and what didn't, getting help with stuff like clothes from J, and having to come up with her hook at the end here. loved it. might have gone past Sveta in that regard tbh, but that'll likely change when i reach Sveta's interlude or if we spend more time at her house/with her shell broken
