Itā€™s hilarious to me how Vox basically just vanished for half the season after his terrible half-assed mole plan fell through. He gave Sir Pentious the biggest fucking camera known to man to plant and then when the guy inevitably got caught he just went ā€œkysā€ and seemingly gave up all together. Didnā€™t even check to make sure Pen had followed through. He really did try nothing and was all out of ideas.

Tumblr media
So, Iā€™ve been holding onto this girl for a while. Sheā€™s a fan troll.
I adopted her from SophiaBlackwood on Deviantart, and together we came up with a hella cool story for her, which I have adequately expanded in time.
At first, when I saw her, I thought sheā€™d be best as a cobalt blood with that dress. Seemed a logical conclusion for me. But, I did some soul searching, and came up with something a whole lot better. At first, I thought she should be a Caprist.
Tumblr media
Sheā€™s basically pretty chill with authority, doesnā€™t really protest government, or anything like that. Doesnā€™t give two fucks what the empire is doing, as long as she can go about her ways without problem. She exists in the present, and generally would like to keep it that way. Thoughts of the future, of inheriting her fatherā€™s empire of GRUB PATTY RESTAURANTS fills her with stress. Which brings us to...
Tumblr media
Behold. The PATTY PATRIARCH.Ā
This motherfucker right here, is the progenitor, and owner, of the PATRIARCH PATTY franchise of grubburger restaurants. They serve a plate of hot, fresh foodstuffs, harvested straight from the PATRIARCH PLANTATION, on which LIHZYE BORDNE, the aforementioned gothic lolita, lives.Ā
Fields of GRUBBURGER PATCHES, GROUND STARCH LINK BUSHES, RED FRUIT ORB PIE TREES, and a FROZEN DAIRY DRINK GEYSER are characteristic of the PATRIARCH PLANTATION's general makeup. These wonderful delights, as well as others, are harvested around-the-clock by lowblood labourers, who get paid basically fucking nothing, to bring you the best in homegrown alternian foodstuffs.Ā
The best part about it, is it's FREE. Go to any PATRIARCH PATTY location, and just order to your heart's content. The fees came in the TAXES which AUTOMATICALLY DEDUCTED directly from your bank account. Don't have a bank account? You probably noticed you're missing a fiver here, or there, every other day. That's part of the PATTY PATRIARCH'S guaranteed tax plan. He's the KING of patties, and he will take his dues.Ā
Nobody knows where he lives. He's never on the plantation. If you're lucky, when you show up to a restaurant location, he might just zap on down for a visit. Do some clowning around, entertain guests, decapitate a couple lucky patrons for your entertainment, then he's gone before the drones can show up, leaving everyone with the experience of a lifetime.
Around the clock means around the clock. Bring some fucking sunscreen.
Lihzye Bordne is expected to inherit the PATRIARCH line. Which she wants absolutely fucking nothing to do with, because she has other interests.
Their lusus is a giant white Bullgator. Who occasionally feeds on labourers who have been worked to death.
The Condesce is fully aware of the existence of the Patriarch, and she sees him as a bit of a thorn in her side. Since he keeps showing up on Alternia, where adults are fucking forbidden. But she can't do jack shit about him, because where the fuck does he even go? She doesn't know. She has no idea what kind of teleportation technology he's using. She can't trace him. And she's basically given the fuck up, even though she gets taxed for his food too.
Not that it's much of a bother, since she has basically infinity money. She just makes occasional orders of PP food, to make herself feel better about how fucking helpless she is to stop this boy from clowning around.
If you pay the taxes, you are automatically entered in the PATRIARCH Lottery. If you win, you are not told you've won. You wake up in the middle of the day. Terrified. You hear the honking of clown shoes approaching. The door to your respiteblock opens slowly, creaking on its hinges. You tremble. Knowing the end is nigh. A clown has come to cull you, for funsies, or maybe to make some paint from your blood, or take you to clown church. This is it. THIS IS THE E-
The clown puts a paper bag on your bed, then gives you two jaunty, but careful, pats on the head, and quickly retreats, honking all the way. Your bed is wet. But you have survived this day.
The bag is a PATRIARCH MEAL. Extra Large.
Anyway, back to Lihzye.
Lihzye doesn't enjoy the whole 'oppressing the lower castes' thing, but isn't much of one to stand against it either. She occasionally culls particularly cute, or good looking lowbloods to add to her collection. Other times, she'll drag the corpses of those who've died from exhaustion, instead. Lihzye has a parlour full of dolls. Except those dolls are actually stuffed trolls. She takes these poor dudes, and dudettes, and drags them into her preparation room, where she drains their blood out, replaces it with Faygo-based preservatives, then dresses them up in custom-made dresses, gowns, and suits, before setting them up in her parlour. She talks to them. She reads to them. She grooms them, and makes sure they look as good as they did when they were alive, because gross dead looking dolls are nasty as fuck.
She sees this act as 'levelling the caste system'. Because 'we're all equal in death.' Occasionally, if she gets the chance, she'll add a mid, or high blood to her collection, as well, but that's rare. It almost takes getting people to donate their corpses to her directly.Ā
She doesn't drink faygo straight. Instead, she prefers other, refined faygo-based drinks. She'll boil faygo down to its base components, soak tea leaves in the concentrated faygo juices and/or powder, then make faygo tea, using hot faygo water, which exists btw. Other times, she'll distill the sugary juice with wormwood into Faygo Absinthe, which she'll serve chilled, and drip cold faygo water over a cube of refined faygo sugar(sugar extracted from faygo), as you do when drinking Absinthe properly.
Her strife specubi is Hatchetkind. Hand-hatchets, and two-handed one-blade axes both fall into this category. Basically, any woodcutting axe.
Her name is based off of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizzie_Borden
Her chucklevoodoos don't work on living beings. Instead, if she were to ever use them, and directly defy imperial code restricting chucklevoodoo use, her ability is to mind control the dead. Thus making her parlour a small army of puppets. Her dead puppets have the full gammot of powers they had when alive. Thus giving her access, vicariously, to goldblood, blueblood, rustblood, etc powers, depending on who she has in her parlour.

Hey, remember my pet cracktheory that Darrell is a clone of Laserblast, or is somehow connected to him in some way?Ā  I finally cleaned up and sorted out my full list of weird things Iā€™ve noticed that they both have in common, or that otherwise support that, or are just weird about this stupid robot in general.Ā  Because I wasnā€™t fucking joking about there being a lot of it.Ā  Probably not gonna actually amount to anything, especially with not much series left, but meh.Ā  Itā€™s fun.Ā  Enjoy.
---
Appearance/Body:
(Okay, I admit most of this section was pretty much killed by Darrell's canon human form in OK AU, which looked NOTHING like Laser at all. Ā But just in case...)
-Identical body shape/proportions to LB/SF, with wider torso/hips and very thin waist -- maybe a little smaller because he's a teen (and a robot)
Tumblr media
-Very close head shape to LB/SF/PV: Ā square jaw (when itā€™s not exaggerated to make him cuter), similar rectangular shape and proportions if you include the braincase (since it would normally be inside his skull)
-LB's mask looks a LOT like Darrell's head, with the entire top half and most of the sides of his head covered and with circular ear...things
-That mask also tends to be quite expressive, almost functioning as a single eye sometimes
Tumblr media
-Their big heavy boots are also kinda similar (Though honestly Darrell's boots look slightly more like Chip Damage's...)
-LB is based off of the superhero Cyclops, and Darrell is literally a cyclops
-Only robot that really seems to have an organic, human brain, and has human feet too along with Shannon -- even for just the feet, someone's DNA has to be cloned to make him, and not necessarily Boxman's.
-Darrell can grow stubble, according to that one tiny joke shot in Let's Watch the Boxmore Show; his face may be organic just like his brain and feet. Ā Also worth noting, the specific spots on the side of the jaw where LB's/SF's stubble shows are covered by metal for Darrell -- when comparing Darrell and LB, each character's most distinctive visible features (one eye and brain, cheek stubble) are covered up on the other!
Tumblr media
---
Costumes:
-Darrell seems to enjoy dressing up as a HERO -- when he's in cowboy mode he plays a sheriff, and when the bots play Golden Statues he always plays the museum guard, both specifically hero roles!
-In fact, the costumes in general -- he definitely likes pretending he's someone else, rather than just being fashionable like his siblings.
-LB and SF both hide their eyes, and may have something unusual/distinctive about them, especially with Laser because of his eye-based powers. Ā LB!SF in particular would hide his if there was something that might immediately get him recognized as his former identity. Ā Perhaps only having one eye (hence the visor acting as one on occasion like I pointed out)? Ā (We got to see behind LB's mask once in Gar's fear sequence in Face Your Fears, with one red eye showing where the mask was broken, but there it did look like he had two. Ā However, Gar would never have seen what was ACTUALLY under there...)
---
Habits/Personality:
-LB was an anti-hero, willing to do some fucked-up things in the name of good, while Darrell is an anti-villain, who focuses more on just doing his job, having fun, and trying to make his father happy than crushing the heroes out of malice
-Darrell's also just a terrible villain in general. Ā Of course, he's directly killed another villain (or tried to anyway), and his idea of doing the most evilest thing was reporting Boxman's lies to the board and stopping him, AKA doing the RIGHT thing -- even with the betrayal, not very villainous of him, huh?
-Weird shared oral fixation? Ā There's a very unusual emphasis on food/mouth things with Darrell (his lowkey obsession with eating, spitting Boxman into the spitoon in his office, brushing his teeth), and LB's trademark was always having that lollipop in his mouth.
-Hugging soft cute animals, like Rippy and Fink
Tumblr media
-Darrell writes in concrete in You're Level 100, and LB does the same using his eye laser in Glory Days (in the POINT theme song)
Tumblr media
-Neither one is a big fan of new members of their respective teams right away. Ā LB refused to take junior members with him in both Glory Days and Let's Take a Moment, and doesn't seem to think much of them in either episode at all, aside from Silver Spark (and then, he still left her behind as one of his lookouts). Ā Darrell...just freaking HATES new siblings at first, having a problem with every single one he gets, at least the ones we've seen (we didn't get to see his and Mikayla's introduction). Ā He's also like this to siblings he considers inferior to him, to a point -- he and Shannon both got pretty jealous when Boxman started praising Jethro's "new moves."
---
Boxman stuff:
-Timing is correct, Darrell and the others were created right after LB disappeared according to Lad and Logic, since Boxman only drew the first three members in his original plans to attack POINT, and Gar was already building the plaza by the time Boxmore was opened. Ā This means the Boxbot quadruplets and KO were actually born around the same time, making them all 6-11 years old, roughly the same amount of time that's passed since the Sandwich Incident.
Tumblr media
-Boxy was obsessed with POINT at that time (and still is, since he's kept the coordinates for POINT HQ memorized), and possibly LB himself (given his later attraction to PV)
-Boxman may also have some POINT tech and connections of his own? Ā First off, access to a huge supply of glorbs, the easiest and closest source of which Foxtail and Carol have been protecting and heavily monitoring, and are normally very hard for non-heroes to get their hands on. Ā Second, those boxes he sends the robots to attack in might use the same wormhole tech as POINT Prep's bus, since it looks a little similar both in transit and emerging at its destination, plus its driver sounds exactly like Ernesto. Ā And speaking of Ernesto, that one time he straight-up drew a POINT drone as part of a family portraitā€¦
Tumblr media Tumblr media
---
POINT stuff:
-There were six members of POINT before the Sandwich Incident, and LB was one of the original three, and seemed to function as co-leader alongside Foxtail. Ā There are six Boxbots, and Darrell was one of the original four, and kinda leads them in battle alongside Shannon, especially once he becomes CEO.
-And coincidentally, the original six members of POINT also share colors and in some cases roles with the Boxbots -- Shannon and Foxtail are orange, Greyman and Ernesto are purple, El-Bow and Jethro are blue, Rippy and Raymond are green, Silver Spark is...difficult but her hair is pretty distinctive and works with Mikayla for yellow, and of course, Darrell and Laser are red. Ā The robots' colors and relative ages even match POINT'S senior/junior members, with Greyman, Laser, and Foxtail representing three of the older Boxbots, and then Rippy, Silver Spark, and El-Bow representing the two newer ones and Jethro, who only recently was able to show his true personality/potential.
-"Junior Members" = "Junior Deputies"
-"Code Vermillion."Ā  I made an entire post on this a while back, but to summarize, Vermillion is a bright, slightly orange-y red, and in most episodes is Darrell's exact color. Ā And Vermillion, as a red pigment, tends to darken over time into purple and black -- and SF and PV have connections to both glorbs (which Code Vermillion refers to), and to LB as well.
-Darrell has a bunch of weird similarities to Chip Damage as well, who is basically Laser's replacement at POINT, minus being the Charisma discipline rep: Ā Robots made right after LB got iced, green powers, special limited-edition costumes/POW cards, similar dark gray boots, the remote controls (Wisdom class blackboard for Darrell, Final Exams for Chip), possibly both made with actual brain tissue (The flashback to Chip's creation had a brain on one of Greyman's screens), etc. Ā Also, a dumb one, but...remember those Double-Dipped (KO and TKO?) Laser Chips (self-explanatory), that are "probably just a limited-edition" (Darrell).
---
Other assorted weird things:
-Darrellā€™s laser eye attachment shown in Stop Attacking the Plaza -- still being worked on in the episode (and it looks like it has been for a while, since it had been some time since Boxman was in that specific lab...), but used by a Big Darrell in the opening, where it produces a very similar (green) copy of LB's beam.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Darrell is right-handed, in a left-handed family -- he's shown eating with his right hand in Stop Attacking the Plaza while everyone else is using their left, looks like heā€™s wielding a lightsaber right-handed in Plaza Film Festival, and draws with his right hand in Villains Night In. Ā Left-handedness is often associated with villains in fiction, so he may not be a full one? Ā (Definitely not as sinister as the rest of them, hehe.) Ā Though, some instances of Darrell using his left hand too, and other bots using their right, so I dunno how strong this particular point is.
-Line to keep an eye on:Ā  "Just reboot yourself into a new body! Ā I do it all the time for funsies!" from Rad Likes Robots. Ā Related, Darrell reboots by exploding himself, which is how LB may have "died" and took on a new identity (if he's SF)
-Weird shit from Let's Not Be Skeletons: Ā Potato demonstrates a skeleton remote wearing a cowboy hat, and in addition to turning people into skeletons they remove powers, just like that red orb, and they also left Rad's and Enid's boots intact for some reason. Ā Darrell's also one of the biggest customers of the remotes, using his foes' weapons against them ("What do you say we snag more of them before they fall into the wrong hands? Ā We could even use them against our foes!")
-When we first saw TKO's power manifest in You're Level 100, it was while KO was trying to defeat a giant superpowered Darrell. Ā When we first saw TKO in physical form in Face Your Fears (as KO's "evil burp"), he was sent out to defeat a giant superpowered Laserblast head. Ā When we next saw TKO in, well, TKO (as his true self for the first time), he defeated another giant superpowered Darrell!
-Really dumb one, the letter right before C and D is B, so the acronyms LB and LCD may be a thing?
---
Turbo/SF/TKO connections, just in case those turn out to be related to Laser as well:
(Under the cut, since this is long enough already!)
-SF hints that negative emotions, particularly anger, fuel Turbo powers. Ā Darrell has quite a few jealousy and anger issues in general -- "Gets flustered by petty insults," HATES new younger siblings (or existing siblings showing him up and getting more of dadā€™s attention), etc -- and seems to be way more capable of mayhem than usual when running on these emotions. Ā They even gave him the power to defy his programming and (attempt to) kill Boxman!
-He can also have his power boosted by a ton in a very short amount of time, from level -4 up (down?) to level -100 and able to destroy the plaza in one shot, and for as brief as that level -100 thing was he STILL has yet to be topped as the most powerful villain in the entire series! Ā But, Boxman doesn't do it often -- even regular Big Darrells are implied to NOT be that powerful normally. Ā Perhaps he's holding Darrell back for a reason?
-A lot of emphasis on his brain, similar to TKO: the visible brain is obvious, he has the most noticeable hivemind, and he pilots Big Darrells from inside their braincases similar to how KO and TKO controlled Big KO (even the name's similar!) in TKO's House
Tumblr media
-Also, he doesn't have to glitch or change colors with his mood like Shannon does, he can make decisions and go against his programming all on his own -- perhaps he runs mostly on that meat brain? Ā Or maybe his brain is actually a mass of pink glorbs like Jethro got in I Am Jethro that unlocked his intelligence and potential? Ā
Tumblr media
-SF's speech to KO in TKO: "Everyone holds you back because they're afraid of your raw, natural ability. Ā They want you small and nice, blissfully unaware of your true potential." Ā Darrell in Lord Cowboy Darrell: Ā "Nobody's gonna hold me back." Ā Shannon to Darrell in Plaza Film Festival: Ā "Where do you think you got all that natural talent?"
-TKO ultimately came out of wanting recognition from his boss. Ā LCD ultimately came out of wanting recognition from his boss.
-That VERY noticeable purple glow in the "I'm the Daddy now!" scene in Lord Cowboy Darrell. Ā Like, to the point it seemed specially painted for emphasis, rather than the normal animation.Ā Ā
Tumblr media
-Also, Junior is pretty heavy evidence that Turbo powers do not necessarily = purple, as Junior's powers were all green (and so were Chip's Turbo-ish powerups!) Ā Darrell also has green powers (that even carried over to his human alternate in OK AU, despite Shannon and Raymond getting Enidā€™s and Radā€™s exact same powers and colors), and is sometimes surrounded by Turbo-esque greenish lightning when he's angry, the best example being at the beginning of Legends of Mr Gar after being trash talked (remember that he can't take petty insults; he was PISSED there!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-(If it looks like Iā€™m insinuating Darrellā€™s secretly got more power under the hood than even he realizes, I absolutely am.)
-Darrell still has his dark hooded cloak from the pilot, which looks a little like SF's.
-Darrell's the only one who wasn't invited to Junior's funeral, and doesn't give half a shit, instead using it as an opportunity to betray people and take on a new identity. Ā Possibly like LB faking his own death, therefore not attending his own funeral, and taking on a new identity as SF?
-Sneaking through the vents = sneaking through the pipes (SF, maybe how LB survived given that pipe in Let's Take a Moment)?
-Weird broken halo imagery shared between both Darrell and SF in TKO. Ā (Not my observation actually, pointed out by @david-yells-about-cartoons ) Ā Darrell's cloud halo thing in that episode also looks almost exactly like the clouds swirling above KO as he shoots a power fist for the first time at the end of Let's Be Friendsā€¦

Aku Headcanon: Powers/Origin
((so im gunna geek out a little bit here about my personal ideas of Akuā€™s powers/what exactly he is and how that ties into the series, ok? Ok
Prepare for the long haul on this one guys
(Small disclaimer: this isnt a scientific/psychological thing, and im pretty sure this ainā€™t even close to what Genndy wanted to be canon. These are my ideas, pertaining to the askblog and a certain fic universe, based on canon, of my Aku. Lets move on)
I. So what is Aku according to Abby?
Firstly, despite whatever canonically or fanon-wise in my own seriesā€™ Jack and Aku himself (and others) call him, Aku isnā€™t a demon/wizard/etc. We already know, pretty much canonically, that Aku is one of a kind. Which means beings like Demongo, his minions, others, arenā€™t even close to what Aku is.
Tumblr media
^A babby Aku leaves his nest to fend for himself in the harsh and unforgiving wild
Unless you wanna go on the theory that Akuā€™s minions are also him but lets not right now
I refuse to accept that Aku is ā€œpure evilā€ unless you want to get into moral debate and the theories on what constitutes ā€œevil,ā€ because perhaps in the perspective of that universe he is the Worst Evil Ever but comparatively to our own world and especially my own perspective he really...isnā€™t. Which isnā€™t to say heā€™s done downright vile and awful and evil things, because he really has! Heā€™s just not ā€œpure evil.ā€ I firmly believe that itā€™s just what weā€™re being fed, because all that we know about Aku is really from the perspective of other characters (ie, Jackā€™s father being the one that created Aku and immediately assuming that heā€™s something to be destroyed). And Aku seems to run with this because, realistically, itā€™s all heā€™s ever known/tried.
(I have additional input on Akuā€™s birth and his ā€œstartingā€ personality, but I will save that for another time)
(ā€œBut the gods saidā€”ā€ you start.
ā€œFUCK the gods,ā€ I spit back, punching Odin in his remaining eye, ā€œTheyre fuckin useless as shit anywayā€)
HOWEVER, I think Aku is something more like a conscious controlling whatā€™s essentially pure magic from that universe in physical form, with magic being like a manipulatable energy source according to that universeā€™s rules. I think that, much like in the Avatar (the animated series not the atrocious live action one) series, the way this magic/energy can be used varies from person to person, from being to being. And a being like Aku, whoā€™s made up of the stuff, is going to inherently be more powerful and more versatile than anyone else that just uses magic but wasnā€™t born from it. AND his magic is more wild and free and flexible than the contained/inherited forms of it that other mortals have.
And from there it only gets more fun.
Tumblr media
You see, we never really hear/see Aku mention his time spent as the Black Goop, which likely infers he either couldnā€™t form into something that could speak/move around or he just doesnā€™t remember in the way a human might. Either way means he had no control over himself. Which only feeds my theory that Akuā€™s just a brain constantly controlling what are really just mindless drones with power to do his bidding much like his/the entityā€™s former shape.
I also theorize that, if he didnā€™t have the same kind of consciousness, the Black Goop was absorbing anyone/thing that came into contact because that was the only thing the mindless, physical manifest of magic knew to do. It canā€™t think to express itself! It canā€™t think to grow legs and walk around!
But on the other hand, if he was...some kind of mind in there, but couldnā€™t form into a shape, perhaps he was latching onto living things, trying to learn about them, trying to find some form of escape. I havenā€™t worked out which he was in the goop form as of yet, but either works really.
I do think thatā€™s why the gods were trying to destroy the entity, because they knew that if it started wandering around the universe in a semi-tangible form, especially with the power it originally had, wild and free, then it would cause effortless and wide-spread chaos.
And somehow Jackā€™s fatherā€™s fire gave him/the magic the power to form a brain, buuuut it has its limitations from Aku.
Letā€™s take a closer look.
II. Akuā€™s Essence vs Aku Infection
In episodes like the Ultrabots, the final episode, and even in the comics, we see that when Aku has his essence control/power others, he retains some level of control over the individual to do his bidding. They also sometimes gain his powers, but I think thatā€™s also under his control.
Tumblr media
So whatā€™s the difference between this and the Aku Infection?
I donā€™t think Aku knew about Jack getting infected. And instead, Jack was the one that made himself into Aku.
This really boils down to semantics and me wanting to go completely off my rocker here, so bear with me.
Tumblr media
^Accurate depiction of abby now
First, though it is typical of Aku, we never see him attempt this again. If you want to include the IDW comics, he doesnā€™t even consider it in issue 10. Instead, he uses his time in Jackā€™s mind to eat his memories.
Tumblr media
HOWEVER within the episode itself, we see an interesting progression of things:
Jack steals jewels from the explorers without realizing it
Argues with himself (!!) about rescuing a stranded sightseer and the reward if he does so (which he demands for money) yet doesnā€™t seem to notice the fact heā€™s doing so
Begins to feel irritated and twitchy as well as itchy (likely as his skin changes)
STILL SOMEHOW FAILS TO NOTICE HIS BODY CHANGING
Begins to speak/look more like Aku as time goes on
(Also, a minor, tiny detail but: no beard. Hmmmmm)
NOW letā€™s consider something here: normally Aku controls his essence to do as he wishes. In fact, he typically immediately controls his subjects. But Aku wasnā€™t in good shape when we see him first in this episode, nor is his state brought up again.
What (or shall I say who) is typically on the forefront of Jackā€™s mind, and he associates with darkness?
Thaaatā€™s right! Aku!
Tumblr media
^This is what happens when you jack off too often kids
So I think, at this point, however subconsciously, Akuā€™s essence/that magic latched onto what Jack associated with that start of darkness and became what he thought it would be.
It became his idea of Aku. And it simply ran with it, because that is the first and most powerful thing Jack thought of. After all, Jack has no experience in controlling magic, and especially not one as powerful as Akuā€™s. And that magic, now detached from the main consciousness, is basically just trying to find itā€™s way out in him, so it was mindlessly searching for the easiest way to be ā€œexpressed.ā€
By examining Jack-Akuā€™s behavior and wording more closely, Iā€™d like to point out something. Right after Jack FINALLY realizes whatā€™s happening, we have this exchange:
Jack: ā€œThis cannot be happening!ā€
ā€œAku:ā€ ā€œOh yes it can!ā€
Jack: ā€œMustā€¦keepā€¦control!ā€
ā€œAku:ā€ ā€œYeah! Gotta get a grip.ā€
Jack: ā€œNeed help. The monksā€”!ā€
ā€œAku:ā€ ā€œI got to find those accursed monks!ā€
Now, does this actually sound like something Aku would say, or like someone whoā€™s imitating Aku would say?
Hm. Letā€™s look at another example.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Itā€™s close, Iā€™ll give Jack-Aku that! But itā€™s a littleā€¦too close. Again, like someoneā€™s doing an impression of Aku.
It is close to things Aku has said before, but it still feels just off to me.
Jack-Aku certainly fights a little differently, but thereā€™s still more touches of Jack than Aku in there. Sure his swings are more brutal, but then thereā€™s stuff like this:
Tumblr media
^SUPERHERO LANDING
That doesnā€™t look like an Aku pose to me. Thatā€™s a Jack one.
Now I do realize, as I said, most of this is just semantics and most of it could be explained away with ā€œAku was just fucking with Jack.ā€ But I dunno, that just seems like itā€™s not whatā€™s really going on, especially since we donā€™t see the original Aku trying to control Jack, much like how we got a hint of that in the Ultrabots and even in Mad Jack.
Interestingly, season 5 seems to support this!
You see, I think the priestess wanted to bear Akuā€™s children, so thatā€™s what his magic did for her. There was probably something in her head that thought seven was a good number, so thatā€™s what happened for her. As for why the essence didnā€™t overwhelm Ashi and her sisters before, I suspect that it became combined with their DNA in order to sustain them (as the priestess wished; at least until they ā€œlivedā€ until she was done with them) and became dormant until Aku ā€œreactivatedā€ it.
Tumblr media
And then, Ashi is initially overwhelmed by Akuā€™s essence, but once she takes it for her ownā€”
Tumblr media
^THATS MY GIRL
It becomes her own. Sheā€™s owning Akuā€™s powers, Akuā€™s essence, Akuā€™s magic for her own use. It becomes what she wants it to be.
Jack never did that because he never took it. He allowed himself to be overwhelmed by it, letting it do itā€™s own thing inside him, and it nearly transformed him into his own Grand Theft Me nightmare.
III. Akuā€™s Powers (and the actual powers of the sword)
Ok ok, so what does this all have to do with Akuā€™s powers? Well, like I mentioned earlier, Aku is made up of pure energy that can be made into (almost) anything he wants to do with it.
ā€œSo why doesnā€™t he just do _ to kill Jack?!?!?!ā€
Thatā€™s actually quite simple: Because Aku has no idea what he is either.
Tumblr media
^Aku voice: AWHUA
He has literally no frame of reference, no concept or comparison. All heā€™s ever really gotten is from others, who call him ā€œevil,ā€ ā€œdemon,ā€ ā€œwizard,ā€ etc. He knows heā€™s more powerful than any being in the mortal world, but he doesnā€™t know how or why. He simply is.
(This feeds back into that linked post from the beginning about Aku being something of a narcissist, because he makes himself into whatever others think of him in order to be ā€œaccepted.ā€ But I have more words on that idea at a later point when I can get all these thoughts about his powers out of the way, though I firmly emphasize that Iā€™m not even close to a major in psychology so Iā€™m not fit to diagnose him with anything, really. This is all just for funsies)
Itā€™s how I explain his ability to pop random powers out without notice or mention of them again, ie creating a dark clone of Jack, encasing a living man in stone while also making him immortal?, telepathically manipulating objects from afar, RAISING THE FUCKING DEAD, etc etc. He knows he has tremendous powers, but does he explore their limits? Find out what all he can do? No! And why would he, if heā€™s already immortal and immune to everything? He only seeks out to use these powers like that when it conveniences him.
And yea, that would be his own fault. But itā€™s his life, and heā€™ll do as he pleases.
Now, letā€™s get to the sword.
Tumblr media
Itā€™s heavily implied (if not outright stated) that the sword is made from Jackā€™s fatherā€™s spirit/soul. The gods insist that only the strength of such a thing, combined with the virtue of ā€œhuman righteousnessā€ can destroy Aku. This is where they say heā€™s a ā€œforce of ultimate evilā€ and all that, but I already donā€™t like that the gods are entrusting this ā€œduty,ā€ which they started but didnā€™t finish, onto a mortal. Mighty suspicious.
So how exactly does the sword work if Aku isnā€™t made of evil, but instead pure magic? Easy. The sword destroys that magic from Akuā€™s physical form. Itā€™s literally cutting away his control and his power, in a harsher and far worse way than if Aku were to be using his energy on his own. And the gods basically made a soul contract with Jackā€™s father to give it that power without there being serious repercussions on the wielder of the weapon. Because technically destroying a magic/energy like that should totally backfire and act more like splitting an atom than a cool firey-burning effect.

So Aku and his powers are in a constant state of decay-recovery, because heā€™s using his own body to do all these powers and abilities, but the sword speeds up the decay process faster than Aku can recover. And yes, Aku using massive amounts of magic quickly with little or no recovery period would do a similar thing, but the sword will always take longer and threaten to do more permanent damage for that than Aku using his magic himself, because it destroys instead of frees. And since magic is energy, Aku recovers through time and reabsorption of magic fromā€¦well, anything. Typically just the energy of the universe, I suppose.
So why couldnā€™t/didnā€™t Jackā€™s father destroy Aku the first time?
Because he didnā€™t make a final strike. Instead he allowed even the smallest sliver of Aku to persist. And if you do that, then you give Aku ability to reform.
(ā€œBut what about in season five whenā€”ā€œ you try again.
ā€œIt was bullshit and you know it,ā€ I say as I firmly curb-stomp that ā€œfinal fightā€ scene.)
So why did Aku get turned into a tree and was imprisoned?
ā€¦.Yeah I havenā€™t worked that one out yet either, Iā€™ll give you that. Iā€™m thinking it may have something to do with cutting away so much of Aku that his mind is locked away and stripped of its power over his body, but I havenā€™t worked out all the fine points yet.
Aku makes his choices to do evil things, to follow his own will (whatever his will may be) but heā€™s still limited by his own mind and what he believes heā€™s capable of, due to mainly just being too lazy/unwilling to try anything else. Yes, of course like I said outside forces only contributed to this, effectively helping him make his own box to put himself in, but it only explains why heā€™s like that. It doesnā€™t excuse him, and ultimately his choices were still his own.
PHEW well I think thatā€™s about all for now! Hope I made sense and you enjoyed reading! Iā€™ve been stewing on this one for a long, long while, but only recently got half a mind to coherently jot it all down and explain it, so thereā€™s probably a few holes here and there, forgive me... :,D
Thanks necessary for:
