I made a rec list for Latin American books that have queer themes
*DISCLAIMER: "Queer" is not a theme per se. Sometimes it's about identity, sexuality, love, horror, violence, etc. All happening around queer characters.
Most of these deal with pretty heavy themes: prostitution, rape, violence, aids, death. Some representations can be considered "problematic" if you're boring. There are different ways to approach queerness.
Feel free to yell at me about these books/ask where to read them/make recommendations/etc. I definetly have favourites. Also some have movie adaptations.
Descriptions and warnings under the cut
La condesa sangrienta (The bloody countess):
The story of countess Erzebeth Báthory, a medieval hungarian countess know for committing more than 650 murders and inspiring the figure of the vampire. There´s no explicit queer relationships here but there´s absolutely some homoerotism in the narrations of torture. Pizarnik was a lesbian also. TW: disturbing, torture, blood, murder, you should not read this in one go.
El lugar sin límites (Hell has no limits):
The story about la Manuela, a homosexual transvestite that owns half a brothel in a small town. Her daughter owns the other half. The novel shows crudely the misery of forgotten towns and the day to day life of prostitution. There's also a movie. TW: prostitution, murder, homo/transphobia.
El mundo alucinante (A Hallucinations):
A fantasy and free version parody of the Memoires of Fray Servando Teresa de Mier. Known for the uses of magical realism and innovative prose.
Cobra:
Two stories meet. The first is of Cobra, a transvestite, and her transformation. The second of her initiation in a band of black jackers. Erotism and death.
Evita vive (Evita lives):
A controversial book around Eva Perón (after her death) who lives among prostitutes and homosexuals, having orgies and living a life of debauchery.
El beso de la mujer araña (The kiss of the spider woman):
The meeting of two prisoners living in the same cell. One, Valentín, is a political prisoner and the other, Molina, is a sexual deviant. During their weeks there, Molina narrates movies to Valentín and their relationship develops. There's also a movie.
Stella Manhattan:
During Brasil's military dictatorship, the apolitical Eduardo, a.k.a. Stella Manhattan, is expelled form his country for his shameful homosexuality. He returns to the surface as a brazilian counsil in New York and is immediately accosted by a military called Colonel Vianna, a sadomasichist known as the "Black Widow", and by the guerrillas seeking his befall.
Antes que anochezca (Before night falls):
Th 7th of december of 1990 the Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas, in a terminal phase of AIDS, would commit suicide, leaving behing this moving and political testimony, which he finished mere days before taking his own life.
Salón de belleza (Beauty salon):
In a large, unnamed city, a strange, highly infectious disease begins to spread, afflicting its victims with an excruciating descent toward death, particularly unsparing in its assault of those on society's margins. Spurned by their loved ones and denied treatment by hospitals, the sick are left to die on the streets until a beauty salon owner, whose previous caretaking experience extended only to the exotic fish tanks scattered among his workstations, opens his doors as a refuge. In the ramshackle Morgue, victim to persecution and violence, he accompanies his male guests as they suffer through the lifeless anticipation of certain death, eventually leaving the wistful narrator in complete, ill-fated isolation.
Bajar es lo peor (Going down is the worst):
With gothic resonances, Enríquez shows crudely the Buenos Aires of the 90's. The confinement and the paranoia of cocaine, sex as a means to escape or survive, political unbelief, mix with a romantic love that never reaches satisfaction. There's also a movie. TW: drugs, prostitution, rape, suicide.
Loco afán (Mad eagerness):
These "chronicles of aids" narrate stories of homosexuality in Latin America, focused on drag, transvestites and AIDS.
Sirena Selena vestida de pena:
Discovered by Martha Divine in the backstreets of San Juan, picking over garbage, drugged out of his mind and singing boleros that transfix the listener, a fifteen year old hustler is transformed into Sirena Selena, a diva whose uncanny beauty and irrisistable voice will be their ticket to fame and fortune. Auditioning for one of the luxury hotels in the Dominican Republic, Selena casts her spell over Hugo Graubel, one of the hotel's rich investors. Graubel is a powerful man in the Republic, married with children. Selena, determined to escape the poverty and abuse s/he suffered as a child, engages Graubel in a long seduction in this mordant, intensely lyrical tragi-comedy - part masque, part cabaret - about identity (class, race, gender) and "the hunger and desire to be other things."
Tengo miedo torero (My tender matador):
It is the spring of 1986, and Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet is losing his grip on power. In one of Santiago’s many poor neighborhoods, a man known as the Queen of the Corner embroiders linens for the wealthy. A hopeless and lonely romantic, he listens to boleros to drown out the gunshots. Then he meets Carlos, a young, handsome man who befriends the aging homosexual and uses his house to store mysterious boxes and hold clandestine meetings. And as the relationship between these two very different men blossoms, they find themselves caught in a revolution that could doom them both. There's also a movie.
Adiós mariquita linda (Goodbye pretty pansy):
Chronicles of ire, delation, passion, resentment and loves. Stories of different cities and travels.
Sexografías (Sexographies):
In fierce and sumptuous first-person accounts, renowned Peruvian journalist Gabriela Wiener records infiltrating the most dangerous Peruvian prison, participating in sexual exchanges in swingers clubs, traveling the dark paths of the Bois de Boulogne in Paris in the company of transvestites and prostitutes, undergoing a complicated process of egg donation, and participating in a ritual of ayahuasca ingestion in the Amazon jungle--all while taking us on inward journeys that explore immigration, maternity, fear of death, ugliness, and threesomes. Fortunately, our eagle-eyed voyeur emerges from her narrative forays unscathed and ready to take on the kinks, obsessions, and messiness of our lives. Sexographies is an eye-opening, kamikaze journey across the contours of the human body and mind.
Los topos (The moles):
The son of missing persons of the Dictatorship casually meets a half-brother who poses as a transvestite to investigate ex repressors and cops.
La virgen cabeza (Slum virgin):
When the Virgin Mary appears to Cleopatra, she renounces sex work and takes charge of the shantytown she lives in, transforming it into a tiny utopia. Ambitious journalist Quity knows she’s found the story of the year when she hears about it, but her life is changed forever once she finds herself irrevocably seduced by the captivating subject of her article.
Falsa liebre (False hare):
The darkness at the port engulfs everything. Pachi and Vinicio go deeper into the beach, approaching an improvised party. They are looking for something to numb their bodies, something to finally erase themselves. Summer has been long, and that day was much worse. Not far from there, Zahir fantasizes about his next travel to the capital city or the northern part of Mexico, away from the aunt who keeps asking him for money, controls him through physical violence, and has driven his little brother, Andrik, to run away from the family home and end up in another: a man’s house, who caresses Andrik and then strikes him with the same hand. Now Zahir must not only convince Andrik to start a new life, but make sure they find a way out of that seemingly endless beach. TW: rape, prostitution, violence.
Ladrilleros (Brickmakers):
Oscar Tamai and Elvio Miranda, the patriarchs of two families of brickmakers, have for years nursed a mutual hatred, but their teenage sons, Pájaro and Ángelito, somehow fell in love. Brickmakers begins as Pájaro and Marciano, Ángelito’s older brother, lie dying in the mud at the base of a Ferris wheel. Inhabiting a dreamlike state between life and death, they recall the events that forced them to pay the price of their fathers’ petty feud. The Tamai and Miranda families are caught, like the Capulets and the Montagues, in an almost mythic conflict, one that emerges from stubborn pride and intractable machismo. Like her heralded debut, The Wind That Lays Waste, Selva Almada’s fierce and tender second novel is an unforgettable portrayal of characters who initially seem to stand in opposition, but are ultimately revealed to be bound by their similarities. TW: violence.
Cuerpo a tierra (Body to the ground):
We aren't always owners of our own decisions, sometimes we´re pulled by an irrecognizable impulse and, sometimes, the only truth is that of the body. Betrayal and deception, love and heartbreak, love and search are the protagonists of these stories.
Temporada de huracanes (Hurricane season):
The Witch is dead. And the discovery of her corpse has the whole village investigating the murder. As the novel unfolds in a dazzling linguistic torrent, with each unreliable narrator lingering on new details, new acts of depravity or brutality, Melchor extracts some tiny shred of humanity from these characters—inners whom most people would write off as irredeemable—forming a lasting portrait of a damned Mexican village. There will be a movie by the end of the year. TW: rape, paedophilia, prostitution.
Pelea de gallos (Cockfight):
Ampuero sheds light on the hidden aspects of the home: the grotesque realities of family, coming of age, religion, and class struggle. A family’s maids witness a horrible cycle of abuse, a girl is auctioned off by a gang of criminals, and two sisters find themselves at the mercy of their spiteful brother. With violence masquerading as love, characters spend their lives trapped reenacting their past traumas. Heralding a brutal and singular new voice, Cockfight explores the power of the home to both create and destroy those within it. TW: rape, incest, violence.
Las aventuras de la China Iron (The adventures of China Iron):
1872. The pampas of Argentina. China is a young woman eking out an existence in a remote gaucho encampment. After her no-good husband is conscripted into the army, China bolts for freedom, setting off on a wagon journey through the pampas in the company of her new-found friend Liz, a settler from Scotland. While Liz provides China with a sentimental education and schools her in the nefarious ways of the British Empire, their eyes are opened to the wonders of Argentina’s richly diverse flora and fauna, cultures and languages, as well as to the ruthless violence involved in nation-building.
Mandíbula (Jawbone):
Fernanda and Annelise are so close they are practically sisters: a double image, inseparable. So how does Fernanda end up bound on the floor of a deserted cabin, held hostage by one of her teachers and estranged from Annelise? When Fernanda, Annelise, and their friends from the Delta Bilingual Academy convene after school, Annelise leads them in thrilling but increasingly dangerous rituals to a rhinestoned, Dior-scented, drag-queen god of her own invention. Even more perilous is the secret Annelise and Fernanda share, rooted in a dare in which violence meets love. Meanwhile, their literature teacher Miss Clara, who is obsessed with imitating her dead mother, struggles to preserve her deteriorating sanity. Each day she edges nearer to a total break with reality. TW: violence, cannibalism.
Las malas (Bad girls):
A trans woman's coming-of-age tale about finding a community among fellow outcasts. Born in the small Argentine town of Mina Clavero, Camila is designated male but begins to identify from an early age as a girl. She is well aware that she's different from other children and reacts to her oppressive, poverty-stricken home life, with a cowed mother and abusive, alcoholic father, by acting out-with swift consequences. Deeply intelligent, she eventually leaves for the city to attend university, slipping into prostitution to make ends meet. And in Sarmiento Park, in the heart of Córdoba, she discovers the strange, wonderful world of the trans sex workers who dwell there. Taken under the wing of Auntie Encarna, the 178-year-old eternal whose house shelters this unconventional extended family, Camila becomes a part of their stories-of a Headless Man who fled his country's wars, a mute young woman who transforms into a bird, an abandoned baby boy who brings a twinkle to your eye. TW: rape, prostitution, transphobia, murder, child death.
Nuestra parte de noche (Our share of the night):
A young father and son set out on a road trip, devastated by the death of the wife and mother they both loved. United in grief, the pair travel to her ancestral home, where they must confront the terrifying legacy she has bequeathed: a family called the Order that commits unspeakable acts in search of immortality. For Gaspar, the son, this maniacal cult is his destiny. As the Order tries to pull him into their evil, he and his father take flight, attempting to outrun a powerful clan that will do anything to ensure its own survival. But how far will Gaspar’s father go to protect his child? And can anyone escape their fate? Moving back and forth in time, from London in the swinging 1960s to the brutal years of Argentina’s military dictatorship and its turbulent aftermath.
Tesis sobre una domesticación (Thesis about a domestication):
A single transvestite is enough to undermine the foundations of a house, to untie the knots of compromise, to break a promise, to give up a life. The familiy clings to brief moments of happiness without noticing it´s been defeated since the start.
La hija única (Still born):
Alina and Laura are independent and career-driven women in their mid-thirties, neither of whom have built their future around the prospect of a family. Laura is so determined not to become a mother that she has taken the drastic decision to have her tubes tied. But when she announces this to her friend, she learns that Alina has made the opposite decision and is preparing to have a child of her own. Alina's pregnancy shakes the women's lives, first creating distance and then a remarkable closeness between them. When Alina's daughter survives childbirth – after a diagnosis that predicted the opposite – and Laura becomes attached to her neighbor's son, both women are forced to reckon with the complexity of their emotions, their needs, and the needs of the people who are dependent upon them. TW: child disease, family violence.
Huaco retrato (Undiscovered):
In an ethnographic museum in Paris, Gabriela Wiener is confronted with her unusual inheritance. She is visiting an exhibition of pre-Columbian artefacts, the spoils of European colonial plunder. As she peers through the glass, she sees sculptures of Indigenous faces that resemble her own - but the man responsible for pillaging them was her own great-great-grandfather, Austrian colonial explorer Charles Wiener. In the wake of her father's death, Gabriela begins delving into all she has inherited from her paternal line. From the brutal trail of racism and theft that Charles left behind to revelations of her father's infidelity, she traces a legacy of abandonment, jealousy and colonial violence, in turn reframing her own struggles with desire, love and race. Seeking relief from these personal and historical wounds, Gabriela turns to the body and desire as sources of both constraint and potential freedom.
Sacrificios humanos (Human sacrifices):
An undocumented woman answers a job posting only to find herself held hostage, a group of outcasts obsess over popular boys drowned while surfing, and two girls suspect sinister behavior from the missionaries lodging in their home. Simultaneously terrifying and exquisite, Human Sacrifices is "tropical gothic" at its finest. Ampuero considers the decay and oppression beneath the surface of our humid and hostile world, where those on the margins must pay the price for the comfort and safety of the elite. These twelve stories contemplate the nature of exploitation and abuse, illuminating the realities of those society consumes and leaves behind.
Soy una tonta por quererte (I'm a fool to want you):
In the 1990s, a woman makes a living as a rental girlfriend for gay men. In a Harlem den, a travesti gets to know none other than Billie Holiday. A group of rugby players haggle over the price of a night of sex, and in return they get what they deserve. Nuns, grandmothers, children, and dogs are never what they seem. These 9 stories are inhabited by extravagant and profoundly human characters who face an ominous reality in ways as strange as themselves.
Las indignas (The unworthy):
A searing, dystopian tale about climate crisis, ideological extremism, and the tidal pull of our most violent, exploitative instincts. TW: death, animal death, rape, cults.

Hi so if you feel like it. Do you have any starter horror recommendations for someone who wants to watch more horror but is a wuss about it. For context I have an extra hard time with gore/body horror. Guy with knife much scarier than ghosts/demons/etc. Anything more thesis-horror is helpful because thinking about the thesis distracts me from the Scared. Weird/insane/unhinged women are borderline mandatory.
Again just if you feel like it but if you do thanks a bunch in advance!!!
hmmmmm okay. let me look at my letterboxd. gonna cut this one for lenght.
oddity - from my memory pretty light on blood guts etc. there's really only one scene where you see like. blood splatter. iirc. i thought it was really beautifully shot. ghosts AND guys with knives.
red rooms - there's literally one visible shot of "yuck" (bones) in the first 15? minutes but it revolves around a trial for murder so there are yknow. people detailing gruesome acts out loud but theres literally only the one shot in the whole thing. awesome women in this one. guys with knives.
creep + creep 2 - as far as a i remember more of a suspense thing than blood and guts. and also really good! crazy woman in 2. guy with knives.
hell house llc - i watched this one today and really liked it for what it is. there's one scene towards the end with blood but that's really it the rest of it is suspense. ghosts.
crimson peak - awesome. women in it. ghosts. i dont remember there being a ton of blood? people die in it but i dont think any of it is like. on screen close up on wounds. ghosts.
it follows - ghosts. i do remember going yeek! at one of the ghost forms. the soundtrack is great.
stoker is showing up when i sort by horror which i dont think is true. but it does rule and it does have nicole kidman in it and is in comparison to horror as a genre light on gore. women
whatever happened to baby jane another one that letterbox is calling horror that i dont necessarily agree with. but definitely OK as far as yuck goes. no yuck #noyuck. women
lake mungo - kind of a normie pick as far as tumblr rec goes. shows up on a lot of ppl's fav lists. shows up on a lot of lists for women in horror. ghosts. no blood guts even a little bit just ghosts that look creepy
poltergeist - as far as i remember really really tame. ghosts. obvs.
psycho + psycho 2. well its psycho innit. so.
signs - aliens in there.
the craft - witches. women. i dont remember it being a super gross one?
night of the living dead - it's literally night of the living dead
i grew up watching the old universal horror movies. wolfman invisible man mummy frankenstein dracula creature from the black lagoon etc. which i do think are worth watching.
looking at this list realizing i watch a lot of stuff that's very what if there was a fucked up guy. anyway. those i think are pretty safe bets in terms of. light on blood/body horror. if you feel braver. well.
bodies bodies bodies - not a scary movie just a silly one where people are dying. there is blood in it though. so. women
talk to me - ghosts. i liked it a lot. there is like. head slamming into a table repeatedly so hard someone goes into a coma though. woman
malignant - sillayyyyyyy. but quite bloody. kind of ghosts themed
12 hour shift - dont remember how much blood is in this one but it centers on organ trafficking so probably some. i remember liking it a lot tho. no ghosts. woman
us - scared the shit out of me the first time i watched it. no ghosts but . not classical guy with knife either. but quite good. woman
hereditary - theres blood in this one. sometimes things that are lauded are good. sorry.
raw - blood. but really good. and #women
cabin in the woods - blood in there but it is i think probably my favorite referential horror comedy.
jennifer's body - yeah you know it. dont need to say more
the descent - really fucking good really fucking scary people's bodies get fucked up. women movie of all time
28 days later - i liked it. i dont remember much about it but i liked it when i watched it. zombies
eight legged freaks - sillayyyyy. giant spiders
ginger snaps - classic for a reason. women. e blood
candyman - the original reallyyyyy good. havent seen the new one but the original incredibly good.
reanimator + bride of reanimator - silly one. with some. um. one blood. two. body horror. three. content warnings.
frankenhooker - nother silly one. with moderate very silly gore.
tremors - creature movie. silly. fun.
lair of the white worm - creature movie. awesome
killer klowns from outer space - quiteeeee silly dont remember where it falls on gore even a little bit.
hellraiser - i rmemeber it being good. but i mean. species of demons called pinhead. due to having pins, in their heads,
nightmare on elm street 1/2/3. one you kind of have to watch. 2 is bonkers homophobic it's awesome. 3 is just fun. demons. i guess.
the hitcher - guy with knives. blood. pretty cool though.
the thing - body horror as fuck. but really good. creatures
american werewolf in london - gore + body horror but quite good.
friday the 13th. i liked it! kind of guy with knives by definition tho
phantom of the paradise - another silly one. dont remember the blood content but its quiteeee silly and fun i liked it a lot
long legs - i liked it, but there's deffo blood in it, and i also think it should probably be watched in a theatrical setting to enjoy it.
my watchlist, which i havent watched, and cant vouch for:
may (women)
titane (women)
hatching (women)

Do you like triumph of evil in your kdramas? A small rec list for the pessimist in you
If, like me, you got into kdramas way back when or like older kdramas, tragic endings are not a particular surprise - endings where one or both members of the OTP die were pretty common and even unsettling endings that remind you of the world being rather unjust (Bad Guys) also happen.
But I am talking about something more than that - an ending that really socks it to you, by making you feel the villains won, it was all in vain. I confess when well-done, I love the bleakness of that type of ending. So here are my five favorites for this sort of thing:
Hong Gil Dong (2008)
This story of a rebel fighting to overthrow the mad tyrant and bring justice to the people has the most thoroughly bad ending on the list. Who dies? EVERYONE EXCEPT THE BAD GUYS! I don't mean the OTP, I don't mean your fave secondaries, I mean everyone. The sheer realistic bleakness of the ending is breath-taking. Gil Dong, his OTP Yi Nok and the rest of the rebels are murdered by the forces of the king they put on the throne. The last shot of the story proper is them standing watching a shower of arrows coming towards them, staring at their death. The only survivors are the King and the secondary girl and both are monsters. The king is the man they put on the throne with so much effort but who cannot allow them to live because what they want is not to replace a bad absolute ruler with a different one (that he may have coped with) but to replace the system itself - to hold the king accountable, and he cannot have that. In the end, a mad tyrant has been replaced with a sane tyrant and the class system and the injustices of that society that wrecked Hil Dong, Yi Nok and the rest continue unabated. And secondary girl betrays Gil Dong because - for all her sort of crush - she never truly saw him as human, just a fancy peasant toy that should be thrown away and punished for not behaving as he ought. In the end, the good guys, the heroes, who fought so hard are killed and it's not easy acceptance for them either (there is a scene where Gil Dong, knowing they are all dead once spring comes, admits to Yi Nok how terrified of death he is that has haunted me for a decade plus) and the monsters continue on happily. Sure, the people recite stories and new fighters will rise in their place but it's very much of a "no happy ending in our lifetime" message.
At the time this drama came out, the Hong Sisters were known for their romcoms and this started out pretty goofy - watching it live as it got darker and darker was a hell of a trip and the ending made the fandom insane. But the more I thought about it, the more I loved it, the more fitting it seemed. I love all the other takes on rebels against the crown a la various other HGD and Iljimae adaptations but this one has, to me, by far the most fitting ending.
IRIS (2009)
Talk about bleak. This drama starts as your standard if high quality actioner about competent glam agents of a secret CIA type agency. And then it all goes to hell in a handbasket for our mains as it turns out a secret evil organization is the one that's pulling the strings, and our protagonist Kim Hyun Jun (played by Lee Byung Hun in my favorite of all of his performances) is sacrificed for complicated reasons that are only gradually revealed and begins his descent into hell. He starts the story as a competent, cocky sweetheart and transforms into a PTSDing shaking hands wreck. And you watch him fight so hard - fight through all the torments inflicted, fight to protect his loved ones and to keep his sanity, and fight to take the evil org down. You watch him slowly rebuild himself, and to slowly find happiness again with the woman he's loved all this time, Choi Seung Hee (played by Kim Tae Hee in my fave of her performances, who has unknowing ties to the org) and to fight over the org and inflict damage on it.
And then we get that ending, as he's finally found some peace and safety, and he's driving to propose to Seung Hee and as he sees her, he's shot in the head, point blank and he lies there, dying, seeing her but not able to reach her, tears falling out of his eyes as she waits oblivious for a man who will never come and it's made so clear that the org goes on, that nothing has been defeated and that it has all been for nothing - he's been killed as a punishment to him but also as a message to Seung Hee that nobody ever escapes - for her to find his body and realize it was all for naught. And it is also made clear that there was NOTHING he could have ever done to avoid this fate except if his parents made different choices before he was born (!!!) Talk about bleak. I sobbed for hours.
Ja Myung Go (2009)
I've just posted about this one so I am not gonna re-do the comments but yeah, it ends with the OTP death, the kingdom destroyed and the one winner is King Daemushin, the bad guy. The God of Battles wins again. Sure he lost a son but he's got other sons. Worth it, would think the old monster.
My Country: the New Age (2019)
The rest of the dramas on this list are older. This one is not. Our two main protagonists die in the end but that is not what makes it so bleak - what makes it so bleak is that nothing of what they wanted came to pass. In a way, it's a bit of a Hong Gil Dong redux situation - there is a new ruler on the throne but he's not any better than the old ones and he's cleaning up the people who put him on the throne. Hwi especially fought so hard for a place and then just to have some peace and he gets neither, the man he fought so hard to put on the throne being his murderer.
What Happened in Bali (2004)
Ooof, this drama! We have four main characters and at the end, two of them are dead, shot by the third one who turns the gun on himself. The only survivor is the ice cold secondary girl who would probably not pause sipping her morning coffee when hearing the news.
This is a story of people damaged and ruined by a bunch of monsters who suppress any hope and anything good and cause more and more damage - we watch the three mains claw at others and at themselves hoping for happiness and connection and love and it all gets dismantled and set on fire repeatedly and in the worst way. It's perhaps the starkest with Jo In Sung's Jung Jae Min - who you watch taken apart and driven to extremity slowly and gradually over the course of the drama. And his monstrous family ends up triumphant at the end - even in death and murder he was not monstrous enough for them to fit in - and now they will continue their lives.
PS The scene where he shoots Ha Ji Won's character right as she's just finishes telling So Ji Sub she loves JIS and wants to go back to him and she tells him "I love you" for the first time ever as she lies dying - that lives in my head rent free forever.

Hi ! Just saw your tags in the women in horror movies post, would you mind, when you have time, giving me your recommendation in horror movies ? It's a genre i'm learning to appreciate and i'll be curious to know what your favorite are ! Hope you're having a good day !
Oh nooooooo, you’ve activated one of my trap cards.
So the fun thing about horror is that it’s truly a diverse genre with many different places to start. I hardly feel qualified to make a rec list, because I feel like there’s still so much I haven’t seen??? So the below is by no means comprehensive, but hopefully it helps get you started! Also please feel free to talk to me about horror anytime, haha, I would love to know what you think if you get around to watching any of these.
The Classics: -The Blair Witch Project. The inception of found footage horror. -Halloween. The first slasher I ever watched. John Carpenter made this on a shoestring budget and the behind-the-scenes story is so fun. Plus, Jamie Lee Curtis’s breakout role. -Candyman (1992). Tony Todd is so sexy in this, but also it’s a great horror story about the power of myth, and an exploration of racial dynamics in Chicago. -Poltergeist. Has its issues but ultimately a very fun movie about a family working together to try and rescue their daughter from evil spirits. There’s a very famous scene with a clown doll. You’ll know it when you see it.
Women and horror: -The Perfection. Queer and deeply messy. An exploration of how art can still be used as a system for abuse. Tw: implied sexual assault, self-harm. -Ginger Snaps. Explores the struggles of two teenage sisters via werewolf metaphor. Love this one. -The Witch. Ominous and atmospheric. The horrors of being a girl raised in a religious fundamentalist family. -Jennifer’s Body. A cult classic that’s been validated/revisited in more recent years. Also queer and messy. Transplants the dynamics of teenage girl best friends into a horror movie setting. -The Babadook. Queer internet icon, but also an exploration of mental illness and the horrors of motherhood/the fear of being a bad mom. -The Descent. Do not watch this if you’re claustrophobic. A group of women go cave diving and discover creatures lurking beneath the earth. I think of certain shots/scenes from this movie often. -Black Christmas (1974). A sorority house is stalked by an unknown killer over the holiday season. Probably the one slasher that still scares the hell out of me, mainly because of how it chooses to depict its killer. Also more political than you’d think, featuring an abortion subplot in the 70s no less. -Us. Lupita Nyong'o should have won an Oscar for this one. -Hereditary. Ari Aster has his flaws as a filmmaker (who doesn’t) but this movie is like……really good. Toni Collette knocks it out of the park. Tw for GRAPHIC depiction of child death and suicide. Movies that personally scared the hell out of me: -Oculus. The fun thing about horror as a genre is that everyone has specific tropes that personally freak them the hell out. This movie dug its nails into one of mine and would not let go. -Parasite. People will probably argue that this is not a horror movie so much as a “thriller” but this movie felt like a borderline panic attack and filled me with despair, and if that ain’t horror, I don’t know what is. Sci-fish horror: -Nope. I really think this might be Jordan Peele’s best movie. Two fantastic lead actors, and dense with ideas, worth watching more than once. -Alien + Aliens. Sigourney Weaver should be enough of a selling point. The first two movies are famous, and they fully live up to the hype.
Personal faves: -Trick ‘r Treat. I watch this every October. A ton of fun. -The Lost Boys. 80s vampire camp, and kinda gay tbh. -Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. This film is darkly, gorgeously sumptuous. Just a spectacle of practical effects and costuming, and I highly recommend checking out the behind-the-scenes features. -The Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter. Lambs being my problematic fave for years. Manhunter is the best adaptation of Red Dragon hands down (no disrespect to NBC’s Hannibal.) -Rear Window. Because while Psycho is good, it’s also a problematic fave. Plus Rear Window was the first Alfred Hitchcock movie I ever saw, and it holds a special place in my heart for that alone. -The Invitation. The most uncomfortable dinner party in a film I’ve ever sat through. A slow burn for sure, with a terrifyingly good payoff. A movie about grief, unreliable narrators and primarily, the horror of no longer knowing people as well as you thought you did. Tw for suicide/self-harm. -Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I adore the first few seasons of the Tales from the Crypt TV series, but you don’t need to watch any of the show in order to enjoy this standalone movie. It’s silly. It’s gross. Billy Zane is having the time of his life as the villain, plus Jeryline is one my fave final girls in horror. -Hellraiser (1987). I adore Clive Barker as a writer (if you like to read horror too, please, PLEASE check him out) and I love that he got to direct his own feature film. This movie is gross, horny as hell, and unlike anything you’ve seen before. Misc recs: -Jacob’s Ladder. Surreal, nightmarish and tragic. Hard to talk about this one without giving too much away. Would recommend going in blind and letting it unfold. -Possession. This movie is Nuts. Even harder to talk about this one. Isabelle Adjani especially carries this film with her performance. -Barbarian. Probably my favorite new horror movie I watched last year. An examination of rape culture that didn’t feel exploitative (rare in horror.) Also some of the most bizarre plot twists I’ve seen. Go in blind. -American Psycho. Still my favorite role of Christian Bale’s to date. Funny: -Tremors. Horror is a fantastic space for practical effects, and it’s really, really hard not to love all the work that went into operating the giant worm puppets. Also hard not to love the queer platonic partnership between Kevin Bacon and Earl Bassett’s main characters. -What We Do in the Shadows. Also rec’ing the TV show, but the original film still holds up and is funny as shit. Animation: -Perfect Blue. Satoshi Kon is one my favorite creators of all time, and this was the first feature film he made. Tw for an implied/simulated rape scene. -Paranoia Agent. Not a movie but an 11 episode anime series, also from Satoshi Kon. A mixing of genres, but tied together with a horror-themed premise and tone. I fucking love this show.
I don’t know if they’re available internationally as a streaming service, so it might depend on what country you’re in? But if you’re looking to get into more horror, I would def recommend checking out Shudder. They’re strictly horror-focused, with a wide variety of film and TV, plus they’re only 5 dollars a month!
I would also suggest checking out a great book called, “It Came From The Closet”, a collection of essays on horror movies from queer and trans writers.
Happy viewing!!! Genuinely hope you enjoy and can't wait to hear what you think!

since we are on the subject of fic recs…i’ve got to be the one to ask… got and smut recs?
(also you’re very cool and a talented writer)
LB what have you been up to for the last few days you've been MIA from tumblr? The answer is having uni-induced mental breakdowns and sorting through the entire explicit Feysand archives on AO3. I’ve been organizing these rec lists by authors but I've sorted this one by theme so it’s easier for people to find what kind of smut suits their tastes. This is a very comprehesive list so I'm putting it under a read more.
I also tried to be strict about only including compeleted one-shots/two-shots but I did make some exceptions because they are too good not to include. Incomplete fics are marked with a 🙏 because I'm praying that one day the authors will bless us with more glorious content <33
✨= Feyre pov, 🌙 = Rhys pov
Disclaimer: regardless of how I've sorted these fics, please read the tags and the author's summary of the fics themselves and read at your own discretion. 🔞
Canon Compliant smut: Sex scenes with similar vibes to the Feysand sex life we saw in canon. (Very tender and loving, usually involves Rhys being a passionate simp for his High Lady)
Saturated Sunset ✨ - Rhys goes to pieces when he sees Feyre in a new set of lacy underthings (as he should)
Tease 🌙 - set in ACoMaF, Feyre gets revenge for that sexy vision Rhys sent her
Paint Me ✨ - Paintbrush play meets sensitive Illyrian wings
Chapter 55 🌙 - Rhys pov of all that sweet chapter 55 goodness.
Out of the Shadows 🌙 - Rhys pov of chapter 48 (inn scene)
Break ‘Em Out ✨ - Wingplay.
Live Another Day ✨ - An extended look into the tent scene in acowar.
The Wall ✨ - The High Lord and Lady get frisky an an alleyway in Velaris.
From Sunup to Sundown ✨ - What if Feyre had felt the mating bond snap on Starfall?
Moving Forward ✨ - Rhys comes home to see his High Lady admiring herself in lingerie.
You ✨ - An alternate version of the Inn Scene, where Feyre admits she wants Rhys.
Paint Me A Picture ✨ - Feysand find a loophole to a wedding tradition that forbids them from seeing each other the night before they're wed.
A Sweet Treat ✨🌙- a sweet Halloween inspired fic that has copious amounts of smut.
Training ✨ - Feyre got stuck in some rope while training. Oh no, help me step-High Lord I'm stuck.
Like what you see? ✨ - Feyre pays Rhys back for the vision on the roof with one of her own.
Unfinished Buisness ✨ - Feyre has a wet dream and Rhys decides to help it come to life.
Moonshine ✨ - Feyre bathes a very drunken, horny Rhysand (it's surprisngly wholesome).
Therapy ✨ - Feyre massages Rhysand's knee on a rainy day and the two of them get a little carried away.
a united front ✨ - Rhys gets Feyre a sexy gift to wear during an event that keeps them both distracted.
smooth ✨ - Feyre learns about body hair removal and Rhys is happy to help his High Lady feel confident in her body (this one is so sweet 🥺)
Birthday Regards 🌙 - Feyre gets Rhys an extra special present for his birthday.
Something Missing ✨ - Wing kink meets the paint kink. I love this one because it's so playful without sacrificing any of the passion.
This is How I See You 🌙 - Feyre is feeling insecure about her postpartum body and Rhys reminds how beautiful he finds her.
Just Like Her ✨ - an acomaf AU where Feyre and Rhys decided to be honest with each other after the CoN throne scene.
Make love before war ✨ - A closer look into frenzied sex in the Windhaven cabin after Cassian and Rhys finished fighting.
Darling I'd Hang the Stars For You 🌙 - this one is just so stinkin cute. The desperately in love Rhys we all adore, showing his devotion to his High Lady the way he knows best.
midnight blue citrus 🌙 - a power outaged timed perfectly with Feyre being in the shower so Rhys could bravely come to her rescue.
Make Your Good Love Known to Me ✨ - Rhys gives Feyre a very thorough massage to help her relax after a long day of training.
First Time Encounters: Feysand don’t know a lot about one another, but they do know they’re both very sexy people who should do naughty things to each other.
The Rules of the Game 🌙 - AU where Feysand meet in the Hewn city and shameless flirting ensues, among other things.
'cause my kiss goes down you like some sweet alcohol c - A stranger in a bar can't seem to keep his eyes off Feyre.
I could drink a whole damn case ✨ - Feyre goes to a bar to move on from her breakup and happens to meet eyes with the most alluring stranger.
A Letter to Satan 🌙 - Feyre sends a letter to Santa asking him to bring her a good fuck for Christmas... except she might have accidentally swapped a few letters.
Bite Me, Prick ✨ - Feyre is dared to spend the night in a spooky castle, and happens to meet a very interesting resident. (Aka the Feysand vampire smut we never knew we needed).
Frenzy/sex-pollen/calanmai/and other mating-bond shenanigans: besties just can’t control their lust for each other
All the Pieces Fall Right Into Place ✨- Calanmai fuck or die. I put this here instead of in Dub-con because it’s set at a point in the books they both (secretly) wanted each other.
Fire Night ✨ - if the calanmai chapter in acotar had gone a little differently.
Frenzy ✨ - Feyre is in “heat” and her smell drives Rhys crazy
Hate Me If It Helps 🌙 - Acomaf set pre-mating in which Feyre is exposed to an aphrodisiac and Rhys has no choice but to help.
You Don't Know What Hell You've Put Me Through ✨ - human Feyre is effected by sex-pollen and luckily there is a generous High Lord nearby to help her out.
Never Done (At Least For Tonight) 🌙✨ - Set between acomaf/acowar. Feyre and Rhys are both struggling and the mating bond bring them together in their sleep.
In Darkness She is All I See 🌙 - Feyre and Rhys accidentally consume a cherry pie laced with an aphrodisiac while visiting the new High Rulers of the Spring Court. (Part of the Cherry Pie Smut Extraveganza)
All Mine ✨ - Feyre gets jealous watching Cresseida flirt with her mate.
Dom/sub (but still loving): In which Feysand get experimental in the bedroom
Silk Ties ✨ - Feyre and Rhys try out some bondage in the bedroom. (soft dom Rhys)
The Midnight Feast 🌙 - Rhys is awakened by Feyre having a very nice dream about him. (Consensual somnophilia + dom Rhys)
they know you walk like you're a god (they can't believe I made you weak) ✨ - the Feyre pegging Rhys fic that will make my feyre's dick anon very happy.
We're All Just Animals ✨ - Feysand run into Issac in the mortal realm and jealous, possessive sex ensues.
to take, to worship ✨ - Gentle dom Rhys giving his Feyre exactly what she needs. (mild somnophilia + dom Rhys)
Fifty-Six ✨- The Feysand mating frenzy we were robbed of in ACoMaF. Includes gratuitous use of the words "good girl". (possessive sex + spanking)
Topped ✨ - More Rhys getting pegged content, because we deserve it.
Take It Off 🌙 - Feyre goes away on a trip and Rhys can't stand to be parted from her. Rough/vaguely possessive sex ensues when she gets back. (mutual masterbation + rough sex)
say you're mine 🌙- Rhys sees Feyre sitting with Tarquin and feels the need to remind Feyre who she belongs to. (possessiveness + rough sex + spanking)
lost in the way you move ✨ - Rhys comes home late and Feyre decides to "punish" him for it. (Dom Feyre)
you best believe that I got something up my sleeve 🌙- Cassian gifts Feysand a fleshlight and some experimental smut ensues. (cock/ball worship + begging + edging + toys)
Bindings and Blindfolds ✨ - Feyre uses some new toys to take control in the bedroom. (bondage and light BDSM)
I'm gonna make sure I'm the best you ever had ✨ - Another Rhys getting pegged fic because we as a fandom all know he'd lose his mind over his High Lady wanting to fuck him.
Pinned 🌙- Rhys drugs Feyre so she can't talk or move while he has his fun (consensually, ofc). Includes dirty talk that had me sweating.
Lessons ✨ - Feyre and Rhys decide to experiment with some kinks in the bedroom. (blind folds + handcuffs + merciless teasing, they each switch between dom/sub)
all the way down 🌙 - Feyre and Rhys try out their new sex swing.
we don't gotta hide this is what you like ✨ - Feyre and Rhys escape their party for a quick rondevouz in the bedroom. (oral sex + anal sex).
Feysand + guests 😏: for the sake of time, just go into these knowing they're all kinky as shit.
A Solstice to Remember ✨ - Feyre joins the batboys in the Solstice birchin.
Tell Me What You Want ✨ - Feyre and the batboys in their bedroom.
The Birchin ✨ - SJM may be a tease but the Feysand smut authors sure aren't 🙏
A Prythian Fertility Rite - The Inner Circle orgy you didn't know you wanted
Spindle's Thread - Cassian joins Feysand in bed (Cassian's POV)
in the night there is only you ✨ - Cass and Az enjoying Feyre while Rhys watches
follow me down the rabbit hole ✨ - Threesome between Helion/Feysand.
The High Lord, The High Lady, and the Spymaster - A delicious series of fics documenting the bedroom adventures of Rhys/Feyre/Azriel.
Look Who's Wet Now ✨ - Feyre + the bat boys having arguably too much fun in a swimming pool.
New Depths ✨ - Feyre and Rhys decide to try out some new things in the bedroom, including inviting a certain Autumn male to join them. (Feysand/Lucien)
Playtime ✨- Feyre decides to take Rhys up on his offer to have Helion join them in their bed.
Feyre and the Batboys ✨ - it's exactly as the title says and it's absolutely filthy (in the best way).
multiply- Lucien decides to join Feyre and Rhys in the shower. (Luicen pov)
Summerboy ✨ - In a visit to Summer Court, Feysand decide to invite Tarquin to their bed.
Court of Nightmares: either one or both of them assuming their CoN mask (with consent). Again, these are all exceptionally kinky. Please check the tags before you read!
At the Nightmare Court 🌙 - Feysand roleplaying the High Lord and his pet in the throne room.
What I've Shown You In The Dark ✨ - High Lord Rhys reminds Feyre who she belongs to
the world fades away ✨ - Feysand attend a CoN orgy and decide to have some fun of their own.
War Meetings are Dull 🌙 - Feyre gets a bit "touchy" at a high lords meeting and when they get home, Rhys shows her the repercussions.
Till Death Do Us Part ✨ - Essentially, Rhys takes Feyre into his sexy dungeon to have his filthy way with her.
Espionage 🌙 - Set in acowar. Tamlin brings Feyre to the CoN as a means to gloat and Rhys plays his CoN mask to perfection.
I was in the darkness so darkness I became ✨- How the CoN throne scene would have gone if Feysand had the restraint we wished they had (as in none at all).
Court of Nightmares? More like Court of "Pull My Hair" ✨ - Feyre and Rhysand need to find other means of entertainment while at the Court of Nightmares.
What I've Shown You In The Dark ✨ - Rhys takes Feyre to the Court of Nightmares to remind her who she belongs to.
Hate fucking: Honestly I thought there were way more of these fics when I made this category, so please enjoy this apparently very niche smut.
Fuck You, Feyre Darling ✨ - Feysand hate sex UtM
Ride home ✨ - Rhysand asks Feyre for a blowjob in exchange for a ride home. There’s only one issue—she hates him with a passion.
Sinful Chemistry ✨ - Porn actress Feyre Archeron can't stand her new co-star.
I do bad things with you ✨ - Feyre accidentally kisses her roommate. I had trouble placing this one, but I think the tension between them is reminiscent of hate fucking.
Daddy Rhys Supremacy: Tragically underrepresented in this fandom, if you ask me. Everyone drink this kool aid so we can have a longer list.
Can't Keep My Hands to Myself ✨- Written by yours truly. A prompt heavy Sugar daddy oneshot.
i'll take care of you ✨ - Rhys helps Feyre forget about her long day by taking control.
Tempt My Trouble ✨🙏- mafia AU meets sugar daddy AU and very intense sexy times ensue.
The Mist ✨🙏 - Feyre performs as a stripper for the first time and quickly catches the eye of the club's owner.
Guys My Age ✨🙏 - Feyre's steamy one night stand reappears in her life in the most inconvenient way.
Dub-con, dark-fic, dark Rhys: Feminism? Who is she?
In the Woods Somewhere ✨ - Feyre and Rhys share lucid dreams with each other while he's UtM. He decides to take something he wants for once.
Bound for More✨ - Feyre is chosen as the virign sacrifice for her village, but the monster doesn't seem very interseted in killing her...
Where we keep our nightmares 🌙 - An absolutely heart wrenching fic about Rhys overcoming his UtM trauma and Feyre doing her best to help him through it.
Under the Mountain ✨ - After Amarantha finds Rhys and Feyre kissing in the cave, she makes Rhys keep going while the rest of the court is made to watch.
your body reacting ✨ - Feyre's second trail UtM is having sex with Rhys.
Dead Dove: the ones where you learn things about yourself you don’t think you could even tell your therapist about. These are all non-con.
King Under the Mountain ✨ - UtM where dark!Rhys is High King and Feyre becomes his personal pet.
Lead Me Not Into Temptation ✨ - Lady of Spring Feyre gets kidnapped and taken back to the NC to be shared between the batboys.
At the Edge of Forever ✨ - On Feyre's wedding night, Rhysand comes to claim his right to the first night.
Ravenous ✨- Driven mad by loneliness and Amarantha's torture Under the Mountain, and unaware of their connection, Rhys takes young Feyre by force to sate his uncontrollable lust.
june in her eyes, in her heart january ✨ - Feyre and Rhysand break Tamlin's mind and use his body to ensure spring court will have an heir.

Halloween Movie Recommendations
Horror genre has always been my first love (when it comes to films). Aside from being born in October 31st, The Nightmare of Elm Street is one of my early introduction to films and The Exorcist is my first realization how powerful a film can get. I recalled how my stomach churned and my how weak my knees were, I can't barely stand after the credits roll. I am scared but I kinda yearned for the feeling. It became a thrill for me and it all branched from there. Right now, I am obsessed with all genres of moving picture, but it's always nice to go back to the genre which my family and other families bond over every movie night. Here's a list of (some) horror/thrillers I have watched and loved.

fic recs! (au edition)
hey so no one asked for this but I was just going through my bookmarks recently and figured why not make a list of fic recs for some fics that I really adore! these are in no particular order btw, and although I didn't make this post intending for these to all be au fics, those tend to be the fics I read more of so that's what they all are whoops
tail as old as time by blue000jay
status: complete
wc: 12,353
summary: Ranboo is not lonely, he tells himself as he works a summer job on the coastline. He's not lonely, he says as he crashes into two of the oddest people he's ever met.
He's not.
(or, Ranboo finds family in the most unexpected place. Mermay is abound.)
my notes: MERMAID AU!! so if yall didn't know I recently finished posting my own mermaid au over on my ao3, but fun fact this fic right here is what inspired it! I love this fic so much, I've already reread it like 4 times. It's just so fun and cute and has amazing summer vibes, along with being a very fun story about mermaids and magic. it's bench trio centric w/ sbi + tubbo family dynamic!
moonlight on the maples by ghostbandaids
status: ongoing
wc: 13,758
summary: He is dirt.
He is dirt and then he is not dirt. He is dirt and then he is sucking in a breath of roots and grass, feeling the beat of something—something that either is a heart or is masquerading as one—inside his chest. He is dirt and then, suddenly, he is not. He is electrified, jumpstarted.
“Fuck,” he mutters. “What the fuck?”
After all this time, the last thing that Tommy expected was to be alive again.
Wilbur and Technoblade are deeper than they should be into magic they don't quite understand. Techno has a secret. Phil is a professor trying to keep his family safe and keep them from failing his Latin class. Ranboo is worried that he's losing himself; Tubbo is worried that he's losing Ranboo. And Tommy—well, Tommy's been dead for twenty years, but he's not dead anymore...
my notes: ok so apparently this is inspired/kind of an au of the raven cycle?? I've never read trc but I had a lot of friends who were into it, either way though you don't need any prior trc knowledge to enjoy this. it's literally SO good, I'm so intrigued already! it has amazing atmosphere and a great mystery at its center, and smoothly switches between a bunch of different POVs. seriously go read it it's so interesting and i'm so excited for more
coup de grâce by greyquills
status: complete
wc: 22,680
summary: There’s only one explanation for this. Tommy knows, deep in his gut, what’s going on here. He knows why Wilbur is kneeling on the dirty durasteel floor, why Dream is looking at him like he wants to eat Will raw, and he aches to leap up and stop this in its tracks. The Force sings in anticipation, dark tendrils lapping at Tommy's shields.
“Teach me the ways of the Dark Side,” Wilbur breathes, staring up at Dream. “Master.”
Alternatively: Tommy's the only one close enough to watch Wilbur spiral down into the Dark. Sometimes, he wishes he'd been shrewd enough to stop it.
my notes: IF YOU LIKE STAR WARS AT ALL GOD PLS GO READ THIS! it's literally SO good like after I finished it I was just staring at my screen because it was such a journey. It's written so well and with such obvious love for the star wars universe, while perfectly integrating the dsmp crew into this world in a way that feels so natural. more specifically, Wilbur's descent to the Dark Side is just so well done, I'm a total sucker for 'falling to the Dark Side' tropes in SW and this one is just done amazingly. it's crimeboys centric angst, although you get a bit of bedrock bros in there as well! it's not really a happy ending though, just know that when getting into it
Hush Now (You Were Lost but Now You're Found) by CorpseArt
status: ongoing
wc: 64,113
summary: Red Chaos was the name the world had bestowed upon him, and Dream had laughed as he dragged Tommy down against his chest in a rough sprawl back against the couch, squeezing him tight after their first official mission together.
Tommy had done good and Dream had been proud.
-
Siren shifts, a look Tommy can’t be bothered to understand flashing briefly before his shoulders roll into a shrug.
“You saved my life.”
I know, Tommy thinks, lips drawing back in an ugly grimace. It ruined mine.
-
The morning paper lies discarded on the couch beside him with black bold headlines:
RED CHAOS: HERO OR VILLAIN?
my notes: YALL if you like superhero/supervillain aus then this is the fic for you (though this one is very popular so I'd be surprised if you haven't already read it). I've definitely read my fair share of the superhero/supervillain/vigilante au fics and this one is my number one hands down. it's honestly not so much about the whole superhero supervillain stuff, but primarily focused on relationships, both healthy and unhealthy ones. all the characters are so painfully human in this, and this has one of the most interesting crimeboys dynamics I've ever seen in a fic. it's just so well written and honestly i'm in awe of it, I get so excited every time it updates, pls go read it

summary: Tommy wakes up. He doesn't know if he's in Heaven or Hell.
[a sleepy bois inc-centric fabulous killjoys au]
my notes: yo ok so this is 100% me outing myself as an mcr stan, but this fic literally reignited my love for the entire world of the fabulous killjoys and reminded me how much I adored danger days as an album. this fic is super well-written and really fleshes out the world in the killjoys universe, but you don't exactly need prior knowledge of the fabulous killjoys to understand the fic! the reader learns along with Tommy as he's pretty clueless as to what's going on, but it's just such a fun and wild ride that just reminded me of my love for this universe. it's sbi centric though be warned techno isn't the nicest in this, and I won't lie, it has a kind of an angsty ending. still though I highly recommend reading it for some colorful nuclear desert wasteland fun!

hello! after watching your descent into CP 2077 for the past however many months, i decided i wanted to look into it myself and got it on sale. i was wondering if you have a mod list or mod recs for getting started? or a resource you could point a newbie toward? i'm excited to dive in :D thanks!
Hello! ♥ And welcome to CP2077 hell, lmao.
I do have a list of mods I was using a few months ago, but it's expanded way beyond these few at this point. Putting together a new, more comprehensive list is on my to-do list, but I haven't gotten around to it just yet.
If nothing else, I'd say the main ones to start with are Cyber Engine Tweaks and Appearance Mod Menu (which is a CET add-on). Most mods are as simple as dropping an .archive file into your mods folder, but you'll get maximum usage out of everything with those two mods installed. I mainly use CET for console commands for inventory items, like clothes, and AMM is essential if you want to get deep into photomode. (I did a full tutorial on that here, which also includes a list of a few recommended mods, specifically geared towards getting cool screenshots.)
The only downside to how huge and active the modding community is for CP77 is mods are spread out E V E R Y W H E R E. A lot of modders just drop links into Discord servers or use personal Google Drive folders so it can be hard to track down specific mods sometimes. These are my go-to places, though:
Cyberpunk 2077 on Nexus
Cyberpunk 2077 AMM Discord (specifically under #mod-showcase)
Cyberpunk 2077 Modding Discord (mostly #discord-exclusives)
I also have a Cyberpunk mods tag here to catalog what I come across on Tumblr.
If there's anything specific you're looking for, like a clothing item from a screenshot or a pose, just let me know!
#also i am delighted everytime someone tells me they got into cp77 bc of my obsession haha ♥#ENJOY ♥♥♥#t: wench replies#t: wench replies (cp77 help)#mods: cyberpunk 2077#fanworks: mods#mine: tips & tricks

Wangxian Fic Rec List
Who has two thumbs and has just fallen into Wangxian hell
👍🏽 This bitch 👍🏽
I have a need to chronicle my descent into madness so have some fic recs, as a treat. These are some of my favorites so far. They’re in no particular order and this is by no means an exhaustive list jsyk
Yearning for Miles by Murahi
Rating: M | Time Travel Fix-It (sort of) | Words: 351,140 | Status: On-Going
Summary:
Wei Wuxian claims he found it. Jiang Cheng learns to trust his brother more than ever. Nie Huaisang is smarter than he looks and Lan Wangji will still pine even if Wei Wuxian knows they’re supposed to fall in love. At least the token is taking care of most problems. Perhaps we can hope for a happier ending this time.
Or Wei Wuxian finds a strange artefact while he’s studying in Gusu. Apparently it shows the future.
Y’all. Y’all. I cannot even begin to express how much I love this fic. It takes the Time Travel Fix-It trope and turns it on its head, building a rich alternate timeline that I am deeply invested in and love to see develop. There are so many side pairings that are good actually, none of them boring or forced. (This fic actually got me to start shipping XiCheng lololol) And, get this, all of the pairings are slow build. Every. Single. One.
Tragedy is Not the End by Hobbys3
Rating: Teen And Up | Time Travel Fix-It | Words: 358,230 | Status: Complete
Summary:
When Sizhui, Jingyi, and Zizhen are captured with Jin Ling at the Guanyin Temple, they're sure that Hanguang Jun and Wei Wuxian will fix everything - until Su She stabs Lan Wangji through the stomach, and everything falls apart around them. In a last, frantic attempt to undo the damage Jin Guangyao has done, Wei Wuxian activates a deadly array to send the four juniors back in time, sending them to the morning of Jin Ling's one-month celebration. With the fate of everyone and everything they love in their hands, Sizhui, Jin Ling, Zizhen and Jingyi race to prevent the ambush at Qiongqi Pass and the subsequent fallout, but Jin Guangyao has returned from the future as well, and he has no intention of letting what he wants fall through his hands a second time.
Another Time Travel Fix-It. This one sends the junior quartet into the past and everyone has many Feelings about it. It also has plenty of drama, intrigue, and action to keep you on the edge of your seat. A must-read!
In My Defence, I Have None (For Never Leaving Well Enough Alone) by SemiLocalCryptid
Rating: Teen And Up | Time Travel Fix-It | Words: 58,588 | Status: On-Going
Summary:
Wei WuXian, Lan WangJi, and Wen Ning are unsure of how they feel about Nie Huaisang trapping them in a soul-transferring array that sends them to the past, long before the happy ending they had suffered so much for. Reliving their most traumatic memories is not what they had planned when they went out on a seemingly innocuous nighthunt. But now that they're here, apparently to stay, they have no intention of making the same mistakes twice.
(Or, a Time-Travel AU where Nie Huaisang sends Wei WuXian, Lan WangJi, Wen Ning, and himself back to their first night at the Cloud Recesses with an agenda: save everyone, especially his brother)
Listen. I know that this is another Time Travel Fix-It but it’s so good. The author has done a fabulous job of setting everything into motion and I can’t wait to see this fic unfold!
So Call Me a Pessimist, but I Don't Believe in It by Anonymous
Rating: Not Rated | Transmigrators!Wei Ying and Wen Ning AU | Words: 50,274 | Status: On-Going
Summary:
"There are a few options." Wen Ning said. "One. Everyone around us is having a shared delusion with fantastic props. Two. I'm having a delusion which includes seeing you."
"Two B. I'm having a delusion that includes you." Wei Ying said.
"Three. We're having a shared delusion," Wen Ning nodded. "Four. We're in our grandparents' favorite TV show as their favorite characters."
In which Wen Ning and Wei Ying fall into their grandparents' favorite TV Show, the Untamed, which was based on a gay romance novel, and everyone seems to think they're characters that were already in it. Except when he watched the show, he was pretty sure Lan Zhan didn't look at the real Wei Wuxian like he's looking at Wei Ying, and he and Wen Ning are having to use a lot of memes in order to communicate without the people around them understanding.
AKA Modern Wen Ning and Wei Ying transmigrate to the Untamed.
While there is a tragic lack of Wangxian Transmigrator AU fics (if you have any recs send them my way please my children are starving), this one has to be one of the best one I’ve read so far. It’s equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking. Highly recommend!
Wrong Turn, Right Place by diamondbruise
Rating: Explicit | Transmigrator!Wei Ying AU | Words: 71,309 | Status: Complete
Summary:
Fuck, he had totally walked into a set, hadn’t he? The beautiful, ethereal looking actor in his period piece outfit was pissed and waiting to tear him a new one, if the expression was any clue. One moment the man was up, and then, the next second, he had gracefully jumped from the wall in front of Wei Ying, who, only by the strength of his will, did not scream in alarm. He did yelp a little. But very manfully. “No entry after sunset,” said the man, and his voice was deeper than Wei Ying could’ve guessed. “How did you get past the wards?”
or, modern!wwx takes a wrong turn and ends up in the cultivation world
Another Transmigrator AU I love. Modern!WWX is a chaos gremlin and I love him. The chemistry between him and Lan Zhan is incredible and the smut at the end is *chef’s kiss*
Wearing Down Every Bone by CSHfic, VSfic
Rating: Explicit | Groundhog Day AU | Words: 30,867 | Status: Complete
Summary:
“Sizhui, tell me,” Wei Wuxian says. “Does this feel... familiar to you?”
or
After running into Lan Zhan on a night hunt, Wei Wuxian is cursed to live the same day over and over and over.
This fic is so beautiful ugh. It’s exactly as funny and as tragic as you’d expect with Wei Wuxian stuck in a Groundhog Day-esque situation.
build me no shrines by occultings (microcomets)
Rating: Mature | Post Canon Fix-It | Words: 54,585 | Status: Complete
Summary:
Wei Wuxian opens the letter and skims through, feeling his frown deepen with every line. “Oh. A request from Yiling. This man Tong Shen writes, 'I can’t explain what’s happening — you wouldn’t believe me if I tried. The hills are moving and they are hungry. Please send aid, Hanguang-jun, this humble one begs you.' Well, my curiosity is certainly piqued."
A few months after the events of Guanyin Temple, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji take on a night hunt of an unusual sort: The Burial Mounds are spreading, quickly and with no apparent explanation.
In Wei Wuxian, it brings old, long-buried things bubbling to the surface.
The Burial Mounds are sentient and they want Wei Ying. Lots of delicious Wangxian angst and h/c, plus some smut at the end.
nevermore, nevermore by agloeian
Rating: Teen And Up | Time Travel Fix-It | Words: 116,175 | Status: Complete
Summary:
Only a few moments ago, Guanyin temple had been collapsing around him, rubble falling at his feet. Sizhui had frozen in the midst of it all, completely unmoored. He did nothing still when Senior Wei pressed close and smiled at him, blood dripping from the corners of his lips. It was a gory smile, all red teeth, and so obviously forced. “It’s okay, Sizhui,” he’d said. “You’ll be okay.”
And then a talisman was slammed into his diaphragm.
---
Lan Sizhui finds himself sixteen years in the past - before the ambush at Qiongqi Path, before the Bloodbath of Nightless City, before Lan Wangji's seclusion, and before Wei Wuxian's death.
He has the opportunity to save his family - all of it. Sizhui isn't going to let that slip through his fingers.
Okay so I know this is another Time Travel Fix-It but hear me out. It’s very good. Sizhui is sent back and there is much drama and family feels. He also gets his dads to pull their heads out of their asses and get together, it’s great.
The Simplest Way Forward by harriet_vane
Rating: Explicit | Modern AU, Kid Fic | Words: 70,972 | Status: Complete
Summary:
It’s a really unfortunate thing, developing a crush on your husband. Wei Ying had assumed this would be easy. Lan Zhan had been so icy and unpleasant to him, it had never occurred to him that he might end up spending the next however many years with this dumb, burning feeling in his chest whenever he looks at him.
“Okay,” says Wei Ying. “But tell me if I…if the pretending gets to be too hard, okay?”
“It will not,” says Lan Zhan, quietly certain.
Wangxian get hitched so Wei Ying can get papers and adopt A-Yuan. Then they fall in love. Much pining and eventual smut.
The Price of Old Wishes by SoManyJacks
Rating: Explicit | Lan Zhan POV | Words: 67,795 | Status: Complete
Summary:
With Lan SiZhui almost grown, Lan WangJi began to question if there was much else to live for. Then an old wish came true, but at what cost?
Or, a retelling of the events of the novel from the perspective of Lan WangJi.
The novel from Lan Zhan’s POV. So much pining, it’s great.
The Fire Lapping Up the Creek by notevenyou
Rating: Explicit | Canon Divergence | Words: 66,299 | Status: Complete
Summary:
Wei Wuxian travels to Lanling for his nephew’s one-month celebration alone, without Wen Ning.
Lan Wangji lives with the consequences.
Drama™. Very much Angst With a Happy Ending.
one good thing by Yuu_chi
Rating: Teen And Up | Modern AU, Ghost!Wei Ying | Words: 26,608 | Status: Complete
Summary:
Wei Wuxian has been haunting his childhood home for three years. He's perfected the fine art of scaring away all the tenants, and has grown used to living with the dying flowers in the garden as his only company.
When Lan Wangji buys the house, Wei Wuxian fully intends to drive him off too. Except Lan Wangji is beautiful, and interesting, and captivating company - even if he supposedly doesn't know Wei Wuxian exists.
It’s funny, heartbreaking, and has a happy ending!
this river runs to you by sundiscus
Rating: Teen And Up | Modern With Magic AU | Words: 53,389 | Status: Complete
Summary:
Framed by the soft morning light, sleek hair swept back and pale blue robes not even slightly rumpled, he looks almost inhuman.
He looks like the last person who should be knocking on Wei Wuxian’s door.
In which Wei Wuxian is a curse worker secretly searching for a lost dragon, Lan Wangji is his new assistant, and the two things may not be entirely unrelated.
Love the lore in this one. Plus the Slow Build!Wangxian is delicious.

So this year I, like a lot of people, was going through some stuff. And the way I coped, particularly over the summer, was by reading. I read between 275 and 300 books this year (final count pending), which is certainly the most I’ve done in at least a decade. And a lot of them were very good! I narrowed myself down to a list of forty recommendations, with short write-ups of ten, and made a point of not repeating authors. You can see everything else on my StoryGraph account though.
YA/MG:
The Beast Player - Nahoko Uehashi trans. Cathy Hirano
Death Sets Sail - Robin Stevens
Echo After Echo - A.R. Capetta
Half World - Hiromi Goto
A Phoenix First Must Burn: Sixteen Stories of Black Girl Magic, Resistance, and Hope - ed. Patrice Caldwell
Shadow of the Batgirl - Sarah Kuhn & Nicole Goux
A Song Below Water - Bethany C. Morrow
The Scapegracers - Hannah Abigail Clarke
YA contemporary fantasy is obviously a well-trodden genre, but this felt like a really fresh take. Sharp prose, interesting magic system, and a really fantastic and original-feeling POV character. I can’t wait for the sequel.
We Are Not Free - Traci Chee
This is a historical novel about residents of Japanese-American internment compounds during WWII, so it is not a light read. But it was powerfully emotionally affecting, and really compelling from a craft perspective as well; each chapter is narrated by a different character, and seeing how all the perspectives intersect is really remarkable.
ADULT FICTION (mostly spec):
A Choir of Lies - Alexandra Rowland
The City We Became - N.K. Jemisin
The Empress of Salt and Fortune - Nghi Vo
The Four Profound Weaves - R.B. Lemberg
Homesick: Stories - Nino Cipri
Master of Poisons - Andrea Hairston
Mexican Gothic - Silvia Moreno-Garcia
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water - Zen Cho
Phoenix Extravagant - Yoon Ha Lee
Piranesi - Susanna Clarke
The Seep - Chana Porter
Skin Deep Magic - Craig Laurance Gidney
Stormsong - C.L. Polk
Freshwater - Akwaeke Emezi
One hell of a debut novel. Emezi has said it’s largely autobiographical, which makes it one of two really unique takes on autobiography and memoir that I’ve read this year. It’s about trauma, immigration, queerness, disability...I really just recommend you read it, though perhaps after checking a summary, as it deals very frankly with some potentially triggering subjects.
Not So Stories - ed. David Thomas Moore
This year I spent a lot of time with short stories and novellas, which is a little unusual for me. Several collections made a strong impression (there’s a few others on this list), but I adore the conceit of this one, which features a group of authors of colour responding to Kipling’s intensely colonial “Just So Stories” by writing new fables of their own. Some directly riff on Kipling’s tales, others go in entirely new directions, but all are really effective.
The Raven and the Reindeer - T Kingfisher
Kingfisher is one of those authors I discovered this year who I am shocked I had never read earlier. She’s prolific, works in genres I like, and is beloved by several of my friends. Consider this book a stand-in for her catalogue in general on this list, although of all the books by her I read it’s the only direct fairy-tale retelling. Really great take on Andersen’s Snow Queen
The Unspoken Name - A.K. Larkwood
This was just a ton of fun. Very queer, frequently hilarious, in a totally bizarre fantasy world (worlds, even!) and with a great protagonist. Another really confident debut novel, and another one where I can’t wait to check out where the series goes from here.
NONFIC:
The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma - Bessel van der Kolk
Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories From the 21st Century - ed. Alice Wong
Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space - Amanda Leduc
Distorted Descent: White Claims to Indigenous Identity - Darryl Leroux
In the Dream House - Carmen Maria Machado
The other unique memoir I alluded to above, Machado non-linearly unpacks an abusive relationship she experienced with incredible clarity and artfulness. As someone who’s experienced abuse, parts were very familiar, and Machado’s writing is very effective at laying a situation bare (a skill she uses to great effect in her short fiction as well). This book also has some of the most memorable and narratively impactful citations I have ever seen. Read it to understand how that’s the case.
The North-West is our Mother - Jean Teillet
This is straight-up a history book but it’s a very clear and engaging one. For people who’ve ever wanted to know more about Métis people and our history, particularly in the 19th and early-20th century, this is going to be one of my go-to recs. It’s a little sparser with the more recent stuff, but there are other books to fill that gap.
ROMANCE:
Band Sinister - K.J. Charles
The Doctor’s Discretion - E.E. Ottoman
Invitation to the Dance - Tamara Allen
Two Rogues Make a Right - Cat Sebastian
Silver in the Wood - Emily Tesh
A Taste of Honey - Kai Ashante Wilson
Behind These Doors - Jude Lucens
This year is really the first I’ve read romance in any serious way, but I did read a lot of it and learned a fair amount about what I like. This ticks a lot of those boxes (historical [Edwardian, in this case]! Gay! Engages honestly with social issues of the period!) while also being a story about people negotiating polyamory, with much of the conflict being rooted in how one effectively communicates with the people they care about. Really different from anything else I read, and really well-done.
The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows - Olivia Waite
This is probably my favourite romance novel of the year. It’s a slow-burn Regency story about the relationship between two middle-aged working women, a beekeeper and a bookseller. It’s also a story about prejudice, mob mentality, and the intense class divide in Regency England -- the Peterloo massacre is a significant element, and the way that opposition to it brought together a coalition of different social groups that ultimately could not hold due to other prejudices dividing them. It’s really nuanced, and really effective. Also, I am assured by a lesbian friend that the sex scenes are very hot.
SO ANYWAY. A lot of recommendations, and more detail about some of the ones I most encourage people to pick up. Really in my opinion you can’t go wrong with any of these, though, and I hope you take a look at some next time you’re searching for something to read!
What a year, huh?
