wish i had a friend who gave a shit about gef the talking mongoose, the dalby spook, soooo bad bc i want to call someone up and rant about something that pisses me off but everyone i know either doesn’t care about gef or thinks the whole idea of him is stupid !!!!! tearing my teeth out and crawling on my walls !!!! he is a kind of angel to me !!!! and the word angel means something different to me than normal people… i think what im trying to say is like extra dimensional cryptid and my word for that is angel…. bc that’s what angels are to me …

I think it's so funny that the 2011/Dark Eyes Eighth Doctor promo photos have him wearing the messenger bag in all the shots (or at least the vast majority I haven't seen any without) since there is exactly 0 indication that he is carrying a bag around with him.

I really enjoyed What Lies Inside. It's like Big Finish said "Now we've finished Stranded, let's mix things up a bit and do some stories that are actually good."
Paradox of the Daleks is all the reasons I listen to time travel stories. It's one of those stories that as soon as you finish it you immediately want to go back and listen to again now that you know what's happening. And it all makes sense. So good.
And The Dalby Spook! (Spoilers)
I wasn't expecting much from The Dalby Spook, never having been particularly interested in Jeff the Talking Mongoose, but it was really fun.
Jeff was MAGNIFICENT ("Take that, y'sinner!"). And, despite loving Rikki Tikki Tavi as a child, I did not foresee the climax or guess what they were fighting. But how inspired of the writers! If you're up against a Mara-like entity, what better ally than Jeff the Talking Mongoose? I only wish that the Doctor had made some reference to his previous experiences with the Mara (and other psychical snake entities), even if only "Yes, I rather thought it might be!" when Helen shouted that it was a snake.
It was wonderful having Liv and Helen working together again. I love their dynamic in times of crisis, with Liv working out some desperate plan and Helen trusting her completely and going along with it, but not without dryly voicing various concerns.
Anyway, so much fun after Stranded.

Screener Squad: Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose NANDOR FODOR AND THE TALKING MONGOOSE For all the famed historical figures who’ve seen biopics made of their lives and times, it’s always a pleasure to discover a lesser known individual of significance who’s been little more than a footnote in world history. Such is the case of Nandor Fodor and his experience with the famed Dalby Spook on the Isle of Man. Nandor Fodor was a Hungarian-born parapsychologist and author known for his research and writings on paranormal phenomena. Fodor was a prominent figure in the field of parapsychology during the mid-20th century and is perhaps best known for… Read More »Screener Squad: Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose read more on One of Us

i was thinking about ‘the dalby spook’ and went wait a moment am i sure this is an actual thing ive actually listened to or just a weird, vaguely doctor who related dream i can remember. no. its an actual audio. that i actually brought. that had an actual scriptwriter and actual editors and actual actors to make it a tangible thing. it’s not a bad story it’s just that i can’t believe it was actually written by a person and actually made by actual people. im in denial.

Y'know, I've always believed in or atleast been interested in mythology and the paranormal, but out of everything... nothing has caught my interest as much as Gef the talking mongoose has. I'm fascinated and curious by and about him as the story behind it all. I've done research, and I've drawn him, and watched videos on him. I've watched that movie about him even (although it wasn't the best, I still can't help but adore it atleast a bit). I wish that I can go to the isle of man someday, and perhaps go where gef had been. I want to search and listen and explore. I want to discover whatever I can of that clever little earthbound spirit. And if by some chance, I can find him as real, and still here, I'd like to talk to him. He's so interesting to me, I'd enjoy knowing more. As much as I can.

New episode of The Unfair Folk!
Are you a Fan of Ferrets? A Mongoose Maniac? Do you Stan Stoats? Then check out the most recent episode of TUFF where we talk about a particularly strange “haunting” from the 1930s.
Once again a huge thanks to @the-telltale-heart for cohosting!
