What does Slug City take inspiration from?

Slug city was almost entirely inspired by this music video! Eve’s “We’re Still Underground”

I was entranced by everything about it when it came out, particularly the lingering sense of impending doom in a beautiful but ruined world. I’m also a huge fan of the “large otherworldly beastly things inhabiting city” look. The overall visuals and artistic direction of this music video is exactly what I’d like to capture for slug city. Neon lights, crackling electricity, and a sense of internal conflict and a point of no return. I’m not really sure how else to explain why this video hits so well but I loved it enough to draw heavy inspiration from. This is what I would show people if asked what the mood and tone of Slug City is. Near the same time, I drew the first doodles for King (which I do not have on hand at the moment), and I decided to expand the idea of anthro invertebrate characters, and Slug City was born. Here’s some thumbnails I drew up sometime later. unfortunately the best pictures I have are screenshots from my instagram story.

this wesper playlist set (credit to mia @singularities for the template) the purple and gold SLAPS. i am not a fan of my blending and sharpening in the last gif though but in my defense the deleted scene is a bitch to work with

this heartstopper rainbow gradient set. this took years out of my life to complete and as long as i don't look too closely at each individual gif i remain very proud of it

lastly this yellowjackets set. i love this poem sm and while i'm not very happy with how a lot of the gifs turned out it is cancelled out by how proud i am of the last gif
