this morning a few of my coworkers told me i have a calming presence and im not high strung and as someone who feels that steady hum of anxiety on a consistent if not constant basis, unprovoked verbal acknowledgement that im not growing up like my mother just felt so, so good

#my mother is high strung anxiety takes it out on everyone else and the fear of turning out like her is a huge component of why I don't want #kids of my own #i couldnt be sure i wouldnt mess them up #but last night we had a little four year old who was brought in because his mom was in police custody #the briefest of report i got was that hes autistic nonverbal hydro encephalopathy with a shunt #i just knew he wouldn't stop screeching at the top of his lungs and my coworker that was in there had to be stressed out #but he calmed down and took a nap for me and didn't have a conversation but could articulate some of his big feelings and when he woke up #we were buddies
