i think a super important point people are missing in the whole current bookgate is that, well, someone saying certain book is their favorite doesn’t even mean that they think that’s the best book in the world.
like, people are being so radical and black and white about the whole thing (shocker! wow!) that they jump to assuming that anyone who has a preference for a simple book is incapable of reading more complex books/subjects/topics. they’re just saying it’s their favorite, and a favorite doesn’t have to be the best. it’s just the one you enjoy the most/find comfort in/gets you out of a slump/has a meaningful significance to you, etc. and favorites can change as you read more, or they can stay the same in spite of how much you read, and both cases are fine.
#like. idk.#it’s like. is hbo’s chernobyl a more complex more serious series than brooklyn nine nine? well probably. do i prefer it? lol no#and i liked it very much and it had a deep impact in me#but it’s not my favorite anyway#and i won’t turn to it when i want comfort or something familiar to watch or want to have fun#does that make me stupid?#probably so. according to a lot of people on the internet#but i don’t think so lol so! 🤷🏻♀️#the black and whiteism with which some of y’all approach topics is so deranged and harmful and annoying#get off your high horses pls!
