She is, but in a different way!

She tried to be a TV news anchor, but she didn't have quite the "appeal" that the stations wanted, so she instead started writing for The Daily News, taking over her Uncle August's position there when he retired. She wrote for them under his name in order to get more equal pay (which was even more difficult in the 1970s), so for a long time it was not generally known that she was a woman.

When it did become known, however, and people found out that she wrote many of the best articles that were attributed to August, the news stations started trying to get her to work for them, after all. She decided instead to go freelance, selling both written and filmed news stories to the outlets.

Definitely, even though there is a nine-year age gap (when she first meets the Turtles, she is 25 and the guys are 16). After getting over the initial shock of finding out there are humanoid turtles living under her building, she quickly becomes something of a big sister to them -- much to Splinter's delight, since he is getting up there in years and needs a little help keeping his rowdy boys down to earth at times!

🦸 Is Casey a vigilante?

He is, yes! In fact, the plot of my first planned story for the iteration covers how and why he became one... and, of course, his first run-in with the Turtles.
