My friend and I once had this funny little parody musing about the Paul Is Dead theory where Paul goes missing (but is actually just on vacation or smth) and the others dunno what to do w/o him so they pool their money, steal Brian's checkbook and buy a Paul clone robot called the PmcC2000.

I'm thinking about drawing all this just for shiggles if anyone is interested. (More details will follow depending)

LA-LA-LA

The Critters began recording for "La-La-La" during their fifth studio session for their upcoming album "HELP!" on February 19th, 1995 at Playcare Road Studios. This first session contained a rough backing track, with overdubbed organ, as well as complete drums.

On March 30th, the song was finished, with a redone arrangement - however keeping the organ and some of Catnap's drum parts form the initial session on the 19th.

Fun facts to know and tell:

The chrous of "La La La" was actually originally a placeholder as Bubba and Kickin hadn't yet decided what to write at that point for the next record. However, they ended up keeping them as the chorus and main bit of the song because Crafty & Catnap liked it.

The Critters performed the song in a sequence in their film Help!, filmed at Twickencare Studios where they would later make Let It End. In the scene, The group mimes to the song in a recording studio environment, presumably intended to represent Playcare Road. However, the performance is curtailed when Dogday's cult who are chasing after Catnap cut a hole around his drum kit from the room below.

My interpretation of a beatles modern au

Let's set the scene: The au would take place right now in the 2020s- or as far back as the 2010s to now. The boys meet and sign with brian, then move from liverpool to london before they debut as an official band to the public. brian is 28, john and ringo are both 20, paul is 18 and george is 17.

Slowly i'm beginning to hone my craft for my little silly Smiling Critters AU. Titled "The Critters AU", which follows the story of "The Critters" who in this alternative 1990s take on the role of The Beatles - as in this universe, there was no Beatles in the 60s. (With some Rutles tossed in for good measure)

What is The Critters AU?

Originally started as a joke among friends, the AU focuses on an alternative world timeline where The Beatles never existed in the 1960s, and a group called "The Fabs" were in their place, who did enough to progress music along - albeit stunted - until we reach 1986, where 16 year old Bryan "Bubba" Bubbaphant formed a band called The Quartermen with school pals, kicking off the story of The Critters.

This AU samples from both The Beatles' real story as well as the story of parody band The Rutles'. - With absurd situations and debauchery happening throughout their time as a band, The Critters took the 1990s by storm and even though breaking up in early 2000, their impact on their worlds culture lives on.

From their first album "Please Please Me" to the bitter end with "Let It End", The PreFab four created a sensation that will last a playtime.

MEET THE CRITTERS!

Bryan "Bubba" Bubbaphant

Bryan William Bubbaphant was born on May 21st, 1970

In his youth Bubba was a very good boy whose only fault was violence, eventually becoming a very naughty boy. At age 5, he began attending Charlton Heston Elementary; during a summer holiday at at age 6, he blew it up when the school's faculty was away. The school was later rebuilt, but in late 1977 Bubba blew up the re-built school during that year's summer holiday.

To channel Bubba's violence, his uncle introduced him to the banjo, the perfect instrument for the anti-social, at age 7. This led him into a long and very ill-advised career in music. His uncle once famously said; "That banjo's good, Bubs, but you'll never earn a quarter-dollar with it."

Richard "Kickin" McChicken

Johnathan Richard McChicken was born on March 29th 1972.

He has a younger brother, Pluck McChicken, and a younger stepsister named Luna "Plink" McChicken. The eldest of his siblings to british immigrants, Kickin' was severely bullied throughout his youth due to his british accent, which soon lead him to respond to his bullies by kicking them in the teeth with all his might. Earning him the repuation of being feared, along with the nickname " Kickin' ".

Later in life, he bumped into Bubba Bubbaphant at 43 Eggritos Lane in 1988, and the two to the ground. Kickin' begrudingly took up Bubba's offer to help him up, and the rest is history. Kickin' joined Bubba's band, the Quartermen, as a rhythm guitarist, and he formed a close working relationship with Bubba. The Quartermen evolved into The Critters in 1990. Of which then due in 1991 to then Critters Bass player Bunzo Bunzcliffe leaving the group, and no longer having a bassist, Kickin' was forced to play on bass.

Crafty O'Corn

Crafty O'Corn was born on February 18th, 1973.

Born to parents whom had immigrated from South Cornica, her earliest musical influences included George Formby, Django Reinhardt, Carl Perkins, Chet Atkins and Chuck Berry. well known as "a thin unicorn of no fixed hairstyle" as well as a "major key alert" by aquaintences. As a child she attended the Dwight School for Girls, then later Hawthorns High.

Crafty was originally discovered after her uncle gave Justin Redact a tape of her singing & playing guitar that he forwarded to Aster Lulani, president of Smiling Critters Records. Lulani gave the tape to Void Wolftin for evaluation and Void, recognizing her talent, became her producer. Crafty was only 15 years old.

Later on in 1988, Crafty was visiting her friend Plink McChicken down at a music hall on Main Street and saw a group of rough looking boys on stage playing pure rock & roll. Crafty was amazed by what she saw, and knew she had to join. After impressing Bubba Bubbaphant by playing the "Free Bird" solo at two times speed with no mistakes, his reluctance to let her join due to her age dropped.

Catnapper Starrkey Womble Of Bloodclan, 4th to the Throne Of Shadows

Catnap Starrkey was born July 7th, 1970 in a lower class cult.

When he was 5, Catnap got attacked by an ostrich, which made him afraid to go outside for 10 years. Being inside 24/7 led to Catnap spending all his spare time around drums, as well as sleeping. Which upon a fateful session led to him developing a talent of playing the drums while sleeping!

As a teenager, Catnap had become interested in managing bars but also in the US Skiffle Revival Craze of the mid to late 80s. In 1987, he founded his first group "The Sleeping Skiffles". Between 1988 and 1991, Catnap played in many smaller bands, but never stuck around too long as he was always on the lookout for a group that could go places, as he wanted to become a Star, to live up to his name.

Eighteen months after the forming of The Critters, Bubba Bubbaphant, Kickin' McChicken and Crafty O'Corn discovered Catnap sleeping in the back of their van in Plainview. They allowed him to join the group, on the condition he buy the drinks and cut his fur to save Brylcreem, which he did. Catnap then officially became the new Critters drummer, replacing Dogday Alright, who - bitter by his replacement went on to become a successful cult leader, vowing he'd one day find a way to sacrifce "The Purple Testicle" and earn his spot back in The Critters.
