This scene really summed up the whole movie for me. Was it funny? Yes I laughed quite a bit, but it's so clearly corporate boardroom funny. You can just see the conference room of business men looking at the Loki Hulk scene from the first Avengers and demanding the writers put in a scene that will get similar reactions from the audience. Basically everytime this movie manages to evoke the feeling of D&D its completely accidental because what they are trying to evoke is the feelings brought on by Marvel movies. Sometimes that works because players all love being silly and talking modern and funny about whatever is going on in their fantasy world. The problem is that it never feels like they're characters trying to live out their silly ideas they are all stock humorous archetypes trying to play out their stock humorous moments. The whole movie is laughing at itself not because it wants to bring a core of comedy to a fantasy world, but because it's absolutely piss terrified of letting you think its taking itself seriously.
This movie does not feel like D&D campaign, it feels like one of those D&D players that cannot let go of the fear of being judged and has to undercut every serious moment by mocking some part of the story because they're absolutely certain you're an asshole that's about to mock them and they have to beat you to it.
