#the bacchae and the oresteia are the two most common foundations for how people think about tragedy#but the book i just finished talked about tragedy in a way that clearly owed more to the persians than it was letting on#and also more obviously centered ajax#the other book i finished recently built its entire theory of tragedy around the trachiniai and hippolytus (and the bacchae)#the book i read in december i think centered ajax and hippolytus and oedipus at colonus (as well as the bacchae and oresteia)#oh and obviously aristotle uses oedipus rex as his model#mine
