Lying (Next) To You (Cassandra Dimitrescu/Reader)

Merely surviving had never been your intention. From day one in this foul place, this unholy castle, you had strived to escape. No matter what, you refused to allow such dismal grounds to be your grave. But leaving wouldn’t be as simple as walking out an unlocked door. It required manipulation, agility, and the willingness to screw over anyone who got in your way. Even those who you would have once called friends, or the closest thing you had to that among the servants. Was that something you were willing to do? Absolutely, without a shred of doubt in your mind. Someday, somehow, regardless of what it took, you’d get out and never look back. For now, though, all you can do is scheme…

Three targets, each incredibly difficult to get your hands on, each presenting their own unique challenges. Which would be easiest to charm? You were still debating that answer.
First was Bela: The eldest, most responsible, forced to be the “role model” for her sisters. A bookworm (a trait the two of you shared) who spent a fair amount of her freetime in the library. While not overtly cruel, she was still rather violent, especially in cases where she felt her family had been insulted. However, there were whispers that she had a secret weakness: Anxiety. None had caught her in the open throes of an attack and lived to tell the tale. But she had been overheard, more than once, quiet cries or shaking breaths. Trying to talk to her during one of these occasions could lead to gaining her affection- if you managed to do what no other had been capable of doing, that is.
Second was Daniela: The youngest, most excitable, eager to please and desperate to be pleased. Easily interacted with more maidens than either of her sisters, though not always in a good way. Getting her attention could mean getting pulled into her room in the middle of the night, for some “fun”, or it could mean getting drained of all of your blood. Sometimes she did one after the other. Like Bela, she was a bookworm, though she preferred romance novels as opposed to her older sister’s educational texts. As for her weakness? To you, Daniela seemed to be the definition of “undiagnosed ADHD”. Less exploitable for sympathy than her sister, but possibly useful in helping you trick her. At the end of the day, the largest concern with her was her inconsistent behavior, her tendency to flip moods at the drop of a hat- and a drop of the hat with her could feel a helluva lot like a drop of an axe (onto your neck).
Then came the third… the one you didn’t think was worth the risk, whatsoever: Cassandra. Middle child and acting just like it, she was hungry for her mother’s approval, attention, and respect most of all. Bloodthirsty as could be, with a mean streak eight kilometers wide, the truest monster you had ever met. Even her fondness for the arts manifested in malevolent ways. Supposedly, she painted in blood, and made sculptures from the bones of her victims, displayed proudly in her room as trophies. What could you possibly do to earn her affection? What could you ever be to her, other than a plaything or mid-afternoon snack?... Nothing, you assumed, and so you figured you might as well remove her from your list. Somehow you’d have to make do with one of her sisters. As for which one?... You decided to let fate decide, and go for whomever you found yourself with an opportunity to court.

Free time was a rare commodity in Castle Dimitrescu. While every servant did technically get one day off every week, it wasn’t uncommon to end up helping with something unexpected, even if one tried to hide away in the private quarters. For you, it was an opportune time to try and get closer to your targets. So far three weeks had passed since your “decision” to focus on Bela and Daniela, without a single interaction with either of them. Still, hope held fast in your chest, as you made haste towards the library. On this free day you intended to read as much as possible. ‘Twas a two-pronged goal: First, you would increase your chances of running into one of your preferred employers. Secondly, you could possibly learn something through what content you consumed, perhaps to be utilized in later conversations.
Or such was the hope. In truth, you did not make it to the library, nor even anywhere close. A quarter of the way there you were interrupted by an ever-dreaded noise; buzzing echoed throughout the hallway, first far off, but getting closer with every second. There was a particular ferocity to the vibrations that you knew meant danger was approaching. According to the other maidens, this was a distinction that everyone learned over time, assuming that they survived long enough. The smart thing would have been to duck away into an adjacent room in the hopes that whatever sister it was would ignore you. But your endgame weighed heavy on your mind, then forced your feet to the floor. For better or worse, you would be in the woman’s path, ready for whatever she may ask of you.
“You-” a voice snarled, as a hooded figure phased out of the swarm and into your vision. Her head was held high, eyes narrowed as they stared down at you, a snarl twisting her lips. Of course it was her. Cassandra Dimitrescu. The one daughter you didn’t want to encounter. Inside, part of you writhes in self deprecation, feeling as if you should have known better. How often did the other two buzz about so angrily?... Well, certainly a fair bit, but nowhere near as much as Cassandra. Fuck, you think, I’m probably doomed. “I’m hungry. Come here real quick,” Cassandra demands, beckoning you towards her with a single finger. In another life you would have blushed bright red at the sight. A life where she wasn’t a vampiric monster, that is.
Nonetheless, you are quick to obey, masking your anxiety as best as you can. Doing so gets much harder once your gaze meets Cassandra’s, and you see her lick her lips before smirking at you. As soon as you’re within her reach, she’s surging forward, grabbing you by your shoulders, then pivoting, pressing you hard against the wall. You can’t help but gasp at the sudden movements, which only widens her grin. Before you know it she’s running her tongue along your neck. Once more you gasp, this time softer, hating the way your body urges you to lean into her touch. Why couldn’t she simply get straight to the worst of it? Instead she takes her sweet time, slipping a finger beneath the collar of your shirt, slowly, carefully tugging it to the side. When she finally bites, it is terribly sudden. The pleasure comes before the pain, stronger than you would have expected, eliciting a sharp inhale from you that sounds more satisfied than you had intended. Even as a rush of pain follows, you can’t help the red that tints your cheeks.
“Enjoying this, hmm?” Cassandra asks, after licking away at your blood for a few moments, pulling back but not releasing you. Something in her eyes makes you need to respond.
“Y-yes, more than I’d like to admit,” you mumble, barely able to make eye contact. But she seems pleased by this, gently cupping your chin while she looks you over.
“Well then, if you survive… I might just have to drink from you again,” she whispers, before diving right back in towards your neck. This time her touch is far, far softer than before. It feels more like she’s kissing you rather than drinking from you. A strange, irritatingly familiar feeling springs in the pit of your stomach, and you can’t help but make more of those noises she seemed to enjoy so much. Hell, your eyes drift closed as you take in the surprisingly welcome sensation. When they reopen, however, you give a yelp of surprise, spotting a very awkwardly waiting servant. They were blushing, clearly not having expected to come upon this particular sight. Cassandra perks up at your shock, turning to follow your gaze, then giving an uncharacteristically resigned groan. “Damn it, Ava, is it urgent?” She asks, to which the servant gives a silent shrug. “I’ll be done in a minute. Now, where were we?”
Once more she resumes feeding, casting aside all traces of sweetness, sucking on your wound with reckless abandon. Behind her, Ava gives you a thumbs up before turning away. As embarrassing as the moment felt, you were grateful to xer, glad that xe seemed to recognize your desire for privacy. More than that… if xe hadn’t come along, would Cassandra have remembered to stop before your bloodloss became fatal? There was no guarantee either way. Yet xer intervention felt like a godsend, and you made a mental note to thank xer later. Soon enough Cassandra removes herself from you, pausing only to cup your chin for a moment, meeting your gaze with a smirk. Then she was turning away without another word, following Ava to some unknown destination.
A deep breath, then another, more frantic, the familiar sense of panic growing on the edges of your mind. Now that the feeding was over, you were left trembling with all the fear you had been so adamant about not showing before. How close to death had you come? How close were you now? Only feeling slightly more faint than you had earlier, it felt safe enough to assume you would be fine, if only physically. Inside your mind you were struggling with racing thought after racing thought. How the hell am I supposed to do this with either Bela or Daniela? You think, trying to breathe past the lump in your throat. And why did I have to enjoy that so much? They’re nothing more than means to an end, monsters undeserving of my kindness, of my joy. Your only comfort was the knowledge that this may very well have been the opportunity you had been waiting for; but only if you could shift your aim.

The difference was subtle, almost microscopic, to the point where it took you a full week to notice. But once you had? Everything felt different. You couldn’t spend more than three seconds in the same room as Cassandra without her eyes following you, watching your every move, sending a rush of both fear and excitement down your spine. Meeting her gaze only made her give the tiniest fraction of a smile. As soon as something (or someone) else caught her attention, however, you were forgotten in the blink of an eye. Yet it was nerve wracking nonetheless. This was roughly what you had hoped for, but you had underestimated the mental toll it would take on you. There was no way to tell whether Cassandra wanted violence, something softer, or her usual brand- a cruel mixture of both. Every second spent in her presence was a roll of the dice, a flip of a coin, either one weighted to put the odds against you.
But you persisted. Escape was not a dream, nor a fantasy, nor some far off cryptid. It was inevitable. Again and again you would swallow your fear until you reached your long-sought destination. No matter the cost, you think, no matter the consequences. Over time, that cost, those consequences, would grow. For now, it was a slice of your sanity. Next? More blood, it seemed.
“Casserole wants you to stop by her art studio,” the note said, cursive hand-writing ever-so-fancy and ever-so-difficult to read. Clearly from Ava, the mildly mysterious (but incredibly helpful) castle servant known for never speaking a word. From what you had gathered, xe was a confidant of sorts for the Dimitrescu family, trusted far more than the average worker. Alas, xe was loyal to the center of xer being, and was rumored to be impeccable at preventing escape attempts before they had even started. If you wanted out of this damn place, you knew you’d have to be careful around xer. Hopefully xe won’t interrupt this time, you think, before tucking the note away in your pocket.
Cassandra’s infamous studio wasn’t terribly far from your quarters, thankfully, though you weren’t even sure if you were supposed to arrive at a specific time. What if she wasn’t expecting you until later? Worse, what if she had been expecting you an hour ago? It’s a dangerous thought, one that could easily spiral into something far more drastic, and you try to reassure yourself, reminding yourself that Ava would have mentioned a time if it was important. In the end, you still found your heart racing as you stood outside the room in question. Pausing to take a deep breath, you center yourself, before raising a hand to knock. To your surprise, you get an answer before your hand even gets close to the door.
“Come in already,” Cassandra chimes from inside. Unsure of what terrible fate you were about to meet, you entered the room, somewhat reluctantly. Despite the myriad of unsavory rumors regarding the studio, there were no immediate signs of brutality. At the worst, the space was fairly messy, though not due to any, ahem, “misplaced” body parts. No, just an overflowing garbage bin, a few unfinished projects placed haphazardly wherever they’d fit, shards of glass in one corner, and tile floor splattered with a Pollock-esque layer of paint. In one word? Chaotic. Such was the type of environment that seemed to suit Cassandra best, the sort in which you imagined she would thrive. But you didn’t have time to examine anything as closely as you would have liked to. “Are you going to keep me waiting?”
“No, Lady Cassandra,” you reply, hurriedly, shaking your head to clear your thoughts. Then you’re quickly crossing the room, to what looks like a cross between a storage cabinet and a paint mixing station. In Cassandra’s hands, however, you find something less welcoming than a paintbrush: A needle and an empty blood bag. Well, you think, I guess I know why I’m here. At least there’s only one bag, right? “What do you require of me, my Lady?” While the answer was fairly obvious, you didn’t know the specific steps necessary, and it never hurt to be as polite as possible with the Dimitrescu family.
“Just sit down, roll your sleeves up, look pretty, and stay still. Try not to make any noises this time- as cute as they were last time, I have a headache,” Cassandra explains, gesturing towards the room’s only chair. Ignoring the way your cheeks heated up, you did as she asked, trying to get relatively comfortable. It was somewhat difficult to relax, considering who you were with. “Calm down, pet, I’m only going to hurt you a little. That’s more than I can say for most people who end up here.” Why did she have to use a nickname for you? Weren’t you already flushed enough without her teasing you further? Though your flustering does turn to confusion after a moment, as you wonder how she knew how afraid you were. You were under the impression that you were hiding it fairly well. Noticing your reaction, Cassandra rolls her eyes, before leaning in to whisper in your ear. “I can hear your heartbeat. Normally I’d find this… exciting. But my head hurts and I wanted to finish this damn painting yesterday. So take a deep breath, little pet, and let me take what I need from you.”
Of course she had to say it like that, and put herself so close to you. You’re pretty sure that your heart skips a few beats in response, though Cassandra doesn’t react beyond a hint of a smile, merely returning to her prep work. First step was cleaning your skin. Admittedly you hadn’t been sure if that step was necessary, seeing as the blood was (seemingly) for art as opposed to testing, but it didn’t exactly surprise you. Besides, there was a chance she’d drink the leftovers, right? Next she double-checked that the needle was properly connected to the blood bag, and that the latter was resting securely on a small stand. With that out of the way, it was time for her favorite part.
“Since your heartbeat has slowed down a little… I’ll let you whimper if you want to- but only once. Consider it a reward for good behavior,” Cassandra purrs with a familiar grin. One hand gently cups your chin, while her eyes look right in yours, just long enough to turn your cheeks bright red. The moment ends as quickly as it started. Before you know it she’s turned stoic again, feeling along your arm for a vein. This isn’t the first time you’ve had your blood drawn, but Cassandra takes no time at all to find the perfect spot, likely from a mix of practice and, well, her vampiric nature. It’s not long before she’s gently gripping your arm with one hand, briefly making eye contact before pushing the needle into your skin. Does it hurt? Hardly. Do you take a shaky inhale, hoping to please your employer, the closest to a whimper you were willing to give her? Oh, absolutely. And does she react? Oh, absolutely. Her eyes light up for a second as she bites her lower lip. There’s something else in her expression that you can’t quite read, however.
“Enjoying this, hmm?” You ask, smiling, voice soft in the hopes of not aggravating her headache. It’s a risk, and one that pays off more than you’d ever expect. Cassandra giggles a tad, eying you with the least mischievous smile you’ve ever seen from her. If not for the needle still in your arm, you might have found the moment charming, or even… romantic. But you pushed the thought away as soon as possible, reminding yourself of your one true goal: Escaping. This was a means to an end. Nothing more, nothing less. That’s what you had to keep telling yourself. Even as Cassandra ever-so-gently removed the needle from your arm, even as she carefully placed a bandage over the entry-point, even as she gave you a nod of approval.
“This should last until the painting is done, at the very least. I might need you to make another ‘donation’ next week, though. Except, hmm… your blood is quite nice,” Cassandra says. Her tone is smooth, almost sultry, but her gaze is focused on her work as she starts mixing the blood with… something? You weren’t familiar with this particular artistic process, nor did you want to be. “Maybe I’ll set up a nice schedule for you. Once a month you can be my darling little muse, and once a month you can be a refreshing snack. I’ll even make sure that my sisters don’t do anything that might spoil our fun. Assuming you continue to prove entertaining, that is.” You didn’t know whether to feel relieved or worried. In the end you settled for the former, chest thrumming with excitement as you felt yourself getting one step closer to your goal.

Three months pass by in an easy blur. Just as Cassandra had suggested, you find yourself in her company more often than before. Only twice a month does she take blood from you, for your own safety (which she pretends not to care about), but more and more you find her lounging around where you’re working, obviously by “pure coincidence”. Sometimes she even spoke to you! Teasing here and there, or asking you to do things that she normally did for herself, or scaring you just to hear you make one of your “lovely noises”. Honestly, you weren’t sure whether you were more surprised by how attached she had gotten to you, or by how quickly it had happened. Of course, you didn’t even know if she enjoyed your personality… or just your blood. Either way, you found yourself enjoying her presence more than you’d ever openly admit.
Eventually, when the benefits of your budding “friendship” became more clear, you started to enjoy it even more.
It was early in the morning, right when the castle residents tended to go to sleep, and when the night shift officially ended. Minutes prior you had been conversing quietly with Cassandra, dusting some shelves as you did. Now, with your duties done only slightly later than usual, you were making your way back to your quarters. Along the way you were caught off guard by the sound of distant crying. ‘Twas a sound you’d heard many times before, from many different maidens, but this time felt… different. An odd feeling of sympathy sparked in your chest, and you made the brash decision to approach the source of the noise. When you rounded that last corner, when you made eye contact with the trembling figure, you knew that your kindness could very well be the death of you. To think that you had once hoped for this encounter.
“Who’s there?” Bela Dimitrescu snarls through chattering teeth. She’s moving forward, phasing in and out of swarm mode, reaching a hand out to clutch at your throat. Well, you think, at least she’s stopped crying? More so out of being distracted, instead of feeling any comfort from your company. It’s not a terribly reassuring thought, but it’s soon replaced with a mental string of ???? as Bela pauses, grip loosening as she holds you up in the light. “You’re Cassandra’s new favorite. Damnit!” With that she drops you rather unceremoniously. Then she’s turning her back to you, sniffling before wiping the tears from her eyes. “Don’t tell anyone about this, or I won’t hesitate to string you up, no matter what my sister says. Now get lost.”
Except you can’t force yourself to move. There’s a small piece of you that remembers your original plan, another small part feels a twinge of sympathy, and a majority of your brain sees this as an opportunity. What was a little more risk?
“Would you like me to bring you some tea, Lady Bela?” You ask, attempting to keep your tone neutral, lest she think you were judging her. In response, she turns to look at you slowly, eyes narrowed, thinly veiled rage only outweighed by the remnants of her anxiety. Then she’s stalking forward with cautious, deliberate movements. For a moment she searches your eyes for any hints at your motive. Hoping to ease her worries, you elaborated on your offer, and the reasoning behind it. “I’ve read that holding something warm in your hands, like a mug of tea or coffee, relaxes the brain. I believe it had something to do with mimicking human touch?... Forgive me if I’m overstepping your boundaries, my Lady. I… I felt compelled to ask, to help in whatever way I can.”
“Oh?” Bela hums, the majority of the anger draining from her face. There’s a hint of genuine surprise behind her bright eyes. “Very well, if you say it might… help.” Before you can turn to leave, you hear her clear her throat, and say one last thing. “A little softer than I would have expected from a pet of Cassandra’s.” She certainly had a point. But you don’t bother responding, instead focusing on your self-given task. In the back of your mind, you wonder if you were really Cassandra’s “pet”, or if there was more to your dynamic. Why did you feel so weird about the idea of being a mere “distraction” to her?... Something to think about while you made that tea, you supposed.

When you assisted with serving lunch the next day, Bela refused to make eye contact, even as you set a plate in front of her, or when you refilled her wine glass. There was a stiffness in the room that you weren’t familiar with. For the most part, Cassandra is more welcoming, giving you a small nod when you meet her gaze. By the time the family is done eating and moves to leave, the sisters are grouping together to speak in hushed voices. While you clean up after them, you cannot help but wonder if they’re discussing the previous night, or if Bela was as adamant about keeping quiet as she had seemed. Regardless, you felt rather good about how the conversation had gone. Hopefully she’s feeling better, you think, surprising yourself. Not that it matters… unless she tells Cassandra, I suppose.
You don’t see her for the rest of the day. It’s a double-edged sword, in a way. On one hand, you find yourself missing her, unused to not interacting with her at all. On the other hand? All the sudden you’re realizing just how involved she’s become with you. Certainly that meant something? Progress towards your eventual goal of escaping? God, you sure hoped so. Thinking about the future, about your plans, lasts you the entire night, thoughts following you all the way into bed. Sleep feels a million years away, and you find yourself staring silently at the ceiling. Unmoving. Damn near unblinking. When there’s the sound of footsteps outside your room, you are more than welcome for the distraction.
“Wake up, little pet,” a voice calls, as your door opens, and someone quickly slips inside. Before you can even sit up, you feel them slide into the bed with you. “It’s too cold in my room. You’re much warmer, aren’t you?” Clearly your darling Cassandra come to entertain herself. Considering how late in the day it is, you feel like you should be upset, and yet you feel yourself daring to wrap your arms around her. For a moment she goes stiff, but she soon relaxes into your touch. “You’re getting so good at knowing what I want from you. Mmm, I think I’ve trained you well,” she teases, shifting onto her back so she can pull you onto her chest. Although you’ve been this close to her before, this is the first time you’ve realized just how cold her skin is. No wonder she wants to sleep with me, you think, blushing at your unintentional wording.
“Fuck, you’re freezing,” you mumble, curling up against her nonetheless. She’s laughing then, without any hint of her usual malice, and you can’t help but laugh with her. When had the two of you gotten so warm with each other? Why did it feel so natural? There’s anxiety gnawing at the base of your skull, threatening to build up into a headache, tugging you away from the softness of the moment. If Cassandra notices, she’s quicker to act than you would have expected. It feels safer to believe that her next actions are a coincidence. Feels… better, when you remember that you are playing her for cheap, that any friendliness is a mockery made for the most bitter of betrayals to come.
“That’s why I’m here, dear. Now hush, I need some rest. With how comfortable you are… I may even let you sleep in,” she teases, before pressing the gentlest kiss to the top of your head. Your throat dries up in response, blush overtaking your cheeks, and you are left unable to speak. The thundering of your heart seems to somehow lull your would-be lover to sleep, while you find yourself growing to love the contrast her chill provides. Somehow, someway, you end up sleeping more soundly than you have in years.

Another month passes. No opportunities to escape, no grand moves to make in this 4D game of chess, no clever plans to entangle yourself in. Yet you find yourself content. Happy. The work keeps you as busy as ever, but Cassandra often steals you away for her own desires. When she goes to drink your blood, she does so gently, with many soft kisses leading into the big moment. Afterwards she cleans your wound herself, touches as light as a feather, eyes sparkling with unspoken affection. At night, you find her coming to you for warmth almost every day. At first she provides little more than teasing excuses. But in time, she becomes more open, even being so bold as to kiss you on the lips every time, greeting you with quiet “dear”s and “darling”s. It gets to the poin that you cannot sleep without her presence.
Day after day, you find it harder and harder to remember why you were doing this. Was it so bad to enjoy your time with her? Was it so bad to find yourself leaning into her touches, kissing her back, gleefully awaiting your nightly rendezvous with her? Sometimes the thoughts were overwhelming, guilt and shame alike dancing inside your chest. Those days were the hardest to get through. Somehow, again and again, you go to her for comfort. To the very source of your conflict. Every last feeling was driving you towards an inevitable point. A conclusion written in stone, one that had been decided from the very first time Cassandra dug her fangs into your neck.

Screaming. Horrible, horrible screaming, somehow more pained than that of any maiden you had ever heard, echoing throughout the castle halls, achingly familiar in tone. You had never heard her scream before, and yet you knew that the sound came from Cassandra. Before you can even begin to process your realization, you are thundering through the corridor, towards the noise that rattled your mind so desperately. How could anything possibly hurt her? How often had you seen her push her siblings around, each of them taking hits that could break bones as if they were light shoves? As if the punches tickled? Horror overtakes your thoughts, imagination far worse than reality had any right to be.
When you at last reach your lover, you are frozen in your tracks, eyes wide as can be. There she is, howling with both rage and pain as someone repeatedly slams the butt of a rifle into her head. Behind the fighting duo is a sight you never thought you’d see: An open door. Wide open, enticing, leading straight into the world you had sought to rejoin. You want to leave. God, you want to leave so bad. This is what you have been waiting for- Cassandra has not even seen you yet, too busy grappling with her attacker, movements too slow to be normal. What was wrong? Why were her limbs such a strange color? Was that… frost on her clothes? Or… crystal? Your gaze flickers back and forth between her and the exit, as time seems to pause, memories of the past few months racing through your mind. Goddamnit, you think, this is what I want, isn’t it? Consequences be damned, right? I said I wouldn’t stop for anything.
And so you move, automatically, on autopilot, unable to think about anything other than what you treasured most: Cassandra. One moment you’re standing still in the foyer, the next you’re grabbing a poker from the fireplace. You’ve never done anything like this before, but the movements come naturally, as you surge towards the scrambling pair. In one swift motion you drive the metal rod into the skull of the intruder, hating the sound, hating the splatter of blood against your clothes, hating the feeling of resistance followed by a terrible, terrible give. But the man slumps almost immediately, allowing your girlfriend to shove him off of herself. Still unable to think coherently, you’re throwing yourself into her arms.
“Holy shit, holy shit, oh my god, I- I, fuck. Are you…? Fucking tell me that you’re okay, please,” you ramble, holding the dangerously cold body of your girlfriend close to you, refusing to let go. She’s crying, clinging to you as desperately as you cling to her. But she’s responding in the affirmative. Over and over, saying she’s okay, telling you that it’s okay. Before you know it, she’s the one comforting you.
“Hey, hey, look at me. Okay? Look at me, take a deep breath. If anyone should be freaking out it’s me,” she says, pulling back enough to cup your cheek with one hand. There’s blood on her fingers, making your eyes go wide, but she quickly wipes it off with a scowl. Then she’s caressing your skin again, soft repeating motions perfect for calming you down. “That’s right, see? We’re fine. You’re a fucking badass, darling, and honestly? It’s very attractive.” Now you’re both giggling, you a bit more than her. Because of course she’s flirting right now. It’s an incredible softness. One that you, quite frankly, do not feel you deserve. At first it’s a tiny voice in the back of your head, but it soon grows until it strikes the smile from your lips. “Hey, hey, what’s wrong? Shit, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine, really,” you interject, as fast as you can, ignoring the tears pricking the corners of your eyes. Cassandra isn’t convinced, however, and gives you a pleading look. Knowing that you cannot resist her, you close your eyes, sighing, then admit your wretched truth. “The door. Cassandra, the door’s open. I… I came down the hallway and I saw the two of you and I saw the fucking door and I… I hesitated. I hesitated.” There’s a mighty tremble to your voice, teeth and lips shaking. In the moment, you cannot bring yourself to meet her gaze, eyes instead glued to the bloodstained floor. It’s so quiet that you swear you can hear your tears hitting the tile. The air around you is filled with a looming heartache, a shadow over the two of you, hungry for your tears. But the rage you anticipate from Cassandra never comes.
For fuck’s sake, she pulls you closer. She takes you in her arms, making you rest your head against her chest, one hand gently rubbing circles into your back. Shock makes you unable to do anything other than linger limply in her grip. Thankfully, she has more than enough words for the both of you.
“Of course you did. All you ever wanted was to escape, right? And all I ever wanted was to see how much fun I could get out of you before you betrayed us,” she admits, coolly, as if the words didn’t break both of your hearts. At first, you merely start crying harder, realizing that she had seen through you this whole time. Realizing that all of her softness had just been sharpness covered in sheep’s clothing. Except she’s not done talking. “Now look at us. Couple of idiots who caught feelings. So shut up, because we’re in this mess together, now, and I don’t intend to let you go, understood? You-” she pulls back, looking you right in the eyes- “are mine. Besides… you just killed for me. I think that more than makes up for any hesitance, yeah?” Before you know it you’re kissing her. You’re pressing yourself to her, smiling through your tears, forced to pause to laugh at yourself. How ridiculous had this whole affair been? How had you convinced yourself, for so long, that escape was all you had cared about?...
All this time you thought you wanted out. But at the end of the day… you just wanted to go home. How could you have guessed that you would have found a new home, here, in someone’s arms? Despite the surprise of it all… you couldn’t be happier.

Setting: a world just to the left of 1950's - 1960's Japan technology & aesthetic wise, still not Japan the same way the elemental countries aren't in canon. Particularly a small failing farming community at the base of a mountain.
Hashirama: a young farmer who's recently come back to inherit the family farm after spending time away studying in the city. Wanted to get away from his problems he'd developed (drinking, gambling, feeling miserable, not properly dealing with his adhd and trauma from childhood) and start fresh.
Madara: an old mountain spirit / god that's been scaring humans off of the mountain he guards for hundreds of years. He's raptor based--becomes more human like with positive emotion and monstrous with negative. Pretty deeply hates humans and while he doesn't go out of his way to curse the village near the base of his mountain, certainly isn't going to be blessing them any time soon. Cares for all the animals, preserves the mountain, etc.
Main plot: the village Hashirama moves to is slowly failing as a farming community, and he takes it (half intentionally) upon himself to try and fix that. There's a threat of businesses buying up their land & industrializing the area if they can't keep themselves afloat.
Hashirama does his best to try and help, but no one seems very optimistic. He learns about how there's supposed to be a god at the top of the mountain (or at least a shrine) and he sets his mind to climbing it to pray for the local god's blessing, because, why not? People warn him not to, that the mountain is dangerous and haunted, but Hashirama wont' really hear it since he's made up his mind already.
Cue Madara kind of marveling at the audacity of this human who's trying to climb his mountain, who keeps trying to reach the summit no matter what Madara throws his way. Lets Hashirama reach the top to hear him out and tries to scare the life out of him in person but Hashirama is just respectful and deferent and begs his pardon and mercy and blessing and even brought offerings. Madara tells him he'll humor his request so long as Hashirama makes this same trip to the top of the mountain once a week until the harvest moon. Hashirama is quick to agree and be grateful & Madara tells him to go away more or less.
Scenes: - Madara freaking out & embarrassed because WHY DID HE DO THAT WHY DID HE JUST INVITE THIS HUMAN TO HIS HOME??? HE SHOULD HAVE JUST SAID NO??? FUCK !
- their first meetings are Hashirama climbing the mountain and then Madara just being like congratulations go home now and Hashirama just like can't i like... sit down for a while? jeeze. And Madara like >:C no go away! this happens like 2 times and the third time hashirama just fucking doesn't & tells madara he's being a bad host and Madara does the god equivalent of Pouting And Sulking.
- After that their meetings consist of Madara trying to be casual like I have work to do & it wouldn't do to leave you here come on so Madara is subtly showing Hashirama his home. Lots of beautiful wonderful things, Hashirama in awe and Madara doing his Thing and just... madara liking being able to show off.
- Hashirama one time bringing a cassette player or crank radio and Madara trying really hard not to be obviously enamored by the music and demands hashbrown leave it as his offering & hashi laughs & sees through his bs by now
- The whole time things are steadily getting better in the village. Livestock are producing more and are generally more healthy, the crops are growing better, there's the right amount of rain and sun... Hashirama is really happy, Madara is dealing w/ the fact that he might be experiencing happiness w/ a human.
- They inevitably grow closer. Hashirama helps Madara with some wounded birds, Hashirama stays a night (not in the fun way), they dance... lots of tender moments. Hashirama is v in love and at some point they get a little TOO close and madara loses his damn mind (scared, mostly, upset about something that's kind of clearly not the situation exactly) and p much yells until Hashirama leaves, pretty heart broken.
- Hashirama is devastated the whole week until he has to visit again, doesn't really want to/ he doesn't want to upset Madara / cross boundaries but he did make a promise so he goes. Madara doesn't show up.
- getting very close to the harvest moon, Hashirama's next visit. Madara still doesn't' appear but Hashirama's less upset and is more worried now, goes looking around for Madara.... and finds him, big fucked up monster form, all kinds of beat to hell and hurt. Hashirama spends the next day or more taking care of him even tho Madara at first weakly was snapping at him & stuff. Madara comes to one night while Hashirama was out getting some water or smth, now in human form still bandaged up. They sit outside in the moonlight and Hashirama comments that he didn't think gods could be hurt like that. Madara, around his pipe and mildly like They can when they're fighting with other gods. Hashirama doesn't press but does say he's glad Madara is alright. Madara asks why he came back (why he still helped him) and Hashirama just saying he made a promise to a friend. Madara is very gay. They're quiet a while. Madara offers to pay Hashirama back for helping him (saving him) with a story.
- The story is about the village at the base of the mountain a very, very long time ago. There was a family there with five children and for a time they were happy. But the mother died along with three of the children, leaving only the father and two boys. The father was hard on his remaining sons, because without many hands to work the fields their mouths were burdens to feed. The elder brother took care of the younger as best he could, and even though they were hungry and had very little they found something like happiness again. That was until the village elders caught wind that a neighboring clan was trying to take land on the other side of their mountain, and had decided that they would make a way for no one but their own to prosper there... Someone needed to make a sacrifice. The father of the two boys offered up his youngest son, and while there were older volunteers who had lived their lives fully and were ready to leave the world, the elders chose the youngest brother as the one who would have the honor.
The elder brother begged their father not to allow this, begged his people to take him instead, but no one would listen. When the time for the sacrifice came at the summit of the mountain, the elder brother had decided to take matters into his own hands. With his father's knife he slit his own throat and willed his soul full of rage and pain to linger and attach to the mountain, to take root and destroy those who would harm his little brother before they could.
he was successful-- he had become a monster before they could make his brother one -- but he was too late.
He rid the mountain of the humans and in doing so made a decision to never allow another human to set foot upon his land without suffering for it. And he had successfully done so... for a very, very long time.
- quiet. Hashirama looks at Madara who is not looking at him and understands. He very gently touches Madara's hand and Madara doesn't flinch or pull away. Madara comments that in the end he was a useless brother and now he's become a useless god. Hashirama begs to differ, everything on the mountain flourishes under his care (his love) and.. also... there are people who are grateful for him, too. Madara gently tells him that it's late, and he's tired, and that Hashirama should go home in the morning.
- Hashirama gets Madara to come to the harvest festival (would be the last day / night Hashirama would have to visit. Hashirama insists it counts if he comes to 'pick Madara up'). Madara is ultra hesitant but accepts. it's a gorgeous night, they have a good time, Hashirama coaxes Madara to come home with him...............( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) it's a good time all around.
- The next morning Hashirama wakes up (Madara is still there, sleeping in his bed. it's very surreal) and is extremely startled to see Tobirama in his house. "You should lock your doors, Anija. Anyone could have walked in here while you were asleep." Tobirama is here to pretty much try and bring Hashirama home back to the city, and comes across very certain that it was only a matter of time before Hashirama came back. (Tobirama isn't being cruel, he gave his brother space & was worried about him but he's had his space and he should come back home now, please.) They argue. there's a loud sound like a huge animal is trapped in his bedroom but when Hashirama rushes to check on Madara the window is open and Madara is gone.
- Finale: Hashirama goes back up the mountain facing similar challenges as he did the first time. Madara is obviously upset because he pretty much heard that Hashirama never intended to stay there (with him) and he's gone and made a fool of Madara. Hashirama with difficulty reaches the summit and there's yelling and whatnot and Madara feeling betrayed and Hashirama very desperately trying to get him to understand. Not sure exactly how but there is resolution (a promise and a kiss and a declaration of love perhaps?) and they finally just admit to each other that they love one another and that Hashirama isn't going anywhere.
- Bonus: Hashirama bringing human form Madara back home to a bewildered Tobirama like "Sorry for leaving in such a rush! Tobi this is my boyfriend Madara, we met here and that's why I have to stay."

Okay but what if Tori met Luke much much earlier? Like when he was still on the run with Thalia and Anabeth. Tori going out to buy some sweets and Luke stealing them cause he got 2 girls to feed and Tori being all angry trying to catch him and idk... at the end she didnt catch him and forgets about it. But jokes on Luke, he got the sweets but she got his heart.
someone sent me this ask in forever and a day ago, and i can’t seem to find the original ask :/ which is also probably why i forgot about it -_-;
but i was looking thru my luke/tori misc file on my desktop (in a word file bc i had been planning on writing smth for it and i guess i got caught up in everything else) and found it again!! it was a very sweet surprise lol
so i’m here to remedy my forgetfulness with some hcs and a cute, fluffy drabble for ya’ll
so tori’s 12 and luke’s 13, so she steals his heart in more of a crush/squish the way middle schoolers do way at this point
a yr, maybe a few months before shit hits the fan for tori (and kinda luke since the whole thalia-getting-turned-into-a-tree thing happens ya know)
so let’s say...they’re in nyc proper, and uh luke, thalia, and annabeth are hanging out in one of their forts they built (i wish we knew more abt where they went, bc somehow they ended up all the way in west virginia at some point wow)
and luke goes out to find them food in the big city since it’s a great place to pickpocket ppl
tori, diana, and dan are out abt the town getting some mexican sweet bread as a special treat for dan getting cast lead role in his middle school play
as well as some sugary treats for tori for working hard to get her grades up (what with her dyslexia and adhd and all)
and diana lets tori carry the bag--one of those, “please let me carry the bag bc it makes me feel all grown-up and responsible” kind of things
so they’re walking down the busy streets, diana’s got both her hands in one of tori’s and one of dan’s
luke spotted them as they were exiting the baker, and see the bag tori’s holding and thinks that it’s too easy
but he’s hungry, thalia and annabeth are hungry and counting on him. instead of pickpocketing someone for their wallet and buying food (which would take too long and his stomach feels like its collapsing in on itself, so that would make concentrating hard) he decides to take an easier route
so he makes his way around them, jumping in and out of side-streets and alleys so he can get in front of them and approach from the front for easier grabbing and going
when his chance comes, he begins briskly walking, almost a jog, almost a run toward three williams, aiming for tori’s bag
he bumps her shoulder pretty hard, while making a grab for the bag
tori exclaims, “hey” and glares at him
dianan pulls tori more toward her
and luke realizes tori has a stronger grip on the bag than he thought
but he’s already a few inches away, still pulling at the bag and when tori realize’s what’s happened, her eyes widen in shock
luke takes advantage of that moment and yanks the bag from her fingers before turning and booking it
since it’s new york no one really cares abt the kid running down the sidewalk, clutching a bag to his chest like a football player
he hears a woman’s voice call out “tori!” in a panic and luke glances back to see the girl following him, running at full speed toward him, her brown eyes blazing with determination
that’s never happened before, not with a kid as young as tori
kids always screamed or cried and stayed with their parent(s) as he took off and disappeared
luke faces forward, pushing himself as hard as he can without overdoing it since he is kinda starving
but bc he’s malnourished and starving, every breath is like razor-blades in a lungs, and his visions starts to go a little fuzzy
he’s pretty sure he can hear tori’s footsteps behind him and when he glances back again, she’s gained on him
behind her are her mom and dan
desperately trying to focus, he faces forward again and calls upon the city’s map mentally and makes a route of escape
he swerves into an alley with a fence blocking off the other side, but luke doesn’t even hesitate, he throws the bag over mid-run and launches himself up onto the fence and easily scales it
tori turns into the alleyway just as he lands and picks the bag up
“give those back! they’re not yours!” she yells, going forward and grabbing the fence
at first luke thinks she’s just going to glare at him and shake the fence--many ppl have done that
but his jaw drops a little when she begins climbing it
in all the yrs he’s been on the run, this had to be the weirdest thing he’d ever seen, and that included the monsters he’d encountered
here was this tiny girl with blond pigtails, in a dress her grandma probably made for her, and mary janes scaling a fence in a nyc alley
more footsteps sound at the end of the alley, the side that tori’s on, and luke quickly darts behind a dumpster, crouching and clutching the bag to his chest
his knees are weak, and his vision now has spots, so he needs this break
he only hopes that those footsteps signaled the girl’s, tori’s, mom
and he lets out a sigh of relief when he hears, “tori”
diana is standing a few feet from the fence that tori has almost just scaled
dan is behind her, a “you’re in trouble” smirk on his face
“mom he stole our treats! i worked hard for that candy!”
“he’s not here, tori. please get down, i don’t want you to get hurt”
“he’s right there mom! behind that dumpster, let me just--”
“Victoria Anna Williams”
tori lets out a heavy sigh and begins to climb back down the fence
meanwhile, luke mouths her full name, picturing her climbing the fence. it suits her and he finds he really likes her name
“we’ll go buy some more. sometimes that happens.”
diana takes tori’s hand and squeezes, kneeling down and wiping some sweat from tori’s forehead
“please don’t run off like that again, you had mommy really worried”
“i won’t, i’m sorry.”
diana takes their hands again and they head back to the bakery
luke waits a few minutes just in case before heading back to thalia and annabeth
“wow, you got bread this time! who’d you steal it from?”
luke shrugs, “just some girl. wasn’t holding on to it very well”
“you’re face is red” thalia points out when she looks up from digging through the bag
luke starts. “is it?” he was thinking abt that girl, victoria. tori
“...yeah” thalia’s tone is like, “you think i’m lying?f”
“well i did just run a lot”
“you weren’t red before” annabeth points out helpfully
“look, i got the food okay and i’m starved, so lets dig in”
thalia and annabeth brush it off bc they’re also hungry, but while they eat all luke can think abt is looking back and seeing that girl chase him
and until they meet again, he can’t get her out of his head
fast-forward: luke’s been at camp now for abt a month or so when tori shows up again
and when he first sees her, his heart stops before doing a little somersault and he thinks, “it’s her. it’s the girl. tori.”
but he can also see she looks pretty despondent and so restrains himself from going up to her
besides what would he say, “hey i’m the kid who stole the bread and candy from you, but i haven’t been able to stop thinking abt you since bc i think i have a crush on you?” yeah. right.
besides it doesn’t even seem like she remembers him or that incident, which is kinda embarrassing bc he can’t stop thinking abt it
like in my og story, itps, they have that test to see what skill they’re good at, go into the forest to fight monsters, have more skilled campers watch over them
luke is so busy thinking abt how he could introduce himself without compeltely embarrassing himself when he realizes that tori’s in danger
he goes to her rescue, kills the hellhound, leans over her and helps her cover her wound before yelling for medic feeling insanely guilty abt everything
then he looks down at her and her eyes widen in recognition and she gasps, exclaiming, “it’s you!” before passing out
and now for the drabble :D fast-forward many yrs, they’re both alive, mid-twenties, and living together in nyc
Tori couldn’t sleep. She rolled over, reaching for Luke, but his side of the bed was empty. Still warm, though, so he’d just gotten up.
She glanced at the clock: 3am. Frowning, she sat up, throwing her legs off the side of the bed.
What in the world could he be doing at 3am?
She stood and shuffled out into the living room, which was right next to the kitchen, only separated by a breakfast bar. The lights are on and Luke is in the kitchen. Tori can see ingredients for Mexican sweet bread spread out on the table. Luke’s looking so intently at a cookbook that he doesn’t notice Tori enter the kitchen.
She wraps her arms around his waist and presses her nose into his back, inhaling his comforting scent before pulling back and resting her cheek against his spine. Luke rests his hands on hers.
“I wanted this to be a surprise.” She can hear the pout in his voice and giggles.
“Why are you making bread at three in the morning, Sticky Fingers?” she asks.
Luke sighs and turns to face her. “I wish you wouldn’t call me that.”
Tori keeps her arms wrapped around his waist, resting her chin against his chest so she can look up at him.
“Tell me to stop and I will.”
Luke presses his lips together, his eyes narrowing, but he says nothing. They’ve had the same conversation a million times before. When she woke up from that hellhound attack, Luke was there, wanting to apologize as soon as possible. She had remembered him and what he’d done, and from then on, his new nickname was Sticky Fingers.
That was also the day he came up with her nickname.
“What are you doing up, SweeTart?”
Tori groans and presses her forehead against his chest, hiding her face. “I told you, it was a phase!”
The bag hadn’t just been filled with bread, it’d also been filled with boxes of SweeTarts. A lot of them.
Luke chuckles and runs his fingers through his hair. He knows she’s joking. Much like how he jokes about his nickname.
“Go back to bed,” he murmurs. “I’ll bring you some warm milk.”
Tori is silent for a while before mumbling, “With honey.”
“Of course.”
Sighing, Tori finally lets go of Luke and pulls back. They lean in for a kiss before Tori shuffles back into the bedroom as Luke pulls out a small pan to heat the milk and mix the honey.
And as that’s heating up, he turns back to the bread. It was for their anniversary--not when they’d officially decided to go steady, but the day that he’d stolen bread from her and she’d stolen his heart.
blegh, i definitely changed tenses bc the way i write hcs and the way i write-write are two completely different styles and tenses, but i wrote the drabble immediately after i wrote the hcs and i’m tired, so switching back was a challenge. one i did not win this time around
it’s also a lil rough around the edges, but this was just a fun little, impulsive thing i wanted to do. i love me some fluff b/t my bbys, and i’m not...too terribly busy??? quite yet
so i figured this was a good opportunity to unwind a lil bit and write some fun stuff involving my two faves

IT (1986)
What is it about? The Losers Club, a group of 7 kids that in different ways are outsiders among the other children in the little town of Derry must come back 27 years after defeating their worst fears embodied in a evil alien entity that has preyed on this small Maine town and its recidents since the dawn of time. Thoughts: - I have read this book a gazillion times and it’s my favorite Stephen King book of all time (though that may change once I finish this challenge, but only time will tell) everytime I read through its pages is like reuniting with an old dear friend, because most of the characters (read: the Losers Club) are just that for me, I read this book for the first time when I was 15 after growing up with the 90’s miniseries, and I loved it, that feeling hasn’t changed with the years and well I want to elaborate a bit on what I love about this book. - Derry’s history: One of the reasons this book is so damn big is that it delves on the history of this little town called Derry, of course this is to help the reader understand just for how long and how big is IT’s influence on the town, but I just found it so fascinating, I’ve always loved history, and this book just reaaaally fullfiled my needs in that aspect, the town’s history is full of gruesome events but it’s very intresting and through all the same. -Loser’s Club: I love this kids, we are introduced to them little by little through different POV’s and god, I just really like the diversity and complexity in them: a kid with a stutter, an asthmatic that is really a kid heavily manipulated by his overprotective mother, an overweight, a jewish with OCD, a girl victim of physical/emotional parental abuse, the class clown that most likely has ADHD, the only black boy in town… And what I love the most is that they are NOT defined by that, sure,that is how the world sees them but they are so much more than that and together they find their true identities: Stuttering Bill be comes the Leader, Asthmatic Eddie becomes the Compass, Fat Ben becomes the Constructor, Jewish Stan becomes the Logic, Poor Beverly becomes the Shooter, Trashmouth Richie becomes the Weapon (his voces physically hurt IT), Black Mike becomes the Historian. As well as the belonging and friendship they had never had before, their relationship is strong and beautiful, as a reader you will most often find some of yourself in them and even if you don’t you love them all the same for their flaws and virtues. -IT: I read somewhere that a story is only as great as its villian and in IT’s case that I think is only fitting, thus my love for is evil entity, because IT is really a big represantation of violence not necessarily(The Bradley Gang Shooting was afterall motivated by the Derry townsfolk rightgeousness) but mostly evil, IT transforms into awfull gruesome monsters yet his most terrifying act is the influence it helds on the people inhabiting Derry, on taking the violent nature of some people (Derry’s White Decency League, Eddie Corcoran stepfather’s, Alvin Marsh, Butch and Henry Bowers…) and exploit it for its own gain, IT is scary for it’s power, for the fact that one can really comprehend it’s magitude, and when we finally get to get inside it’s head we find something more akin to a beast, hungry and vengeful, he had turned lazy because he already had in Derry a comfortable feeding place and now wants to kill the Loser’s Club because for the first time in its long existance IT feels fear! and how wonderful is that? a group of scared isolated kids find strenght in each other to rid their Town and follow kids of this entity, even if they are afraid themselves, and they succeed in frightening a creature that literally feeds of fear. -The portrayal of the timelines and gruesome subjects: The 1950 are not usted only for aesthetics or praised as the “good old times” King shows a very gritty reality showcasing the racism (very prominent in Mike’s storyline), sexism, homophobia, domestic violence, anti-semitism,and it goes further yet showing that 27 years later these things haven’t changed and IT uses them for it’s benefit. The book doesn’t shy away from any of these things and often it is very hard to read through them but as well I think is important to read them to gain concience,they are not presented as good or romantiziced in any from or way, nor should they ever be (dude the anti-semitism in Patricia Uris’s POV is something that will open your eyes in many ways if you are not jewish, and the Black Spot story will horrify you but also help you understand it was not only the South of USA and the KKK that spread hate and horror for PoC people) this things are meant to horrify you thus I feel it would be a disservice not to read them (though I can understand if anyone simply can’t). -The bittersweet ending: Really heart breaking that after reuniting with the people they could really be themselves with the Loser’s Club are meant to not remember each other ( SPOILERS AHEAD DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANNA SPOIL PART OF THE ENDING OF THE BOOK: as a side note and I do not mean this as hate to the ship or anything but a real doubt I have can anyone explain to me why is everyone saying/asuming Ben and Beverly did end up together?, I mean going by the 90’s miniseries sure, but in the book Mike only says she is going to Nebraska with Ben and then back to Chicago with Kay and that he thinks they are/will be having sex, but also later we find that even if they are in the same Town Mike and Bill have begun to forget each other and it’s heavily implied the same will happen with them all? and that is a very Stephen King thing to do I mean most of the book couples I’ve read from him have similar bittersweet endings so… Pls someone explain) I just always about cry about the End and you know the THING that happens with two of the losers. But also I am a ho for this kind of bittersweet stuff so of course I love it. -Richie and Beverly’s friendship: Listen I LIVE for them, of course I just about adore every Loser’s friendship (Bill/Eddie, Richie/Stan, Richie/Eddie, Richie/Bill, Mike/Ben, Stan/Bev duuuude everyone is amazing) but this two just about make me crazy about them, tbh I kinda lowkey ship them in a platonic kinda way, and I was endlessly frustrated by the lack of scenes between them in the 90’s miniseries after I read the book cuz booooy, the yo-yo scene is so goddamned amazing, Richie being the first POV in which Bev is mentioned and he reminds her through the lyric of a song, his Humphrey Bogart voice he does when speaking with her, how much he respects her, also Miss Sca'lett!!!, not to mention that sweet ass scene they have in the book “22/11/63” where Bev is teaching Richie how to swing for a school talent show, ahhhh Imma stop right there cuz I am fangirling waaaay to much and probably y'all think I am wierd for liking such an unpopular thing. -There is just one thing I always felt was completely unecessary to add and was gross to read (you already know what I am talking about and if not I’m not gonna spoil you/gross you out), I have read of course why SK did it but I still think he should have looked for another way to make the Losers enter adulthood : / Movie/TV Adaptations: There are 2: The ABC’s 1990 miniseries “IT” and the 2017 movie by Andy Muschietti “IT (chapter 1)” of course it has been already confirmed there is going to be another movie for the Second part but I will not to go too much into it now. 1990: The opinions on this one are very polarized, some love it with a passion, some hate it… I actually love it, and by that I do not mean is a perfect adaptation, but it was such an integral part of my childhood and family life that it would be impossible for me to hate it, and I feel most people are terribly unfair with it, because it is not a Bad adaptation like let’s say Kubrick’s Shining (yaa I’m going there) it had a lot of limitations in budget and technology and still managed to capture some of the best parts of the book (the Loser’s friendship mainly, it was beautiful) of course it wasn’t gorey or violent but in it’s time it was scary as hell, which beings me to Tim Curry’s performance as Pennywise that became so iconic people automatically recognize the clown’s design, for fuck’s sake Pennywise became one of the most iconic monsters of that time and terrorized an entire generation of kids and adults alike, of course it has it’s faults (the adult’s part wasn’t great, tho the scene with Bev in Mrs. Kersh house was great, and the ending was bound to be confusing af to people that didn’t read the book) but overall it was a good atempt and it already has a place in pop culture and the hearts of many horror fans. 2017: Oh boy I was really looking forward to this one since they anounced it was going to be a thing (ahhh remember the time Will Poulter and Cary Fukunaga were our only hope?) and just had the chance to see it today, because a lot of awful things happened in my country (I am mexican btw) and yeah, so I left the theater with a very pleasant sensation IT 2017 is a great movie and I LOVED it, the acting was GREAT everyone did amazing, Georgie’s death scene was simply amazing and so sad, the projector scene was wow, lots of winks to book readers like the turtle and Eddie Corcoran’s missing pamphlet, Bev’s bathroom scene, the rock fight!!!,Eddie changing Loser to Lover is iconic, some of Richie’s one-liners were amazing, Pennywise dance pfffftt, Ben was adorable with his crush and love of New Kids on the Block, the Losers,“they’re Gazebos they’re bullshit!” iconic, mainly I feel it captured the general feeling of the book however that does not mean I didn’t had some issues with it as well, first thing that bothered me a LOT is the treatment to Mike Hanlon, excuse the fuck out of me but no, they took his thing (history of Derry) and gave it to Ben (also Ben not constructing things like ??? Could have been a perfect chance to have him build lego stuff but k) where is my beautiful spring loving child?? I just couldn’t find any single trait on his character apart from the wierd sheep thing and his parents, which takes me to another issue why is every adult on Derry so shitty? Like yeah there was a lot of shady awful stuff in the book but there were also ok people namely Mrs. Starret (the librarian, that is so unnecesarily creppy? Wierd? In the movie), Richie’s parents (his dad is hillarious), Mike’s parents they are the best tbh, Mr Keene (ok this one is a sarcastic asshole but he did try to help Eddie instead of letting him keep on believing he was sick to keep selling stuff, and also was never a wierd pervert), Mr. Nell (dude I would have killed to hear Richie doing the Irish Cop voice), the Tracker Brothers (boy Eddie looking longingly at the baseball diamond would have been 10/10, my boy loved sports)… thing is the Losers did love Derry and some parts of their childhood in it and that’s were the nostalgia hits on part two, Stan well I loved they delved more onto his jewishness (a thing not much touched in the book because Stan’s family is not very strictly religious) but was very side lined as well ( in my opinion that part about Richie being scared shitless and Bill punches him would have fit Stan better, also almost all of the Losers got closure (Bev rebelled against her father, Ben kissed Beverly and she got to find out he was the one who wrote the haiku, Bill got to talk with Georgie kind of?, Mike stepped up against Henry, Eddie confronted his mother,Richie let go of his fear to kill the fucking clown…) yet Stan doesn’t I just think it would have been nice to have him iniciate the pact as he did on the book and also his bird book????, the slut shaming and over sexualization of Beverly (I won’t even go into how much it broke my heart to see/hear Richie saying all that stuff about her like no, he respected her a lot thx) just why change the white trash problem to a slut shaming thing???(also while his dad did not beat her in this movie he was so much more GROSS than in the 90’s) I am however not bothered by the ‘Kiss of Life’ trope nor do I think she was reduced to a damsel in distress if anything she was the bravest of them all, also some things not really bothered me but made me wonder what will happen in Chapter 2 namely wft is gonna happen with Henry is he alive?? Same for Bev’s dad what happened there? Is he alive? Is he dead? Though of course we will get answers in chapter 2 I was just like wow how is this gonna pan out. Basically an amazing movie I was not disappointed at all and I would love to watch it again but as an adaptation I think I would still love to see a longish miniseries covering more of Derry’s history and the kid’s personalities/misadventures (of course I do not want THAT scene to be in any adaptation ever) but generally covering more book stuff. but hey all this is just my humble opinion and I admit I adore the book, though I am not closed off to changes just those things kinda made me go hmmmmmm…. He had dropped his eyes, retreating from her amused glance, and realized now that her skirt had ridden up a bit when she shifted forward to drop the ice-cream cone in the litter barrel, and he could see her knees. He raised his eyes but that was no help; now he was looking at the beginning swells of her bosoms. Richie, as he usually did in such moments of confusion, took refuge in absurdity. 'Yes! A date!’ he screamed, throwing himself on his knees before her and holding his clasped hands up. 'Please come! Please come! I shall ruddy kill meself if you say no, ay-wot? Wot-wot?’ 'Oh, Richie, you’re such a fuzzbrain,’ she said, giggling again … but weren’t her cheeks also a trifle flushed? If so, it made her look prettier than ever. 'Get up before you get arrested.’“
