Day 7 - absolutely wiped from drawing all week. So sleepy. Sketches is all you’re getting friends.
I guess I’d define this as… the amount of life in the panels? Silly cute stuff happening in the background that makes me want to read each panel as closely as I can. The fucking love for these little goobers that goes into every panel. It’s something I don’t see a lot and it just makes me love the series all the more
Ough this was so much fun, hope I’m still around to it next year :3
Undead unluck has been such a positive effect on my life, thank you so much tozuka

No one reminded me like I asked, but I remembered on my own: kissing is explicitly a symbol of death in Undead Unluck
Every kiss is either followed by a fatality or a would-be fatal incident if Andy weren't the target
Fuuko kisses her parents -> 200+ dead in a plane explosion
Fuuko kisses Andy on the cheek -> meteor destroys hospital, killing eye-scar guy
Andy kisses Gina -> Gina dies of laser wounds
Andy kisses Fuuko when she frees him from Victor -> meteor shower destroys all of Longing
Fuuko kisses Andy while trying to stop Billy's escape -> Andy not only gets beheaded, but gets gored by the Unbreakable Pile Cannon and near-fatally wounds Burn
Fuuko kisses Andy during the fight with Victor -> Andy's Unluck Bullets hit Victor with multiple would-be fatal incidents
Andy kisses Fuuko after the fight with Victor -> the entirety of Andy's story closes on him, technically killing him
Fuuko kisses Spring -> Spring loses the dice roll and dies
Latla kisses Rip -> both of them die from their wounds fighting Andy
I cannot think of a single kiss that didn't immediately precede a death, which means that the very concept of kissing is meant to be associated with death
If I had to guess, I would say that this is because kissing is a method of saying goodbye, so characters really only get to use this ultimate expression of affection as a way to say goodbye. It just happens that Andy gets to come back after saying goodbye; death is inherently impermanent for him, so a kiss goodbye won't be permanent either, but for everyone else, it's very final
To make up for the fact that Andy gets to survive, though, kiss-based Unluck attacks are always the finale of the fight, the greatest moment of emotion and tension
In fact, this is why kissing so rarely comes up in romance anyway; the moment that a couple kisses is usually the climax of the story, the moment we've all been waiting for, the payoff to the romantic tension after however many dozens or even hundreds of chapters/episodes/etc.
So here's the real question: what will be the circumstances of the final kiss of the series? When Fuuko kisses Andy for the final time, after he is presumably no longer Undead, will it be when his dream of dying is finally fulfilled and he finally passes on with a smile surrounded by all of his loved ones? Or will it be when he's decided that death is no longer his dream, and rather than at the end of his life, this kiss will be at the end of his suffering and the beginning of the life he's always wanted?
Either way, it's definitely gonna make me cry

Undead Unluck Week Day 5: Favorite Arc
I had a lot of trouble with this one, cause there are so many UU arcs I adore. But if I had to pick one, it'd have to be
Tumblr media
The Spring arc. It just has so many excellent moments
It's the first time Fuuko and Andy are apart for an extended period of time, which gives us cunning planner Fuuko and Andy staying up for three days waiting for her to reach them, plus both Andy and Fuuko realizing and accepting that they're in love with each other
It has Top's backstory, Chikara development, Haruka presentation + backstory + development, Yusai's first proper appearance, the excellent Andy vs Billy fight, Andy trolling Rip, Latla drinking from a giant ass bottle of sake with Bunny's help, and of course, the main dish:
Fuuko versus Spring is such a beautiful fight. It puts Fuuko front and center as a strategist, gives us the reveal of a phase three, and ends with the most bittersweet finale one could possibly think of. Truly an amazing arc

Uhh here’s a list of my favorite men in order from undead unluck I guess
Spoilers ahead or something
(Billy and tella have been omitted because I’m not a homewrecker like that)
1. Void volks
I know controversial opinion but my number one is not Andrew the undead, I just think void is really really hot and as the sluttyness ranker person put it Andrew is oversaturating his nudity, void’s tendency to be shirtless is hot to me or something. I like his hair and muscles too (duh)
Honorable mentions!!
Burn any phase and spoil phase one are both really hot but unfortunately it’s a Billy tella homewrecker thing except they’re not actually in a relationship just yet so it wouldn’t technically be homewrecking but they’d be happier with each other than me. I also don’t wanna burn to death and/or get turned into a zombie mid sex so yeah.
2. Spring
Spring my beloved <<<3333 only reason why he’s not number one is that he is a UMA and I don’t want god to take over his body to kill me because I feel like that would make spring really sad (I mean I would die too but I’m more worried about springs happiness) I also feel like spring, being a UMA is in general unattainable. I feel like there’s a 75% of me turning into a cherry blossom tree and I’m not really into that the adventure zone bury your gays ass shit.
3. Creed
Woah hit famous tumblr user GavinDNA Andy isn’t even in your top three or honorable mentions?? How could you?? I apologize but creed is just very hot to me. As king cope on the UUcord put it I feel like undecrease could be VERY fun in bed. He’s also really big and I find that hot + scars are awesome
4. Sean (100th loop)
Controversial to put Sean (especially first loop version) above Andrew I know but like. The third eye kinda does things for me. I feel like some very fun consensual stuff could be done with unseen and I’m down for it
Honorable mentions!! (This time of humans lmfao)
Victor, Nico, Feng, enjin, and shen are all way too in love with their wives (except for feng, who’s way too obsessed with Fuuko to acknowledge my existence(yes I am counting ramen as enjin’s wife)) and are therefore all way too unattainable. If they weren’t Nico would probably go between Sean and creed, victor would go between spring and void, 100th loop feng would go between spring and creed, and 101st loop feng wouldn’t go anywhere because we’re both bottoms and it would just be an embarrassing experience for all involved. Shen wouldn’t go anywhere either because I don’t think there’s a universe where he and mui aren’t in love and I really don’t want mui to kill me. I just don’t really dig enjin so he’s not going anywhere.
All I’m gonna say about the hypothetical placements is that apparently old men are IN this season.
5. Andy
Buff, hung, hot, great personality, prone to risk, what more could a girl want?? I could maybe hypothetically date him before he and Fuuko meet but after I have absolutely no chance, like, at all. Once again I love his hairstyle and his scar is hot. For some reason the card just sticking out of his forehead does something to me too, and the way his left eye is always slightly more closed than his right eye… ough.
6. Hair down Andy
Just Andy with a slightly worse hairstyle. Still a good hair style and still hot, I just don’t really like how it hides his scar.
(Dis)honorable mentions
Rip is unattainable because he won’t let himself get over leila even though leila tried to get him and Latla together, just an ick of a guy. Also his eyepatch is HIDEOUS and you guys don’t talk about that fact enough
Ruin is for sure into some freaky shit and I’m not gonna kink shame him as long as it’s all consensual and nobody gets hurt but I just don’t dig that. There’s also the fact that he’s 1.) probably gonna be like “I’ve devoted my body to god, die” If you ask to hit that, and 2.) he’s almost definitely a bottom so it would just be awkward for the two of us. He cute tho, I dig the hair and tats

Undead Unluck ch.178 thoughts
[Legs for Days]
(Contents: Rip and Latla analysis, Sick/general UMA analysis)
...Wait, can't Rip turn off Unrepair? He cut Sean's gut open last loop AND implanted a third eye on him, and he explicitly told him that he could deactivate Unrepair to save him if he joined Under. So...there's no reason he can't operate on Leila in this loop! He just needs to learn how to turn it off first, I imagine, since obviously he killed Leila before when he didn't know he even had a power
Huh...I hope that revelation doesn't diminish the weight of any of the scenes to come
It certainly doesn't take anything away from the climax of this week's chapter: Rip AND Latla using Blade Runner in tandem! I knew Tozuka would find a way to make forcing Rip to use it again make sense without completely contradicting Latla's wish for Rip not to do so, but I never saw this coming! This is a really nice middle ground between Latla's statements last loop; "I don't want to see you wearing these dangerous things" and "Don't hog the spotlight, Rip, if it means saving Leila, I'll do whatever it takes, too"
Latla's issue with Rip's behavior wasn't just that he was self-destructive, but that he was leaving her behind while he did so, never allowing her to share any of the burden. By cutting off his legs and replacing them with Blade Runner, Rip walked onward without Latla, forcing her to always be trailing behind him. Now, though, they've taken that step together and will be walking side-by-side until they achieve their shared goal
Now, I do imagine that this will make using Blade Runner more difficult. Certain blade shapes may be more difficult to produce via coordinating between two users, and the flight ability may be harder to use since it won't be as easy to balance, but there are bound to be advantages too. For one, they don't have to be attached at the hip, so Rip and Latla could potentially do pincer attacks while also having more flexibility to make less conventional blade shapes. More importantly, this forces Latla to be on the battlefield more directly, so her prediction ability will likely come more into play like when Rip used her to create a scatter attack in the pre-Spring fight
I'll save any further discussion of Blade Runner for next week once we see it in action, though. I'm sure I'll have a lot to say about it
For now, I want to talk about Sick for a bit. Aside from Clothy, I think he might be the most endearing UMA thus far on the basis that he's shockingly human. Not only is he the single most human-shaped UMA we've ever met (Seal being a close second), he's also got a pretty well-defined personality. Not only was seeing him getting mopey over being ignored a novel reaction among the UMA, he also is one of only two UMA that we've met that's taken a direct interest in human culture, the other being Spring. Where Spring loved games, Sick loves music, and both wear human clothes
I wonder if perhaps this is meant to signify that they don't have the total disdain for humanity that God wants them to, with clothes acting as a symbol affinity with humans? That would certainly explain why Clothy was so easily endeared to Andy and Fuuko; as the clothes they wear, he is literally the closest UMA to humanity, so when other UMA follow that Rule that shouldn't apply to them, they also become closer to being human
Sick also says that he's the only Rule to make the world turn beautifully, which is clearly false considering that he's number 10 of the Master Rules, but that's also pretty reminiscent of Spoil's mentality. Spoil claimed that the world was ugly before he came into being, and that it's thanks to him that humans stopped taking their lives for granted
I think it's fair to say that every UMA views their Rule as necessary and beautiful, but it's really interesting that two Rules pertaining to death have explicitly called their abilities beautiful and noted how they help humanity survive. Sick is necessary for population control, and Spoil is necessary for both the nutrient cycle and for helping humanity appreciate what they have. It's ironic, then, that both of them have those viewpoints while having been ordered by God to make humanity suffer. Yes, they enjoy the sounds of agony and the sight of rotten bodies, but that's just them reveling in the negative aspects of their Rules because that's what God wants them to do; if it weren't for that order, how would they feel about the suffering of humanity? Would they be neutral to it, as a necessary step in regulating the Rules that allow humans to find meaning in their continued existance? Would it be like a human caring for a garden, tenderly caring for the plants that survive by preening those that don't? Would they have resigned acceptance of the death they cause, mourning the dead as an unfortunate side effect?
I think that's the case, given Spring's tears at the revelation that there were humans who could accept him in the end
Something I've always wondered was what would happen to the UMA once God is defeated. The Earth and humanity will remain in the end; people will still be able to live and die as they choose, allowed to make their own mistakes and seal their own fates without the aid or interference of the Gods, but will the UMA themselves all be killed with their Rules left behind with no one to oversee them? It's become abundantly clear that while they aren't human, the UMA are people too, crafted in God's image just as humanity was. In a sense, I suppose the UMA are a sort of angel, which now that I think about it is a perfectly apt comparison since we first met Spoil disguised as an angel statue
Will it be fair to them to cull the UMA as monsters when the truth is what they really want by their nature is to shape the world for the better? They hate humans because of how God nurtured them, but they want to create something beautiful, and it's quite clear to me that, if you ignore their devotion to a cruel master, they've actually done exactly that. The world is a fascinating and beautiful place, ever-changing and spurring its people to grow, and as Fuuko says herself, the Rules aren't really punishments, they're just something that bad people can take advantage of like anything else. The goal shouldn't be to kill off and destroy the Rules, but to craft the Rules in such a way that they benefit people instead of oppressing them
Look at that, once again Undead Unluck has me worrying about the wellbeing of the enemies, but this time it's about the monsters rather than the people. Just another thing that cements UU as one of my favorite series; I never really cared about what would happen to the Hollows in Bleach or the Akuma in D.Gray-Man, but I honestly really do hope that the UMA get just as happy an ending here as the Negators
