Next time someone groups Spain and France together I’ll fling myself off a building
#at least when it comes to contemporary history#after the Spanish civil war 500k Spaniards fled to France#and the French government ✨put them in concentration camps✨#then they started forcing them to come back to Spain where Franco would likely ✨put them in concentration camps✨#and when the ww2 reached France the French government forced thousands of the Spanish they’d put in concentration camp (and also spread#rumours about because apparently we were some kind of wild uncivilised tribe) to work for them aka they kinda enslaved them#the ones that weren’t working for france were fighting for them <3#and when the nazis reached France and took the soldiers prisoners#the French government pretty much ✨sold the Spanish to the nazis so they could be put in concentration camp✨#500k Spaniards first reached France and only 9k lived long enough to be sold into concentration camps#the rest had either died or been deported to Spain (where they were probably killed)#the French government were pretty much responsible for the death of almost half a million people#and I’m talking about the French government because random French people weren’t responsible for this#it wasn’t their fault that they’re government fed them racist bullshit#and I’m saying racist because idc who#might get angry with me Spain wasn’t perceived a white country for a good chunk of the 19th and 20th centuries many Europeans thought#that Africa started after the Pyrenees
