a lot of people called the closer, sometimes quasi-paternal bond shown between raven and sinclair a retcon and it's... okay it's true, but it's not, but it is. basically, no there wasn't really anything pointing to that in season 1, to my memory, and even in season 2 it could be called a stretch. but at the same time there's nothing in them that contradict that reading (in storytelling, we're supposed to feel in the blanks!).

the reason why it feels like it's a (soft) retcon is because the progression of the dynamic from season 1 onwards obeys a dramatic change in how the writers involved wanted to portray raven. in season 1 her motherless status, and all the mentions about how her alcoholic mother didn't take good care of her, were a way to keep the character as "lesser" vis a vis clarke, as a twisted mirror of all that abby was willing to do for her own daughter in contrast. just like the traingle with finn, it was meant to elevate clarke's character status at the cost of keeping raven on her knees.

but season after season, that stopped being a priority, or even a consideration. and one thing that writers tend to do (though not always) when they love a character for themselves and want them to look good, is give them the gift of parental approval. raven didn't have any biological parents left (whoever her father was, we have no clue, and given what we know about her mother, it could've been some sleaze), but they wanted her to have that in some way, which is in direct opposition of their desires for her in season 1.

sinclair could easily be shaped to become that figure, through their professional relationship. he becomes someone who put his faith in her and advocated to break the rules for her when her physical revealed a heart defect that would've vetoed from space walks, who encourages to be her very best and thinks the world of her, who dies trying to protect her. and so in season 4, he's the person who's raven mind conjures to represent her will to live. and it's so beautiful.

you know s2 of the 100 will always be my favorite season, it was brilliant and the writing was absolutely incredible and I don't think any season will ever top it but saying that, S4 does come close!!! it was exciting and the writing was good and the storyline of trying to save everyone was so good and bellarke actually interacted most of the episodes maybe that's partly why I loved it lol also loved s6 though mostly for bellarke but also the storyline was decent! i understand why some didn't like s5 it wasn't my favorite but I never would've wanted the 100 to be cancelled before s6 because some of those bellarke moments in S5&6 were incredible and 6x10 is one of my favorite episodes and if we hadn't had that episode I would've been so sad!! jroth is a petty pos they wrote a scene where bellarke got together in 6x11 then he changed his mind because he sucks and they did a total 180 and rewrote it ugh anyone that watched the show and didn't think bellarke was leading to endgame was in denial truly!! all the foreshadowing, all the parallels and quotes about love and etc they were supposed to be endgame end of the story! whether you hate them or not it was supposed to be them together!! I got off topic I always do because I'm so upset and angry they weren't endgame but yeah!! I'm actually on the S4 finale in my rewatch and I genuinely did love that season for more than just bellarke but yeah!

Bryan Safi

Bryan plays Josh Russo on 9-1-1, a senior dispatcher who plays a part in many interesting 911 stories. His backstory in particular was shown in episode 4x11 (find a videoclip series here on youtube)

More recently he featured heavily in the Bachelor/911 crossover episode [7x04 - gifset here] but Bryan himself has also been shown as a huge fan in a US Weekly chat about the series.

Bryan has a great relationship with costar and fellow dispatcher JLH (see interview here). And of course Bryan was part of the recent 911 cast team on Celeb Family Feud!

Other acting roles include many parts in comedies such as Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and the upcoming comedy 'Poppa’s House'.

Early in his career he won an Emmy as a writer on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'. As part of the comedy studio 'Funny or Die' Bryan has interviewed Cher and Mariah Carey. He has also written, performed and produced comedy spots such as 'The First Gay Sportscaster'.

He is co-host of a podcast with Erin Gibson, 'Attitudes!' (formerly titled Throwing Shade). He also co-hosts the comedy advice podcast 'Ask Ronna', and has appeared on several others such as Pod Save America.

Bryan has been recognised in Out Magazine's 'Out 100 LGBT+ people'. He now lives in LA and New York, though he was born in El Paso.

debbie baby-trapping derek.

i was rewatching the part where derek leaves, and i just felt the need to share my pov of it.

as we all know, i am a lesbian debbie truther. i 100% believe that she was expierencing comphet and didn’t love derek and season 6 is perfect evidence.

in season 6, it is revealed derek left for florida, and is going to become a pilot in the air force. derek’s sister in law confronts her about the fact that she didn’t care enough to know such a major detail about derek, and that she didn’t love derek, she just loved the baby.

i agree.

debbie didn’t love derek, she thought she did at first, and then when she met his family and saw a perfect opportunity to be in it, she took it. debbie says she didn’t “mean” to trap him, and i believe her to the extent where i think she didn’t know that she was trapping him, but she did trap him. to be fair, he never said that he didn’t want to have a kid with her, he just left- but still.

all debbie has ever wanted was a family, specifically a daughter. and she gets that. people think it was bad for her, but it was her dream, and she ended up doing really well, so i disagree. however, all derek truly ended up being was just his sperm. he is the father of franny, but franny doesn’t know him, and he was dead by the time she was four.

matty and derek are such perfect examples of comphet and i have even more reasoning:

with matty, debbie only began liking him because holly literally told her that she did.

she really wanted his validation (daddy issues).

in 4x11, she moves on EXTREMELY quickly, proving she never actually had any feelings

with derek, she saw someone defending her, and confused platonic attraction with romantic attraction (“that was the nicest thing anyones ever done for me!” -debbie)

she found out that she could get into this perfect family by having a kid so she did just that, she was more interested in the family than him

she knew basically nothing about him

her intense reaction to his absence was her abandonment issues, not her being in love

it’s honestly saddening how her whole intention was to create a family the opposite of hers, with two loving parents, but just ended up being put in a similar position where one parent runs off and the other one is left high and dry.

also i hate derek- i get he was trapped but i don’t even hate him for that i just hate him💋

just. imagining what it would've been like if monty and harper had made it to the bunker for jaha and kane to enforce clarke's list. and then they wake up on the outside waiting for the death wave because neither of them was on it. and all this happens right after harper has finally regained the will to live thanks to him. THE ANGST.
