Riverward Prefixes
As with all faction-specific prefixes, the Riverwardens name their members after their general surroundings first and foremost.
For the Riverward Faction specifically, their prefixes generally relate to the freshwater fens, mangroves, fenlands, and moist forests of their territory, and everything in it. This includes various trees, riverside or water-dwelling plants and animals (most commonly: fish, amphibians, and water-dwelling predators), mosses, and herbs.
Desirable traits, sounds, and more complex subjects are also quite popular, and found almost exclusively within their ranks due to the other faction’s views on how “ditzy” they sound.
More specific examples:
[Waterland Plants] Cressfur (Mudfur), Sedgesplash (Sedgecreek), Mosspelt, Reedtail, Oakheart
[Riverside or Water-Dwelling Animals] Wigeonfur (Owlfur), Mallardsnap (Mudthorn), Otter (Heavystep), Marten (Shadepelt), Beaver (NCC), Swanstep (Swankit)
[Fish] Breambelly (Sunfish), Graylingtail (Frogtail), Piketooth, Bassnose (Beetlenose), Codclaw (Voleclaw), Salmondive (Petaldust)
[Sounds] Loudbelly, Echomist, Whistle (Greenflower)

WIP Masterpost: Skyrim Elf NPC Overhauls
Making this a pinned post, as this project will be consuming my foreseeable future. For my other modding projects, check out this masterpost.
I am currently working on 3 mods that will cover each race of elf NPC in Skyrim: Children of the Ash (Dunmer), Children of the First (Altmer), and Children of the Green (Bosmer.) Additionally, I plan on updating Children of the Pariah, my Orc NPC overhaul, to take advantage of the assets I'm using for the other mods. This overall project has the working title "Children of Dawn's Beauty" (a reference to the translation of "Tamriel" from elvish.)
My goals for my mods is to keep to the spirit of the original NPCs, and bring in new elements to freshen them up. I research each NPC's page on UESP to glean traits I want their designs to reflect. Style-wise, I am shooting for a little bit more than Vanilla+, but not super realistic or super fantasy. They use High Poly Heads and Expressive Facegen Morphs. Some of the specific attributes I want to emphasize are:
Cultural References and Enhanced Racial Features
I wanted to work in aesthetics/cosmetics from the other games for elves. To make elves more distinct from humans, I am trying to make some of their non-human characteristics more prominent. All three races have brow ridges; large, almond-shaped eyes with colored scalara and large irises; more saturated and varied skintones; and more prominent ears (still pointed, of course.)
Dunmer NPCs will tend to wear a lot of earrings/other piercings, tattoos, and may have ornamental scarification. I've also invoked images of the Good Daedra and the Temple Saints where I can fit them in.
Bosmer NPCs might have horns or sharpened teeth. They also have eyes with star-shaped pupils.
The Altmer NPCs, for the most part, are a little more separated from their culture (as most NPCs are Thalmor, or likely have a reason they left Summerset.) Individuals of higher standing will wear pearls or moonstone, and be well-coifed and wear makeup. Thalmor tend to be more subdued, with sleeker, darker looks.
Age and Lifestyle Influences
I wanted to reflect aging in a way that default Skyrim only kind of touches on with humans (having an Elder race) and have 4 stages of aging via custom textures: Young, Mature, Middle-Aged, and Elderly. These are based on Tempered Skins for Males and Reverie Skins for females. Textures will be available for Vanilla and CBBE bodies.
Young is the smallest category, with the distinct feature being smoother, fuller face textures:
Mature uses the same body textures as Young, but with less baby fat on their faces:
Middle-Aged textures are somewhat wrinkled with stretch marks on the body:
Elderly textures are the most wrinkled, with stretch marks and liver spots on the body:
There will also be two sets of muscle tone. Laborers and warriors will have more prominent muscles (but not unrealistic six packs.)
Mixed-Race Individuals
There will be a few NPCs with mixed heritage, which will show up in their features.
Outfit Addons
I am also working on adding the outfits seen in my screenshots to NPCs via Skypatcher.

4t2 Garlic that repels vampires
a WIP that has been lying around for an indecently long time
Being near garlic, vampires begin to lose vigor points. And garlic stinks. Located in the category - household appliances -> miscellaneous
Thanks a lot for helping @lamare-sims & @jellymeduza Without you, I wouldn't have been able to do anything at all
Why this object was not released earlier and what problems are still unresolved: 1. Garlic has a very strange placement, it is supposed to hang on the wall, but you can place it anywhere. 2. Vampires don't faint after reaching 0 percent vigor. 3. For some reason, garlic does not affect vampires who have come to visit. 4. It was assumed that vampires at a party, feeling garlic, would run away from it as well as from the sun. 5. The stench of garlic in the fourth part is visible only to vampires, I could not realize this in the second part. 6. @jellymeduza also suggested adding a character trait "protection from garlic", as in the fourth part, but I never managed to implement this mechanic, so there is a character trait, but it is useless :(

Writing Tips!
category : angst
a few tips on writing angst! all examples provided are from my own works, linked next to the quotation!
— ☢︎ —
when describing a character who’s at their breaking point, completely ready to be done with all of this, metaphors and similes are key. metaphors and similes are one of the best ways to help a reader understand how the character feels without directly telling them. they make the statement more powerful and atmosphere-painting.
ex. ❝He felt a it coming; a catastrophic storm brewing somewhere deep inside of him that would demolish everything in its path,❞ (x)
ex. ❝The anxiety that clawed at his throat was so familiar it was like an old friend.❞ (x)
don’t just talk about your character being weak, show us! describe how they’re moving, (if they are) how they’re breathing, wincing, groaning, limping, how with every step they take a new wave of unbearable pain reverberates through their bones.
ex. ❝He couldn’t take a step without nearly falling over from the vertigo, and he’d thrown up whatever fuel was left inside him all over the pre-war pavement of the city. He was officially running on empty.❞ (x)
❝Pulling his eyes open only made it worse, and he groaned in agony, squirming slightly on top of whatever hard surface he was laying on to try and ease the pain. It didn’t work.❞ (x)
when a character is sad or about to cry, don’t just describe it by tears! albeit, tears can be a powerful writing tool for a character whose never cried before, such as one of mine in my wip novel. but for characters that are already heavily emotional, use other descriptions and features. a facial expression can illustrate heartbreak, they can lash out in anger when they’re trying to keep it together, and when they hit they’re breaking point, meltdown style, then you can introduce the tears. just make sure you make the pain the focal point of the work, and not the crying. let the crying be the result of the pain, don’t let the crying introduce the pain. characters don’t need to cry to show that they’re hurting. it might be frantic shuffling, making jokes, sitting in silence, not being themselves, etc.
ex. ❝Their last words came out as a half-voiced whimper, but Deacon flinched like they’d screamed it. Little did they know, it’d hit him like a bullet to the chest.❞ (x)
ex. ❝It was his mask: hide the brokenness with a warm smile and a nice laugh. “Heart still beating and all?” He continued with a half-hearted chuckle.❞ (x)
if you’ve previously established your characters having some kind of trait that implies they would handle trauma or pain in a certain way, don’t change it! if your character is known for running to drugs, don’t make them suddenly just burst into tears in front of the main character. if your characters blunt, make them say it bluntly. if your characters a known crybaby, let them have a cry. just don’t stray from your character build to accommodate emotions — after all, emotions don’t control your character, you do! let those characters handle it how they know to until they can’t anymore. then their final breakdown will have more meaning.
ex. ❝They hadn’t seen Scout in a solid two days, nor had they heard anything about him from anyone. He was standing next to the doorway, dark eyes whiter than normal, hands trembling by his sides. He was sweating almost profusely and looked like he was terrified. If they didn’t know any better, they’d think he was just super worried. But they knew better. The question was, how bad would the withdrawals be this time?❞ (x)
ex. ❝’I’m not (okay),’ He admitted simply, shifting his gaze back towards the noodle robot ahead.❞ (x)
include internal dialogue. even if you’re writing in third and not first person, you can still include internal dialogue! simply interjecting the thoughts into the text like another sentence. it will feel like the characters asking the question or making the statement. it’s a key part of letting the reader in on how your character feels, thinks, and handles their pain.
ex. ❝Why her? Why him? Why them? He knew why — it was his own fault. His own past choices. He’d done this to himself.❞ (x)
ex. ❝His body was aching, and he couldn’t remember the last time he ate or drank, but his own relief wasn’t in the question. What kind of relief did he deserve when his son was sick? Dying?❞ (x)

What are the four factor of regeneration, exactly?
What are the four factors of regeneration?
1️⃣The Core Being/Foundational DNA
Each Gallifreyan pops into the universe with shiny, new triple helix DNA formed from either a template or biological parents, setting the stage for their core physical and personality traits.
Although the DNA will change and dominant/recessive alleles will remix themselves to change up physical appearance, psychologically each body is just emphasising a different aspect of that original core personality, like the same song with the lyrics in a different order.
Additionally, some core physical and psychological characteristics will just 'stick' throughout many incarnations. This category also includes memories and experiences potentially subconsciously affecting the look of the new body.
2️⃣Skill Level
Regeneration is an art, and not every Gallifreyan is Van Gogh. While some will create a masterpiece every time they try, others need centuries of practice, and a few might never learn how to pick up a brush. The higher the level of skill, the greater the control, and the smoother the transition.
Especially in the case of the unskilled, bodies can and will rely on ‘what it knows’. For example, if you’re an unskilled Gallifreyan who has been inhabiting bodies that are continuously male, chances are the regenerative process will generally stick to that format because it’s familiar, and significantly lowers the risk of regeneration abnormalities or severity of post-regeneration sickness, like choosing the same character in a video game because you know how to play it.
3️⃣Environmental Vibes
Where you regenerate is as important as how. A calm, supportive environment, like a TARDIS Zero Room, can make a significant difference, offering stability and aid. Regenerating while your companion is having a meltdown and you're crying cos you don't want to be Peter Capaldi, on the other hand? Not really ideal for focus.
As a rule of thumb, regenerating bodies try to adapt as best they can to the environment it’s in. Ergo, if you regenerate in space, your body may just try to adapt to living in a void ... 🫠
This category also includes other influencing factors like drugs and radiation - the presence of certain hormones or biochemical agents in the body at the time of regeneration could influence the process.
4️⃣Random selection
Even taking all of these factors into account, there is still a degree of random selection, as in humans. Some things (are your earlobes attached? Can you roll your tongue? Do you like pears?) can be truly random.
Related:
What counts as a safety hazard for regeneration?: Risk factors in regeneration.
Why does a Gallifreyan get ‘superpowers’ straight after regeneration?: Why Gallifreyans ‘explode’ on regeneration and are overly energetic.
Factoid: What happens to the old body when a Gallifreyan regenerates?
How do Gallifreyans deal with regeneration disparities?: How Gallifreyan society perceives and deals with those unable to regenerate.
Hope that helped! 😃

[Vent] Comparative Analysis of My OC and Other OCs Observed in L/f!oc fics
*Excuse my English. This post has not been revised by AI for grammar and flow.*
Introduction
Why am I writing this instead of concentrating on my own fic? Answer to myself, it's because there were plenty of doubts while writing. The fear of writing her as not likable, not logical, not complex enough, not human enough, and not acting aligns with those who have trauma, and the last, the fear of accidentally writing her as Mary Sue. Several times I was reading someone else's fanfic and their OC were very popular? Likable? Interesting- in some sort of way, in a way that I find amusing, yet the characterization is never to become my own OC's personality. And with good reason. This post is for myself, to remind me why I write her as she is and why not she is the kind of OC that I imagine modern readers would like (I want to be welcomed by readers, too, yet sadly, I cannot make my OC more loving) Or to put it in another way, this post is me being very self-aware, or convincing myself that it's okay to write her like this. This is me analyzing my own OC.
Basic Description of My WIP F!oc
Nanami Miru (七海咲来) born in England, Japanese family. Abusive parents died in a fire, then entered Wammy's House, given alias "Meredith". Only close people would call her "Meri". Different alias were taken by her in various stages of life and situations, the most used would be Meredith/Saotome Rin (早乙女凜), Later taking the code name "M", carries out Watari's assignments. For more detail, please refer to Far Side of the Moon (AO3)
Varies kinds of OCs Observed in L/F!OC fics
It seemed that categorizing OCs into these kinds was not really fair for the fics I've read, but I won't list them out specifically, so I think sorting my own observations wouldn't hurt, I think. It is noted that these OC traits can appear combined.
Mommy OCs (sometimes this can be a tag) The girl that would take care of other children in Wammy's House if she were a Wammy child. If she is not a Wammy child, then it would be shown in later chapters that when she has contact with the Kira task force, she will take care of everyone and, of course, including L. Very good at taking care of others, physically and emotionally, a motherly like persona. She may also be a great assistant to Watari.
Sassy/wild/badass girl OCs (this is also a tag) The not-obedient girl that would argue and fight L. Maybe fight Watari. Maybe fight everyone. She would teach all of them a lesson, and let them know who's in charge of this story (?) Most of these OCs can be the tough kind, but it does not necessarily mean that she doesn't have her vulnerabilities. Giving enemies to lovers trope more, instead of friends to lovers, even if the fic stated that they are "friends" (or working partners)
Outgoing OC Had to write this separately from the previous category. Outgoing girl to contrast the gloomy vibe of L's. The contrast of their personality would give an interesting take on how they view things. Mostly this kind of outgoing girl is also loved by many others, and including L in most scenarios. Not necessarily sassy wild or not obedient. Frankly speaking, it would be more like this OC is an extrovert, in contrast to L's introversion.
Practical Realistic OCs (more cerebral) <-I'm currently aiming for this, more. I think most OCs I read do have this trait, but also combined with other mentioned traits. OC being intelligent and maybe participating in the Kira case, and giving out her advice to L and Watari, or maybe conducting some missions that Watari or L handed her.
Analysis: M and the OCs mentioned previously
As I do not consider myself to read enough L/OC fics, maybe just pause here on the categorization. Now, I would apply the above-mentioned OC types to my OC and see why she doesn't/does correspond to these popular traits.
Mommy OC I could see M sometimes being watchful to other children in Wammy's House, but rarely. It's more of an act of being nice to others, but nothing more. Without receiving much affection and love from her original family, it would be hard for her to know how to take care of others, especially those who didn't have much to do with her. (If you have not received love, then how do you give love to others) She kept herself quite distant from peers as well, and maybe the only person that she spent time with was Watari, the first person to give her kindness closer to a fatherly figure, and her first emotional dependence was mostly on Watari. Later, with L. But as L himself is also quite distant and isolates himself from others, it would be reasonable when M spends most of her time with L, and only L. It wasn't until after L left Wammy's House that she would have the chance to have contact with others more, and in my current WIP, with a boy named "Adam". What she did was not take care of Adam, but only have some contact and help him with some assignments of his current courses, as she is a few years older than Adam.
Since then, Adam would continue to learn some more music theory from Meredith, and sometimes would ask for her help on the assignments that the instructors assigned to him. It was then Meredith realized how difficult subjects Adam was learning, much more challenging than what she was learning when she was his age. What he was learning maybe two years ahead of his peers, she estimated.
If M had to take care of anyone, it would only be L and Watari. But I don't think that she needs to take care of L? Like, L has Watari beside him, so why need another being to take care of him if he already has a great butler who would even dress him on a daily basis (see, L: One Day) But I've always considered the concept of a "motherly" person has to start with some kind of love that she received before, maybe in her childhood. It was never the case for M. She may know how to serve, clean, and cook (but not baking, as she sucks at baking) from learning later in life, but it only means that she knows how and not necessarily giving the motherly feeling. I've always wanted to write a story that conveyed that being a mother and knowing how to be a mother is definitely acquired and not born with it. Yes, of course, some have an instant love for their child or young children, and maternal love is in the blood, but not all women apply to this. When accepted maternal love is acquired and needed to be learned instead of born with it, I suppose many woman could be relieved from the society's emotional blackmails of "you are the mother and you should do xxx for your child".
Sassy/wild/badass girl OCs This is more like a choice, choosing what kind of personality that one's OC would have. And I did not choose this kind. If I have to give a reason, then it would also stem from the original family that M had. Suppressed feelings and hiding your thoughts from others was what she was educated on, and with the trauma that she experienced, one of the reactions I really wanted to write about was fawning. She is desperate to cling to someone who could provide her love. Therefore, she would not have the personality to be a badass girl, I suppose. She is too afraid to be unseen, to be ignored by those whom she cares about the most, to be rejected, and therefore, she doesn't really have the courage to be disobedient. To my own interpretation of this OC, it would be harder for her to stand up to Watari than fight L, as to her she may have a more horizontal relationship with L, but never with Watari. It would definitely be vertical. M struggled for praise when she was younger and even after entering Wammy's House. Watari needed patience to make her more open, and that's why the little girl likes the inventor and sees him as the fatherly figure that she did not have in her childhood. Watari was more like a father when he was around M than L. Out of my own agenda, I wanted M to be the soft spot of Watari, but it does not mean that Watari would prioritize M more than L. Watari wanted to change the world. And L was his hope to accomplish that. It was also my attempt to subtly show Watari's obsession with L's success and later to pursuit the goal of world peace, the reason for the successor's program. I know that in Another Note (AN) Watari was portrayed like the mad scientist that wanted to copy L's success, and disregard the well-being of Wammy children, but this is really different from the relationship that Watari shared with M. In later chapters, I did have an attempt to explain and adjust the reasons provided by AN, and I do hope the narrative is logical and in an ingenious way that does not go too far from canon but still maintains the warmth Watari expressed to M, and to other children of Wammy's House. I think I'm carrying away too much in this passage.
Outgoing OC This is also by choice more than reason. Couples in my own experiences mostly share similar personalities than those who had totally different personalities. L and M both are quiet introverts that only open up more when they are around people they are familiar with- well, maybe we can't really see that in L in canon, but he definitely is not an outgoing guy. There was a scene in anime when L knew that it would be his death day, and he went to Watari, with Watari asking him "What's wrong" but he remained silence. I think it was the few moments that we could see L seeking for some kind of emotional comfort from Watari, or maybe wanting to take one last look at the man that raised him, but didn't know what to say or express. L felt strange to tell Watari that he hear the bells. It was not him. It was not logical. And even he did tell Watari, Watari may not understand what he meant (It's really metaphysics, to say.) But judging from this scene, I do think that L would open up, very slightly, to those who he trusts the most. But never to others, colleagues (task force), or mere friends, let alone potential rivals (Yagami) Where am I? Ah yes, outgoing OCs. So it's only really my own preference to write a love interest of L's sharing similar personalities like him. Communication and opening up would be easier for this kind of couple, in my experience. And with M also not the outgoing girl, I could maintain that very nuanced emotional flow between the two of them. Everything is very subtle and indirect. And that is the kind of story I wanted to tell.
Practical Realistic OCs (more cerebral) So, this part, the thing I wanted to point out is that I do want my OC to be practical and realistic. The part that I am not going to write is OC engaging in L's investigations or career. I know that to showcase an OC's intelligence and make L approve of her is to make her work with him in some cases, or even the Kira case, but it just boggled me that if L really cherished another person, then would he let her engage in what he is doing? First, he knew that his career was never the kind that was considered safe. Especially Kira case is the most dangerous and difficult case for him; in my own understanding of L, he would be well aware of the danger and would not want his love interest to risk her life in such matters. Second, L has some sort of pride. Ego. this is his domain. Solving cases, whether it was a game for him or fighting for justice, gave him a sense of accomplishment and relieved the boredom he experienced as the top. Handling the case on his own would suit him more like L; he would again prove to others that he is the top and greatest of all. Even if L didn't have this thought, L is a man who has boundaries and needs ultimate freedom when he works. He would need assistance from the task force and Watari, but he dislikes to be distracted, as evident from canon.
I can't stand it when people's cellphones are ringing while I'm trying to talk. Let me start by saying nobody takes notes on anything that's said in these meetings. That means when we leave headquarters, any information we need is committed to memory. Please, make yourselves comfortable. (L, Death Note-Unraveling)
So how to show OC's intelligence and respect for L's boundaries? My answer in my story is, she has her own career, her own assignments given by Watari. L would only seek for her advice if he really needed it. But both of them would not trespass into each other's domain. By doing so it could maintain the boundaries of L's, giving him maximum freedom in investigation without having to worry about his love interest risking.
"I have confirmed that Kira is a student." L paused, bringing his thumb to his lips before continuing, "I'm just trying to gather more clues." M peered at the screens and flashed a smile. "Looks like the schedule of a third-year high school student." L inquired, "How so?" "If it were a first or second-year student, they would have club activities after school," M gestured towards the time on the screen, "but third-year students are busy preparing for university entrance exams and are not required to participate in clubs. Unless Kira didn't participate in any clubs, which is uncommon for Japanese students, it must be a senior student." (Far Side of the Moon, Chapter 2)
So here, what M only did was give a comment on L's current case but never participate in the investigations. I want to show that L respects her career, and she, too, respects his boundaries, even if she wants to help. Of course, if she ever did, I imagine with both of their intelligence, the Kira case would be solved maybe much faster (hehe), and maybe we would have an alive L. But no, for my story. I want to aim for the story that was not presented in canon. The scenes of L's private life that did not show in canon but happened simultaneously. Not really canon compliant, but aim to.
Conclusion: Write what you want to write.
Yeah. As I mentioned before, this post is a reminder for myself. Believe in yourself. Trust the plot. Trust the story. Trust how much you invested yourself in this story, and readers could feel that you put a lot of effort into the story and did your homework. There's a lot more I wanted to explore in my current WIP, other than DNverse. Feminism, society issues in Japan, mental health issues, trauma experiences, longing, relationships...etc. Trying to combine them all. And hope for the best.

yeahh I'm feeling the creep of insecurity lately about how much my WIP doesn't quite fit into existing publishing categories and as much as I'm trying not to worry about the potential it'll struggle to find an audience......... still, hm :/
Idk, for example, cavernous has too much story to be considered straight up and down "erotica" according to the market, is way too explicit to be considered mainstream fiction, and has too many genre-unconventional traits (like a big ensemble cast, no clear HEA, poly characters, etc) that disqualify it from being called "Romance" in the popular/traditional sense. And while I (from a creative perspective) don't give a lot of credence to rigid categories like this anyway, and plan to self-publish largely for this reason, it's still making me nervous. And!! I know a lot of folks on here probably feel similarly about their projects, if not for these specific reasons for other genre-bending and convention-breaking reasons.
So, IDK, if you're the type of reader who would seek out and enjoy books that defy pre-existing publishing norms you should totally give this a reblog or leave a comment to show your support and share it around. I think if writers have the chance to really see the potential support vs the loud consumer minority that wants things very cut, dry, and conventional, it'll do a lot to help reassure all sorts of creators.

Another day, another Sims 3 Wip post. As before, the work outfit still needs work. None of these are finalised yet. Hue and Ikky's wips can be found here
Zyglavis
Apparently there's no ponytails in the hair category for male sims in sims 3? (This is why I'd kinda like to do Sims 4 as well, though I suspect the clothes will be more of an issue there without the custom colour/pattern tool thing). So yes right now have Zig with his hair down.
Personality Traits:
Lifetime Wish: Forensics Specialist (The forensic path of the law career path seemed to fit)
Tauxolouve
Personality Traits:
Lifetime Wish: Master Romancer (I was torn with Lou. Arguably you could also have Heartbreaker or one of the ones that covers the Painting skill)

Hi! :D Shapeshifting is so cool, can you tell me more about how it works in your wip?
Can I tell you more about the concept that’s been haunting my every waking moment (and some dreams) for like 8 years? Absolutely! It goes under the cut, though, because I can’t possibly be normal or concise about this lol
Broadly, shapeshifters are split into two categories: human-orgin and animal-origin. Human-origin shapeshifters are those like werewolves, were-animals, naguals, or erichtu. Animal-origin shapeshifters are those like selkies, huli jings/kitsune, or swan-wives. They all operate on the same ‘rules’, but can go by various names depending on culture or region. I use ‘shapeshifter’ as a catch-all, but in-universe they can be called all manner of things. In the scientific community, the term ‘metamorph’ is used in relation to shapeshifters.
Animal-origin shapeshifters are much more rare than human-origins, and tend to shy away from human settlements and societies. All shapeshifters have been vilified at some point, but animal-origins tend to be seen as more savage and strange, because they can only pretend to be human. On the flip side human-origins are seen as sneaky and unpredictable because of their animalistic traits and instincts
The magic behind shapeshifter is very poorly understood, in large part due to laws about human experimentation, and as such there is a lot of misinformation about it. One of the few things most scholars can agree on is that each shapeshifter is only capable of transforming into one animal species. Stories of a single shifter holding multiple forms are baseless stories. Within human-origin shapeshifters there is a further split between ‘born’ and ‘turned’ metamorphs. Born metamorphs are, obviously, born from shapeshifter parents, and thus inherit their genetic magical markers. Turned shapeshifters have been bitten by a shifter and undergone a painful, dangerous transformation. There isn’t a hard-and-fast rule about born shapeshifters inheriting their parents' animal forms - ie a werewolf having a werewolf child - but there is a much higher probability if both parents have the same animal form. There have been stories of some shapeshifters spontaneously presenting as such even if both parents are normal humans, but that is usually chocked up to latent genetics that have been triggered by exposure to specific magical influences.
Most human-origin shifters have an animal form that is some sort of predator species. It’s been theorized that this is due to whatever magic creates shapeshifters leaning towards an ‘evolutionary advantage’ and thus selecting for strength, ferocity, or some other trait that is predominantly seen in predator species. Still, there are enough accounts of shifters with non-predator forms that no one can claim all shifters have a predator form.
In terms of how shifters change their forms, this is something that falls under the “we can guess, but we can’t know for sure” category. It’s known that shifting is a general painful process, and requires a great deal of energy from the shapeshifter. Frequent repetition can ease the pain, and make it easier for a metamorph to ‘trigger’ their transformation process, but nothing can be done to circumvent the energy cost of changing one’s entire physical makeup. There has been a great deal of discussion about the fact that whatever articles of clothing or accessories a shifter may have been wearing in human form ‘disappear’ when they shift, only to ‘reappear’ when the shifter returns to human form, but no one can say for sure. A phone that ‘disappears’ will cease to function entirely, as well as any technology that could be used to trace where these items go.
The last note I will hit on is that there is no consensus of how much control a metamorph has over their transformation. Some assert that a shifter has perfect control, while others say the shifter has no control at all. The generally accepted theory is that control is a sliding scale, or bell curve. Some metamorphs have more control than others, while some have less. Most shifters exist somewhere in the middle, where they can trigger their transformations at will, but may also have their transformations triggered via intense emotions or unconscious responses to certain stimuli.

OKAY HI! I have a question for all the That Broken Promise Chaaras you feel like gaving answer: HAVE THEY EVER SEEN A POSSUM (north american one not the aussie one) AND WHAT DO?
(prompted by, seeing your au more often and staring to read it and also hearing my housemates freak out seeing a possum for the first time)
Thank you for the question! Yeah, I'm trying to engage with people more even if its taking a while to get some of my recent WIPs to a finished state.
I'm honestly not sure if I think Hyrule has possums, but in the general sense of "Reacting to strange new animals" (because goodness knows that's gonna come up for everyone at some point), a general list:
SKYLOFT: Absolutely will get himself bit being curious and happy to meet something new. In his case, this will include horses, although hopefully someone will save him before he loses any fingers.
MINISH: Curious but wary, and in addition many small creatures will react to him like they do a predator and be scared. I do not envy the group when they find this out, because, once again, this will include horses. The poor, poor stable owner. Ironically, Minish also tends to react to small predators this way despite the fact they're definitely not still 4 inches tall (eg. prey-sized) most of the time...
KOKIRI: After Termina, he's pretty blase about most new creatures and animals. Even blupees are probably going to get, at most, mild curiosity. He's not easily scared and has good enough reflexes something like a possum would get chucked into the bushes before it could bleed him.
OUTSET: A second "WILL get his ass bit." type. ALSO including horses, which he's never met! This is something I honestly think is a pretty typical Link trait but as above the details vary and just as many have more sense than required to fill a teacup as have less. Outset has less. Much less.
CHIEF: Loves small animals. Will NOT like horses. Also doesn't think much of cattle or pigs, especially given his usually associations with them are 'train hazards' which probably has not had pretty results on occasion. He'd definitely extrapolate and love cats and small dogs, but his discomfort increases with size.
ORDON: Loves everything. Everything loves him. He would probably be able to pick up a possum and love on it and the thing would be so confused by his confidence and aura as to just submit to being snuggled. This probably even extends to lizards. Ilia has never had a problem with mice in her life because they have a dozen cats. That kinda guy.
FOUR: Pretty indifferent to animals. He's confident with them, and will pet or cuddle a cat or dog or horse if it comes up to him, but he's not going to seek them out. He tends to be pretty distracted worrying about himself, so a new critter will mostly be assessed for 'does it want pets or not? No? Then who cares.'
PRINCE: Also in the 'does it want my attention or to be left alone' category of assessment. The only exception for adoring and doting on animals is his horses, and he's not interested in adding new things. A possum would be left well enough alone.
RABBIT: "Would get his ass bit" This man has ridden a winged bear, a dinosaur, and a kangaroo that is absolutely spoiling for a fight. A possum WILL get forehead kisses and it WILL like it. Thank all the Gods they cannot carry rabies. (Actual fact! Their body temperature is too low.)
SMITH: Not quite an animal person, although animals love her. She's a bit bewildered by the way other people react to horses and cats and things, because she's primarily been in love with her work but honestly she won't have an ounce of trouble despite never having been on a horse in her life Well. She won't get thrown or bit; she probably won't get where she's GOING but that's a different problem.
FAR: Very wary of new things because he's used to assessing danger or not. I imagine something like a possum would get pretty decent space, although honestly with his lifestyle the odds he's adopted one as a pet in the past is non-zero. New creatures will take him a little bit to adjust to, but if something offers him no threat he won't care much. Ordon and Rabbit are going to have some work getting him to adjust to horses.
HATENO: Loves Everything. Everything loves him. It might try to bite him, but he both will not care and will likely manage to avoid it. Pretty much equal with Ordon in terms of success with anything and everything he has to deal with. Will have his work cut out for him convincing Chief a horse doesn't mean any harm, but he's game to try.
Thanks again for the ask! God this reminds me of my first time seeing a ground hog and the "Dear GOD they're HOW BIG!?"
New creatures are the best, every time.

2 and 13!
2. What are some common elements of stories you are tired of seeing? What would you avoid writing about?
I'm tired of the romantasy boom. Which is not to say I don't like the idea of romantic fantasy—I in fact want everything I read to be romance—but I'm sick of the same cookie cutter books blowing up. You know the ones. The main character is a Strong Woman™ and her love interest is a Lovable Rogue. They have a whole Han and Leia thing going on. The book is titled "A [Noun] of [Noun] and [Noun]." I guess that's not really an element so much as an entire marketing category.
Oh okay, I thought of one. The Angry Woman. Anger isn't a personality. Write better, thanks.
I personally am uninterested in writing heteronormative stories. I also categorically will not write Women's Fiction. As far as other genres or tropes or whatever, I'm up for most things. My goal is to write a gay romances in every genre. Except Women's Fiction I guess.
13. What traits do you share with your original characters or what traits do you wish you shared with them?
My main characters are almost always anxiety-wracked nerds, so...that. They usually like animals. They're almost all college educated (something I'm intentionally trying to break out of doing!).
I'm not sure if I really want to share a lot of traits with them. Being a dude? My life having a narrative arc? Gordon in my current WIP is going to inherit a bunch of money, so I wouldn't mind that.
Okay, a real one: I wish I was good at taking care of plants as Tad in Strangers to Husbands. I'm turning into a plant person but it remains to be seen if I can keep my plants alive.
Thank you for asking!

It's Worldbuilding Wednesday, so I thought I'd start introducing some stuff about my WIP's world :))
The topic of today:
🔮 The Magic System 🔮
ITS PHYSICALITY
The magic in this world exists as a physical element—one that can be used as a unique energy source. The element itself is called magia and it's entirely quantifiable, if not always easily. It's further separated into two categories: pure and impure. Impure magia is what casters are able to use to perform magic whilst the pure kind remains unreachable to them. Not all impure magia is the same, however; it's pure magia that's been, basically, tainted by magical creatures, and thus it has different essences in its composition. This doesn't affect how casters are able to use it, but it does have different kind of effects :)
ITS USAGE
To perform magic means, in practical terms, to command magia. This is achieved in mainly two ways: by casting and enchantments. Casters are able to manipulate the impure magia in the air to bend reality to their will, although that's much easier said than done. One, they need to have a magia conductor on their person as otherwise they'd be just as successful at commanding magia as commanding oxygen; two, understanding the laws of physics you wish to manipulate is crucial in actually, well, manipulating them; and three, use of magia often results in adverse physical effects, so how much one is able to do magic varies from person to person and their physicality. There are three types of casters: mages, priests, and freecasters. Mages are essentially academics—they learned how to perform magic through studying at a magical academy and were awarded a license by it to use it. Priests, too, study the science to an extent, but most of their capabilities come from the deities they pledge their devotion to. Through them, they're able to manipulate magia in ways inaccessible to mages, such as for limited healing, divination, and more. In contrast, mages are generally more adept at the more usual categories, such as charm, transmutation, illusion, and others. Freecasters are usually magical creatures that are intelligent and skillful enough to manipulate magia using their own bodies as a conductor. This ability sometimes extends to venemagiks of their kind, to which we'll get to in a sec :) Other than casting, people are also able to make use of magia by enchantments. Basically, any item than can be written on can be, technically, enchanted. You do this by inscribing sigils onto the object that, when activated, are able to soak up the magia in the air and work together to give the object (or area) certain magical qualities. This is also usually only available to mages or priests as it's an entire field of study on its own and you need a very specific kind of material to active the enchantments.
ITS EFFECTS
There's a whole thing about magical creatures and spirits and how they depend on magia to survive, but that's gonna be for a different post lol. For now, we're gonna talk about people that are most affected by magia—venemagiks. As magia exists in the air all around, people are always breathing it in. Usually, it just harmlessly passes through their bodies. As a child is developing in the womb, however, they're much more susceptible to outside influences :) What we get as a result are venemagiks, a human with magical creature traits. What kind of magical creature depends on the impure magia's essence as well as what the child's body is more susceptible to. In short, though, the more magical creatures of a certain type are in an area, the more venemagiks of that type will be born. As far as traits go, they can vary intensely. A venemagik of a reptilian type creature might just have some scales on their arms, or they might have a lizard head and breathe fire. It's a wide spectrum, basically. For some, it's inconsequential or maybe even helpful, whereas for others it can be life-threatening (for example, a venemagik of a kind of water creature might have both gills and regular lungs and neither might suffice).
And that's pretty much the basics, I think ! A strongly condensed version, if you will haha

Worldbuilding Spotlight: Witches
Biology and Magic
WIP: Unnamed (doc 3)
Biology:
Witches are humanoids whose origins sprung from the bridge between Velsaid and the mortal world. Though their physical traits do not differ from the variations displayed in the human genome, their lifespans are much longer and they possess greatly versatile magic. The average witch is expected to live around 200 years.
Contrary to common connotations, "witches" refer to the entire species and both sexes, rather than strictly female witches. However, since some magic is passed matrilineally (through mitochondrial DNA), the most commonly-spotted witches in the earlier centuries tended to be female, partially because they were more likely to leave their covens and venture into human settlements.
Magic:
The two main categories of magic are Common and Clan magic. Clan magic is a unique form of magic that manifests differently in each family. As previously stated, Clan magic is matrilineal, as it is passed through the mitochondrial DNA. This means that while all witches possess magic, witches that are male in sex are unable to pass clan magic onto their offspring. Clan magic cannot be learned or obtained through other means beyond genetic inheritance, though spells or potions with similar affects might exist. These substitutes are typically much weaker and less efficient than the inherited version. Clan magic typically manifests as traits or qualities, but those that manifest as abilities exist as well.
Within the subset of Clan magic, the two branches are Active and Inactive. "Active" Clan magic are traits and qualities that can't be "turned off", and are therefore constantly "active" such as enhanced durability or rapid healing. Those that are "inactive" must be intentionally used, such as telepathy. Clan magic is often the most instinctive and first to manifest in witches. However, it has its limits. Inactive Clan magic has a tendency to be more dangerous and difficult to control. However, it also tends to be more powerful than Common magic. Active Clan magic is safer and doesn't require control. It doesn't "drain" a witch the way Common or Inactive magic can. However, it tends to be weaker than even Common magic alternatives of the same ability (though not always).
Common magic is the magic that all witches are able to wield. This can come in a range of forms, from elemental to utility to combat-based. Most witches use Common magic in their daily lives, from healing injuries to making their tea stay warmer for just a bit longer.
Magic, being so untameable a force, requires much practice, skill, and control. Therefore, in order to learn how to properly control their magic, young witches are taught using wands, which serve as conduits that focus and strengthen their magic control, much like a metal rod for electricity.
Once strong enough, witches will abandon wands and perform their magic on their own. However, there are still occasions in which they will opt to use a wand, typically when casting magic above their own caliber, as the wand will serve to amplify their own magic and lessen the burnout. If performing a particularly powerful and/or dangerous ritual or spell, they might choose to use a staff, which is far stronger than a simple wand.

If you could use one of these three traits: possessive, obsessive and nurturing to describe your platonic yanderes which ones would fall into which?Lol, I saw someone do this before, so I thought I might as well ask.
Ohhhh uhhhh hmmmmmmmmm *loading* I think it is more to the side of uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh- two types idk? TvT Depends on the vibes 🤔 I think mainly write for nurturing I think, ones that feel the need to look after the reader. Most works are mainly in that category really.
But it depends on the character. For some characters (ex. Thoma and Zhongli), it would sometimes be that they would want the 'best' for the reader while someone like Dottore is more possessive than nurturing. He doesn't really care if it is the best for the reader. It also depends on the au/situation I guess. For example Diluc, I have one that fic of him thinking of protecting the child!reader and wanting to essentially adopt them. But I also have another wip rn (when that will be finish i do not know lol) is mean brother!platonic yandere!Diluc (and Kaeya) inspired by Cincerella's step sisters!
Preference tho hmmmm I think nurturing platonic yanderes are easier to write to a certain degree at least for me but I tend to be more proud of my more possessive yandere fics tho
#mayu mailbox#had to think for a moment#because i am not sure where the heck does my platonic yan dottore falls in#also had to look at the stuff i wrote cause i do not know to be honest-#which category does my haunted dolls au fall into... i am thinking possessive mainly but there is a bit of nurturing there

Sims 2 CC Reach-Out
So my kittens are starting to become a little more independent and that leaves me with a little bit more time for other interests. But having been away from CC content in a while, I got a lot of ideas/things I want to learn about CC making and it's kind of overwhelming trying to focus them. So I need some help picking something to focus on first.
My focus for defaults will still be historical/medieval/fantasy. The reason I even started this default project was to make it easier for players/myself to start a medieval game, especially with a Maxis neighborhood which would normally require a lot of work to get set-up. Not to mention that it reduces how much scrolling is required for the Build/Buy catalogue.
I will still work on other things, but I have so many ideas rattling in my head that it is difficult to pace myself with the short time I have while the kittens snooze. The descriptions of the choices are below the poll, please check them out if you want to see what I mean by these categories.
Thank you again for the help, along with another big thank you to all the Sims 2 creators who have been inspiring to learn and try new things with CC creation.
______________________________
Build Mode Defaults: These will be focused on texture-defaults of floors, walls, and doors. I have done some CC experimenting with roof defaults but they are low-priority compared to the massive catalogue of wallpapers/carpets.
Buy Mode Defaults: While I still intend on defaulting as much Buy mode as I can, I also have plans to learn to do mesh replacements for the objects that are too modern to pass for anything else. These mesh replacements will try to be as close to the original as possible while keeping it historical/fantasy related.
CAS Defaults: This will have a bulk of clothing defaults, but will include hair defaults and conversions to other ages/genders. This will also include refreshments of old CC; creating add-ons for defaults that have uneven replacements for teens/adults and package-cleanup for file size reduction.
Standalone Buy/CAS CC: This category is for both modern/medieval stuff that are not related to DRs. These will include conversions of outfits to make them separated, hair recolors, and modern/medieval retextures of Maxis and CC items. This will also include new buy objects, several of which have been sitting in my Blender docs for months.
Other/Misc: This is for stuff that doesn't really fit the other categories and is more experimental. Things in this category are small projects that I have started but have hit a major impasse due to lack of knowledge on the subject or lack of motivation. This includes: finding ways of incorporating the Colors/Music Trait project into historical/fantasy gameplay, default-replacing the static images in memories, new traits, and randomized textures for suitable defaults/accessories/possibly food. If this category is selected, please note it will be much slower but I will provide more screenshots of WIPs as I work on these.
