"You are not going to die," Pepa rolled her eyes, peeling her dramatic child off the garden wall where he slumped to plop him in some shade beneath the grape trellis. "you're going to be fine. The harvests need sunlight, Camilo. We can't hide underneath clouds and winds forever."

It was a hot number today, so really, who could blame Cam? The sunlight was beaming bright and brazen to bring some life to the patches and the greens, and encourage the corn to swivel high rather than hide in the dirt. Folk all over were fanning themselves down and carrying on just fine, though. He could certainly adapt.

Still, to attempt appeasing him, Pepa whipped out a weather-patterned wooden fan and handed it over. "Chameleons are supposed to enjoy the sun, you know. They fan out on rocks and bathe beneath the rays!"

Magdalena blinks as Camilo's hand is suddenly not only in her vision, but touching her--tucking her hair back into place. Her cheeks tinge pink, and she nervously pulls at the red string in her wrist.

"Camilo," A small nervous laugh accompanies her words. "You don't--you don't have to be so kind to me, all the time."

"Next party we throw is gonna be your birthday so I imagine you would be in charge of the guest list," she reminds him gently.

It's silent. Too silent. For too long. And she's just standing there, staring at them. Her face turning redder by the second. She's starting to debate running all the way back to Ms. Xiomara's and begging Roque to speak memory loss into existence.

Actually, that might not be a bad idea given that Camilo's response is...that. Maybe Roque could give her temporary amnesia too so she doesn't have to relive this moment every time she sees Camilo's face.

This was a mistake.

"I was sort of expecting this, but I really did not expect a rejection to be this polite." Magdalena says, her hands twisting, tugging at the red strings that held together her body. A small laugh escapes her, as she feels her heart beat start to race, and tears begin to well in the corner of her eyes. She's certain she's undone the knots that held her together in her anxiety of waiting, and she's proven correct when she tugs a little too hard on her own fingers, and her right hand pops off the end of her arm. She attempts to shove it back into place, but it doesn't work, and she lets out a another choked laugh.

"Oye, estúpida tonta." She mutters, although it's clear this one is directly to herself, and not directed to Camilo.

“Your trust is well placed.” Camilo is proud of this. He is, in fact, very very glad that this is the impression he gives off. There is an issue though, and that issue is whether his ankle-biting skills are genuinely required, or if this is just information that’s being stored away for future reference.

“Do you have enemies I should be biting?” And as a second thought: “Wait, why don’t you use thorns? Thorns are like teeth.” Kind of. In a way.

Camilo made a face at his hermana, unable to hide his displeasure. He was a bit upset right now and he hadn’t realize she was nearby to hear him complain. “I’m alright, eh? No need to worry.” as if he hadn’t just been bemoaning to himself.

“Ai! Shu - shu - shush!” Félix’s takes Camilo by the shoulders, effortlessly picking him up and carrying him behind a wall not yet reconstructed. “Well, I need you to try, mijo! This is all very shocking for all of us.” The man tilts his head back, making sure the subjects of their conversation (i.e. Bruno and Dolores) were out of sight. 

“I know this whole situation with Bruno is -- new! And very, very weird.” I mean, Bruno? Living in their walls? He man hadn’t lost his creep factor. “But try to keep it together. For your mamá okay? She’s very happy, I don’t want to ruin this for her.”

     Well, if they were giving her permission then...

                  “I like you better when you’re yourself, and not shapeshifted into someone else.” 

            “When you’re someone else, it feels like I’m not able to actually talk to you, or spend time with you. and those are like my two favorite things because you’re my favorite person and-” She cuts herself off, her hands twiddling in front of her, the small red threads glaringly obvious as she looks down at her wrists. She really needed to get better at just starting with the actual point of her conversation.

          “And I have something else that I want to tell you, but I am super nervous, and I don’t know how well it’ll go over, and I know how good you are to me, but I’m actually really scared.”

With how much Camilo is used to seeing Magdalena lie through her teeth about certain things, she can see why they'd assume such things. Especially when she said she needed to tell them something serious and dragged them away from the townsfolk who had begun to crowd. It sounded like a lie, an excuse to get them away. But she wasn't lying this time. Not about this. Not about her family's maldición. Her hands fold over Camilo's, pulling them closer, although in the small space behind the houses (where the two often went to escape onlookers), she was sure she didn't need too. But it felt right, having Camilo close to her. "I mean it, Camilo." Magdalena's voice is soft, she's sure Dolores can hear her just fine, but it was the idea that they wouldn't be overheard. "I know I can trust you." She stops herself short, a part of her debates for a second if she ought to just confess to being in love with them. But that wasn't what she set out to do.

"My familia was cursed." She states, turning both of their hands over, so her wrists are now resting in their palms. The tiny red strings showing clearly, the knots showing up. "I'm cursed."
