So to also celebrate me finishing thatw album may I ask for the songs honestly the horror and the wild and number 4 favorite lyrical part of the song?
Okay so, this is actual torture because every single word of this song is tattooed on my heart, but obviously I can't just answer "all of it." Even though the answer is truly "all of it."
But fine! I did this to myself with the ask games lol. So I guess I'll go with the verse that doesn't get as much attention from what I've seen:
Think of all the horrors that I promised you I’d bring I promise you, they’ll sing of every time you passed your fingers through my hair and called me child Witness me, old man, I am The Wild
Listen, I'm a woman in a deeply paternalistic culture, and the amount of times I've been treated like a little girl who doesn't know what she's doing is just!!! Infuriating. At some point I'll figure out how to shoot lightning out of my fingertips and see if that doesn't make them take me seriously. 😡
Sidenote, this song came right after The Old Witch Sleep and the Good Man Grace on shuffle yesterday and if I don't get to fistfight a demon or burn down the patriarchy soon, I might actually combust.
The ask game is here. :)

Hello, hello 🤗 #8 please for the TAD ask game?
8. Song that reminds you of a wonderful memory
That would be Wild Blue Yonder!
The memory it reminds me of is actually just me listening to it for the first time ever. When I first discovered TAD, I started with the THATW album, so listening to itnow reminds me of that time. I was in a really bad place, struggling to keep up with my work, studies, failing relationship and increasing amount of responsibilities. I lay down to rest for a bit and listened to the album on repeat. I especially remember the line "Every brick you hurled I´ll use to build this world". The song filled me with so much joy and hope. It´ll forever be my happy song. :)

Hello! For the TAD digging deep ask game, #13?
13. Song that makes you brave
Tbh, it's not one song
King is really doing it because of what I interpret as pirate vibes, it's like it's setting me up for an adventure. Pray has the same effect but in a "Yes I'm fucked up but I have no limits so I'll prove my worth" situation. New York Torch Song is mostly the dynamic music and the theme of fire, plus the theme of surpassing yourself.
The Horror and the Wild shares the effect of Pray, but in a more villain type situation, if Pray is the broken hero, yet it still helps. That Unwanted Animal, oddly enough, in the way that there's nothing stopping me because I've lost my limits, I'll do whatever I want, it's like the freedom of an animal that doesn't cause about human things like manners or criminal charges.
Then there's Secret World, again mostly for the dynamic rhythm, and the same vibe as Pray and THATW. The Calling, with the theme of surpassing yourself and becoming something more powerful yet something you always were, like NYTS. Then Blossoms and Inkpot Gods because, despite all that's happened and all that will happen, you still have hope and you're still going

Congrats on finishing THATW! For the song ask game, I gotta ask about Farewell Wanderlust: 2. How does this song make you feel?
Hmmm Farewell Wanderlust 🤔 that song makes me feel intense if that makes sense? Like I feel I can relate to it and the lyrics just give it this intense feeling. Overall I enjoy it! Such a good song!

Yay Charlie, here we go. For the THATW song ask game, I feel like we haven't gotten to talk much about Battle Cries? So that one, and questions 1, 2, 6, and 8. :)
1. what was your first impression about this song? And as it changed?
I didn't really have any feelings about it, I loved it obviously like all of their songs but it wasn't one of the special ones. And yes it did change a lot but that will be for the next questions ^^
2. How does this song make you feel?
Overwhelmed to be honest.
(Edit: OK so this is what I wrote first and then I Googled some stuff and maybe I'm wrong, you'll see why)
I feel like Joey's voice is a tiny bit too load and cover Madeleine's voice so I have to focus really hard, even with the lyrics, to isolate her voice.
But also I'm kind of angry at Madeleine's character imao. I trully feel like she is the toxic and controlling one in this relationship which make me even more mad that I have to read the lyrics to understand her because she is the emotionally violent one so I feel like she should be the one we hear the most and that we should have to focus to hear Joey. But I guess that it could be voluntary since emotional abuse is often hidden from others, but since we're inside there home it would make more sense to hear her more to me.
I think that it's my biggest hot TAD take so far 😅.
Edit: wait wait wait! I just googled what beating your chest mean and wait O.O– it mean screaming your sadness and hunger at people but in an unsincere way. Was he lying all along to get people's sympathy? Was he trying to pass as the good guy here???? Or what? I'm doubtful suddenly, because it now feel like the lasts lines might be a twist but I'm not sure, or is he sincerely saying that he will not show a fake version of the story and will be honest? help!
6. What stories or characters are connected to this song in your mind?
Complete OCs, like most of their songs tbh.
8. Do you visualize any colors, images, or scenes while listening?
Yes!!! I imagine everything in such a detail way oh my god, I feel like I'm either their neighbours or their kid listening to them fighting, or I could even be the wallpaper. I'm just listening to every details of something that I shouldn't be listening too, they don't know that I know you know? But I can see them in their living room, fighting, screaming, putting their hands on their face and in their hair, pointing to the kitchen when talking about smashing the plates. I can see her trying to grabe onto him, to get him to stay.
All of this in a very specific aesthetic, it's the evening, the golden hour and the sun is making everything yellow with some ray of sunlight sliding through the curtains while the rest is a lot darker, representing their fight and fallen relationship.

Yay you're playing! For the THATW song ask game, Welly Boots and 1, 2, and 10? <3
Ah! Okay so you immediately went straight for the jugular, I can respect that. I recently visited with my dad’s family so even more feelings have been unearthed. Get ready, I am about to Overshare.
10. When recommending this song to other people, how would you describe it?
Hm. It’s an excellent song and everyone should listen to it, but I can’t imagine telling someone to do so. I have a really hard time recommending things I find very personal.
That being said, I think I did list this song as a favorite when someone was asking, saying it was beautiful and cathartic illustration of grief.
2. How does this song make you feel?
I feel so many things. Joy. Sorrow. Deep and unrelenting rage. Fond.
My best memories of my father are of us singing along in the car. So it makes me want to sing louder, just for him. I also want to scream because how could you leave me here? (Singing along to this song in the car is an Experience for me.)
I was SUCH a weird kid. My dad didn’t fully understand me but he was kind of a weirdo too, so sometimes when people (my mom/brother) don’t get me or find me off-putting, I can feel his fingers down my back and I feel supported. Or, at least, not alone.
“I’m so proud of you” produces such a mix of feeling I’m not sure I can parse it out but it is strong and honestly not great.
“You’re strong enough to do this on your own” well I sort of have to be, don’t I? Rage again. It’s all unbearable but I have to bear it anyway. Why should I have to be on my own? Guilt, because some of that is my fault; my brother was even younger than I was. But that part goes on long enough that I remember that I did my best and I am strong enough. I do have a support system now. And sometimes I even get a reminder, like when I see my family, that there are pieces of him still around.
1. What was your first impression of this song (and has it changed)?
Fun fact! I will not understand a song the first time I listen to it. This song is pretty straightforward but I think it still took me until my third time listening to the album that “you were supposed to be my light/and keep me safe against them all” caught on my brain and then, you know, “‘how could you leave me here?’ you’ll scream” and I wondered what the song was about and how I could project my feelings so strongly into something I thought must have been unrelated. But nope! Not unrelated. Joey Batey just reached in and pulled out my heart to show it to me. Which. I really, really needed at that moment. I restarted the song to just hear the lyrics, and spent the weekend listening to it and crying. Anyway, I thought it was beautiful and perfect and made just for me.
This is the only song that hasn’t changed for me. I interpret their other songs in different ways on different days. I can’t for this one. I know some people think of Welly Boots as a breakup song and I cannot see it. I don’t even want to. I usually like leaving songs as stories that are up for interpretation and can fit multiple narratives but not this one. I like to treat myself with some mild self-absorption, and this one is for me. It is about a father leaving behind his daughter and even though it is a horrible thing, it is not the last thing. The daughter grows up. There is an echo of him in her laugh, her voice, how she moves through the world. There is still rage and loss, but also love, and she can find bits of her father anywhere, even perched by the stairs.

Greetings! <3
6 + 12 for the THATW ask game? :))
Greetings! Thank you for asking 🥰
6. What lyrics make you smile?
I answered this here but I'm always happy for an excuse to gush about more incredible lyrics :D
What always makes me smile is the part
We were gods, we were kids
In Battle Cries. I'm not entirely sure why tbh. It just fills me with some unnameable joy. It's about kids being gods and gods being kids. It's a very nostalgic line - with just these six little words I'm back to being a kid, to believing in magic, to the world bending to my will.
12. What song do you always sing along with?
Literally all of them. All the time. The good thing about masks is that now people don't see me mouthing along when I'm on the train. Not that it ever stopped me before. Every single song is so emotional I can't help but sing along. This is especially true for Farewell Wanderlust because there is nothing more freeing and cathartic than standing in you kitchen and shouting "This here is not singing, I'm just screaming in tune" at the top of your lungs.

Hello! Here for the THATW album ask game. Questions 9 and 10 please? :)
hiii!!! your wifi is working great no worries :)
9) favourite performance by Madeleine?
oh definitely that unwanted animal. the sheer chaos and contained power in that song is absolutely incredible
10) favourite performance by Joey?
farewell wanderlust 10/10 I am cliche but I am free
aside from that I would say fair because of how it stands in stark contrast to songs like the horror and the wild or farewell wanderlust- fair is gentle and soft in ways that thatw and fw are not

Hi!
THATW ask game: 1 + 8, please? <3
Hello! Thank you for asking :D 🌻 Ask game here
1. What song from THATW did you first fall in love with?
I can't exactly remember which song I listened to first (it might have been the title track live performance in the woods) but I distinctly remember the feeling The Rockrose and the Thistle gave me. I think it was exactly what I needed at the time; I felt so seen and empathic of both characters — If I were a song that would have been the one. This song felt so unique: brand new and like a culmination of the songs that built my taste and made me who I am, it was nostalgic and a jump in the unknown all in one. I also love love love the production, the mirroring stanza, and the overall cinematic feel of it. When the song ended I itched to create, make a movie, write a novel based on this song. It was the first (studio) track of the album I listened to, and although The Horror and The Wild kicked my butt in the best way possible, the whisper of the wind and Joey & Madeleine's voice is what irrevocably pulled me in. I love this song with all my being, it's my everything song (a scream, a sigh of relief, the last exhale, the first breath, my lullaby…)
8. What lyrics are still unclear to you?
I like that The Amazing Devil's lyrics are open to interpretation. I like that they tap more into the subconscious / inner feelings than rationale. What I mean to say is that I don't necessarily look for the One True Meaning of a song. Sometimes I understand not a word but the song leaves me with a feeling I don't need to put words to to grasp. So, I guess the song I'm most okay with not discerning the exact meaning of is The Horror And The Wild. It feels very phantasmagorical -if the dream took place in a hurricane :p Like, I wouldn't be surprised if this happens to be inspired by some of those Shakespearean plays with faeries and all. This song man… it's a wild, wild ride but gods know I'm on board!
Happy Birthday ☽ The Horror and the Wild ☾

Hello! How about 1, 2, and 12 for the THATW ask game
1. What song from THATW did you first fall in love with?
I believe it was ‘Farewell Wanderlust’. It was the drama and the cleverness that got me and then the emotion! From “slipped into the night” to “screaming in tune”, I was in love. Incredible.
2. What song from THATW do you listen to the most?
Oh man, that’s a hard question. Probably ‘Inkpot Gods’ at the moment. Although I tend to listen to their albums in full. But if I was to guess, that song has probably been played more, recently.
12. What song do you always sing along with?
Oh, all of them! I particularly can’t resist ‘Chords’ at the minute!

1, 2 and 15 for The Horror and the Wild ask game! :))
ahhh tak!
1. What song from THATW did you first fall in love with?
the album namesake, the horror and the wild. specifically the line "think of all the horrors that I promised you I'd bring" - my heart was SOLD
2. What song from THATW do you listen to the most?
this is a tough one, because I play the album through most days! though I do go through mini phases with looping one or two and getting them stuck in my head, and right now that's battle cries and marbles
15. If you could recommend only one THATW song to your followers, what would it be?
again, this is too hard! the real answer is the whole album - but I guess if I HAD to pick just one, I'd recommend starting with fair. it's one of the most moving and human and real and romantic (without being a single bit cheesy) songs I've ever heard, and no matter what genres you normally like or usually listen to, I'd be surprised if you didn't find something to love about it
ask me about the horror and the wild!

Hi! :)
THATW ask game: 8 + 11 please? <3
Hi! Thanks for dropping by.
The Horror and the Wild album ask game:
8. What lyrics are still unclear to you?
I'm going to take this literally because I'm actually profoundly deaf in my left ear and partially deaf in the right, so for the longest time I knew about the WBY bit in Welly Boots but I couldn't hear it until someone linked me to the edited track. There’s a couple of lyrics in Rockrose that I always mishear, "fettered head" instead or "fretted head", and "whistle as you move" instead of moan.
Actually, no, what the frilly heck are the watching stones? Are they silent or sightless?
I've just answered 11, but as I'm on my mobile I've no idea how to link back

for TAD ask game: 2 & 9
(i love your header btw)
Thank you :)
2. What song from THATW do you listen to the most?
Farewell Wanderlust and Wild Blue Yonder, tho I usually just end up listening to the whole album (and their entire discography, if I'm being honest) on repeat. I also love listening to/singing along to Marbles while standing on our fireplace mantel. I don't exactly know why, it just gives me the feels.
9. What is your favorite performance by Madeleine?
I don't think I can pick a specific performance, she's just amazing and some songs just sound so different that I can't even compare them. But I love her parts in FW. Especially that transition from high to low notes at the beginning. It just sounds so effortless and so beautiful. Also those vocals in TUA! She both growls and sounds gentle (or, well, I guess not exactly gentle. She sounds gentle in Chords for example, I just don't really know how else to describe it. That's another thing I love about TAD, how expressive they are. I know they're actors, but still). And that litte 'hah' after "it all starts to sound like an applause" (I'm a sucker for Madeleine's laughs/giggles).
Thank you for the questions!!

Here I am to make you choose things! So: 4, 5, 6 for the THATW ask game? <3
What lyrics make you scream?
'Welcome to the storm, I am thunder/welcome to my table, bring your hunger' and basically Joey's entire verse in Farewell Wanderlust.
What lyrics make you cry?
Welly Boots. The whole of it always made me sad and then my grandma passed and now I can't listen to it without sobbing.
What lyrics make you smile?
Answered on my main blog but I'll repeat. Joey's 'that's what she said' joke and Madeleine's 'certainly fucking feels like it' because you can hear their facial expressions and I love that. Same with ‘You sang do you think I’m sexy and oh god I really did’” It’s about the TENDERNESS
Honorable mention to 'could be ghosts of monsters or a robot vampire, I don't know'. Just such a cute little lyric.
