A moment of acknowledgement for the mutual domestication trope. Just two characters who are absolutely feral and batshit crazy until they're reunited with the other person, and then all of a sudden they're both sweet and gentle like a dog lounging in the sun after a long hard day of doing nothing

I know people on sonic team have said in the past that Sonic doesn't do relationships because he can't do commitment. But my question is like. How would that square with his feelings for Shadow? Like, does he see himself as not being able to do relationships, despite his feelings? Is there a cognitive dissonance there, or is it more a case of. He doesn't recognize his feelings for what they are or hasn't interrogated them? Do you think that old "he doesn't do relationships" thing can be discounted at this point?

Also no I am not asking this for fanfic reasons to make sure I'm not making him act out of character of course not. Who would even suggest such a thing.

I believe there are certain things that Sonic doesn't like to think about too hard because it makes him uncomfortable to confront them, and I would probably put this as one of them. He probably knows by now, that seeing Shadow lights him up despite the fact that they fight so much, and he likes to follow him around and is trying to break down that wall Shadow constantly puts around him. Maybe sometimes if Sonic thinks too hard about it he might start wondering if those feelings are more than platonic and then he stops himself before going any further cause "nope nope not dealing with that" The question is also what exactly would sonic want from a relationship anyway. He and Shadow are both kinda weird lmao. Sonic's idea of a relationship is probably really unorthodox. Even if he acknowledged his feelings, he probably doesnt want their relationship to change too much. Preferring to race instead of dating, taunting him instead of outright flirting. If they ever made it 'official' I think Shadow would be the one to soften up more and change his attitude (adding Sonic to the small list of things he cares about and no longer threatening to kill him if he got in his way) while Sonic stayed mostly the same. That's probably the good thing about Shadow, he doesn't want anything Sonic isn't prepared to give. Overall, i feel like they match each others freak and they could do a "relationship" but said relationship would be so close to the norm they already have going on, much to the frustration of their friends lmao but hey thats just my opinion and if someone wanted to write a fanfic that explored sonic's feelings towards relationships they got free reign to do whatever cause i feel like the canon leaves it vague enough what sonic's issues actually are
