In 1933, on Highway 41, Caltrans cut the Wawona Tunnel. At nearly a mile, it’s the longest highway tunnel in California, and it serves as the most magnificent introduction to Yosemite Valley. When you exit, you’re greeted with Tunnel View, an expansive vista of the entire Yosemite Valley, framed by El Capitan on the left, Bridal Veil Falls on the right, and Half Dome centered in the background. #yosemite #roadtrip #travel #elcapitan #halfdome #bridalveilfalls (at Tunnel View) https://www.instagram.com/p/BygavVInaRl/?igshid=8hxa87cd0y3o

September 2, 2017 - Day 29
Today should have been a great day visiting Yosemite National Park and it started out to be that way.  But first an update from yesterday.  Out of curiosity, I was looking for the average price for a house in Pebble Beach. In that search, I came across a house that had just sold for $35,000,000.  So, I went to take a look at it.  Not surprisingly, it was pretty secluded so I didn't get a good look but I got a sense of it.  It must have been 200 feet wide and was set on its own beach on Monterey Bay.  I am not sure what was better, the house or the view, but it was magnificent.
Now back to today.  We left Monterey right on time and made great time up to Yosemite.  We did come across an area where the road we were on had been collapsed by a rock slide.  The road was rerouted across the river for that stretch but I had not seen the results of this phenomenon before.  We came upon the end of the line to the park entrance at 12:34 PM.  We found out later that the line was 9 miles long.  We got into the park at 3:37 PM.  3 hours, 3 minutes, 9 miles.  It was absolutely nuts.  An odd aside to this is that as we got into the line, a park ranger was putting up a sign that said "No Stopping Next 1 Mile. Rock Slide Area."  We then inched through that mile for the next 20 minutes.  Oh, well. He let us know.
Once inside, the crowds were gone.  Then entire delay was directly related to the entry process at the gate.  Go figure.  We did get to see some of the highlights of the Park.  The rock formations are simply stunning.  They just climb straight up from the valley floor.  We stopped and got pictures at a minor water fall before going to Bridal Veil Falls.  This fall drops 620 feet from a valley high in the rocks.  As it falls, it gets misty from the winds and the drift of the water, giving the impression of a bridal veil. It is one of the few valley falls that maintains its flow throughout the year.  We moved on to El Capitan (The Captain) know for its massive bulk of unbroken rock soaring 3,000 feet into the air.  From there we visited the Half Dome.  It does look as if the other half of the dome dropped off.  Finally, we drove to the East side of the park to our lodging with the Marine Corps.  We saw some great vistas of the canyons and valleys on a side of the park a lot of visitors miss.  Tomorrow is simply a driving day as we get to Boise to visit with old friends.  Looking forward to it.

This is the 3rd photo from the Yosemite series. This is an iconic one of Yosemite and it was taken from a look out known as tunnel view. It is on the east side of the Yosemite valley and looks at the bridal veil fall and cathedral rocks on the right and El Capitan on the left. In the far right corner you can see half dome. The shot was taken on an overcast afternoon at the time where there were so many people including photographers that it was hard to find a spot for my equipment. Body: Canon EOS 5DS R. Lens: Canon EF 16-35 F2.8, Focal length: 20 mm, Exposure: 2 sec. F/18. Lee ND filter (2 stops), Circular polarizer. . . . . . #yosemitenationalpark #landscapephotography #landscapelover #landscape_capture #landscapes #landscape_photography #pixel_ig #landscape_hunter #landscape_lover #landscapecaptures #landscapestyles_gf #landscape_specialist #getlost #landscapephotomag #ig_landscape #ig_masterpieces #splendid_earthpix #nakedplanetearth #natgeotravelpic (at Yosemite National Park)
