MOVIES I WATCHED THIS WEEK (#192):
TRANCES (1981) is an infectious documentary about the influential Moroccan avant-pop band 'Nass El Ghiwane'. It's like 'The last Waltz' but in Casablanca. A must for fans of traditional Arabic music.
This was the first film that Martin Scorsese restored when he launched his "World Cinema Foundation" in 2007. My 4th Moroccan film. A transcendental experience [with one caveat: They gave amazing concerts to large, ecstatic crowds - and not a single woman in the audience!] This is the 9th film from the Scorsese's list that I've seen. I must remember to come back to it very soon.
🍿
(Another concert, but of a completely different kind: Andrea Bochelli's LOVE IN PORTOFINO. This is for the folks who like to sit in the square by the water when the evening falls, dressed in white cottons, sip white wine while eating fried clams or seafood pizza, while listening to Bochelli's frothy, sentimental baritone.)
🍿
POOL OF LONDON (1951), my 5th drama-Noir from mostly-forgotten master Basil Dearden. Sailors on leave and a jewel heist, as well as a sensitive interracial romance, the first white and Jamaican relationship in British cinema. Crisp on-location scenes and good character development.
Next: His 'The League of Gentlemen'.
🍿
I've developed an interest in the emerging sub-genre of 'Domestic Workers’, mostly movies from South America and Southeast Asia. Many of these are fantastic; 'Àma Gloria', 'The second mother', 'Lina from Lima', 'Roma', 'The maid', 'Ilo Ilo', 'The chambermaid', Etc.
But I did not expect for the documentary YAYA (2018) to emerge as the most touching of this week's movies. A young filmmaker in Hong Kong, Justin Cheung, turned the camera on his own family, to explore their relationship with the woman who took care of him the first 22 years of his life.
Philippine Au-pairs in Hong Kong are some of the most exploited and abused workers in the world. And while his helper-maid was not mistreated, she gave up her own life to take care of somebody else's kids. Recommended! 8/10.
🍿
FELLINI X 2:
🍿 (I have no idea why I never seen this masterpiece.) LA STRADA (1954), is the sad and poignant story of simple-minded Giulietta Masina, who was sold to 'brutish strongman' Anthony Quinn for 10,000 lire. She's a mythic, Chaplinesque 'Fool' who's being abused and mistreated as she joins him traveling round the countryside in their little freak-show. Until she dies of a heartbreak. Its tragedy is accented by Nino Rosi's sentimental score. 8/10.
🍿 THE MAGIC HOUR (2008), my second screwball comedy [After 'Welcome back, Mr. McDonald'] by Kōki Mitani, "The Best Japanese Filmmaker You've Never Heard Of". A failed bit actor gets a job to play a mysterious hit man, not realizing that the movie he's starring in is going to be 'real'. It's a lighthearted meta-film about making a movie, not unlike 'Day for night', but set in some seaport gangster-land. It's like 'Casablanca' but with a Nino Rosi like score. Includes a cameo of director Kon Ichikawa, the last before his death.
🍿
3 MORE BY KEN LOACH:
🍿 THE OLD OAK, the latest (and probably his very last film) from the 88-year-old socialist Brit. A warm and 'humane' story full of small and heartfelt emotions, it kept me in tears from opening to the end. Ordinary people who suffer in so many ways. The inhabitants of a decaying ex-mining town can barely manage to hang on, and now they have to deal with a group of Syrian refugees - "Foreigners!" - who had lost it all in the war, and are being repatriated to their midst. Loach's films are usually about working-class Brits who's been getting the shaft for generations, and sometimes retain their humanity. And so is this one. 9/10.
🍿 “First they called you a terrorist, they they called you a hero”.
11′09″01 SEPTEMBER 11 is an anthology film from 2002. Eleven filmmakers contributed each a segment of 11 minutes and 9 seconds with different perspectives on the World Trade Center attacks. Some of the productions were better than others. Ken Loach had a Chilean exile in London write a letter to the families of the victims with the story of the Chilean September 11 attack of democracy (1973/CIA/Kissinger/Pinochet). In the Iranian segment, a teacher in a refugee camp was trying unsuccessfully to tell her young pupils about the attack. A poor boy in Burkina Faso imagined that he saw Osama bin Ladin in the market, and that he can use the $25M reward money to help his dying mom. Claude Lelouch told of a deaf French woman who sits next to the TV, but misses the news because she can't hear it. A Bosnian woman goes to the scheduled demonstration about the Srebrenica massacre. Etc. A mixed bag.
🍿 TIME TO GO is his 1989 documentary, pushing for British withdrawal from Northern Ireland. I actually don't know more than the average laymen about Irish history, so I need to take a reading course about the "Troubles" and what brought it.
🍿
Another first watch: TRAINSPOTTING (1996). There were half a dozen films which I avoided until now, because I felt, rightly or wrongly, that they are too distressing: 'Requiem for a dream', Lars von Trier's 'Melancholia' (actually, all his movies), 'Salò', 'Funny Games' (both versions), 'A Serbian film', 'Kids', Etc. But now that I crossed 'Come and see' off this list, I also took a stab at this disgusting Scottish Heroin-chic shite-storm. Now I can say that I saw it too.
Well, I like Kelly Macdonald, and didn't expect her debut in an under-aged sex scene... Another plus, an appropriate use for Lou Reed's 'A perfect day'.
🍿
TIME PIECE, a terrific experimental 9-minute short by Jim Hanson which was nominated for an Oscar in 1965. A rhythmic masterpiece: "Help!" 8/10.
Extra: ROBOT (1963), another prophetic Hanson short, precursor to 'HAL9000'. I'm sure that both these films will be mentioned in his new bio-pic.
🍿
2 EARLY FILMS BY LINDSAY ANDERSON:
🍿 THE WHITE BUS (1967) told of a a taciturn young woman without a name who takes a double-Decker bus tour in a city without a future to experience some bizarre scenes without any rhyme or reason. It includes some surrealistic flourishes (A sudden tableaux of 'Le Dejeuner sur l'Herbe', a fantasy about suicide, a long tour in the library where the pompous major keeps complaining about filthy books...). But what is the point of it all?
It was edited by Kevin Brownlow, and filmed by Miroslav Ondříček, But it will mostly be remembered as the film debut of one 30-year-old Anthony Hopkins, as a German Thespian reciting Brecht. 2/10.
🍿 O DREAMLAND (1953) is a macabre documentary short about a loud amusement park in Margate, Kent, and the multitudes of middle class patrons (and their many children) who visit it without much amusement in their eyes. It's melancholy and miserable and dour. 7/10. A fun Fair without the fun. (Screenshot Above).
🍿
"This guy is a one-man crime wave!"
FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE (1926), one of Harold Lloyd's most successful films. Including some great chase and slapstick gags.
🍿
The first time I saw DEREK DELGAUDIO's IN & OF ITSELF, I was blown away. The next 2 or 3 times I thought it was great. There's something that compelled me to return to this Magician-"Mentlist" installation piece again and again. But after 4 or 5 times, i realize what he's doing, and his shtick is not as polished as f. ex. Derren Brown's. Yes, he has a few numbers that looks fantastic (A random audience member picks a random letter from a pile, and opens it to read a personal letter from her dying father... The final sketch where he "knows" what secret cards did each and every member of the audience had picked), but for the rest, he's mostly manipulates us with shaggy anecdotes and tall tales of personal pains. And really, they are not as profound as he wants us to believe they are.
🍿
Hiroshi Teshigahara's HOKUSAI is a 1953 documentary about the woodblock artist, but a bit too old fashioned. I recently saw his 'The face of another', and should have watched 'Woman in the dunes' instead.
🍿
THE SUITCASE was episode 7 of 4th season of 'Mad Men', the exact middle of the series (46/92). I've seen it numerous times, and it's still one of the most emotionally gripping. Jon Hamm will never be as perfect as he was as Don Draper. And it's pretty amazing that he and Peggy Olsen never even kissed, let alone sleep together. 10/10. Re-watch ♻️. [*Female Director*]
🍿
"If there's one thing about me, it's repetition"...
My first by British comedian Steward Lee, his latest LIVE AT THE LOWRY came recommended by Hoots maguire, so here I am. Lee is a different kind of a stand-up: Dry, self-referential, erudite, and circular. His improvisations are jazzy. Recommended.
🍿
2 ALTERNATIVE-QUEER ANIMATIONS:
🍿 THE FINAL EXIT OF THE DISCIPLES OF ASCENSIA (2019) is a strange - and weird - story made by one young Jonni Peppers. It is done very much in the aesthetics, and spirit, of Don Hertzfeldt's 'World of Tomorrow', although it's far from being that coherent. A confused young woman joins an all-women UFO-cult, which, like the Heaven's Gate dudes, eventually "ascends". It doesn't really have a clear message, but it has quiet a few moments of beauty. Peppers is working with Victoria Vincent, whose film 'A dog that smokes weed' I've admired. The two songs she plays are very pretty. [*Female Director*]
🍿 HOW TO FIND LOVE IN AN UNBECOMING AGE, a first film by a young lesbian about hot dating today. Could become a series. 7/10. [*Female Director*]
🍿
3 MORE SHORTS BY FEMALE DIRECTORS:
🍿 3 MINUTOS (1999), a short Brazilian masterpiece. The phone rings in a kitchen, and the answering machine picks it up. A woman's voice is telling him that she decided to leave. Recommended. 9/10.
[This is actually the second film by Ana Luíza Azevedo I've seen. She co-directed 'Barbosa' with Jorge Furtado.]
🍿 LIKE TWENTY IMPOSSIBLES, my first by Palestinian Annemarie Jacir. A small Palestinian film crew is trying to cross a border checkpoint, and is subject to humiliating abuse by the Israeli soldiers. There were other films about the exact topic, the grinding brutality, the hopeless struggle just to stay human - "The cruelty is the point". And this was made in 2003, before the whole occupied territories turned into the big concentration camp it is today.
I promised myself that I will stop watching these traumatic films, and I will. But surprise! When the credits rolled, it appeared that this horrible true-to-life documentary was actually "Fiction"! The ugly film was so realistic, that it was a huge relief to discover it was "Only Art". 8/10.
🍿 THE INCREDIBLE THEFT OF CELINE'S BELOVED (2020), a cute French love letter to Wes Anderson. A 14 year old girl receives a surprise package in the mail. It's as if girl herself directed this story. 6/10. [*3 Female Directors*]
🍿
2 EARLY SHORTS BY RIAN JOHNSON:
🍿 I started watching his heist story 'The Brothers Bloom', but couldn't finish it. Maybe I'll do it next week. Meanwhile I tried -
In BEN BOYER AND THE PHENOMENOLOGY OF AUTOMOBILE MARKETING, the voice of Carl Jung approaches a guy taking a shit with an archetypal explanation through the air-filter vent. The topic? The subconscious meaning of car brand logos. Made for $99 in 2001. With Pink Floyd 'Atom Heart Mother' score.
🍿 In THE PSYCHOLOGY OF DREAM ANALYSIS (2003) a young woman dreams somebody else's dreams. A student film that feels like one. 2/10.

Today is two years from the day of the Manchester bombings.
Two years ago, on May 22, at a concert of Ariana Grande in Manchester, a terrorist attack occurred in which 23 people died 139 were injured and an incalculable number of people suffered psychological trauma for the rest of their lives.
Today I want to remember all the innocent people who just went to the concert of the beloved singer and never return home.
John Atkinson 28 years old - John was always an amazingly happy gentle person and loved dancing.
Courtney Boyle, a 19-year-old from Gateshead, was killed at the concert alongside her stepfather Philip Tron.. Her boyfriend said she was “an adventurer, a precious and joyous soul”. He said: “She made people feel loved and feel safe. She was a soulmate, a friend, a daughter and a sister. No one had what that lass had, she was like no other.”
Philip Tron, 32, was remembered by his family as a "fun loving, energetic soul." "Philip was such a fun loving, energetic soul, he would light up the darkest room and lift your spirits with his infectious laugh, witty sense of humor and his beautiful smile," Tron's mother said in a statement.
Kelly Brewster, 32, was killed in the explosion while shielding her niece from the blast, her family said. Kelly and her boyfriend Ian the day before the attack a deposit on a house and planned the birth of a child.
Georgina Callander, 18. The 18-year-old had tweeted at the pop star the day before the concert. "So excited to see u tomorrow," she posted ahead of the show. She grew up in Lankshire, a county in the north-west of England. Callander attended the second year of a 3-year health and social care program. Georgina was a lovely young student who was very popular with her peers and the staff and always made the most of the opportunities she had at the school.
Olivia Campbell, a 15-year-old girl who attended the concert with her friend. Campbell told her daughter called from the venue before the attack. "It was half past 8. She said the acts were amazing. She was waiting for Ariana to come on, she was so happy. She thanked me and said she loved me and that was the last I heard from her," she said.
Brother and sister Chloe Rutherford, 17, and Liam Curry, 19. The two "were perfect in every way for each other and were meant to be." "Chloe always described herself as ditzy, who Liam adored and would do anything for, including dealing with Chloe's demands for chocolate," the families said. The two loved to travel together, exploring new cities. "They wanted to be together forever and now they are," the tribute said.
Wendy Fawell, 50, a mum from Leeds, was picking up her children with a friendwhen the blast hit – she was confirmed as dead after a desperate appeal to find her.
Martyn Hett, a 29-year-old man from Greater Manchester, was named as one of the victims by his brother, Dan Hett. Those who knew him well described his love of American divas, 1980s fashion and the Eurovision song contest. He was also an avid Coronation Street fan, and had a distinctive tattoo of Deirdre Barlow on his leg. "Martyn was the icon of all our lives. His infectious laugh and his niche sense of humour will stay with us forever," Hett's family said in a statement.
Alison Howe,45, was at the Manchester Arena with a friend to pick up their daughters. Her husband, Steve Howe, told affiliate ITV that his daughter, Darcy, called after the explosion, saying her mother wouldn't answer her phone. Howe called his wife and then a friend who worked at the arena. He said he had hoped his wife was unable to answer her phone because she was unconscious. Howe and her friend Lisa Lees were killed.Howe's son Jason called his stepmother caring and beautiful. "She was amazing to us all," Jason Howe said.
Megan Hurley, a 15-year-old student from Halewood was killed in the attack. The family requested that no photo of Hurley be posted in the media.
Nell Jones, 14, According to the statement, one of her teachers, David Wheeler, said: "Nell was a very popular girl, always smiling, always positive. Her tutor group have been together since the transition from primary school. It feels like they have lost a sister not a classmate."
Michelle Kiss, 45, from Lancashire. The mother of three was described in the statement as a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Kiss had gone to the concert with her daughter Millie, a fan of Ariana Grande who recently starred in Annie the Musical in Liverpool.
Angelika Klis, 40, and Marcin Klis, 42, lived and worked in York. On Tuesday the couple’s daughter shared an appeal to find her parents, who had not been seen since the attack. Poland’s foreign minister, Witold Waszczykowski, said a couple who had been waiting for their daughters at the arena had been killed.
Sorrell Leczkowski. The 14-year-old was described as “a delightful member of the school community”. She was going to be an architect and wanted to go to Columbia University in New York to study so that she could build hotels with slides coming out of the rooms and, so that she could build her mum a house,". Leczkowski, from Adel, Leeds, was with her mother and grandmother when she died -- they were both injured in the bombing.
Lisa Lees, 47. Lisa was waiting for her daughter in the foyer of Manchester Arena with her friend, Alison Howe, when the bomb exploded. Lisa was married and the mother of two children. Lees graduated last year from university and won an award in London for her work with children with mental health issues.
Eilidh MacLeod, 14. Eilidh was vivacious and full of fun. She loved all music whether it was listening to Ariana or playing the bagpipes with her pipe band. Eilidh loved nothing more than spending time with those she loved, both family and friends alike. She loved socialising whether through social media or spending time with them down on the beaches of both Barra and Vatersay. Her love of music was unsurpassed and she enjoyed her time playing, travelling and competing in the Pipe Bands immensely. MacLeod was at the concert with her friend, Laura MacIntyre, who was injured.
43-year-old Elaine McIver was married and the mother of two children. "Elaine was a much loved daughter, sister, auntie, friend and colleague, the best we could ever have wished for," McIver's family said in a statement. "She was everyone's friend, thoughtful beyond belief with an effervescent and outgoing personality." "Elaine just loved life, and had a major love of music. Despite what has happened to her, she would want us all to carry on regardless and not be frightened by fear tactics, instead she regularly urged us all to rise up against it," they added.
8-year-old Saffie Rose Roussos described as a "beautiful little girl," was among those killed in a bomb attack. "Saffie was simply a beautiful little girl in every aspect of the word," Chris Upton, headteacher at Tarleton Community Primary School, said. "She was loved by everyone and her warmth and kindness will be remembered fondly. Saffie was quiet and unassuming with a creative flair."
Police officer. After the explosion, a woman who worked in the Manchester police also died. She went to a concert after work with her husband, who was in critical condition, and two children who were also victims of the explosion.
Jane Tweddle, 51, a mother of three, came to the Manchester Arena with a friend who was supposed to pick up her daughter after the concert.Jane lived in Blackpool, where she worked as a secretary in a school. According to the school director, she was a wonderful colleague and a cheerful, cheerful, kind and generous person.
rest in peace . one love

For Mostafa, a gay Egyptian man in his mid-20s, seeing rainbow flags flying at an open-air rock concert in the Arab world’s most populous nation was thrilling. But he had a feeling it wouldn’t end well.
Dozens of people have been arrested and put on trial in Egypt in the ensuing crackdown. Some were also beaten and subjected to invasive physical exams, spreading panic in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender circles.
Many of Mostafa’s friends are deleting their profiles on cellphone dating apps and scrubbing their social media accounts, which police have long used to ensnare people suspected of being gay or transgender. Some who were at last month’s concert have gone into hiding. There has even been talk of fleeing the country.
“The problem is that no one can tell the limit of this crackdown and how far it might go,” said Mostafa, a community activist who asked to be identified by one name, for fear that he too might be swept up by police. “There was an incredible amount of hate speech by the media and by people on social media. Everyone I know is depressed and fearful.”
It’s not the first time that the Egyptian authorities have gone after gay and transgender people. In one particularly notorious case, 52 men were put on trial at once after a high-profile raid on Cairo’s Queen Boat nightclub in 2001.
The “Arab Spring” uprising that toppled Egyptian strongman Hosni Mubarak a decade later brought some respite for the city’s embattled LGBT community, whose members were able to socialize more openly at house parties and bars.
But that respite came to an abrupt end after the military takeover that brought President Abdel Fattah Sisi to power in 2013. Hundreds of gay and transgender people have been rounded up, part of a broad crackdown that has seen political dissidents jailed, public protests harshly put down and the country’s once vibrant civil society quashed.
Still, human rights activists say the scale of this latest assault on Egypt’s LGBT population is unprecedented. At least 65 people were detained around the country in three weeks, according to a local rights group, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights. Of those, 20 were sentenced to prison terms ranging from six months to six years, and four were released. Cases against the rest are pending.
Almost every day brings word of new arrests, according to the group’s lawyers, who are scrambling to keep up with the caseload.
They include Mohamed Alaa, a 21-year-old law student who was photographed at the concert waving a rainbow flag, and Sara Hegazy, 28, the only woman identified so far among the detainees. Both are being questioned by state security prosecutors who usually investigate terrorism cases.
Homosexuality is not specifically outlawed in Egypt, but authorities there have a history of using a 1961 law that prohibits “debauchery” to target the population. The accusations against Alaa and Hegazy are more serious. They include membership in an illegal organization, a charge also used against the government’s Islamist opponents.
“The Egyptian authorities tend to view challenge to authority in any sense in a deeply uncharitable fashion — and seem to have interpreted the raising of the rainbow flag very much in that way,” said H.A. Hellyer, a nonresident fellow at the Atlantic Council, a Washington think tank.
The crackdown began after a Sept. 22 concert in Cairo by the Lebanese indie-rock group Mashrou’ Leila, whose lead singer, Hamed Sinno, is one of the few openly gay performers in the Middle East.
It was a special show for the band, which was twice barred from performing in Jordan over accusations of not respecting the country’s traditions and beliefs. More than 30,000 people attended, and several of them raised rainbow flags.
“Cairo! This was one of the best shows we've ever played!” the band said on its Facebook page. “So much love!”
Excited fans shared photographs and video of the rainbow flags on social media. The backlash was swift and brutal.
Influential TV talk show hosts and newspaper columnists denounced the flag wavers as “sexual deviants” and suggested they were part of a foreign-backed plot to destabilize the country.
Al Azhar University, the center of Islamic learning in this mostly conservative Muslim country, said it would be organizing sermons and lectures to “fortify youth against these deviant thoughts.” St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral announced a conference on what it termed a “volcano of homosexuality.”
Responding to the public outcry, Egypt’s top prosecutor, Nabil Sadek, ordered an investigation into the flag waving.
Days later, Egypt’s media regulatory body issued an order prohibiting coverage that promotes or legitimizes homosexuality, which it labeled a “sickness and disgrace.” It also barred homosexual people from appearing in the media, unless it is to repent. The pro-government musicians union announced it would no longer issue permits to foreign performers unless they obtain security clearance.
“Perhaps certain officials are embarrassed that they didn’t catch this beforehand,” said Timothy E. Kaldas, a nonresident fellow at the Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy in Washington. “It’s not exactly hard to know Mashrou’ Leila’s politics on LGBT issues … and they approved the concert.”
“The question is,” Kaldas said, “to what extent is this the government responding to pressure, and to what extent is it also an opportunity to distract the population from its other failings?”
Despite signs of economic revival, the cost of living has skyrocketed in Egypt, and salaries and pensions have not kept pace. Unemployment remains punishingly high, especially among the young; corruption is rampant, and terrorist attacks are on the rise.
The first suspect was taken into custody the day after the concert. Police used a fake profile on a dating app to lure the 19-year-old man to a place where officers were waiting, then searched his phone for incriminating material.
“By coincidence, they found photos of the concert,” said Dalia Abdel Hameed, who heads the gender program at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights. “So they spun the narrative that they had arrested him as one of the flag bearers.”
He was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of debauchery and inciting debauchery.
“Most of the people arrested had nothing to do with the concert or the flag,” Abdel Hameed said. “These were men who were frequenting gay-friendly cafes or using dating apps or sometimes even arrested for looking or acting too gay in the street.” Alaa and Hegazy were tracked down a week later through images from the concert shared on social media.
In a poignant video posted before his arrest, Alaa expressed dismay at the vitriolic response to his gesture, including death threats from his home village. Though he is not gay, according to his lawyers, he said he had borrowed a flag from another audience member to support the band’s lead singer. (The video has since been taken down.)
Hegazy, who denies she was one of the flag wavers, told her lawyers that she was sexually harassed and beaten in a holding cell on her first night in custody after police informed fellow inmates about the reason for her arrest.
At least five men were subjected to anal exams to determine whether they had had gay sex a practice that leading rights groups including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch say amounts to torture.
The five members of Mashrou’ Leila were on a plane bound for the United States when news broke about the arrests. At first, they said, they stayed silent out of fear that a statement from them might further inflame Egyptian authorities. But on Oct. 2, they issued a statement denouncing the “demonization and prosecution of victimless acts between consenting adults.”
“It is sickening to think that all this hysteria has been generated over a couple of kids raising a piece of cloth that stands for love,” the band said.
Mostafa, the gay activist, is wondering whether the time has come for him to leave Egypt. Many gay and transgender people who have the means have already done so.
But for all the hatred directed against his community, he said, there has also been an outpouring of support on social media.
“That would not have been the case a few years ago,” he said. “Despite the tactics becoming more brutal, there is dialogue around the issue.”

Ariana Grande’s actions prove her heart is full of genuine love for the world.
Ariana Grande’s actions prove her heart is full of genuine love for the world.
When you hear the word Hollywood, what comes to mind? Could it be fame, money, luxurious lifestyles and their influence?
Honestly, there is no right or wrong answer. Hollywood is filled with positive and negative influences, it’s not a secret.
That’s why celebrities who are positive examples are so important to the industry. In fact, if you think about it, you can compare this to your own workplace. There are always positive people and those who are difficult.
True charity is the desire to be useful to others with no thought of recompense. – Emanuel Swedenborg
Hollywood is filled with positive influences including Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Mac Miller, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Selena Gomez.
In fact, each of these artists took the time to share their own battles in an effort to help others in the world.
For example, when the Manchester attack happened, which killed 22 concertgoers and injured more than 500 other individuals.
Grande couldn’t sleep without giving back and helping those in need. And what she did next was absolutely beautiful.
The Manchester Attack
After the Manchester attack, Ariana Grande felt sad. I mean, can you imagine how it would feel to have one of your events crashed by evil terrorists? As a human being, I can only imagine the pain and heartache she felt for those who were in attendance.
To further illustrate, she took to social media to share her emotions.
“My heart, prayers and deepest condolences are with the victims of the Manchester Attack and their loved ones.
There is nothing I or anyone can do to take away the pain you are feeling or to make this better.
However, I extend my hand and heart and everything I possibly can give to you and yours, should you want or need my help in any way.
The only thing we can do now is choose how we let this affect us and how we live our lives from here on out.
I have been thinking of my fans and of you all, non-stop over the past week. The way you have handled all of this has been more inspiring and made me more proud than you’ll ever know.
The compassion, kindness, love, strength, and oneness that you’ve shown one another this past week is the exact opposite of the heinous intentions it must take to pull off something as evil as what happened Monday.
YOU are the opposite.
I am sorry for the pain and fear that you must be feeling and for the trauma that you, too, must be experiencing.
We will never be able to understand why events like this take place because it is not in our nature, which is why we shouldn’t recoil.”
– Ariana Grande
As a result of the attack, Ariana Grande and her manager Scooter Braun put their heads together to make a positive difference. The time had come to show these terrorists they cannot stop love, they cannot stop us from gathering, celebrating music and showing compassion for one another, they will never win.
The gorgeous 25-year-old singer worked hard to pull together The One Love Manchester benefit concert and it was perfect beyond, leaving many feeling empathies, love, acceptance and kindness for one another.
Beauty comes in many shapes and sizes. And Ariana Grande? Well, she’s just one of the many beautiful things we got to witness during the Manchester benefit concert.
The classy lady was joined by many other high-profile talent including Justin Bieber, Mac Miller, Ariana Grande, the Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Marcus Mumford, Niall Horan, Little Mix, Katy Perry, Take That, Imogen Heap, Pharrell Williams, Robbie Williams, and Liam Gallagher.
Ariana Grande is a positive influence for so many people, including those who were fans during her “Victorious,” television series days.
One fan told PCG how he stumbled upon Ariana Grande and how she has influenced his life.
“In 2010, during the height of my prolonged unemployment, I stumbled onto Victorious. Yes, the show is geared toward children, however, the simplicity of a television program was a necessary distraction from falling into emotional despair. The adorable actress with the red hair caught my attention. She role-played her character so well that it brightened my mood. You just had to keep on rooting for her.”
Another fan Jess Morgan opened up about the tragedy. She said:
“These past few weeks have been tough for every single person! When I first heard about what happened at Ariana Grande’s concert, I was shocked. I didn’t want to believe it! Hearing the passing of the incredible people and the injured was terrifying. Ariana and her team did absolutely amazing and their response was outstanding. I heard what she planned to do which she offered to pay for the funeral and doing a benefit concert. Honestly, she is brave and fearless. She gathered numerous artists together on one stage and fans come from all over the world to come together to celebrate the lives of the people who sadly passed away! The way she and her team did this was brilliant as at the concert you could not sent fear anywhere it was all filled with love and braveness! When everyone sang especially Ariana you could tell the passion she was giving. She has coped so so well during this tough time! She deserves everything she is an inspiration to young teens. I love her so so much

A fan who can be found on Twitter, shared how he first learned about Ariana Grande.
“A few years passed and I later learned that she came out with an album (This sounds awkward), but her music is cheerful. Being an actress and singer are two entities, yet it was pleasant that she was not typecast.
It was natural for me to still be in her fan base since she helped me during a difficult period. As a guy in his now mid-30s, it is a bit frightening to acknowledge how I initially found out about Ariana Grande.
The prejudice and stereotypes usual pop out. Her duet with the Weeknd, definitely highlighted that she was able to break free from that teenybopper image.
Side-to-Side and Focus music videos depict her as the confident, kick-ass woman.”
He also gained more admiration for the singer after the Manchester benefit concert.
“I admired her for returning across the Atlantic. Adding “I cannot think of other entertainers that would have done what she did. imagined other people might have easily stopped touring, just briefly. Yet, she did it. She is not this diva character that the media tends to categorize her as.” He continued. “Entertainment is always a distraction from reality. She wanted that locality a moment to relax. Also, it might show that she too needed comfort or closure by returning.”
Scooter Braun (Ariana Grande’s manager) opened up about the event when he walked onto the One Love Manchester benefit concert stage.
“To my friend Ariana Grande and the entire Dangerous Woman crew, myself and all of us around the world are so grateful for you for stepping up and taking action. We also want to thank the Manchester first responders and all the bystanders who are probably here tonight, who risk their lives to save others, please give a round of applause to them.”
“I also want to say, prepared words, before we introduce my friend Ariana.
And Uh, putting those words aside for a second, last night this nation was challenged were challenged and all of you were challenged and you had a decision to make if you were going to come out here tonight.
And this is so beautiful.
You guys made that decision, you guys looked fear right in the face and said “no we are Manchester,” and the world is watching.”
As you can see, Ari’s influence has gone above and beyond the normal “expectations,” of her job in entertainment.
Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez & Seth Rogen at WE Day! Yay for charity!
It’s true, celebrities have a tight and busy schedule, they have their own contracts and deadlines just as we do in life. And even though our lives are busy, some of us still get out and volunteer to make a difference.
Ari is no different than us, she seeks to make a positive impact not only with her musical talents but with her actions.
Did you know Ariana Grande also supports other causes?

Feminists use Manchester bombing to push their ideology before bodies even cold
On May 22, 2017 at approximately 22:30 local time a suicide bomber set off an explosive at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England after an Ariana Grande concert had finished. Current count has 23 killed and at least 120 injured.
More information is still coming out as the investigation continues. However, this didn't stop writers from Slate and Salon, no more than 24-hours after the attack, from using the bombing as a springboard to claim that not only were women and girls specifically target, but they are victims of massive societal oppression.
The Bombing at a Manchester Ariana Grande Show Was an Attack on Girls and Women" by Slate's Christina Cauterucci was (assuming U.S. Eastern Standard Time on the byline) published less than 6 hours after the bombing. Even now the true motives of the bomber are still being investigated, but 6 hours after the fact Cauterucci seemed perfectly comfortable suggesting the attack was in retaliation for pop-singer supposedly challenging the big, bad Patrichary.
"Like her pop-superstar predecessor Britney Spears, Grande has advanced a renegade, self-reflexive sexuality that’s threatening to the established heteropatriarchal order. If the Manchester bombing was an act of terrorism, its venue indicates that the attack was designed to terrorize young girls who idolize Grande’s image." [emphasis added]
Cauterucci even tries to subtlety weave in undertones of rape and slut-shaming:
Grande has long been the target of sexist rhetoric that has deemed her culpable for any sexual objectification or animosity that’s come her way. Her songs and wardrobe are sexy, yet she’s maintained a coy, youthful persona; the combination has led some haters to argue that she’s made her fortune by making people want to have sex with her, so whatever related harm befalls her is entirely her fault. [emphasis added]
It's confusing what Cauterucci is even suggesting here. Is she suggesting the bomber was some kind of misogynist Grande-hater? It doesn't help Cauterucci's point that attackers didn't appear to make any concentrated effort to harm Grande. The bomb went off after the concert ended, which makes sense if your goal is take out as many people as possible (people crowd together up as they rush for exists), but not if you are trying to assassinate Grande. Cauterucci even acknowledges that the attack didn't explicitly target women and girls, just a venue where there were likely to be a many women and girls:
"The victims of Monday’s bombing will almost certainly be mostly girls and women. The Grande fan demographic also includes a number of older millennial women, gay men, and general lovers of pop music, of course, but her live concerts are largely populated by tween and teenage girls and their moms."
Of course, Cauterucci doesn't have a break down of the gender ratio of the victims, because it hadn't (and still hasn't) been released. At the time Cauterucci published her article, the causality toll hadn't even been settled (Cauterucci's article still lists the death toll at 19 and the injury count at 50). Cauterucci doesn't even try to give us hard data about the gender/age makeup of the concert or Grande's fan base in general.
Salon article is worse
A Salon article entitled "Manchester was an attack on girls" by Mary Elizabeth Williams, is basically the same as the Slate article, but dialed up a few notches. It's more emotional, more bombastic and says even less. This is impressive, since (unlike Slate) Salon waited a full 19 and a half hours after the attack to publish this gem. Almost a full day!
Williams unconvincingly tries to show that young girls are constantly crushed by societal oppression and find brief precious moments of freedom in Ariana Grande's music.
"If you just happen to not be a girl or don’t live with girls, I want to tell you how truly spectacular they are and what they’re up against every goddamn day. I want to remind you what a refuge pop music is — music that speaks to you, without judgment. That makes you feel safe and joyful in a culture that seems to purposefully and ceaselessly try to tear you down. One that seeks to punish you for how you dress, that trivializes your interests and your icons, that obsesses over guarding your purity."
Williams mentions how some people wrote some not nice things on social media (with little evidence to back it up). Perhaps a high crime in the feminist world, but less concerning to most of us, especially when the subject is a deadly bombing. Williams article mostly boils down to 8-paragraphs of emotional venting about how wonderful and oppressed girls are:
"They are so, so strong, these girls — yes, these girls with their goofy Snapchat streaks and their mermaid hair and their willingness to love things unironically. Their courage and their grace would knock you out. And if you want to know what ferocious resilience looks like, take a look sometime at a young girl and her bestie, sharing a set of earbuds and dancing, in spite of it all."
Remember all of those terrorists attacks that targeted men
In all fairness, the attacker may have targeted the concert because it seemed like they would be many women and girls there (or maybe just because it was an event with lots of people). Unlike Slate and Salon, I'm waiting for the police investigation to be complete. I don't know the attacker's motivation. My point is that neither do Cauterucci and Williams, but that didn't stop them from writing their articles less than 24 hours after the bombing.
If the bomber was trying to kill a high number of women and girls, I imagine it was increase the perceived tragedy of the attack (because under "patriarchy" the deaths of women are seen as uniquely tragic for some reason).
Of course, Cauterucci and Williams really start going off rails by trying to spin the bombing into evidence of widespread oppression of women and/or girls. Here is a riddle for you. If bombing a concert where the fan base is likely mostly female is sexist, what is a shooting at club primarily catering to gay men? You would think Cauterucci and Williams might have asked themselves this question, since they both brought up the 2016 Orlando Pulse nightclub shooting in their articles as an example of terrorist/societal oppression.
Was that attack not specifically targeting men? 45 out of 49 of those killed were men (I can't find stats on the other 53 wounded). Now you might argue, that was because they were gay, not because they were men. I guess there just weren't any good lesbian clubs to shoot up. Maybe the bomber didn't mind women, just those pop-music fan women. But rather then splitting hairs over idiotic identity politics, let's have another example. How about the Charlie Hebo Massacre where attackers deliberately and systematically targeted men:
"After culling the women from the men, the victims were mercilessly shot at point-blank range, said Gerald Kierzek, a doctor who spoke to CNN after treating the stunned survivors."
""Sigolene Vinson, a freelance journalist attending the paper’s weekly editorial meeting, hit the floor and hid behind a partition but was grabbed by a gunman who pointed his AK-47 at her head. "You, we will not kill, because we don’t kill women. But read the Quran,” the gunman warned her, before repeatedly shouting “Allahu akbar” — Arabic for “God is great.”"
The Mirror seems to provide a slightly different quote from the attacker:
"She said the man told her: “I’m not killing you because you are a woman and we don’t kill women but you have to convert to Islam, read the Qu'ran and wear a veil.” She added that as the man left, he shouted “Allahu akbar, allahu akbar.""
Another Mirror article adds even more detail:
"She said Saïd Kouachi [one of the gunmen] turned towards the editorial room where his brother Chérif had shot Elsa Cayat[a woman], another Charlie writer, and shouted: “We don’t kill women,” three times. The men then left.""
Out of the 12 fatalities, Cayat was the only women. Furthermore, it seems one of the gunmen chewed the other out for killing her. It is unknown why she was the only female victim. There is suspicion that it may be because she was Jewish.
Feminists may counter these attacks don't count because they were committed by men. It doesn't matter. This is the problem with engaging feminist gender warriors. They treat the sexes like two sides in a war and one side (always the male side) has to be fault. You can't just blame ideologies or (God forbid) individuals. The point I'm making is that these terrorists attacks that largely targeted men were not considered sexist (and sexism was definitely not considered the main motivating factor), so there is no grounds to call the Manchester bombing sexist (especially when you don't know the motivation of the attacker).
The smart money is the attacker's motivate was Islamic terrorism. If so, then trying to cram the attack into a simplistic feminist gender war paradigm hinders seriously needed discussion about Islamic radicalization in the U.K.
More To Say
There is a lot more I could write about this because it touches so many nerves: how men are considered the socially acceptable recipients of violence, how tragedy is portrayed as uniquely tragic when it befalls a women("Earth destroyed - women most affected"), how men are genderless "victims" in a tragedy unless they are the villains, how feminists falls over themselves to defend an Islam that would destroy most of the basic freedoms Western women enjoy. Don't even get me started about the state of gender politics in the U.K. It's a country where vaguely defined "misogyny" has been made punishable by law and the courts punish men for rape after they have been found innocent.
There are also reports of a possible female accomplice in the bombings. What could this do the feminist narrative if it pans out?
However, I'll just stop here after pointing out that after the explosion, a nearby homeless man decided to take a break from enjoying his male privilege to help the wounded. But, you know, fuck patriarchy.

London attacks: At least 6 dead, more than 40 injured after van ramming, stabbings
Six people were killed and more than 40 others were hospitalized after a series of terror attacks struck on and around London Bridge late Saturday night.
The horror began around 10 p.m. local time when a white van veered off the road and barreled into pedestrians on London Bridge. Three men jumped out of the van with large knives and attacked people at bars and restaurants in nearby Borough Market, police and witnesses said.
The London Ambulance Service said 48 people were treated in five hospitals across the city. London The service said that 80 medics responded to the scene. London Mayor Sadiq Khan said Sunday that some of the injured were in critical condition.
British Transport Police added that one officer suffered serious injuries responding to the attack, but was expected to survive. The officer suffered wounds to the head, face and leg.
The Metropolitan Police force declared the attacks "terrorist incidents." Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said that while they believe all the attackers were killed, the investigation continued.
"We believe three people were involved, but we still have got some more inquiries to do to be 100 percent confident in that," he said.
As dawn broke over the capital, a large area on the south bank of the River Thames remained cordoned off. Police told people to avoid the area, leaving tourists and revelers struggling to get home.
Only hours before, bursts of gunfire echoed through the streets likely from armed police and at least three blasts rang out as officers performed controlled explosions. One image taken by a witness showed a man on the ground surrounded by police; he appeared to be wearing a vest with canisters attached to it.
"The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests," Rowley said. "But these were later established to hoaxes."
Gerard Vowls told The Guardian newspaper that he saw a woman being stabbed by three men at the south end of London Bridge. He said he threw chairs, glasses and bottles at the attackers in a bid to stop them.
"They kept coming to try to stab me. They were stabbing everyone. Evil, evil people," he told the newspaper. "I want to know if this girl is still alive. I've been walking around for an hour and a half crying my eyes out. I don't know what to do."
Bartender Alex Martinez said he hid in a garbage bin for a half hour when a man stormed the restaurant where he worked, which was nearly full.
"I saw that man with a knife in his hand and after that a man started screaming so I knew something wrong was happening," he said.
Some witnesses told Sky News and BBC that attacks shouted This is for Allah. But police have not confirmed the account.
Police initially said officers were also responding to a third incident, in the Vauxhall neighborhood, but later said that turned out to be an unrelated stabbing.
Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed the attack "is being treated as a potential act of terrorism" and said her thoughts were with "those who are caught up in these dreadful events." Her office said she would chair a meeting of the government's COBRA emergency committee on Sunday.
May and U.S. President Donald Trump were briefed on the matter.
Speaking to Fox News from London, Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly said the latest attacks mark the fourth or fifth time he's had to call his British counterpart in just four months on the job because of "terrible events like this."
It was the third attack to hit Britain in as many months.
In March, a British convert to Islam ran down people with a vehicle on Westminster Bridge, killing four, then stabbed a policeman to death outside Parliament.
On May 22, a British suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured dozens at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. After that attack, Britain's official threat level from terrorism was raised to "critical," meaning an attack may be imminent. Several days later it was lowered to "severe," meaning an attack is highly likely.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Billie Eilish shouts out Ariana Grande at Grammys, but Grande’s fans say she was snubbed
Rasha Ali, USA TODAY Published 9:55 a.m. ET Jan. 27, 2020 | Updated 12:14 p.m. ET Jan. 27, 2020
CLOSE
From Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men to Demi Lovato, performances at the 62nd Grammy Awards tugged at our heartstrings.
USA TODAY
After a hauntingly A-plus-worthy performance of her ballad “When the Party’s Over,” Billie Eilish took home the award for album of the year at the Grammys Sunday and gave a shout-out to Ariana Grande.
The “7 Rings” artist also was nominated for album of the year, and Eilish, who swept all four major categories, all but handed over the award to Grande.
“Please sit down. Can I just say that I think Ariana deserves this? … I think (the album) deserves (it) more than anything in the world,” the “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” artist said in her acceptance speech.
But Grande was having none of that. The “Thank U, Next” artist waved off Eilish and blew her kisses.
Grande was nominated in four other categories: best pop solo performance (“7 rings”), best pop duo/group performance (“Boyfriend”), record of the year (“7 rings”) and best pop vocal album (“Thank U, Next”). Spoiler: she didn’t win any of them, and Eilish bested her in the latter two.
The former Nickelodeon actress did have her moment to shine when she gave it her all in a three-song medley performance. She blew the roof off during “Imagine” in a black ball gown before serving up amazing choreography during hits “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next.”
.@BillieEilish accepts her award for Album of the Year, but says @ArianaGrande deserved to win: “Can I just say that I think Ariana deserves this? ‘thank u, next’… deserves more than anything in the whole world. I love you so much.” ❤️ #GRAMMYspic.twitter.com/oPA4e7OW8Q

Though Eilish recognized Grande’s talents, fans were upset with the Grammys for snubbing the artist who made headlines and USA TODAY’s best-dressed list in her giant Giambattista Valli gown and made sure to air out their feelings on Twitter.
“Ariana Grande had the biggest era of her career yet, outdid herself, literally owned 2019 .. #GRAMMYs just used her name for attention and let the woman sit there nervous the whole night. No words, she deserves better,” wrote @popcreave.
One fan listed Grande’s album as one of the most snubbed in the past 10 years alongside Rihanna’s “Anti” and Beyoncé’s “Lemonade.”

Another fan pointed out that Grande has been through a lot in her career and that it didn’t matter whether she won.
“Grammy or not, ariana won. she really went through the lowest (expletive) point of her life, and came out on top this era. it’s not about that little trophy for me, it’s the message she sends to all of us. no one i love or respect more than Ariana Grande,” wrote @icanbeneeeddy.
In the past year and a half, the pop star has weathered a called-off engagement to “Saturday Night Live” star Pete Davidson and the death of her ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller – all while processing trauma from a terrorist attack in 2017 that killed 22 people after her concert in Manchester, England.
A few began referring to the Grammys as the “scammys” because of Grande’s snubs.
“If they send ariana home with nothing that’s pure disrespect. they should just call it the scammys,” wrote @rihsbey.

Taylor Swift‘s former record label, Big Machine Label Group, and its founder are speaking out after the singer slammed Scooter Braun for purchasing her music catalog for $300 million.
Hours after Swift said she was “grossed out” by Braun’s acquisition of Big Machine Label Group and her catalog, Scott Borchetta, who worked with Swift from 2006 until she left Big Machine for Universal Music Group late last year, responded with his own lengthy statement on the label’s website.
Along with sharing the conversations he previously had with Swift, 29, about the rights to her past music projects, Borchetta also denied her claims about Braun’s “bullying” of which the star wrote on Tumblr: “Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them.”
Borchetta, whose rep declined to comment to PEOPLE, defended new business partner Braun.
“As to her comments about ‘being in tears or close to it’ anytime my new partner Scooter Braun’s name was brought up, I certainly never experienced that,” he said.
RELATED: Taylor Swift’s Rep Says Singer Learned of Scooter Braun’s Purchase from News When She Woke Up
“Was I aware of some prior issues between Taylor and Justin Bieber? Yes. But there were also times where Taylor knew that I was close to Scooter and that Scooter was a very good source of information for upcoming album releases, tours, etc, and I’d reach out to him for information on our behalf,” Borchetta continued.
“Scooter was never anything but positive about Taylor. He called me directly about Manchester to see if Taylor would participate (she declined),” he said, referring to Braun’s client Ariana Grande‘s Manchester One Love concert that raised funds for the victims of the May 2017 terrorist attack outside her concert that killed 22 and injured over 100 people.
“He called me directly to see if Taylor wanted to participate in the Parkland March (she declined),” Borchetta said of the March for Our Lives in March 2018 that was organized and led by the students and survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
“Scooter has always been and will continue to be a supporter and honest custodian for Taylor and her music,” he added.
RELATED: Taylor Swift Slams Scooter Braun for ‘Manipulative Bullying’ After He Acquires Her Music Catalog
Borchetta also responded to Swift’s rep who told PEOPLE in a statement that the Grammy-nominated artist “found out from the news articles when she woke up before seeing any text from Scott Borchetta and he did not call her in advance.”
“I personally texted Taylor at 9:06pm, Saturday, June 29th to inform her prior to the story breaking on the morning of Sunday, June 30th so she could hear it directly from me,” he said. “I guess it’s possible that she might not have seen my text. But, I truly doubt that she ‘woke up to the news when everyone else did.’ ”
A source close to the deal told PEOPLE Swift was given a courtesy note on Saturday by Borchetta. TMZ reported that Taylor’s father, Scott, is on the board of directors of Big Machine Label Group and “has known about the deal for at least a week.”
However, a spokesperson for Swift refuted TMZ’s claim, telling PEOPLE: “Scott Swift is not on the board of directors and has never been. On June 25, there was a shareholder phone call that Scott Swift did not participate in due to a very strict NDA that bound all shareholders and prohibited any discussion at all without risk of severe penalty. Her dad did not join that call because he did not want to be required to withhold any information from his own daughter.”
RELATED: Taylor Swift Accuses Scooter Braun of Using Kanye West & Justin Bieber to ‘Bully’ Her
In her Tumblr post on Sunday, Swift, whose new album Lover hits shelves Aug. 23, wrote about learning that it was Braun who had ultimately purchased her masters from Borchetta, calling it her “worst nightmare.”
“Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it,” she wrote. “This is my worst case scenario.”
Swift added of Borchetta, “This is what happens when you sign a deal at 15 to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value,’ he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it.”
Among many of Swift’s friends to speak out in support of her was Cara Delevingne, who commented on Bieber’s Instagram response in which he accused Swift of “crossing a line” in her Tumblr post.
“This issue that @taylorswift is talking out is about far more than a picture and you know that,” Delevingne wrote to Bieber and his wife Hailey Baldwin, who called him a “gentleman” in the comments section.
“As you said, you haven’t spoken to her in years which means you definitely don’t understand the situation. I do. Take a step back and try and learn from this. We should all be on the same team. End of story,” Delevingne concluded.
A rep for Braun declined to comment to PEOPLE.

July 5,2018: Ariana addresses Pete’s Manchester joke
At a stand-up show last fall—well before the couple linked up—Pete Davidson made a joke about the Manchester Arena bombing that killed 22 patrons at an Ariana Grande concert. Essentially, the joke was that the horrific incident lead Grande to realize how famous she was, because “Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert.” (Poor taste, we know.)
With the joke resurfacing on the web, Ariana finally felt she needed to comment. In a since deleted tweet, she wrote: “this has been v tough & conflicting on my heart. he uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. we all deal w trauma differently. I of course didn’t find it funny. it was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious but it was unfortunate.”
July 23, 2018: Pete deletes all his Instagrams
When Pete Davidson wiped his Instagram account Monday — deleting ALL traces of his beloved fiancé — the Internet started freaking out. Which, after a few short hours in the dark, prompted the comedian to return to the platform to clear up a few things.
“No there’s nothing wrong. No nothing happened. No there’s nothing cryptic about anything,” he explained on Instagram Stories. “I just don’t wanna be on Instagram anymore. Or on any social media platform. The internet is an evil place and it doesn’t make me feel good. Why should I spend any time on negative energy when my real life is fucking lit. The fact that I even have to say this proves my point. I love you all and I’m sure I’ll be back at some point.”
Davidson’s departure from social media seems to have rubbed off on Grande, who responded to a fan saying that she’s also taking a step back from Twitter and Instagram. “Just sometimes can’t help but bump into some negative shit that really can bum u out,” she wrote on Monday, “and it’s not worth it honestly.”
yeh ! i’m prolly gonna post on der for a little while & take a breather from twitter & ig for a little. just sometimes can’t help but bump into some negative shit that really can bum u out and it’s not worth it honestly. promised i’d always tell you. i love u sm ! be well & happy

I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favourite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick.'” The ring he settled on? A 3-carat pear diamond ring — worth $93,000.
October 14, 2018: Pete and Ariana call off the engagement
Well, it seems another one of our young Hollywood relationship timelines has come to its end. A source has confirmed to TMZ that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have split after five months of dating, calling of their short engagement. “We’re told the two still have love for each other,” TMZ shared, “but things are over romantically.”

November 1, 2018: Ariana tweets (& deletes) shade at Pete

1.) One Love Manchester
After the Manchester terrorist attack on May 22, 2017, Ariana Grande raised more than $13 million for all its victims. The “One Love Manchester” tribute concert, which was a hit immediately, was organized after 13 days since the attack.
It was hard for Grande at first but she believed she needed to come back and not let hate win over the love for music. Every ticket that was bought was for the people who were affected and harmed during the attack.
This shows how caring and kind Ariana Grande is to her fans. Instead of just releasing a public statement, Grande took the initiative to promote and send out a positive message to the world and to the victims. You are not alone. We will not let them win.
What she did was a reflection of who she is, not just as an artist, but as a friend to her fans. What she did gained her the respect of people and new fans.
2.) Turning Experiences Into Music
Singers have many ways on expressing their feelings and emotions. They can either sing their hearts out or write a song about what they’ve been through. Like Ariana Grande, her new album “Sweetner” has a lot of songs that are meaningful to her but one song stood out very quick to the public and to her fans. The song was entitled “Breathin” and many people were curious how it was made.
Since the Manchester attack, Grande has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Syndrome (PTSD). In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the 25-year old singer said, “When I was at the studio making this song, I was having a hard time breathing and basically that’s just how the song progressed, how you should just push through everything and keep on breathing.”
Grande’s song is meant to share her experience with mental health issues and is a song to show everyone that they’re not the only people experiencing these things. Her ability to connect to many people through her music is why she has so many fans. Every song she makes is relatable and well made to suit everyone that listens.
3.) Spirited Away Tattoo
It is known that many singers in Hollywood have tattoos. But one tattoo specifically caused a ruckus in the online world. It is when Ariana Grande got a big ink on her lower right arm. Since Grande was known for her small and minimalistic tattoos everyone were shocked on why she would suddenly decide to do it. Her fans had mixed feelings about it. Some liked it and some didn’t but later on she explained the meaning of her tattoo in an Instagram story.
To sum up everything she said, her tattoo was inspired by a character from “Spirited Away“ named Chichiro. It’s a story about a young child who easily gets scared but in the end, pushes her fears aside and grows into a mature woman who will do everything to protect her family and the people she loves.
This tattoo really mirrors Ariana as a person.
Like Chichiro, the 25-year old singer is very family oriented and will do anything to protect her family and loved ones.
It's amazing how Ariana Grande deals with her problems and never loses grace in what she does. She is unapologetic in who she is and what she wants to show the whole world.
You know her values as a person because they shine in whatever she does. Not all celebrities can be true to themselves and embrace the good and bad within themselves. That's why many people have been supporting Ariana, not only because of her looks and her singing but because of who she truly is as a person in front of people.

Ariana Grande Posts Sweet Photo Of Mac Miller After His Death

Ariana Grande Posts Sweet Photo Of Mac Miller After His Death
Ariana Grande posted a tribute to her former boyfriend and rapper Mac Miller over Instagram on Saturday, one day after his tragic death.
The 26-year-old artist, who had recently released his album “Swimming,” died of an apparent overdose on Friday at his San Fernando Valley home in California. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene after friends called 911.
Grande’s photo, a black-and-white image of Miller sitting outside, was not accompanied by text. She disabled comments on the post too.
The “Sweetener” singer announced in May that she and Miller had split after two years of dating, describing him at the time as “one of my best friends in the whole world.”
They connected on social media back in 2012, which led to the first of their handful of musical collaborations, a cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” released months later. Miller was then featured on Grande’s 2013 breakout hit, “The Way,” with the two even sharing a lip-lock in the music video.

The duo wouldn’t make more than music together, however, until 2016 when they stepped out as a couple at the MTV Video Music Awards. Grande confirmed they were indeed dating on an “Ellen” appearance shortly after the ceremony.
And then they were by each other’s side after the terrorist attack that followed her concert in Manchester, England, and killed 22 people in May 2017.
Miller and Grande returned to the city a month later, taking the stage together at a benefit concert ― alongside artists Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Coldplay ― that raised $12 million for families of the victims.

About a year later, Grande confirmed they’d split via a heartfelt post on Instagram Stories, noting that she was “grateful to have him in my life in any form.”
Shortly after, Miller was arrested on DUI and hit-and-run charges when police said he struck a power pole and fled the scene. The rapper was picked up by authorities at his home hours later with a blood-alcohol level reportedly nearly twice the legal limit.

Mac Miller and Ariana Grande attend an Oscar party in March 2018.
When a fan seemingly placed blame on Grande for Miller’s legal troubles weeks later, the pop star didn’t hold back about their “toxic relationship” and why neither she nor any other woman is responsible for a partner’s actions.
“I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be,” she wrote weeks after their split. “I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming/blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem. let’s please stop doing that.”
Grande has since become engaged to “Saturday Night Live” star Pete Davidson.

Top 20 Whitney Houston Hits
Another New Jersey native, Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born in Newark in 1963. It’s no wonder she chose music as a career, since her mother is singer Cissy Houston, her cousins are Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick and her godmother is Aretha Franklin.Whitney first started singing in church where she also learned to play the piano. She also traveled with her mother on her tours when Whitney was in her early teens. On occasion, she would join her mother on stage. In addition to singing backup on Chaka Khan’s hit single, “I’m Every Woman” when she was just fifteen, and which Whitney would also make a hit, she also appeared doing background work on albums by Jermaine Jackson and Lou Rawls.
Before Whitney’s singing career took off, she was a familiar face as a model on the cover of many magazines, including Seventeen, Glamour and Cosmopolitan. In 1983, Whitney was signed to Clive Davis’ Arista Records where she recorded a duet with Teddy Pendergrass, which went Top 5 on Billboard’s R&B Charts. Her first solo album, “Whitney Houston”, had problems getting off the ground with two unsuccessful singles. However, her third single, “You Give Good Love” went to #3 on Billboard’s Top 40 Weekly Charts. On the charts, Whitney made it to the Top 40 thirty times, with eleven of those singles going to number one. Here’s a look at Whitney Houston’s twenty biggest hits, according to Billboard’s Weekly Top 40 charts.
1. I Will Always Love You – 1992 – written by Dolly Parton in 1973 and recorded by Dolly in 1974, Whitney’s biggest single came from her “The Bodyguard” soundtrack and the single spent an astounding fourteen weeks at number one.
2. Greatest Love Of All – 1986 – written for George Benson in 1977 for the Muhammad Ali film “The Greatest” and going top 40 with it, Whitney’s version went to #1.
3. How Will I Know – 1985 – when Janet Jackson passed on this song, Whitney recorded it for her first album.
4. All The Man I Need – 1990 – originally recorded by Linda Clifford in 1982, another version was released by Sister Sledge before Whitney went to number one.
5. I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) – 1987 – Whitney won an American Music Award and a Grammy Award for this single.
6. Didn’t We Almost Have It All – 1987 – this was Whitney’s fifth consecutive number one single and it was nominated as the Grammy Song of the Year.
7. Where Do Broken Hearts Go? – 1988 – her fourth number one single from her “Whitney” album, a feat accomplished by only three other female singers.
8. Exhale (Shoop Shoop) – 1995 – Whitney’s eleventh #1 single debuted at #1 in its first week, which is only the third single to ever do this. Actor Forest Whitaker directed the music video.
9. Saving All My Love For You – 1985 – originally released by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. in 1978, this was Whitney’s first #1 single.
10. So Emotional – 1988 – this was Whitney’s sixth consecutive #1 single, which put her in a three way tie with The Beatles and The Bee Gees for this feat.
11. I’m Your Baby Tonight – 1990 – title cut from the album of the same name.
12. Heartbreak Hotel – 1999 – not to be confused with the Elvis Presley hit of the same name, Whitney’s song included help from R&B singers Faith Evans and Kelly Price.
13. You Give Good Love – 1985 – Whitney’s first Top 10 single was originally offered to Roberta Flack.
14. I’m Every Woman – 1993 – originally a hit for Chaka Khan in 1978, going to #21 on the weekly charts and with Whitney doing backing vocals, Whitney recorded the same song going to #4.
15. I Have Nothing – 1993 – the third Top 10 single from her “The Bodyguard Soundtrack” album.
16. I Believe In You And Me – 1996 – originally recorded by The Four Tops in 1983, Whitney released the song on her “The Preacher’s Wife” soundtrack.
17. It’s Not Right But It’s Okay – 1999 – Whitney received the 2000 Grammy Award for Best R&B Female Vocalist Performance for this song.
18. My Love Is Your Love – 1999 – the third Top 10 single from the album of the same name.
19. One Moment In Time – 1988 – a song used by NBC-TV for the 1988 Olympics.

Pete Davidson Reacts To Ariana Grande’s “God Is A Woman” With The Most Enthusiastic Instagram Post
In a super sweet move, Pete Davidson reacted to Ariana Grande’s “God Is a Woman” by being supportive as hell towards his fiancée. Grande and Davidson have been going strong for weeks now, so Davidson’s endorsement of Grande’s song is right on time. Plus, he’s been tweeting about it leading up to the drop, too.
Earlier today, Davidson posted about the new single on his Instagram story, posting a picture of Grande and captioning it, “GIAW at midnight..this is one of my favorite songs on the album it’s bonkers!!!”
After Grande dropped the song, Davidson took the time to post a super supportive Instagram photo, too. It’s short, sweet, and to the point (plus, it has him in a “God Is a Woman” sweatshirt, so that’s something): “GIAW out now !!!!”
Grande and Davidson are no strangers to loving on one another publicly. Their whirlwind engagement had some people wondering if it was even real. Of course, one of the songs on Grande’s new albumSweetener(due in August) is literally called “Pete,” so it’s pretty clear that they’re serious about one another.
Davidson and Grande have been such a focal point of conversation that their engagement was even brought up in an interview with Selena Gomez, who described it as “amazing and beautiful.”
Recently, Grande took to Twitter to defend her decision to put a song named “Pete” on her new album after a fan questioned whether it was dumb.
She first simply tweeted, “Nah,” but then elaborated further in a follow-up tweet. “the truth is i been the f*ck thru it and life’s too short to be cryptic n sh*t about something as beautiful as this love I’m in. so ǝʇǝԀ it is,” Grande tweeted.
Grande had to defend her love again on Twitter a few weeks later — but this time, it was to acknowledge Davidson’s actions, rather than his inspiration. Apparently Davidson made a joke about the Manchester bombing during a standup routine at a benefit for Puerto Rico last fall. Davidson said, “Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert,” referencing the suicide bomber who killed 22 people at a concert Grande was performing at in Manchester.
When a fan asked Grande why she was still with Davidson after hearing that he said that, she tweeted the following statement:
this has been v tough & conflicting on my heart. he uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. we all deal w trauma differently. I of course didn’t find it funny. it was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious but it was unfortunate
Grande has been outspoken in the past about how much the Manchester event has affected her moving forward in her life. In a cover story with the August issue ofElle Magazine, Grande revealed that she’s been in therapy for the physical anxiety attacks she experienced after the concert, and that getting back onstage after the attack was “terrifying”.
Grande said, “You see it on the news, you tweet the hashtag. It’s happened before, and it’ll happen again. It makes you sad, you think about it for a little, and then people move on. But experiencing something like that firsthand, you think of everything differently.…. Everything is different.”
Still, Grande’s defense of Davidson is especially filled with nuance if you know that Davidson’s father was killed in the September 11 attacks while performing his duties as a firefighter, which is probably what she’s talking about when she says that people deal with trauma differently.
Grande’s song was immediately well received when it was released at midnight on Friday, with fans flooding to Twitter to post meme after meme of people screaming, running around, and basically just saying in myriad forms, “I’m so dead this song is so good.”

Charlottesville’s white awakening: ‘We were living in a bubble, ‘ say residents
On Sunday, Ariana Grande helped the Virginia town recover from last months violence which some white residents admitted had been a serious wake-up call
Inside the University of Virginia’s Scott Stadium, a succession of pop superstars were telling local residents that” Love trumps hate” and” You will not dethrone love .” Dave Matthews, Pharrell Williams, Ariana Grande and Justin Timberlake were holding a free concert to assist Charlottesville recover from the violent white supremacist and neo-Nazi protests that rocked the town last month.
But as he smoked a cigarette by the stadium concession stands Sunday evening, Jack( who did not want his last name employed) wasn’t talking about love. He was talking about his referendum. The 25 -year-old, who has lived in Charlottesville most of his life, is a conservative in a liberal town. He said he had voted for Donald Trump, hoping that a political outsider would bring change.
Then white supremacists had marched across his hometown carrying torches and chanting” You will not replace us” and” Jews will not replace us .” They carried guns and wore helmets and shields and fight with anti-fascists in the streets, generating news footage viewed around the world.
As a white man, the kind of American these far-right groups claimed to represent,” I felt ashamed ,” he said. His friends who are not white had been terrified, wondering if they would be safe going outside or walking around. In response, Trump, the president he had supported, repeatedly blamed” both sides” and” many sides” and said there were” very fine people” who marched alongside the neo-Nazis.
Jack said he didn’t know if any mainstream conservatives had marched alongside neo-Nazis on 12 August.” If I insured a Nazi flag come up, I would be out of there ,” he said.
Charlottesville was definitely not the first time Trump had said something that built Jack uncomfortable, and it was was not the first time friends had shared their dreads with him about how their race might construct them vulnerable. When it came to police barbarism, Jack said, he listened, but he also had his own relationship with the police as authority figures, and wanted to believe that most police officer would not simply racially profile people.” This was different ,” he said. The white supremacists’ stance towards other races was absolutely clear.
Whether Trump was a white supremacist himself, he said, he did not know. But along with Trump’s” Rocket Man” jabs at North Korea, the president’s reaction to Charlottesville had convinced him that he would not be voting for Trump again, and that he was required to vet his candidates more carefully in the future.
On Sunday, as tens of thousands of locals filled stadium seats and clustered on the field in front of the stage, the mood was relaxed and upbeat. But, like Jack, some white Charlottesville residents said that that watching fascists march through their streets had been a wake-up call.
” It opened our eyes ,” said Pat Sury, who lives outside Charlottesville.” That it’s here as well as everywhere else. We were living in a bubble .”

” I think it get everybody talking a lot more about what’s going on in our community ,” said Rosanna Lavin, 62, sitting with Sury and other friends at a small tailgating party in the parking lot.” We cannot be blind to some of the issues that we really don’t deal with ,” including” alt-right hatred” and” race relations “.
At work, Lavin said, she has tried to talk about race more with her colleagues of coloring.” I think we’re too afraid to approach topics sometimes and get honest reactions ,” she said. But the “bits and pieces” of conversation had not yet created steps forward other than overall supporting.
Conversations about racism” are not the funnest dialogues to have or the easiest ,” but they were happening with more urgency now, said Devin Welch, 33, who works for a solar energy company in Charlottesville, at a different tailgate party. Before the white supremacist protests, local entrepreneurs had already been discussing how to support and money a more diverse situate of start-up founders, ensuring that venture capital funding did not just stay within white social networks. After the protests, it’s not just a priority- “now it’s top,” he said.
Welch said he believed that what Charlottesville had witnessed was the” death gasps of a dying ideology ,” not the growth of something new.
Malcolm Wills, 20, and Fernando Garay, 19, said that protests in Charlottesville had appeared to stimulate people more comfy openly saying racist things, particularly on Facebook. Both young men said they had been shocked to watch acquaintances defend white supremacists online, and that people they knew talked earnestly about their concerns about white people becoming a minority.

The tension and anxiety of the first days after the white supremacists’ protests had faded, Wills said. The two young men said they hoped that if the neo-Nazis came back, the town would choose to let them protest without much reaction, rather than feeding their agenda with attention.
A black fourth-year student at the University of Virginia, who said she did not want to give her name, said she was trying to enjoy her last year of university, and not let what happened define her experience. That wasn’t easy. As a peer counselor to younger students of coloring, she said she has fielded many questions from first-years about whether they should transfer to another school.
She said she advised them to remain.” Sadly, wherever you are in America, you can probably experience these things ,” she said.
Inside the stadium, Susan Bro, the mother of Heather Heyer, the young woman killed when an alleged white supremacist drove a car into a mob of counter-protesters, had received a standing ovation from the audience at the beginning of the concert, and urged listeners to continue her daughter’s legacy by showing up to confront hatred and discrimination.
” Tragically, because Heather stood bravely against combating racism and hatred, she was taken from us ,” Bro told the crowd, asking them to” turn our righteous fury into action .”

Her daughter” loved humanity with an open heart. That’s what dedicated her the strength and compassion to stand up with her friends against dislike. As Heather said, if you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention .”
Ariana Grande, whose young fans were targeted by a suicide bomber in Manchester in May, leaving 22 people killed and dozens more wounded, struck a similar note between her situates at the concert.
The pop singer, who just finished a world tour, came to Charlottesville to participate in her second benefit concert following an act of terror in the space of simply four months. She had hosted her own benefit, One Love Manchester, in June.
America’s president usually serves as the country’s consoler-in-chief. But Trump, who had branded terrorists” evil losers” after the Manchester attack, had not come to Charlottesville to offer support. So it was the 24 -year-old pop singer who took on that rhetorical role, mixing succour with a reminder of their shared values.
” I want to tell you how proud I am to be part of a generation that is so passionate about making a change ,” she told the crowd.” Keep employing your voices and making this a safer place for each other .”
