Rewatched the great gatsby for the first time in over a decade and god you couldn't convince 14 y/o me nick wasn't in love with gatsby and you sure can't convince 25 y/o me he wasn't. He just didn't understand it in the moment. "They’re a rotten crowd… you’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.” I just. Come on. And tobey maguire didn't even try to convince us otherwise

#that was My Favorite English Class Book. it & the movie exploded my little 9th grade brain and i hadn't watched it since #and i did this a couple weeks ago. and I can't stop thinking abt it #rewatching it while much closer to the ages of the characters really kinda... pulls back the veil of grandeur around everyone #gatsby's just a stubborn & kinda immature man who's unable to see that the woman he loved had an established life she couldn't just leave #like near the end gatsby just seems... childlike in his stubbornness and optimism. and oh daisy....... sweet gentle daisy ........#she didn't deserve any of that 😭 she was just emotionally tormented for so much of it #she's caught between a huge man with a hair-trigger temper who's supposed to love her but loves someone else #and a man too stubborn to see she has a life she can't just leave (and can't fathom that she's ever loved anyone else)#and gatsby KNOWS she still loves him. he uses it against her in a way that's far more cruel than he thinks it is #& nick is 100% in love with gatsby the whole time and just. has no idea. like i think if you explained Gay People to him it'd blow his mind #the great gatsby
