wasn't "nub" originally head? I seem to recall its meaning drifting later in the comic due to fandom influence, though

Then there is:

So, we have one instance where it definitely means head, one other instance where it plausibly could mean head, and a lot of other cases where it’s almost certainly not head.  This was the weirdest and least-consistent piece of troll slang, I think.

I always got the impression that “thinkpan” was skull, although my brain tends to automatically do shit like that on account of the specific (apparently weird?) way I work from context, and also I need words to mean things

It seems likely it could be both, and maybe somewhat more, as well.  It’s a pretty versatile term.
