im at work but lemme just say that its so irritating to see donna be constantly watered down into this woman who did nothing wrong and just needs some help because..... shes very mentally ill? she has a sad backstory? feeling bad for her is fine i do too but seeing the things she does in the game that make her an incredibly effective villain and saying its not her fault is ugly. you can link her actions to her devotion to Miranda and blame her all you want but everybody actions are linked to miranda because everybody but Heisenberg is devout to her đ everybody sucks in this game that's what makes it fun
#shes baby#how do you see the scariest part of the game and look at the woman who caused it and go#may i also say that while yes i do portray her as somewhat immature and even childish at times.... the only sources in game#that say she acts like a child are 1) her adoptive mother who's a priestess from like the 1800#s and the lords clearly dislike each other too#the mental health stigma in that village must be atrocious#my point is shes not a baby she can take responsibility for her actions even if she had a terrible life#this isn't about anybody here obvi it's about the Fandom and the content they make of her LOL#ooc.#tbd

        Chapter 1: However scaryÂ
You start to follow Hotch outside his office, barely containing the smile on your face. You couldnât help it, the job youâve been dreaming about for a decade was yours now. As you left the office, you couldnât help but notice the short Italian man exiting his.Â
âRossi?â You smiled. The man in question turned and grinned upon seeing you.Â
âBella!â He opened his arms to hug you which you automatically accepted.Â
âI thought you retired, old man.âÂ
Rossi scoffed. âYou know me, canât stay away for long.â Hotch stepped up, joining you guys. âSo am I correct in assuming youâve taken the job?â Rossi asks.Â
âYou would be correct.â You smile. âAnd now, since I have a big girl job and can take care of myself. Iâm hoping those mysterious money drops into my bank account will stop.â You gave him a knowing look. Though you and Rossi were not as close as you and Hotch, you still revered him as a father figure as much as he did you a daughter.
âI have no idea what youâre talking about.â He says holding up his hands.Â
âSure you donât, old man.â You laughed. âHowâs⌠Krystal?â You say trying to remember which wife Rossi was on now.Â
âDivorced.â Rossi smirks.Â
âAw, Iâm sorry, Dave. I thought 3 would be the lucky number.âÂ
âSo did I.â Rossi smiled. âHowâs Persephone?â David smiles widely at the mention of your adoptive mother's name.Â
âStill not interested in becoming number 4.â You laughed, inducing a boisterous laugh from Dave and a small chuckle from Hotch. âSheâs currently backpacking through India and building eco houses along the way.âÂ
âSounds like Persephone.â David smiles. You guys continue to catch up for a couple of more minutes not noticing the team staring up at you from the bullpen.
âDo you guys know who she is?â Emily asksÂ
âNo but Rossi and Hotch know her by the looks of it.â Derek replies.Â
âI met her in the elevator.â Spencer speaks up. âHer nameâs Y/N.âÂ
âWonder what she's doing here.â Derek says as Penelope walks up with a tin of her famous cookies that Spencer is already reaching for. She pulls back so itâs out of reach from his perch on his desk.Â
âWell, if she took the job then that is your newest team member.â Penelope smiled. âHotch asked me to do a background check last week so I assume heâs hiring her. Which means these cookies are for her.â She says pulling even more back as Spencer continues to make grabby hands at the tin.Â
âWhy does she get cookies her first day? I didnât get any on my first day.â Spencer points out, not caring how much he sounds like a child.Â
âIâm not really allowed to talk about it, but letâs just say I think she could really use the kindness.âÂ
âWhat did you find out about her, Baby girl?â Derek asked.Â
Penelope frowns slightly, she never liked keeping secrets, especially from the team. âIâm really not allowed to say, but what I can tell you is that sheâs smart, like really smart. Maybe not Reidâs level but smart enough to make dean's list at an Ivy League every year.âÂ
âWhich school?â Spencer asks.Â
âStanford.âÂ
Spencer nods. That would make her pretty smart, that or just good at school. As heâs exiting his thoughts, JJ walks past them, throwing a âWe have a case.â Over her shoulder before heading to Rossi, Hotch and the new girl.Â
We all begin filing into the conference room, Rossi, Hotch and Y/N walking in last. Hotch clears his throat. âThis is Agent Y/L/N.â He says gesturing at you. âShe will be joining us this case. Iâm sure you guys will get around to formal introductions later.â Hotch says before taking a seat nodding at JJ to start. You hold up your hand in a small wave before taking a seat next to Hotch. Everyone else regards you with a small nod except a brightly dressed blonde woman who excitedly waves back at you.Â
âWeâre heading to Nashville.â A blonde woman, you assume, is JJ says pulling up images of victims on the screen. You swallowed the lump in your throat, you were used to crime scene photos, you studied several in the FBI academy but kids would always get to you. â3 boys ages 10-13 all have gone missing on their way home from school, all found 5 days later buried arms across chest, heads shaved.âÂ
âSigns of remorse are obviously there but the hair...is something different.â A dark haired woman pointed out.Â
âCould be trichophilia.â You pointed out. Everyone looked at you, you cleared your throat under the scrutiny. âTrichophilia. Itâs the fetishzation of hair.â You provide. Everyone nods and JJ continues to provide information on the case before Hotch announces wheels up in 30. You go to grab your files and notebook when the brightly dressed blonde woman ambushes you a tin fully extended to you.Â
âHi, Iâm Penelope Garcia, and these are for you!â practically shoving the tin into your hands.Â
âThank you, Iâm Y/N.â You smiled, you werenât really a sweets person but you werenât going to turn down the kindness. A brown skinned man and the dark haired woman from before walked up to you both.Â
âIâm Emily Prentiss, this is Derek Morganâ she says both holding their hands out for you to shake. You shuffle the cookies and files into one arm to shake hands with them.
âY/N Y/L/N.â You say back.Â
âSo you seemed to already know Hotch?â Derek pointed out.Â
You had been prepared for someone to ask about that so you rattled off your prepared speech. âYes, Hotch is a family friend.â That seemed like the easiest way to explain your relationship.Â
âSo thatâs how you were able to steamroll in here, huh? Friends with the boss?â The man laughs.Â
âNo, I think it mightâve been one of my several degrees, merits or letters of recommendation, one of which from the director himself.â You point out. âThough I suppose knowing Aaron didnât necessarily hurt things.âÂ
Derek holds up his hands in surrender. âThat could be true too. I guess weâll see out on the field.â He says before him and Prentiss walk out.Â
You sigh heavily and start heading out the same way before a small voice pipes up behind you.Â
âTheyâll come around.âÂ
You turn your eyes onto the man you had met in the elevator before. âSorry?âÂ
âMorgan and Prentiss. Theyâll come around, they acted like that towards me when I first started too. Itâs-uh because youâre young.âÂ
You nodded. He had a point and so did Morgan in a sense. You were very young, seemingly too young to be starting in a field like this. You knew itâd be hard to believe Hotch didnât pull some strings for you.Â
âI knew my age would probably raise some questions. But I worked really hard, and it sucks I have to prove myself 10x over just because of my age.âÂ
âI understand.â He says, following you out of the conference room.Â
âI felt like you would. You introduced yourself as Dr. Reid before but we look around the same age.âÂ
âYes, I hold 3 doctorates.âÂ
âThree?!â You said incredulously. âWhat were you like, eleven starting college?âÂ
â12, actually.â He smiles. He has a nice smile, instantly crosses your brain. You dash that thought immediately.Â
âThat would have to make you some sort of genius.âÂ
âI believe thereâs not quantifiable way to measure intelligence but I suppose by societal standards, I am. I have an IQ of 187.âÂ
You let out a deep whistle. âAnd here I thought Iâd be the smart one.â You laugh.Â
He fumbles a bit over his words. âI-I mean you still could be. L-Like I said, thereâs no way to accurately measure intelligence.âÂ
You laugh before rounding your new desk grabbing your go bag underneath it. âThanks for the vote of confidence but we both know thatâs not true.â You smile before turning to head towards the jet.Â
ââââââââââââââââââ
You and the team had been in Madison county for 4 days now and you were hitting a wall. The day you arrived there had been a 4th body found, same cause of death, same shaved head only this time the word HELP was carved into the boyâs back. You knew this was a part of the job, going to crime scenes and having to see bodies but you couldnât stop the thoughts. His hands were on your neck again, his knife grazing your sides. You felt the bile rise up.Â
âPull over.â You all but scream to Morgan he nods, zipping the car to the side of the road. You instantly hop out and release your lunch.Â
Morgan steps out and pats your back. âItâs alright, kid. First oneâs never easy. Especially when itâs children.âÂ
He thinks youâre sick from the crime scene You think. Thatâs probably for the best.
âThanks.â You mumble. He nods as you guys wordlessly walk back to the SUV.Â
Since then youâve been at the police station working on the geographical profile with Spencer. You know Morgan had probably said something to Hotch about your upchuck and that was why you were stuck here. But still, you couldnât think to complain. Spencer was incredibly smart and great to work with.Â
âThereâs something weâre missing.â He says off handedly. You nod agreeing. You take in the circle like pattern the unsub seemed to be going in. It didnât make sense. You had profiled him as a socially awkward loner with an overbearing parent. He wasnât good with adults but could somehow get kids to trust him. Enough to get into the car with him late at night. It hit you a second later.Â
âOh my god.â You said scrambling for your phone to call Garcia. Spencer looks over at you, raising an eyebrow questioningly.Â
âYouâve reached your high priestess.â You hear Penelopeâs voice come through the speaker.Â
âHey Garcia, itâs Y/N.â You say. âCan you tell me what business is near the first dump site? I have an idea.âÂ
You hear the faint sound of clacking as she finds the information for you. âLooks to be a bus lot.â You fought the urge to pump your fist in the air. You were right.Â
âAlright Garcia. I need a background check on all school bus drivers in Madison county, cross check it with anything that would fit the profile so minor stalking charges, assaultâŚâ you train off. âHow long do you think thatâll take?â You ask.Â
âIf I get started now, a couple hours.â She says. âPenelope out.â She says, hanging up.Â
You look up to see Spencer looking right back at you. âA bus driver.â You say smiling. âThink about it, everyday you ride the bus home from school and play outside with your friends until late. And when you're heading home your bus driver approaches you in his car offering to take you back. You have no reason not to trust him because heâs brought you home safely so many times before.â You explain, a brief frown grazing your lips. These children met an untimely demise all for trusting someone they were supposed to trust.Â
Spencer nods, taking in your words. âGood work,â he says. âYou figured it out.âÂ
You flushed under the high praise. âIâm sure you wouldâve come to the same conclusion given more time.â You say.Â
âBut I didnât.â He says. âYou did, and you probably saved another kid's life in the meantime.â He smiled and patted your shoulder before turning back to the board.Â
You looked at his back for a while. You knew since you stepped on the elevator that first time you were attracted to Spencer Reid. He was tall with a lean build and a nice set jaw and incredibly smart. Youâd be lying to yourself if that wasnât your exact type. But on top of all that, he was nice. Almost sickeningly so.Â
Suddenly you felt a lot more at risk than before.Â
 ââââââââââââââââ
William Davison was arrested September 7th. You were right, he was a bus driver for Madison county. Police caught him in his car full of things that pointed him directly to the abductions.Â
You and the team were now back on the jet heading home. While the rest team was playing cards you opted to sit in the back. Textbooks laid out on the table as you tried to take notes from them. You were so engrossed. You didnât see Spencer come take the seat in front of you.Â
âWhatâre you studying?â He asked.Â
You look up. âUh, Iâm in my doctoral program for psychology right now.â You say. âRight now, Iâm working on an essay about nature vs. nurture effects on the killer's mind.âÂ
âAnd what is your theory?â He asks.
âThat while I do believe nurture plays a role somewhat, if someone has a predisposition to kill, hurt or maim that is something they are born with. Primates and to some effects humans are naturally empathetic creatures so I think people with the desire for violence are defects. Now even though thatâs the case itâs still your own conscious decision to kill.â You say pausing. âSome people are born with natural predispositions they donât follow all the time. Like your hands for instance.â Â
âWhat about my hands?â He inquired.Â
You swallow, clearing your throat. âWell you have fairly large hands, with l-long fingers.â You stutter. Nice going, Y/N. You think. Way to tell the guy youâre starting to develop a crush on that youâve been staring at his hands. âIn the primitive stage, that wouldâve made you good at hunting and gathering. In a more modern sense, youâd be good at piano. Though I imagine, you donât do either.â You say, already knowing the answer. You were a profiler now after all.Â
âNo, I do not.â He smiled widely at you, he always appreciated intelligent conversation when it came by. âI disagree with your theory though.âÂ
âReally? Whyâs that?â You question. He begins to go on a long winded explanation why he thinks Nature vs. Nurture is outdated, taking several detours to talk about some other theories heâs found interesting. You watch him intensely taking in the words. You try to pay attention, you really do. But your eyes keep going back to the mouth the rapid words are coming out of and the hands that are also gesturing widely. You just had tuned back in when he suddenly stopped. You tilted your head at him.Â
âWhatâs wrong?â you asked.Â
âNothing.â he says, looking mildly uncomfortable. âItâs just⌠no one lets me talk for this long.âÂ
âReally?â You question, he nods. âWell, I was listening, I find it interesting. ActuallyâŚâ you trail off picking up your pen, flipping to a new page in your notebook. âDo you mind if I write some of this down, might come in handy when I write my paper later.âÂ
He nods enthusiastically as he continues his thoughts from before. You start writing fast now to keep up, interjecting here and there to ask him to expand on some stuff. Eventually the rest of the team drifts off until it's only the sound of his soft voice and the scratch of your pen filling the plane.    Â

Well, here it is - a lengthy explanation of each card in my mdzs major arcana deck and what I meant to convey/what i would have changed in retrospect/what alternatives i considered! Itâs a bit messy and my typing style is lazy but hopefully it will be an interesting read to some of you :)
And so you donât say I didnât warn you - jiang chengâs section (11 justice) is absurdly long lmao
0 the fool I elaborated on this in the post itself but yeah basically jin ling is kind of representative of all the damage and trauma caused by the past, and thereâs a kind of danger there of him falling victim to the same vices as the older characters and repeating the same mistakes and perpetuating the cycle of war and misery (the cycle that we already see with how the jin sect became the new wen sect, and later with how jgy became the new wwx) and he has a lot of room to grow! He grows so much over the course of the novel, comes to realise the complexities of the past and gets a harsh life lesson in how nothing is as black and white as it seems. But ill save talking about his progress for the end, for now whats important is that he has room to grow and also a dog. I donât really have a justification for the sun, i mostly just thought it looked sick? It made its way to the next card as well, where it makes a bit more sense, but then i realised it was a dumb motif to include 1 the magician I still very much like wwx for the role, and that illustration would have probably had him raising a corpse on his left and pointing threateningly to the sun on his right. I considered including the table as well, with some mdzs relevant items replacing the card suits. Anyway, like i said wwx got a few cards to himself already so i went with the alternative wq design, since i think she fits the card as well. Both she and wwx are highly skilled people, extremely driven once they set their mind to something. The card to me symbolises the creative mind as well as a general drive for action, which fits them both - wwx was famously a prolific inventor, and wq came up with a previously unheard of surgery, after all. This card strays pretty far from the rider-waite deck design, largely because i was still figuring out how i wanted to approach this series, but you can still see the influence. 2 the high priestess I was actually going to skip this card at first because I couldnât think of a fitting character, but once i considered a qings character post death, it all fit pretty well. She was already a highly intuitive person in life, and in sharing her memories with wwx she is, in a way, relaying a kind of secret knowledge. Anyway sheâs one of my fav characters so im glad i got a chance to include her. The coffins could be interpreted to be xxc and sl or xxc and xy 3 the empress Theres other mother figures in mdzs who got to be mothers for a longer time, but jyl definitely embodies the positive aspects of this card the best. Sheâs nurturing, kind, emotionally supportive, she already mothered wwx and jc quite a bit when she was young. Plus i liked that the rw card had both water and flowers, making an easy lotus connection. In retrospect the stars look kind of out of place and i should have replaced them with something more relevant... Also, i should have had her hold a lotus seed pod instead of a flower, haha 4 the emperor Like i said I considered jc for the role but hoching bullied me into admitting that nmj was better⌠theyâre both more of an inverted emperor than an upright one but then again theres hardly any character in mdzs who would fit upright emperor so. Jgs was also considered but heâs even uglier than nmj so i couldnât bear to draw him 5 the hierophant It was pointed out to me that lqr would have fit this card better and the truth if that statement haunts me to this day. Unfortunately I have no space in my brain for lqr so lxc got the role instead. My main reason was his role during the wen destruction of gusu lan, when he ran away with the contents of the library - this is why thereâs bookshelves behind him. The keys, take, from the rider-waite deck, are meant to represent the gusu pendants that allow you to enter 6 the lovers Im sure many people would have chosen wangxian here but I uhh donât really care abt wangxian personally? And also their love story is so convoluted that jyl and jzx seem idyllic by comparison lol. Also i didnt really have an idea for who to put in the angelâs place for wangxian⌠mme jin certainly did not get these two together in the end but undeniably she and mme yu did initially give them a chance to fall for each other so. Thats something i guess. Anyway the trees became their sectsâ flowers and the mountain became the burial grounds - an omen of their tragic fate, basically 7 the chariot There might have been other characters who fit this card better but i couldnât really think of another card for lwj and i thought it would be weird to not include him⌠anyway i donât really care for current timeline lwj BUT i do like that he was clearly influenced by wwx to walk his own path in life based on his moral convictions rather than follow his sectâs rules blindly. The chariot is to me a card of self control, self determination and focused action, so it seemed fitting. The composition felt kind of empty without the actual chariot so i padded it out with the guqin, the cloud recess in the bg (it doesnât look great but i tried to replicate the drama designâŚ.) and the bunnies which conveniently fit the colour scheme of the sphinxes in the rider-waite design 8 strength Like i said before, my interpretation of this card is more⌠morally ambiguous than the quote unquote official meaning, so i thought about manipulative or duplicitous characters more than kind characters whose strength is expressed through gentleness (though i did consider jyl briefly for the latter interpretation). As such, i considered both jgy and nhs, but ended up going with jgy largely because i couldnât pass up the opportunity to put the nie sectâs beast as the lion. 9 the hermit My thoughts immediately went to bssr lol. It may be an overly literal interpretation but whatever, i like it just fine. And i like that i managed to echo the rider-waite silhouette in the mountain and the tree (and even in bssr herself) 10 wheel of fortune God i love the parallels between these 2⌠this card to me is about how you cant trust your current situation, good or bad, to last forever, and these 2 embody that perfectly imo. Wwx went from son of a well off servant and a powerful cultivator, to street rat orphan, to adopted son of sect leader jiang, to double orphan, to MIA, to terrifying but admired warrior, to terrifying and despised traitor, to dead, to, at the very end, suddenly respected and trusted again. The dishonesty and cheapness of whatever the publicâs current opinion of him is is portrayed beautifully as far as im concerned. And jgy of course claws his way up to power only to instantaneously become public enemy number one, to the point that heâs probably blamed for stuff thereâs no reason to believe he had a hand in. Wei wuxianâs silent astonishment at how quickly the cultivation world turns against jgy and towards him again is a delicious moment of thematic resonance. 11 justice I settled on this card for jc after he got booted from the emperor seat but i do think it fits, in a somewhat convoluted way. I turned both the sword and the scales into visual representations of the golden core transfer (can you tell im obsessed with it). According to biddy tarot, the justice card is partly about searching for the truth, and the scene where jc finds out about the transfer is of course a big deal. I was also very influenced by the reversed meaning again - which is about being reluctant or unwilling to face or accept the consequences of your actions. I feel on an intuitive level that this fits jc but Iâm not sure how well i can explain it - itâs something about how heâs a little too comfortable scapegoating wwx for things that were also, if much less so, influenced by his actions, and also something about the way he keeps wwx at an armâs length emotionally but still leans on him and accepts his support when he really needs it, and somewhat hypocritically expects wwx to put the needs of him and the jiang sect before the needs of others. And also something about the core exchange is the consequence and proof of wwxâs deep - terrifyingly deep, even - love and care for him, which is something jc doesnât seem to let himself acknowledge. Maybe even something about how you could argue that the way all of the jiangs acted around wwx - jfmâs favouritism that left him with the feeling of a debt he needs to repay, mme yus insistence that he be a servant more than a brother to jc, prepared to give his life for jc, and jcâs own unwillingness - or inability, he was a child after all - to clearly acknowledge wwx as an equal to himself, enabling wwxâs self sacrificial and protective tendencies - that all of this was what caused wwxâs complete and unquestioning willingness to do whatever it took to protect jc, and therefore paved the way to the golden core transfer. And i donât mean this to be scapegoating jc - especially considering how young he was when this all went down, it wouldnât be fair to expect this level of emotional perceptiveness, awareness and maturity of him - but i think adult jc has to grapple with the fact that the chain of cause and effect was not as simple as wwx fucking everyoneâs lives up to be a martyr, and that both jc and his parents had a role in that story as well. I donât even necessarily think this is something that jc only realised in the current timeline - i think itâs something he felt on some level this whole time, and it probably led to a lot of feelings of guilt - but the suibian reveal definitely puts it in sharp focus, and i think heâs now better equipped to handle this introspection than he was as a recently orphaned, traumatised teenager, lol. ANYWAY the window with the fabric is both a nod to the rider-waite design and a reference to the destruction of lanling - i actually did some basic ass research for this, and it seems that in ancient china fabric would indeed be hanged in a window if the normally used paper was damaged. The design of the window, as well as the very idea to use it to imply the reconstruction of lanling, was taken from this great piece of jc angst by my pal moroll1! Oh yeah also the covered window kind of works as a denial of forgiveness for jc because itâs like a halo but covered up... Also I completely forgot to put a blindfold over his eyes which would be perfectttt because blind justice and the core exchange......... ok moving on 12 the hanged man I always have issues with this card because i cant find a satisfactory summary of what itâs really about. Best i can tell it symbolises a need to hit pause, surrender or let go of something⌠ive also seen it tied to sacrifice? So mo xuanyu doesnât fit perfectly, but sacrifice is definitely there in a surface level reading kind of way, and the idea that you have to surrender or let go in order to achieve your goal does fit the whole deal of getting revenge but giving up your life in exchange and not being there to see it 13 death This is probably one of my favourite cards, definitely not because I have huge issues with change or anythingâŚ. I see this card as signalling the necessity of change or putting an end to something / leaving something in the past in order to start anew? At first i considered putting past wwx, mxy and current wwx here as a kind of transformation and one cycle flowing into the next... But firstly, Iâd already used mxy in the very previous card, so putting him in again would feel like overkill, and secondly, the longer I thought about it the less convinced I was that this would even fit with the cardâs meaning? Because coming back from the dead doesnât like... trigger an internal transformation within wwx or anything? Anyway, fun fact: the design I ended up going with was actually originally intended for judgement! I thought I was being very clever with the whole âfigure plays an instrument and the dead riseâ parallel, but apparently Iâd just completely forgotten that the judgement card had a completely different composition... Truly I was boo boo the fool... But yeah anyway at the end of the day I figured the design would kind of work for death as well, with Wen Ning and the theme of transformation, (since in his case coming back as a fierce corpse does actually mark a certain transformation in behaviour) and Wei Wuxianâs protection of the Wen people essentially signifying an attempt to break the cycle of oppression if that makes any sense? Like, wwx is trying to revolutionise the way the world works a bit, if you catch my drift 14 temperance The centrist card! Again this is probably going off track from the âofficialâ interpretation, but to me this card has a certain âdonât commit fully; do everything in moderation; donât take either sideâ flavour to it that i personally find infuriating irl and that i very much assign to lxc. Itâs entirely possible that Iâm misinterpreting his character because i didnât really pay him (and the 3zun in general) much mind while reading, but hell, Iâm allowed to pick favourites and choose who i want to interpret deeply vs shallowly. Again, i wish id chosen lqr for hierophant because its so annoying for a character i donât care about to get two cardsâŚ. But oh well 15 the devil My alternative idea for this was jgy as the devil and lxc plus nmj as the figures, but since all three had been featured already (multiple times, even!) i figured Iâd go with xy instead, especially since heâs among my faves lol. I think the devil signifies something along the lines of unhealthy attachment, obsession or addiction, which isnât 100% accurate in the case of xxc and a-qing, but if i stretch it a bit to cover toxic relationships in general, and especially manipulation or negative influence, i donât think itâs half bad. My main struggle here was to choose who amongst the xxc/sl/aq trio to choose for the human figures. 16 the tower Arguably jin zixuans death and the following massacre of nightless city were the final and most direct reason for the siege of burial mounds, and the tiger seal is good shorthand for wwxâs loss of control over his powers, which led to the deaths of jzx and jyl. When reimagining major arcana i like to feature some kind of building in this card (spoilers for a possible future project but in my rose of versailles major arcana set the tower is bastille) and even if itâs not a tower, the image of wwx looming over the gathered crowd from atop a rooftop is so good i couldnât resist 17 the star Struggled with this one - considered both jin ling and lsz for it, as symbolising a hope for the future, but that was kind of covered by the world so it wouldnât make sense to include here as well... As usual when I struggle with interpreting a card (as opposed to understanding it but struggling with matching a character to it, like with death or moon) I went to biddy tarot and read all the details about its meaning. What i got was that this card signifies an incoming period of introspection and inner peace following a time of turmoil, as well as a general moving on into a new, better phase of oneâs life or finding new meaning and purpose. The figure also suggests someone vulnerable, but possessing a keen sense of intuition as well as a good degree of practicality and common sense. Given all those, I settled for mianmian because IM LOVE HER..... I also kind of see her as a prelude to the âjust one person is enoughâ theme present in tgcf!! And i think her decision to abandon her sect because she saw the toxicity and corruption in it is a very inspiring action - even if it didnât make a large visible impact, i think the appearance of her and her idyllic family at the very end of the novel - paralleling and mirroring wangxian - implies that at the end of the day, it was a meaningful one 18 the moon Another card i ALWAYS fuxking struggle with - this time less because i canât grasp its meaning and more because I can never find a character that fits it well. I usually get fixated on the âdreams and subconsciousâ part, but if i lean more on the âdisguise, deceit, anxiety and fearâ part, i eventually figured the whole yi city arc wouldnât be a bad fit. I say the entire arc because it really does encompass all those themes if you include both the past and the present - xue yangâs disguise, his tricks with the villagers, a-qingâs lies and even xxcâs reluctance to talk about his past as well as xue yang pretending to be xxc all fit the disguise and deceit angle, and the general mystery and creepiness of the current timeline yi city work well with the anxiety and fear - the mist, the slow uncovering of the past, even a-qing being revealed to be an ally after scaring the shit out of the protags. I definitely struggled with including all the elements and characters, and even moreso with making them vaguely fit the rider-waite composition, but i think it ended up okay ish. OH and i completely forgot to draw mist swirling around them :( 19 the sun I was considering mianmianâs family for this one, but since I used her for star, I ended up with wwx and his parents instead. Once again Iâm reinterpreting the card a bit - normally I think it symbolises incoming times of pure happiness and abundance, as well as a connection with the inner child, but I gave it more of a nostalgic or sentimental twist - wwx looking back at the brief glimpse of his happy childhood. 20 judgement another card that i struggle to interpret a bit... Here i actually used the tgcf tarot zine as a reference! In it judgement is summarised as ârebirth, following duty, absolutionâ SO i figured that nhs, mxy and wwx all together would fit pretty neatly... wwx achieving (public) absolution through clearing his own name after being reborn, and nhs sort of calling on wwx to expose jgyâs crimes... Itâs a bit messy but not bad I think! 21 the world This ties very closely to my read on mdzs as a story - which is that itâs, at the end of the day, largely about cycles, and about how hard it is to break them, but how we gotta keep trying and have hope anyway. Or maybe more precisely, that the people directly involved with and influenced by the trauma of the past might not be able to get over said trauma and that the hope for healing from it will be shouldered by the new generation. Or something like that⌠Basically what i mean is that jc and wwx and lwj and lxc and nhs and jgy and all these people who were in the thick of the sunshot campaign and the siege are so profoundly affected by it that it genuinely feels by the end of the story like there is little hope for them to ever truly overcome that trauma and build a better future without repeating the same old mistakes - but there is a glimmer of hope in the new generation, specifically in jl and lsz. And itâs a bit paradoxical, because they have also been directly impacted by the past tragedies - lsz having his entire clan wiped out after wwx failed to protect them, jl losing both his parents to wwxâs mistakes - but despite that loss, and despite coming from arguably the two opposing sides of the past conflicts, they are both, in the end, capable of moving past that tragedy, of recognising the complicated nature of those conflicts (jlâs moment of clarity at the end is both heartbreaking and hopeful) and forging friendships between clans in the process. I honestly think that the extra where jl is struggling to assert his authority as sect leader, to treat his subjects well and to cooperate with other sects in a truly amicable way is the single hopeful ending note for the larger themes of the novel - it allows us to imagine that maybe these kids can learn from the mistakes of their elders rather than getting sucked in by resentment at those mistakes, and actually build a brighter future for the cultivation world. And sidenote, this is also why i have a soft spot for jin ling and lan sizhui as a ship... speaking of which their poses were directly referenced from the lovers card ehehe
Looking back, Iâd like to add some symbol of jin lingâs trauma so that it mirrors baby wen yuan in the tree stump... maybe his fatherâs sword?Â

all As for euffie ylfa and ww đ
Aptitude
1. what are your ocâs naturalabilities, things theyâve been doing since young?
Eustacia: Because of her mother,Una, she's been practicing glamour and cursework since she was achild, but she's had an innate talent for transmogrification magicthat Una never possessed. That lapsed as she grew into adulthood, butit was a good foundation for her chaos magic.
Ylfa: Hunting and acting. Shegrew up with only her mother for company, very isolated in thecountryside, and because of her mother's work (research into theviability of alchemy in a residential setting), she largely had tokeep not only herself entertained, but the both of them fed andclothed. On the entertainment spectrum, this meant lots and lots ofreading and pretend games, playing multiple roles to flesh out herstories. On the practicality end of things, she took up hunting smallgame after being taught by a few traders how to track and use a bow.
Wildwood: As the second youngestof eleven children, with a twin brother that required constant careand attention, Wildwood spent a lot of her time being her mother'sshadow. That meant cleaning, and chores, and laundry. But it alsomeant cooking and playing music. Her earliest and nearly onlyremaining memories of that time are being taught to cook for crowdsand playing her mother's autoharp. When that finally and blessedlywent to shit and she and her mother were rescued, her adoptivefather, Jocko, taught her to play the fiddle.
2. what activities have theyparticipated in?
Eustacia: massive militarycampaigns, guerrilla warfare, black budget operations, regionaldestabilization, âadvanced interrogation,â memory retrieval andfabrication, necromancy and ransom, state-sanctioned mass murder, riot suppression, insurrection suppression, leading violentrevolution, participating in the illegal sale of banned magicks, vigilantism. Nothing very good or cheerful.
Ylfa: Court intrigue, in-depthschooling, world traveling, counter-espionage, big-ass bat stunts, giant bat care, formal dance, learning world languages, deep coverespionage, counter-terrorism operations (for lack of a better termig!), mithridatism, selective dog training, getting shoved into avery loveless arranged marriage for political convenience thatneither party wants, warrior monk training, administering religiousrites and ceremonies, being a good kept court monkey for her queenand spitting out as many prophecies as possible.
Wildwood: Her criminal record islong and varied and includes but is not limited to: hostageransoming, bank robbery, horse thievery, identity fraud, dowry fraud, murder, improper disposal of human remains, train robbery, stagecoachrobbery, attempted murder, grand larceny, prostitution, materialproperty scams, assault and battery, assault with a deadly weapon, breaking and entering. On the less illegal side, she has attended twocotillions, plays concert-level violin, competed in shootingcontests, raced horses (both mounted and driven), acted as a honeypotand diversion, and uhhhh orchestrating the personal hygiene of themen in camp bc they fucking STINK.
3. what abilities do they havethat theyâve worked for?
Eustacia: Living a relativelynormal civilian life. From the time she was five, she's either been acriminal accomplice on the lam, an enslaved Black ops soldier, or aguerrilla revolutionary. Having a place that is HERS, that she comesback to everyday and has to maintain is a HELL of a lot differentthan anything she's used to. Not to mention the fact she wasadjusting to life with the better part of her humanity removed fromher body, making her incomprehensible on good days and utterlyvicious on bad ones.
Ylfa: Unlike Euffie, Ylfa had toadjust to enlisted life lol. Hey previous home lives had beenextremely casual, sedate, and private, so getting thrown to thewolves in the form of looots of resentful priestesses (who'd allbusted their ass to join the Beserkr's order, while Ylfa had beenforced in as punishment for a percieved crime) and an obscenely harshtraining regiment very nearly killed her from exhaustion if nothingelse. The loneliness and constant moving didn't help her either.
Wildwood: Sniping, bodydismemberment/disposal, empathy/sympathy. These all have to do witheach other. As a child, one of her older brothers (Atlas, he whocertainly acted like he had the world upon his fuckin' shoulders, andhe who was certainly built like it) put his hand on the back of herhead and smashed her skull against a tree. While it fucked her upphysically (broke her skull, injured her right eye, broke out herlateral incisor), it also gave her lasting brain damage. It becamevery easy for her to kill people because she didn't see them aspeople. She had to work very hard to give a shit about anyone (thatwasn't her mother or adoptive father) as an individual. Over 25+years, some of the damage has healed, and through her own work herempathy has gotten much better, but it's made killing more difficult.
4. what things are they bad at?
Eustacia: Domesticity ): my girlcannot keep a house to save her damn life. She's never stayed oneplace long enough for it to feel like home and she's always watchingthe door for her cue to leave. Her house is messy, dirty, anddisorganized and feels deeply, deeply impersonal. She simply doesn'tcare about the place she lives. Minor thingsshe's bad at: playing musical instruments, cooking food that is notbreakfast related, remembering important dates, self-restraint,healthy coping mechanisms, wearing colors that aren't black.
Ylfa: She'sabsolutely terrible at being her genuine self. She got too used totrying to be helpful or unobtrusive or sneaky, and as a result shebends her personality to best match whoever she's interacting with. It's gotten to the point that she thinks she doesn't actually have apersonality of her own--she's doesn't exist outside of whoever she'spretending to be for someone else, and she doesn't know who Ylfa issupposed to be. Minor things: consistently lies, doing laundry (hasdestroyed many sets of robes), disciplining her dog (Jokeri is aspoiled little tyrant and it's only tolerated because he's tiny),respecting books (serial spine-breaker and dog-earrer), makingfriends, respecting (or even remembering the names of) the othergods, huge blasphemer.
Wildwood: Woodputs the needs of others ahead of her own and if that isn't just asMary Sue-ish as shit. But it's ruinous and gets to the point ofself-destruction, literally forgoing basic self-care to tend to anylittle thing asked of her, leading to big, BIG fuck-ups as a resultof the neglect and wear. Most often this leads to exhaustion andfatigue, leaving her close to functionally useless when shit hits thefan. Minor things: she pinballs between booze hounding/cocainefiending and sobriety, is religiously intolerant of most Christiandenominations outside of Catholicism, says odd oblique shit ALL THETIME, double-talks, can certainly be cruel for the sake of beingcruel, gets entitled and aggressive when challenged or has factsthrown in her face.
5. what is their most impressivetalent?
Eustacia: this bitch has created LIFE. It was ugly andan abomination and she crushed it was a book, but the little freakmistake did live for a minute, and it was a result of her chaosmagic. Making something out of the nothing that is the universe'svast untapped stores of energy.
Ylfa: Ylfa is an *astonishing* airborne mounted archer, hitting targets from a distance of half a mile while flying at topspeed in the dark. She can also tie cherry stems in knots with hertongue and can pick locks faster than anyone she knows.
Wildwood: Besides being able to dismember an grown manin ten minutes and being able to land a headshot at almost a mile, she has a drinking toast for every occasion and can cook a full-onspread for 20 people with little to no notice if called upon.
