I've been wanting to share my merch haul from the recent PokeCon that happened in my country last month - so I thought to start off with these adorable frosted charms I got from Plupip !!! 💖💕✨

I fell in looove with these silly guys on sight - you actually get the choice to either pick out ones to buy individually, or get two different ones at random through a little gacha toy she has stationed at her booth. That's how I got a majority of these - with the most recent ones being my own online orders, hehe :} 💫

She has an online shop with the whole 60+ (and counting!) catalogue of Pokémon charms along with other merch like plushies, shirts, and pins, so do check her out when y'all can! 🥺💖💖💖

This may not technically be self ship, but I wanted to post this here anyway! My amazing, wonderful partner @cherry-bomb-ships and I sometimes talk about silly 'AUs' of ourselves and one of my favorites that we have is us in the pokemon universe, where we get to fall in love with our pokemon being our wingmen (or is it flipperman in Piplup's case?)

If we ever get another PMD with a brand new story, what Pokemon would you choose for hero and partner?

*if ur talkin like, options for people in the game, then i think it'd be ok to limit the number of starters (as much as it'd suck), but I'm not sure how so.

*it'd be fun to do like... a random assortment in the style of like, each pkmn gets a nature like the original but it's random as to which u get?

*Obvi i wouldnt want them to get gender split personally

*anyway maybe like, say brave is charmander, pika, machop, rowlet or something. Game rolls a die when you open up a new game and ur option if u get brave is [drum roll] machop! But if you don't get brave that doesn't rlly matter except for partner choosing bc it's whatever u didn't get personality-wise

*any pkmn that didn't get rolled could even have some significant role in some other way, like maybe another personality type could be assigned to a rival team (a team is assigned brave leader timid partner, and since u rolled machop then they have to roll for a dif one and got pika and cynda)

*for non starter options, i think all the ones from previous are obvi good choices! Otherwise, maybe a couple more pika clones (pawmi, marrill, and emolga could work?); fairy types like flabébé, impidimp, and fidough; a few regional birds like fletchling and rookidee; maybe a bug type like dwebble or sizzlipede (though id be worried about balancing issues for bug types i still want them 🥺 ); zorua (why hasnt zorua been added ... seems silly bc how popular it is); maybe another dragon like noibat, dreepy, or applin (or all 3 lol); lechonk could be cute (like munchlax's inclusion); and i also think rolycoly could be a cool twist one

Lonely: Cubone, Dwebble, Hisuian Zorua!

*out of just starters/the traditional picks, i would want to be charmander for sure, and whatever partner in the list covers charmanders weaknesses! (Mudkip mostly lol), but out of this entire list I'd be happy with most of em?

*if it was like gates and only the newest gen could be picked id choose fuecoco, if the last 3 gens were picked, I'd have a hard time deciding between litten and fuecoco (probs litten)

*i wish i had more time to sit and balance the list i made, bc on the surface i think i chose a good variety but also i probs am biased bc i love fire and dragon but then also i like little pathetic ones too so it's probs all over the place hehe.

Okay I will admit I do not have a ton of experience with Piplup BUT, for you Sidon, I can tell what I know, and what I know is that they’re really not the best traditional starters if you’re looking for a domestic Pokémon.

I’ll say this here as well as at the end, Empoleon trainers, PLEASE correct me and add on! I don’t want to be telling people the wrong things!

Starting with a struggle people tend to have with the Piplup line, because it’s the first thing I thought of. Piplup want to be self sufficient. They often will NOT accept food unless they think they earned it, and they do NOT like getting help from others unless they think they deserve it. As much as you want to help up a Piplup that’s fallen over because their heads are so damn big, they’d rather flail about instead of have someone help them out. If you lift them up below their flippers, they WILL flail harder. Place one hand on their little butts and slide the other one under their chests to gently right them. They won’t like it, but they won’t attack you if you do it like that.

On that note, Prinplup are worse. Unless you’ve managed to convince your Prinplup that you’re on equal footing status-wise, they will NOT listen to you. In battle? Sure, they do love to prove that they’re the best. Out of battle? They’re not social unless they can get other Pokémon around them to not contest them with anything. You’re going to have to do everything with your Prinplup FIRST, because it’s very hard to get them to think they deserve anything less. This can put strain on your relationships with your other Pokémon. Which is not good!

While Prinplup won’t often attack Pokémon that DARE think they’re equals with them, Empoleon fucking will! I haven’t worked with them personally, so I don’t actually know if there’s a way to get them to calm down with this behavior. If someone reads this and has something to add on, PLEASE do. I’d love to be corrected on their behaviors. Most of what I’m saying here is based on my experience with client Prinplup and stories from clients with defiant Empoleon.

Behavior aside, Empoleon don’t rust. While they don’t NEED to be polished, they LOVE having their horns all shiny. Members of the Empoleon line also enjoy showing off their strength, and finding ways for them to do that is a great form of enrichment. I know in Kalos they make special punching bags specifically for EV training and competitive Pokémon like Prinplup and Empoleon LOVE them. Incineroar love them too. But this isn’t about them. The Empoleon line loves hearing praise and receiving treats, especially if they have to work for the treats. Freezing a fish or some berries in ice and having your Prinplup or Empoleon show you that they can cleave through it to get their reward is a GREAT way to keep them satisfied. They’re like if kings were birds and had flippers that can concuss you.

so i came down with a pretty bad flu while i was in Langkawi the past few days and decided to stay in on the last night and omg??? i forgot how good it feels to just lie on the couch and browse Netflix and watch stuff without worry??? i watched a really heartwarming Korean film with my friends called Dream—we picked it because it had IU in it but it ended up being so much more than we bargained for, lol. the film depicted homelessness in such a compelling and realistic way—the common stigmas associated with homelessness, and the futility of common but thoughtless solutions—while portraying, with immense tact and beauty, the hope that comes with faith and friendship. i loved it 🥺 especially the bits about this one father who wanted to do his best for his daughter and how she was just so unwaveringly supportive and concerned and kept plying meat on top of his bowl of rice because she knew he wouldn’t take it for himself 😭

I also binged all 4 episodes of my blissful marriage and devoured all available manga chapters lmao PLS the male lead is so deliberately targeted towards my weak pathetic heart and i love it I’m so soft for their blossoming affection 😭 afterwards i flipped through some episodes of the latest Netflix adaptation of shaman king and omg it brought back a whole flood of memories. i used to watch it as a kid when it was airing on TV every night at 1130pm, and i would dutifully wait cross-legged by the TV with so much anticipation and excitement. Yoh is honestly such an inspiring character lmao especially when i was going through a really hard time in middle school (obviously i got bullied bcs i was admittedly quite a peculiar character). to this day his repeated mantra that it’ll all work out somehow is such a vibe. i adored his enduring optimism and kindness, and revisiting this was truly a blast to the past.

it also made me recall how inuyasha would show at 11pm back then, right before SK, and i got reminded of my trip to Japan with my bf this year where we got to sit on a really fun Ferris wheel!!! my bf did not get the reference (him: is this another weeaboo thing again) LOL but he happily obliged when i pulled him towards it after our tour around the aquarium and we had such a lovely time watching the skyline from above. definitely one of my favourite dates for sure! here’s a picture of us inside the actual thing, and one of him pretending to eat my piplup barrette 😆:
