word dump abt liyue and death bc i cant stop thinking abt zhongli, hu tao, qiqi, and baizhu.
its like.
liyue connections w death:
most of its land are ruins because of war and natural disasters.
its archon quests follows rex lapis' death and zhongli's funeral preparation for him (though, its most likely a funeral for guizhong instead)
the 7 pillars quest most likely takes place at the scene where guizhong died
the chasm. is literally just a bg place of death. the fact that its so heavily associated w injury, khaenri'ah, and yelan (who has the worlds second largest case of survivors guilt).
the chasm interlude quests heavily featuring xiao and yelan as xiao trys martyring himself time and time again because of his passive suicidality and bc it would literally be the same decision his friend had made centuries ago and yelans trying not to kill herself for being stuck in a position where she could potentially be the onlye one left alive again. the chasm gang literally being composed of all the elements of the deceased yakshas. after this we see xiao at pervases' shrine, the same place we find him later during that poetry event where he made a poem honoring all the yakshas. ITS LITERALLY ABOUT GRIEFFFFF ITS LITERALLY ABOUT GRIEFFFF.
death as change
morax decides to retire from archonhood bc he believes his people are strong enough to govern themselves. this reflects guizhong's beliefs and ping's actions and ok tangent do you understand why i love guiliping do you see the vision.
he lives on, but as zhongli, a regular person with a regular job.
zhongli takes up work with the wangsheng funeral parlor. this is incredibly important, both bc of the aq funeral thing and bc of hu tao's attitude towards death
hu tao heavily respects death as an equal of life. she's understood how to grief as a child of a long lineage of funeral directors + as a child who waited at the borders of life and death waiting for her dead grandfather to come back.
hu tao's respect for the dead is exactly why she's so at odds with baizhu, who's constantly looking for ways to extend life (both as a doctor and. yk. immortality.) <- much to be said here ofc w baizhu and changsheng being inspired by bai suzheng and changsheng previously being the herblord but i cant put that into words.
its also why she was so desperately trying to return qiqi back to the dead. its only after she realizes how much qiqi loves being alive that she stops. do you get it. death is not the end. death is just another form of change. do you get it.
also i have to fit this in here. xiao and zhongli are so very obviously narrative parallels come on.
also the fall and reconstruction of the jade chamber.
