so is the experience of gen z not being allowed to be teenagers yet another effect of the older generations insisting on passing down this trauma, just like we were forced to watch videos of jumpers at like age 10 to ensure we “never forget,” like simply reading about it in history books every year wasn’t enough?
Maybe this is the wrong platform to pose this question given the average tumblr user but
Is it just me or did our generation (those of is who are currently 20-30 ish) just not get the opportunity to be young in the 'standard' sense?
Like, everyone I talk to who's over 40 has all their wild stories about their teens and 20s, being young and dumb, and then I talk to my friends and coworkers and classmates, and we just... dont.
#sorry i sort of went off#i get very angry actually about how so many of the adults in my life actively chose to directly expose me and my peers to the trauma of 9/1#we could have been the first generation to heal afterwards#but nah our teachers and principals and parents decided#that it’s apparently better to show ten year olds footage and audio from some of the most horrific things in our country’s memory#they said “oh you’re not traumatized like us because you were too young? we’ll fix that”#and they made us watch these videos or listen to people’s last words in front of all of our classmates#so whoever cried or had to leave the room was weak or susceptible to teasing and bullying#we just had to be alright with people’s last words#at age ten. and eleven. and twelve. all the way until they stopped showing those videos in high school#desensitize us to violence im sure that will go over well
