i’ve seen your posts about addie and while I love the book and it was my #1 read for 2020, I can understand why it isn’t for anyone. what I mostly wanna say, tho, is please don’t let addie ruin ve schwab for you! her other books are incredibly different and, thankfully, lack love triangles. some of the books lack romance completely. I just love her, she’s my fav author, so just thought I’d share! (start with the darker shades of magic trilogy btw ⭐️)
oh it definitely won't! i mean, TILOAL was kind of this perfect storm of all the tropes i happen to dislike, so i recognise it's probably more of a special case than it is indicative of schwab's work in general.
and like i said, i adore her writing style, which is pretty much the only reason i get into a book in the first place. plus, i own all of adsom and the vicious duo, and my dad has read and loved both, so now that i've established i enjoy her writing, i'm pretty much obligated to read the others 😂🙈
thank you for coming to my inbox to reassure me! 🥺❤️
#my dad was like ''you HAVE to read adsom next i haven't had anyone to talk to about it for a yEAR >:(''#*stares at tbr pile*#my bookshelf is legit bending with the weight of it but adsom has been on there for a good long while so it's probably time i give it a go#thanks for the tips babes!! 🥺🖤#asked and answered#em answers#godgavemelou#<<i love your username btw!!#tiloal#ve schwab

June 2018 Favorites
I’ve been attempting to blog since high school, but I was never really a good writer so I was only reblogging stuff by then. I started a photoblog in 2013 (around the time I went to college) but college happened and I was bombarded with all the pressure, overwhelming exams and workload, but now that I’m a graduate and unemployed, I figured, why not? With this, I will be backtracking a bit to June and I’ll be starting off with a monthly favorites!
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Number one on my list is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Yes, yes, I was only able to watch it on June 2018 because it was my first free time in months! It was post-board exams and my brother kept pestering me to watch this series with him. I loved it so much; tbh I never loved any other pilot episode except this series’. The humor was spot-on and I always, always laugh at every episode. The series was never offensive to me and from what I can see, they’re actually promoting and celebrating diversity, LGBTQ, what happens IRL with policemen, criminals and jail. A major plus for the amazing character development. Noice. Toit.
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
After a year, this is the second non-engineering book I held. The first one was Charlotte’s Web, which I sincerely liked, but Wonder was more compelling for me. Anyhow, Wonder is a great book. You can’t NOT (double negative for emphasis) shed a single tear while reading this. My heart is all for the fragile yet courageous little protagonist. The story is a great reminder to always, always have courage and to be kind. This book showed how we all see things differently, how different perspectives may seem, and how we all have our own battles.
The changing narrators and points of view along the book was a refreshing change to me. (I first encountered this kind of story-telling in The Kane Chronicles Trilogy by Rick Riordan, my favorite author in the whole galaxy.)
AirBNB
I tried AirBNB for the first time with my childhood friends in celebration of the positive results of my board exams. We stayed at this super cute, industrial-themed condominium unit in Tagaytay City which we fell in love at first sight with! The room was equipped with towels, kitchen essentials and basically everything a basic hotel supplies. I find that it’s a bit pricey given that we only stayed there overnight, but we booked the room only a few days before so 乁༼☯‿☯✿༽ㄏ
However, we really enjoyed our stay and we were already planning to go back because it’s just really pretty and fun to hang out at!
K-Palette 3-Way Eyebrow Pencil in Shade #4
This was gifted to me by an uncle during our annual family Christmas exchange gift. I didn’t like it at first, as I find it too sheer, given that it’s the darkest color in the range, and honestly, I didn’t know how to kilay during that time. We then had our Oath-Taking Ceremonies and a makeup artist did my look for the day (and also shaped my eyebrows), and days after, I tried using this pencil and WHOA DUR this is as natural as it can get! I’m honestly not into Instagram brows–I don’t have my brows groomed but I like it thick and natural. Without any product on, my eyebrows have bald spots and sparse hair. *sad face* It’s beautiful, it’s sheer, but buildable. Shade #4 is perfect for Filipinas with black hair. This pencil also features a brow powder and spoolie. So convenient, right?
BTW, I am in no way a makeup guru (I only started hoarding makeup THIS 2018) and this brow pencil is idiot-proof!
CosRX Centella Blemish Cream
My cystic acne had gotten worse over the years and I researched rigorously on spot treatments. I then found out about this all-star Korean cream and I didn’t hesitate on buying it! On my first application (you just pat the cream on the spots and leave it there, no rubbing!), I felt a bit of cooling sensation, as if the product was soothing my zits. I only apply it during nighttime as I can’t be seen during the day with white cream all over my face. At the morning after application, redness and size were reduced, and at the fourth day, the pimples were completely gone! As of right now (9 October 2018) I don’t have big, painful, cystic acne so I believe this also improves skin over time (for me, with consistent application). I feel like it has made me oilier these days, but at least I don’t have as much pimples as before.

I love your bool recs and I was wondering if you could do some more soon?? I really trust your taste and I'm out of stuff to read. As a lesbean, I personally adored your lgbt books rec post, btw.
I know lesbean is a typo. But now I’m imagining gay little beans and it’s adorable. Anyhow. Previous rec here for reference, I’m trying not repeat.
Lesbian books I’ve read and enjoyed since October 2017/last rec post:
- Literally all of Kirsty Logan’s stuff. I have recced her before, but seeing as I have read more since, I will do it again: The Portable Shelter, The Gracekeeper, The Rental Heart and Other Fairytales. (All wonderful, fairytale/magical realism esque, a bit dark, a bit hopeful, and more than a bit gay. I am buying a kindle solely to read her ebook short stories. Enough said.)
- The Well of Loneliness, by Radcliffle Hall. (Sad at times, but a classic, and very well written. It’s one of the first published Lesbian novels from 1926, but it reads quite modern in the style)
- A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, by Becky Chambers (Lesbians. Sci fi. Aliens.)
- Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, by Fannie Flagg (Historical romance? American South? One of those spanning a life type novels. I wasn’t jaw dropped by awe, but I enjoyed it. It was a cosy book.)
- As an author, watch out for Emma Donaghue. She’s a great writer and she does a lot of LGBT stuff, like my previously recced fave “Kissing the Witch”, but also “Frog Music” and other things.
A shortened version of my lesbian to-read list: Eelgrass, by Tori Curtis, When Fox is a Thousand, by Larissa Lai, Curious Wine, by Katherine V. Forrest, Art and Lies, by Jeanette Winterson, Hood, by Emma Donaghue
You might enjoy this tumblr @fuckyeahlesbianliterature
Other LGBT books I’ve read recently and would recommend.
- Shades of Magic series, by V. E Swchab. Includes “A Darker Shade of Magic,” “A Gathering of Shadows” and “A Conjuring of Light.” (OH MY GOD. My love, my life. The most main characters aren’t LGBT and it’s not a major part of the trilogy, but this series is amazing so I will take any excuse to rec it and the LGBT love isn’t a line and you miss it either. It’s very much there. Anyway, this might be my favourite series that I’ve read in a really long time. Fantastic villains. I recced it for the entire month of November immediately after devouring the trilogy, which shows you how much I loved it. There’s not a single character I didn’t adore. Also. Fantasy! Fantasy for adults!!!!)
- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of The Universe, by Benjamin Alire Sáenz (Cute, romance, YA but sometimes we all like a bit of gay YA. I sped through this book, I really enjoyed it, couldn’t put it down.)
- The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon. (One of the main characters is gay, though it’s not a huge part. But this is a great book, it’s all about comics post the second World War, Jewish Protags, I have recced it before as part of my book-a-month recs. It’s so good.)
A shortened version of on my immediate GBT to read list: Tin Man, by Sarah Winman, The Vitner’s Luck, by Elizabeth Knox, Call Me By Your Name, by André Aciman,
Other books that I’ve read and loved and am recommending because you gave me an excuse:
The Secret History, by Donna Tart (Fave!!!)
The Invisible Circus, by Jennifer Egan (I love Jennifer Egan, Look at Me is my second fave of hers. This is perfect if you’re 18, or you’ve just graduated, or are a little unsure on where you belong in life.)
Anything and everything by Gillian Flynn: Gone Girl, Sharp Objects, Dark Places, The Grown Up
The Lover’s Dictionary, by David Levitan
When God Was a Rabbit, Sarah Winman (this may also have a small LGBT hint if I am remembering correctly. Mostly I remember loveliness. Sarah Winman has a uniquely lovely writing voice.)
The Picture of Dorian Grey, by Oscar Wilde (One of my classic faves. Slightly gay, being dear Oscar Wilde, beautifully written, and gothicly fantastic as many of my favourites are.)
Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. (Noble Prize Winner of Literature yo, this man.)
And If you’re feeling a bit less plotty and a bit more literary awe:
The Unbearable Lightness of Being, by Milan Kundera
Fugitive Pieces, by Anne Michaels

okay for some reason the first book that came to mind is Vicious by V.E.Schwab- it is one of my favourite books of all time and there is something about it thats just so clever yk? it is a duology but since it was technically supposed to be a standalone you could read it as such too (i havent read the second book yet because ive heard mixed opinions lmao). it is dark, fast-paced and urban fantasy this it is perfect for you if you like complex characters or morally grey characters, or characters with questionable motivations or all of the above.
its about two college roommates (victor and eli) who see the same brilliance and arrogance and ambition in each other. in their senior year, a shared research interest leads them to an intriguing possibility - that under the right conditions, someone could develop abilities. but when their thesis goes from being academic to practical, things go wrong. horribly. fast-forward ten years later, victor has successfully broken out of prison, acquires a ragtag group of misfits and decides to seek revenge on his old friend (i wont say more pls read it)
in theme, the next book i’d like to recommend is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (is it obvious that I really love the trope ‘college-student-gets-consumed-by-academic-THIRST-becomes-ambitious-and-morally-VERY-grey’). my absolute favourite classic, i will never stop raving about it, i dont even think i have to explain the premise. dark, reflective, slow-paced, horror, sci-fi absolute classic. it is so much more than you think it is and if you havent read it yet, highly highly recommend.
@lullsinelocution recommended Circe, which i think is absolutely BRILLIANT (yes to having TASTE btw??). i’d also like to recommend The Song Of Achilles by the same author. it isnt exactly an unpopular book lol you’ve probably already heard of it a million times but this book is the closest thing i have to a favourite book. its historical (greek mythology?), medium-paced, literary, romance, emotional, lgbtqia+.
its a retelling of the iliad, centered around the story of achilles and patroclus. i really wont say any more lmao bc just read it TT this book shattered my heart and my heart used to clench just thinking about it (and the only book that broke my heart the same way since this book is the seven husbands of evelyn hugo)
i think you should definitely check out these three books but i’ll just leave some more books if you wanna check out more lmao
six of crows (obviously, i recommend this to everyone)
shades of magic (trilogy by v.e.schwab)
the secret history (by donna tarrt- same author as the goldfinch)
felix ever after (kacen callender - i just love this book so much okay)
radio silence (alice oseman)
since i've stopped giving a shit about academic pressure SUGGEST ME SOME STANDALONE BOOKS
#youve probably read a few of these books maybe#BUT ANYWAYS#i love giving recs so ask me if you need more lol#felix ever after and radio silence are both ya contemporary#so a bit off theme#but if you check out any ya contemporary at all#try out one of those two#MAYBE ITS PERSONAL BIAS#but i think its two of the best ya contemporaries out there#okay this is pretty much unnecessarily long#so i'll stop now hahah bye#k bye im gonna go now#book recs

book blog newbie tag
Hi everyone!
I’ve been thinking for few months now how to start my journey with books on social media. I wanted to start booktube, but decided it’s too big step for me for now. I also started bookstagram, but this form didn’t speak to me either. Too much of photography, not enough content. That’s why I thought that maybe blog would be perfect for me and why not use tumblr for this?
I will write here reviews, longer than on my goodreads or twitter accounts, tbr, book hauls, wrap-ups and of course, because that’s what I’m starting my blog with, tags.
I’m starting with tag because I wasn’t sure how to start my blog and I decided to do the same thing as one of my favorite booktuber; with a newbie tag, just with the question made for book bloggers.
So without further ado, let’s jump into questions!
1~Why did you start this blog?
I wanted to be part of bookish community on internet, but as I said before, other forms wasn’t really for me, so I decided to blog. It’s more anonymous, yet more open and with more possibilities.
2~What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?
Tbh, excpet my strange sense of humour and reminding you all to read the best trilogy on earth aka Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab? ... Probably nothing, but we can pretend you like me for it.
3~What are you most excited for about this new blog?
Meeting new people, having relationship with people, who reads same books as me, getting to know all of your opinions on different books. Of course I hope that blogging will give me courage to make my own booktube channel, but that’s a dream for a future.
4~Why do you love reading?
This is one of my favorite question. I love reading because it let me disappear from the real world, let me hide in new worlds. I feel a little bit like Kell from Shades of Magic (which btw you should read asap). I love meeting new characters, their minds, believes, conviction, how they think. I love reading becuase it’s a bit like travelling in time. It’s like travelling the world, being in places I’ll probably could never visit, getting to know this places. I love how every person have different opinion on one book, how every person can find something for themselves in the same book. I love that books gives me emotions that nothing on this world could ever give me. And the last thing (for now, cuz I have so many more reasons, but it’s getting bit long now) is said by a quote of one of my favorite author “for words have the power to change us” which basically means to me that every book is changing our point of view, they create us sometimes this little we cannot notice this, which is the most incredible and the most scary thing on earth at the same time.
5~What book or series got you into reading?
And that is a really hard question, because I have read since forever, thanks to my mom. She was always reading for me and my sisters, and as a child I was watching her as she was reading on her own, so I kinda caught it from her... and it stayed with me.
6~What questions would you ask your favorite author?
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
7~What challenges do you think starting a blog will be the hardest to overcome?
Probablyfrequent posting. RIght now, at the beggining I plan to post once a week, but hopefully in a near future I will be able to post two or three times. Of course I’m mostly scare of making mistakes, but I’m just a human and I have to be aware of that I will be making them.
8~When did you start reading?
So as I said in question 5, I was reading since I knew how to read.
9~Where do you read?
I mostly read in living room or my room. I’m not a fun of reading outside or in means of transports, I unfortunately cannot read on the go, so I usually put on audiobooks.
10~What kind of books do you like to read?
I am a fan of YA books, especially fantasy. One of my favorite genre is crime. But I’m not limit myself to those genres. I am open for almost every books, except for romances.
That’s it when it comes to my first post and tag. I hope I haven’t bored you to death and that you will enjoy this journey as much as I will. I am really looking forward your response to my future words! I also look for your questions and sugestions for future post. What kind of topic you want to talk about? What kind of topic you want me to talk about/hear my opinion on certain things? I will do my best to answer all of these. I’m open for everything!
See you later! :)

Name: Daniela
Nicknames: mostly just Dani, but as of late i’ve been called Vanessa more times than I can count (bc my friend and I have been interning at the same institute and our mentor keeps mixing up our names) and so that is now a little inside joke turned into a nickname
Zodiac Sign: Virgo
Height: according to my id, i’m like 163 cm but i measured and i’m BARELY 160 cm (they lied to me!!) ... but yeah i’m just small
Orientation: ... you mean like sexual?? cause idk, i love all people but i get uncomfortable when someone brings up sex
Nationality: German
Favourite Fruit: oohhh that’s hard cause i like a lot of fruits... my top 3 have to be pineapple, mango and kiwi
Favourite Season: maybe fall?? cause i love to wear layers
Favourite Book: i have different faves for different reasons... but one that has really wowed me was The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett because it’s so well written and kinda dark, dystopian almost (love dystopian universes btw) and it made me discover this amazing fantasy trilogy (that’s now I think a quintrilogy) and like 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves dark fantasies about a broken society fighting not only demons but also themselves
Favourite Movies: A Million Ways To Die In The West (bc i could watch that for literally ever), any Marvel movie really, Pitch Perfect
Favourite Scent: Vanilla, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, that freshly ground/brewed coffee smell when you walk into a coffee shop
Favourite Colour: any shade of blue and light purple
Favourite Animal: penguins but also otters!! and dogs and bunnies!!
Coffee, Tea or Hot Chocolate: all of them!! but it depends on my mood and time of day, like coffee is more of a morning thing for me whereas hot chocolate is more of a night time treat. UNLESS I just went out to eat for dinner, in that case, I get espresso (just a little father/daughter ritual that stuck)
Average hours of sleep: like 6-7 maybe??
Favourite Fictional Character: this is the one i always struggle with... but I have recently rewatched the first season of Rurouni Kenshin and it brought up old feels of Kenshin because he’s just so soft but also protective and cool so... yeah
Number of blankets to sleep with: 1
Dream Trip: there are too many places i want to go to... Italy, Japan, South Korea, Ireland (again), New Zealand... the list goes on but those are the main ones
Blog created: Nov. 2016
Number of Followers: 70 (i’m a very small blogger), but thankful for all of them
Random fact: I once showed my friend pictures of Min Yoongi (cause he’s my wallpaper in everything) and she doesn’t really get kpop, like kind of also judges me for it (like almost all my irl firends do actually...) and she was like “Why do you have a pic of a girl as your screensaver??” and I just looked at her like “what?? that’s Min Yoongi aka the love of my life!! He’s a guy!” and she just stares at me for a sec and goes “Oh... well... he looks like a girl.”
TLDR: my friends think Yoongi is a girl
wow i really overshared today!!! anyway, i’m gonna tag: @literally-just-yoongi-trash @kihosprincess @monmoongie @glazedbangtan @penguin-neckpillow @imeightout and anyone else who just wants to do this (and possibly overshare like i do)
