#last morning when i got up i wasn't at all sure i'd live to see the release of deadzone lol#since then i've been able to walk and stand up somewhat normally without wanting to cry and/or die#last night i slept more than the two previous nights combined. which still isn't that much but at least i did sleep#i did also wake up so completely drenched in my own sweat (from mild fever going down after i had taken a painkiller for a headache)-#-that i had to get up and dry myself with a towel 😂#and there was a huge wet spot (of sweat) on my bed where i had lied 🙂#i have lost three fourths of my vocal range so i can't e.g. laugh#(not that i've had a whole lot to giggle about these past few days 💀)#i'm bummed out i can't do preparations for my new job#i definitely should've started earlier but i would've had plenty of time this week had i not caught the cold at the stupid festival 🤧#i did not plan this! besides i'm not gonna start working weeks ahead for a job i'm not even getting paid for yet#for the same reason no one can expect me to work while sick for a job i haven't gotten a single penny from#hell even if i WAS paid no one could expecte me to work while sick#so i shouldn't feel guilty for wanting to work on my fic instead of the course plans#which btw i already sort of have because my predecessors gave me practically ALL the material i might need#so all i reallly need to do is change the dates of the course plans and bob's your uncle#but i'd like to also study the material a bit before teaching it so that i'll at least seem like i know what i'm talking about 💀#mom said on the phone that i've managed situations like this before so i will manage this too and she's right i guess but 😭😭😭#but yeah i guess this is some sort of developement from last year when i had the 'rona-#-and felt awful about ordering food/groceries in because ''i don't want to be a bother'' 😂

The tape recorder is clicked on.
- I found this in a locked drawer in the bottom of a desk that was meant to be thrown away. Given that Nana did actually record some tapes, and that this was only ever on paper... I don't think she wanted this found.
- It's too late for that. For what it's worth, I am sorry for this, it's just... I have to know.
Statement of Shimura Nana, the previous Head Archivist, regarding the beginning of her career as an Archivist. Original Statement given 9th December, 2XXX. Audio recording by Yagi Toshinori, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, Tokyo branch. Statement begins.
I shouldn't be here.
I should've never listened to En talking about this damned job offer, should've never walked in this building, should've never accepted the position in Research, should've passed up the stupid promotion. I should have run when I had the chance, before I was caught here, pinned like a butterfly to a board, stuck like a cell between plastic squares under a goddamned microscope.
But I didn't. And I'm here. So... may as well go all in.
I'm going to be saying quite a bit in this that most people in the higher-up positions probably wouldn't want you to know, "you" being whoever's reading this. The next Archivist, probably; I hope, for your sake, that you know what you're getting into with this, but who am I kidding? You probably don't know anything more than I did when I was in your shoes.
That's alright. You'll learn, because you weren't picked for this job because of any kind of "weak constitution." Maybe you're a skinny little nerd, for all I know, but if you're here, if you're alive and you're sitting in this office, you've got a hell of a lot more fight in you than your appearance might let on. Maybe even more fight than you know. You might end up thinking I'm crazy, you might get even more paranoid than you are already- and yeah, you're paranoid, at least a little bit, because you don't study fear without it rubbing off on you a bit- but whatever you take from this, just know:
You will survive this. No Archivist ever died from their first encounter with the supernatural, I can promise you that. Maybe your third or fourth, maybe in five years, maybe in fifty- you'll get past the very beginning, though. Your first is what you will survive. The beginning.
I'm going to prepare you for what comes after that, to the best of my abilities.
I can't go into too much detail, though. That's the antithesis of this. I could leave you a note or record you a tape, technically speaking, and I could run through everything, go over every detail of what you need to know, in the clinical and detached tones of some anthropologist or taxonomist, but that wouldn't work.
I know it doesn't work, because I already tried. Three full notebooks. Five complete tapes. All gone the minute I left them for future reference. Gone from my desk drawers, from my shelves, from the fully sealed boxes I put them in for good measure.
A Statement, though. That, I know for a fact, will not disappear. That would mean losing knowledge, losing an entry in the Archive.
To make a Statement, there must first be a story. A real one, not some metaphor or made up little fairy tale made for the specific purpose of illustrating a concept. That would be too easy.
So... here's mine. Don't judge me too harshly once you've got hindsight on your side, alright?
I never had stage fright when I was younger. I heard about it, knew that some people got nervous when people were looking at them, paying attention to them, but I never applied that to myself. I never trembled at the feeling of being watched, though I knew that it was what creeped out many of my peers more than anything else- at least, that's what they swore up and down when the conversation meandered to that point.
I didn't get it, personally. People will look or they won't, what did their judgement matter to me? Sure, I'd felt embarrassment before, but I'd also been able to brush it off or turn it into a joke that I could laugh at, too. It had never been a big deal.
Maybe I was a paragon of self-confidence, maybe I was just ballsy, I don't know, but the point is I never understood why being known was such a bad thing.
Not until I met him.
The man who knows everything. He knows everything about me and everything about you, yet he's always searching for more.
When I met him, I got the sense I was being Seen, inside and out, every tiny piece of me weighed against an invisible metric, and I... I was judged and found lacking. It didn't even take a minute for it to happen, but when that chill ran down my spine from that judgement from his empty, empty eyes... he drank it in. It was almost tangible, how much he enjoyed watching me squirm, like I was a particularly interesting insect.
That's all he wants. To watch people shudder in fear. He wants that fear, he's ravenous for it, desperate for more, more, more.
That's why he built this place. That's not his name above the door, of course, that's some man in England who's two hundred years dead by now, but the only reason the man who knows everything isn't in a grave just as withered is because... I don't know, honestly. I suspect that the fear sustains him, much more than food and oxygen and all that sustains us, like a- like a psychic vampire or something.
God, that sounds so fucking stupid. That's the reality of it, though. He drains fear from everyone who has some of it to spare, whether or not they want to give it.
I met him back when I was a cop. Don't judge me for that, I used to believe in clean-cut justice before reality proved itself more messy than that, but the point is that that's the context I met him in.
He wasn't someone we just pulled in off the streets, you understand. I'm not repeating the story of some creepy homeless schizophrenic, or something, he was someone that the whole force both desperately wanted to catch, and yet dreaded even being in his presence. He was- is, I should say, because as far as I know, that's what he's still doing to this day- the kingpin behind all organized crime in Japan. All of it. Everybody bows to his leadership, because if you don't, you're dead. No trial, no negotiations, just there one day and a corpse the next.
He calls himself "Sensei," and there was no one who could cough up a name to contradict it in the time I was there.
Maybe someone knows his name by now, though. Either that, or he's more selfish than I thought.
I met him multiple times over the course of my police career. Every time, he somehow managed to unnerve me more, seeming like he was turning it into a game to mess with us cops, me most of all. I know why he didn't like me, in hindsight; I had a best friend at the time that was apparently clinging to his humanity by a thread, not that I knew back then.
The first time I met Sensei, I was just some rookie cop; didn't even have a partner yet. I still had about a year to go before I met that best friend. I already said that his gaze flayed me alive, and that's about the extent of that first interaction, where he stared at me and I was unnerved by the thought of being Seen for the first time in my life.
It wasn't until the second time that I saw him that things got interesting. More interesting than just staring, anyway, though he did that a lot, still. He looked me right in the eye and didn't even hesitate to identify me by name. He didn't even take a second to think, when I had only ever met him once, two years prior, without even a word exchanged between us.
He identified me near-instantly, but it took even less time to disregard me completely. Instead, he focused on my new partner, Torino Sorahiko. Sorahiko would go on to become my best friend, my brother in all but blood, but at that point I barely knew him.
I don't know what he saw in Sorahiko that seemed to captivate him so much, but whatever it was, nobody else seemed to have it. None of the other police, none of the criminals he had working under him. Nobody but Sorahiko.
Sorahiko didn't seem nearly as affected by Sensei's presence as anyone else. He seemed to disregard him, almost, as just another big crime boss that needed to be taken down; no special considerations or anything about just how damn creepy he was. Maybe that's what Sensei found interesting? I don't know. What I do know is that Sensei could talk to Sorahiko and have some sort of back-and-forth that he couldn't get from anyone else, not even me at first. Everyone was just too afraid of him to try and match wits, if there was ever a time that he would try.
There wasn't anything special about their conversations, though. They sounded exactly like any other interrogation, or on-the-field encounter, or whatever other situation they happened to come across each other in; the only interesting thing was how Sensei seemed to revel in it, losing that eerie calm demeanor he kept on at all other times.
It was shockingly human of him.
Time wore on, and we never were able to keep Sensei arrested for long. There were no official records when we tried to book him, and, well... no one even knew his name, and he wasn't exactly volunteering information. I grew closer to Sorahiko, officially got Sectioned with him, and picked up quite a few stories along the way.
The thing is that being in the force, it... it changes you. Usually for the worse. You sort of... you shut down, almost. It's not that you're having a meltdown or something all the time, it's just that you start to distance yourself from things, more than the average person probably should. I did it, to an extent; Sorahiko even more so.
He started pulling away from everyone. He'd never had a real close family to begin with, and he wasn't the most popular in our precinct. Nobody ever really considered him a friend, other than me. Maybe it's because we had only ever partnered with each other, and he didn't make much of an effort to reach out? That's probably it, to be honest.
He also picked up a smoking habit. He swore he'd never touched a cigarette, but sometimes I caught him breathing out lungfuls of pure white smoke, and it wasn't exactly hard to put the pieces together. He must not have been doing it all that much, because I never smelled it on him, so I wasn't going to make a big deal of it, lest he start doing it more.
I didn't get concerned about that until he started shivering everywhere. It was slow, almost enough that I didn't notice, but he became one of those people that's cold all the time. He started wearing his jacket even in summer, when it was nearly unbearable to be wearing anything heavier than a tank top, and yet there he was, cool as a cucumber in an average autumn outfit. His skin was always like ice whenever we had physical contact- I started thinking that he must have been anemic, or some other health hazard that comes with smoking, but he kept insisting that nothing was wrong.
While this was happening, we kept coming in contact with Sensei, more and more. He would only talk to Sorahiko, and by that point, they had established a rapport that went far beyond the "job," for either of them. Sora... he started pulling away from me, and towards Sensei. I don't know why.
That... might have been a lie. I suspect that he was bothered by me and my concern for what he kept brushing off, what he was clearly hiding, what he seemed to be lying about- and while Sensei made it clear that he knew about it, he expressed a perverse sort of excitement about it.
He quit one day without warning. Sorahiko, I mean. There one day, gone the next. Nobody even- no one told me until I asked, like the whole department had just forgotten about him.
I'm not proud of what I did next. I tried to track him down, first to the car shows he used to talk about, then bars he used to hang out in, then finally to his apartment.
He wasn't there. He wasn't anywhere. I didn't- when I opened his front door, everything was packed up in boxes, and when I went further inside, I found a stranger in there- she had just moved in, she'd said. The apartment had been up for sale, and it came fully furnished, she'd said. Apparently the landlord told her that the previous tenant had just up and left without a word, so when the lease ran out, he put it up for sale, furniture and all.
She'd also been told that he'd been a recluse. She didn't expect anyone to come knocking, so she hadn't yet changed the locks.
I left. Wandered aimlessly for a bit, then put everything into my job. If I was solving more cases, doing more, then the chief wouldn't care as much if I was using police resources to track down someone who wasn't technically missing, right?
I followed every lead that I could. Started hacking security cameras, motion detectors, microphones, all hoping for the tiniest hint of where he could have gone, where he might have been heading, why he had left without so much as a word.
I didn't eat. Didn't sleep. Just poked through more footage, pulled more interviews, trying to find something; and then I had the brilliant idea that Sensei had been behind it all.
I don't remember where it came from, if it was influenced by anything I'd seen or if it was... divine intervention. I'm inclined to believe that it was something towards the latter.
It wasn't exactly difficult to find Sensei. Just follow the drug rings, the leads picked up by the human trafficking parts of the force, and all of a sudden I was at his doorstep.
I found him in an old warehouse, actually. It was abandoned long before then, but there was still trash all around, as well as pipes and wires that used to be hooked up throughout the building. He'd been using it as a base to store drugs, I don't even remember what kind, but he was moving them out of there when I found him.
He was alone when I came in. I thought it was a stroke of luck finally heading my way, but now I know that it really wasn't.
I went into that warehouse and screamed at him. Insulted him, demanded he tell me what the hell he did with Sorahiko. I didn't care how fucking creepy he was, I didn't care how easily he could have killed me, then or down the line, I didn't care. I just wanted my best friend back.
He didn't shoot me immediately, instead he just... walked up to me and put his hands on my shoulders. I thought that it was supposed to be demeaning, at first; now, looking back, I think I've realized how pathetic I must have looked. I was shaking like a small animal, with eyebags darker than the walls around us, I... I don't think he ever actively disliked me, either. At least, he knew that Sorahiko cared for me, so he at least gave me that tiny modicum of- not "respect," but something close to it.
That action did, ironically, steady me enough to bite out my question. I asked where Sorahiko was, because of course Sensei would know, of course Sensei would've had something to do with it. He didn't ignore it, like I honestly thought he would; instead, he tilted his head somewhat, and responded,
"Now that is interesting. I thought you would end up going Hunt when we met, or else Slaughter, but I never believed that you would go for Beholding."
He backed away and just smirked at me, while I demanded answers on what the hell he was talking about. With every question he seemed more and more smug, like he'd won a game that neither of us knew we had been playing.
Eventually, he told me, "Your power is weak now, but there is potential, I'll give you that. I think you'll find that if you asked anyone else any of your questions, they would respond honestly, involuntarily; but if you want anything of me, you'll need to do a little more than that. As for Sorahiko's whereabouts, let's just say he doesn't want to be around anyone for the moment, hm?"
I lost it. I just lost it on him. I'm not even entirely sure how it happened, just one moment he was talking, and the next I was on top of him, bashing his face in over and over again. I was going to kill him.
I nearly did, too, because on the floor next to me was a piece of pipe that must have once been connected to the main plumbing system of the place. It was made of metal, I knew it before I even touched it, and nearly without thinking I reached out and grabbed it. I raised it over my head with both hands, and was about to swing down on his head when I was stopped by something else.
It felt like somebody was grabbing the pipe from behind, and so I looked back to see him. Sorahiko. Gripping my makeshift weapon, staring at me almost expressionlessly, surrounded by that same strange white fog that he always tried to hide.
"Don't."
Just that one word, and I let go of the pipe. He tossed it to the side, where it clattered loudly against the ground. I stared up at him in disbelief, as though at any second, he would vanish all over again.
"Wh- why did you just- " It wasn't until I started stuttering that I realized I was crying, and even then I had no idea how long. I didn't know why he'd appeared, why he'd left, how he'd managed to sneak in without being detected by either me or Sensei.
Sorahiko pulled me upright, leaving Sensei on the ground for the time being. He'd end up being alright, anyway, and Sora even told me so a little later.
He pulled me close, hugged me tightly, and I started sobbing in earnest. I probably got blood and snot all over his jacket, but I don't think he cared. He told me that he'd left because he had to, which wasn't really an answer at all, but it was better than anything else I'd gotten.
He didn't really explain what "Beholding" meant, or what it meant that he'd become "one with the Lonely," but I figured it out soon enough after, once I got this job. Sora's actually the one who told me that Sensei had founded this place, though only after I'd gotten employed here; Sensei had apparently decided that he would be better off associating it with the Magnus Institute in England in order to keep his own name out of it. Apparently, he'd always been a bit afraid of his own patron, so that decision was sound, I suppose.
I see Sorahiko sometimes. He visits me on occasion, though he maintains that Sensei still holds a grudge. He never comes here, says there are too many prying eyes, which I understand. I'm not sure how he still tolerates me, now that I am what I am, but maybe he's just used to me.
So. That's my Statement, that's how I got here. I guess I didn't end up explaining a whole lot, did I? Just that Sorahiko started out human, then ended up getting power from things that aren't exactly known by the wider populace.
You'll get those powers, too. You're an Archivist, after all. You'll end up with something closer to what I got than what Sorahiko did, so at least you've got more context on yourself, right?
Ah, hell. I guess I'll be trying to leave a few more of those notebooks and tapes around, because this really wasn't the explanation that I wanted it to be.
Statement ends.
- This... was less enlightening than I'd hoped it would be. I'm glad that she did mean for this to be read, at least, because I'd feel very bad if this was supposed to remain private.
- There are a few things that warrant some elaboration here. That "En" that was mentioned early on was the previous Archivist before Nana, and before him was Banjo Daigoro, and before him was Shinomori Hikage, and then it's all blank. All I know is that there were three Archivists before Shinomori, the first of which being rumored to have been the brother of the first Head of this branch of the Institute. There's very little information on the other Archivists available, and even what I know about Nana was because I'd known her personally.
- What's interesting is that there's no record of a Torino Sorahiko ever having been associated with the police, in any district. In fact, there's no record that anyone of that name ever existed at all, in Japan or otherwise. Maybe Nana used a fake name for him in this Statement, or maybe something else is going on; either way, I'll need to investigate further on him, maybe try and figure out a way to talk to him, in addition to this "Sensei."
- About the... about the powers. I don't believe that I've gotten anything like she's described, just knowing things out of thin air or being able to get anyone to answer my questions involuntarily, but I also haven't been at this post for very long. I... I don't think she's lying about it, though, even though in all the time I knew her, she never asked me a question I felt I had to answer. I'm sure that she did ask questions, though, because who doesn't?
- Either way, I'm going to be doing more research on this in my own time. This tape, and this Statement, will not be made available to Research, or anyone else, for that matter. It is imperative that this does not leave my office, for fear of... I don't know. I don't know what would happen if this were to get out of here, but I suspect that it would be very, very bad.
- End recording.
The tape recorder is clicked off.

saigokumota for the character bingo :3
Sorryyy this took a while, but anyways prepare for Brain Rot
Tumblr media
First things first, Shuichi. Oh my God this man,, he is my everything. I want him and I want to be him at the same time. It gets lowkey so annoying when ppl (mainly ppl who hate him) reduce him to just this emo waawaa boy who should've went instead of Kaede. Sure its sad to not have gotten a female protag but I think to throw away his growth (that wasn't Just from that) because of it,, sucks.
I put a /j for the ship thing because I think most shuichi ships are quite good.... minus Saiouma. God. Sorry to my followers/moots that like them but to put lightly I cannot stand that pairing it makes my ass itch.
Tumblr media
Ignore my ugly stars </3 anyways, Kaito!! He is such a bright guy oh my goshhh, and you know me when I see a character with a color palette thats made up of my fave colors (in this case, purple) I go go nuts. He's a goofy funky man and the autism rays are Beaming from him, its unreal.
I need. People. To stop. Calling him dumb!!! I'm sick of it!! He may be loud, he may be impulsive, and he may not think things through a lot. But that does NOT make one stupid. He's still an astronaut (a damn good one at that, even if at times it doesn't always shine through when it should) and he is not a completely oblivious dude, sheesh. Also like,,,, could we stop with the whole homophobic comment thing? Yes we shouldn't just gloss over it but idk, to immediately jump to a character being So Horrible due to saying one thing like that is kinda shit.
Tumblr media
Last, but certainly not least, GONTAAA. Fuck man he is so wonderful and nice and gorgeous looking I want to cry and die for him. It sucks so so bad he didn't get more moments to shine because I truly think he could've grown so well if he got to live even just a lil longer. Also like his story is so?? Tragic?? He may not show much sadness for being shunned by his rich family due to being raised and cared for by his forest family but Boy,
...... Sighhhhhh, can we stop babying this man so much, fandom? Gonta is a grown ass man who studies living creatures as his talent. HE KNOWS WHAT SEX IS!!! HE KNOWS HOW TO READ, AND WRITE, AND DRAW GOOD ASS DIAGRAMS OF BUGS!!! I am so tired of the fact that just because he talks a certain way or thinks a certain way (and is quite ND coded, cough) Gonta gets put down like he's a child when he Isn't. Biting and killing!
So yeah, it's funny how these three are kinda similar with how my opinions are laid out, but it's kinda cool how different they are despite so if that makes sense.

Love and Monsters
Steve Harrington x Reader!Henderson
Oneshot
Tumblr media
Y/N Henderson's life was not like any other normal teenager's life, on a very young age her only friends was her brother, Dustin and his friends.. She was not popular in highschool, but she was not a nobody neither.. Y/N was just invisible, lost in the sea of students.. She was almost through highschool though, one day her life was turned upside down, literally and figuratively.. It's been months since the 'thing' happend, but she was still shaken up.
Y/N was laying in bed, My Generation blasting from her stereo.. She was home alone, her mother was out with some friends, her brother was hanging out with 'King Steve'.. Ever since Steve helped them about Dart, she grew closer to Steve but their short lived friendship ended when Dustin left for camp and Steve worked on their family business while she was stuck preparing herself for college.. Y/N misses Steve, his unfunny jokes and oh god--his laugh..
A loud knock startled her, she shot up from her bed, memories of what happend was flashing back to her.. Despite what she tells her friend, she was not okay.. She almost died twice and that opened up trauma's and issues within herself..
Another loud knock startled her, Y/N shakes her head and just ran to the door.. Reaching their front door, her icy hands made contact with the cold steel knob..
It revealed a disheveled Dustin and Steve, she could tell that there were excitement dripping all over them.. Steve was still wearing his sailor work uniform, he looked cute to Y/N but she once threw that thought in the back of her mind..
"What's up?" She questioned the two.
Dustin just smiled and pushed pass her, while Steve was reluctant to go in.. Steve avoided Y/N for almost the whole summer because of the daunting realization that he was catching feelings for her and that scared him.. Y/N was the kind of girl that likes to watch nerdy movies, spend hours playing games with a bunch of kids and save the world two times.. However, Steve was scared, he was still stuck in the unjustified rules of highschool and popularity. . He still wanted to be 'King Steve', but he also wanted to be Y/N's..
"Nice outfit, sailor boy.." Y/N winked and laughs at Steve, he just shakes his head and went inside their house..
Steve made his way to Dustin's room with Y/N right behind him, but before reaching Dustin's room, he passed Y/N's room.. He unconsciously stopped as he looks around, observing every corner of her room.
There were posters plastered all over her walls, books were all around her room in her bed, shelves and even floors.. In the other side she had a small collection of music that made Steve smile.. Because they had the exact same taste, she is the perfect girl.
"If you want to go in, you're free to wander around my room, anytime.."
Steve turned around to face Y/N, he misses her.. How Y/N sarcastic remarks leave her sweet lips or how she rolls her eyes whenever she see something stupid.
"I might just take you up on that.."
"Hm-mm.. You didn't even talk to me when Dustin left, you broke my heart, Steviee.." She jokes, but it sounded a little bitter.
Y/N did get hurt, Steve stopped talking to her when Dustin left, it seems like Steve didn't really like her as much as she thinks he did. Y/N was bored and got stuck just studying and sometimes hanging out with the party.. It was fun but she was looking forward to hanging out with Steve.
"I'm sorry about that, I didn't want to see my old friends hanging out with someone like yo---" Steve stopped his sentence, he didn't mean that.. His mind was a mess, he said those things because he didn't want Y/N finding out his stupid feelings
"Right..Yeah, I get it.."
"Y/N that's not what I me--"
"Cause King Steve shouldn't be hanging out with people like me?Gotcha.."
Steve didn't even had the time to reply, he was met with Y/N's slamming door.. He didn't mean that.. Steve loved hanging out with Y/N, he want to give her something special.. Steve wanted something more from Y/N.. He knew exactly what and he didn't need a reason why but Steve wanted to give Y/N something more..
Y/N was hurt, she didn't know why but Steve words brought devastation to her.. She felt disappointed and upset, Y/N was expecting something special.. She didn't know what or why but she was expecting something more from Steve.
Y/N was dropping off Dustin to the mall where Steve was working, her lips were in a unsual frown.. Y/N wasn't usally like this, she was having a bad week, Steve just hurt her feelings and she was taking it much harder, it was very unsual.. The two Henderson was making their way to the Scoops Ahoy shop, Dustin was rambling about a message he picked up while contacting his girlfriend.
"Are you listening?" Her brother asked as they reach the store.
"Yepp, you should go in now.."
"Y/N, this could be a good thing!"
"I know..If you need my help, you can find me in the food court.."
"Y/N.."
"Yeah, Dus?"
"Are you okay?"
Y/N's mind went blank, she hated lying to her brother but she didn't want to worry anyone.  She laughs and messed Dustin's hair.
"Of course.. Now go, you know where to find me.." With that she left..
Y/N was not okay, the last time she slept was a month ago.. Nightmares kept crawling back to her, she was growing more paranoid by the day.. She was not okay, but she couldn't tell anyone that.. Everyone else is okay, even Wil who had it more rough than her. And to top that up, she was broken hearted by Steve's rejection of their friendship.. Y/N just massaged the bridge of her nose, when will she be fine?
Dustin and Steve was in the corner of the mall with binoculars in their eyes, Steve saw Y/N.. Sitting alone in the corner, a walkman in her ears and a book in hand.. Y/N was mouthing the word as her eyes read every word on that book and Steve couldn't help but feel all giddy and guilty inside.
"You see anything?" Dustin snapped Steve back to their current task.
"Uh, I guess I don't totally know what I'm looking for.'' Steve answered honestly, Y/N distracted him again.
"Evil Russians."
"Yeah, exactly. I don't know what an evil Russian looks like."
"All blond, not smiling."
"Mm-hmm?" Steve's eyes didn't looked for any Russians, his eyes drifted to Y/N spot but she was gone.. Where did she go? He couldn't help but worry, was she talking to someone else?
"Also, look for earpieces, camo, duffel bags, that sort of thing." Dustin added.
"Right, okay, duffel bags." Steve darts his eyes away from Y/N seat but it only fell on a girl he asked out earlier.
"Oh, you've gotta be kidding me." Steve mutters.
"What?" Dustin questioned.
"Anna Jacobi's talking with that meathead Mark Lewinsky."
"If you're not gonna focus, just gimme the binoculars."
Dustin got annoyed by his distracted partner, he should have brought his sister along.. But he knew that Y/N was not okay, she seemed distant and lost in her own mind.. Always spacing out and Dustin can hear her cries from his room, it killed him to see her loving and hyper sister transform into a walking corpse.
"Aw, Jesus Christ, whatever happened to standards?"
"I mean, Lewinsky never even came off the bench." Steve rambled on, annoying Dustin.
"Dude, you are the worst spy in history, you know that?"
The two fought for the binoculars, but they just looked stupid.. Dustin initially gave up and gave the binoculars to Steve.
"I don't get why you're looking at girls. You have the perfect one in front of you."
"Seriously, if you say Robin again..." Steve closes his eyes waiting for Robin's name to come up but it never did.
"No, Y/N.. My sister.."
Steve's heart clenched at the mention of her name, he wants Y/N too.. What can he do? Y/N hates his ass now, he was a jerk and he didn't deserve Y/N.
"No, man, she's not my type." Steve answered while he diverts his eyes away from Dustin.
"I saw you staring at her closed door for about 5 minutes."
Steve eyes grew wide at the realization that Dustin was watching the whole time.. Dustin just shakes his head, if he was asked he'd say that her sister felt the same way..
"She's not even... in the ballpark of what my type is, all right?"
"What's your type again? Not awesome?"
"Thank you."
"Hm."
"For you information, your sister is too sarcastic, she's too nerdy for me.."
"Also, she's too...boyish.."
Beautiful, that's what he wanted to say..
"Dude, that's my sister you're talking about, and besides she's not like that.. She's nerdy but so what? Y/N's also not boyish, she's just secured with her masculinity.."
Dustin's word echoed throughout Steve's system, he already knew that.. But somehow hearing it from another person's perspective made him like you more.
"Y/N's just not my type.." He lied..
Y/N was everything he ever wanted in a girl.
"Thanks for the clarification, Harrington." A voice surprised the two.
Y/N was standing behind them, her arms crossed..  Steve's eyes widen in surprise, did she hear everything? He didn't mean that, what did he mean?
"I didn't mean t--"
"Dustin, if you told me you'll stalk people in malls, I should've brought you to a psychiatrist.." Y/N ignored Steve and just focused on her brother.. Y/N would be lying if she haven't felt more hurt by the words Steve dropped.. She had been listening since the talk about girls came up, Y/N spotted the two doing eccentric things and she decided to eavesdrop.
"No, it's called spying.." Dustin rolled his eyes at her sister remarks while Steve was still frozen..
"What's the difference?" Y/N asked, her eyes still focused on he brother..
"It's just different, okay? Were looking for the--" Dustin stopped and looks around to see if anybody was near..
"Russians?" Y/N continued in a loud tone.
"Shh!" Both Steve and her brother shushed her. Y/N was surpised, she glares at the two and moved closer to them.
"Fine, can I tag along? I'm bored and it'll be nice to be a national hero."
The two looked at each other, Steve was nervous.. Y/N obviously didn't want him around, but this could be a chance for him to apologize to Y/N.
"Sure, you can help us look for russians with dufflebags and camo." Dustin pulled her sister to his side.
"That's kinda racis--"
"No, it's not!" Dustin cuts her sister off making Y/N laugh..
"Whatever you say Dus.."
And that's how she ended up inside a theater with two kids and two drugged teenagere.. Y/N's breathing was heavy, they were captured by Russians just moments ago.. Adrenaline was pumping through her veins, she thought this town was finally normal again, but turns out she was wrong.. Very very wrong..
They needed to get out of this hellish mall, Y/N need to find out if there's still russians lurking out, looking for them.
"The two of you need to stay here and take care of them." Y/N instructs to her brother, she pointed at a floopy Steve and Robin.
"Wait--Where are you going?!" Dustin stopped her by pulling her arm.
"I'm going to see if those fuckers are still looking for us.."
"No, we'll come with you.."
"Dustin, you need to stay here and keep a low profile.."
"Y/N don't be a hero.."
"Hey, Dipshit!I'm not trying to be a hero, what I'm doing is protecting you guys because our two friends are drugged and beaten while we brought a little kid into our mess! And I will do everything to keep you all safe, even if that means I get hurt or killed!"
Dustin knew that there's no talking Y/N out of this, her sister was right.. Taking a deep breath, he just nods and hugs her sister..
"Just please, stay safe.." Dustin was in the verge of tears but Y/N held him tight in her arms.. Dustin pulled back, Y/N gave her brother a comforting smile, she rubbed his cheeks and pat his head.
"I'll be okay, I'm a Henderson for god's sake.."
Dustin laughs as tears stroll in his face, she kissed his forehead and walked away, trying not to attract attention.. Taking a deep breath she left the theater, she'll do whatever it takes to keep her brother and her friends.. Y/N's mind flew to Steve, she was pissed off but she was not sure anymore.. The way he saved them and got beat up for them, she couldn't find a reason to be mad at him, all she can think about is his childlish look and how hot he is in his sailor uniform. Y/N just shakes those thoughts away and tried to focus on her task..
Russians..
Steve and Robin were throwing up in a seperate cubicles, they were getting the drugs out of their system.. Retching and puking can be heard all through out the theater bathroom, Steve groans and flushes the toilet.
"The ceiling stopped spinning for me. Is it still spinning for you?" Robin's voice can be heard from the other cubicle.
"Holy shit. No. You think we puked it all up?" Steve rested his back to the mini wall inside the cubicle..
"Maybe. Ask me something.."
"Interrogate me." Robin said in a mocking russian accent.
"Okay. Interrogate you. Sure. Um... When was the last time you, uh, peed your pants?"
"Today."
"What?"
"When the Russian doctor took out the bone saw."
"Oh... All right, my turn."
"Okay. Hit me."
"Have you... ever been in love?"
"Yep. Nancy Wheeler. First semester, senior year." Steve imitates a gunshot.
"Are you still in love with Nancy?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I found someone else, she's a little bit better for me.It's crazy. Ever since Dustin got home, he's been saying, 'You know, you gotta find your Suzie. You gotta find your Suzie.' "
"Wait, who's Suzie?"
"It's some girl from camp, I guess his girlfriend. To be honest with you, I'm not 100% sure she's even real."
" But that's not- that's not really the point. That doesn't matter. The point is, this girl, you know, the one that I like, it's somebody that I... didn't even talk to in school. And I don't even know why."
"Maybe 'cause Tommy H. would've made fun of me or... I wouldn't be... prom king. It's stupid. I mean, Dustin's right, it's all just a bunch of bullshit anyways. Because, when I think about it, I should've been hanging out with this girl the whole time."
"First of all, she hates me now because of a stupid thing I said but when we hanged out, we were bonding and shit.. She was perfect for me, she's nerdy, hangs out with kids too much.. She likes the same things I like, her brother is my bestfriend.. Sometimes I wonder if she's real, because she's too perfect."
"Wait--You like Y/N?"
"Yeah, ever since last year.. I like her so damn much, I can't even believe that I said to her that I shouldn't be hanging out with someone like her."
"YOU SAID THAT?" Robin's voice boomed out all over the bathroom, Steve just sighs and slids out of the cubicle..
"Unfortunately, yes.."
Steve slid in to Robins cubicle, she was glaring at him.
"If you ask me, Y/N doesn't deserve someone like me.. She--She's too nice to be caught up in my miserable life.. And besides she would never like me.."
"I think you're still high.."
"No, I'm not.."
"Do you remember what I said about Click's class? About me being jealous and, like, obsessed?"
"Yeah?"
"It isn't because I had a crush on you. It's because... she wouldn't stop staring at you.."
"Mrs. Click?" Robin chuckles and just shakes her head.
"Y/N Henderson, I wanted her to look at me. But... she couldn't pull her eyes away from you and your stupid hair. And I didn't understand, because you would get bagel crumbs all over the floor. And you asked dumb questions. And you were a douchebag. And- And you didn't even like her then and... I would go home... and just scream into my pillow."
"But Y/N's a girl.."
"Steve.."
"Oh.."
"Yeah, now listen..Don't give me the 'she doesn't deserve me' and 'she doesn't like me back' crap.. Y/N was inlove with you since highschool, now you will tell her all about your mushy mushy feelings and you'll two will get married, have kids and you'll have me to thank for. "
"But what about you?"
"Please, I moved on.."
"Really?"
"Hell yeah, with my pretty face?I could find someone in a jiffy!"
The two were laughing when Dustin and Ericka burst into the bathroom.. Annoyance and frustration written all over their face..
"Okay. What the hell?!" Dustin asked very annoyed.
"Dude, we're normal again.."
"That's not the problem now, we need to find Y/N and go with the rest of the party."
"Y/N's not with you?"
"Do you see her?" Erica asked with the normal sass in her voice. Robin rolls her eyes at Erica who just glares at her.
"Where did she go?" Steve ignored Erica's sarcastic question
"She said she'll check the perimeter, but she hasn't come back since." Dustin answered, she was worried for her sister.. In their situation, who wouldn't?
"Shit." Steve and Robin both utter at the same time.
Y/N was changed into a much more inauspicious clothes, it was just some pants and a shirt tucked into it.. She fixed her disheveled hair and wiped her sweat.. She needed to blend in, her eyes wander around the mall.. There were Russians walking around, bviously looking for someone and that someone was them.. All the exits are heavily guarded by guards, there's no way out..
Taking a deep breath she walked back to the theater, praying that her brother and friends was safely still there but before she could even reached the theater, a russian man spotted her..
"I got eyes on one of the target!" The russian said into his earpiece, making Y/N run to the higher level of the mall, her heart racing and she was starting to feel tired.
Y/N just ran until she lost the russian, her breathing was getting shorter by the second..  Y/N's leg was starting to hurt but she ignored it and looked down to see if she can spot her brother..
And there they are, getting chased by guards.. Worries pumped into her brain as they run.. She needed to help them, if not they could get killed.
"Hey stupid spies!I'm right up here, morons!" Y/N screamed at the top of her lungs as she waves her hands around..
Steve and Dustin was horrified as they hide into the counters, Y/N was risking her life for theirs..
The guards that was chasing them made eye contact and targeted Y/N but before they could do anything a car honk.. The russians looked at each other, confused and dazed.. Eleven can be seen controlling the car, she throws it at the bad men and all they could hear were groans..
Y/N felt a surge of relief, she made her way to her brother.. Dustin, Robin, Erica and Steve pop out from behind the counter, steam hissing.. Y/N saw her brother and they all rushed up to hug her..
A tight hug welcomed Y/N, but this hug wasn't just from Dustin.. It was also from Robin, Erica and Steve.. Suddenly they all look up to see the rest of the party.. The hug was cut off by Dustin running to hug Mike and Eleven.
"Lucas?" Erica saw her brother and it made Lucas confuse..
"What are you doing here?"
Y/N who was just taking in deep breaths smiled to herself.. They were safe, but she knew this was not over.. Steve stayed in Y/N side, Robin's word replayed in his mind.. This is his chance to say his undying love to Y/N.
"Y/N?"
"Hmm?" Y/N saw Steve besides her, she was growing tired but Y/N needed to keep thriving for everyone.. Y/N saw that Steve was hesitant, he was nervous and it made her felt nervous too.
"I--I uhh.." Steve mumbles, his tongue was backing out.. Y/N had such a powerful effect on him, to the way she says his name, and everytime Y/N calls him, his heart skips a beat.. It sounds corny, but it was true..
"What?Do you need a speak and spell?" Y/N joked, it didn't help a struggling Steve.. He started to grew more anxious, he needed to get this off his chest.. This could be the last time they all see each other alive, there's no telling what could happen to them.
Y/N was just staring at him
"I have something to confess---"
Steve was cut off by El who was in pain and grunting in the floor..  They all ran to her aid and helped her with the pain she was going through.. Steve slightly curses at himself, maybe this was not a great time for a love confession.. He needed to focus on surviving this hellish adventure.. Again
It finally ended.. Y/N was relieved, it was over.. They were safe, Y/N and Dustin were sitting in the back of an ambulance, a blanket around them as they hug each other..
"If this shit happens again, we're moving.." Y/N jokes.. Dustin chuckled, maybe they should.. However, the adventures were growing more fun and dangerous..
"Nah, we love being heroes.."
Y/N laughs as she held her brother tighter, she fixed his hair and wipe some dirt off his face.. Even if he's old now, he'll always be Y/N's baby brother.. She smiled at the memory of Suzie and Dustin singing in the middle of mayhem and chaos.
"Stooop, I'm all grown up now!" He stood up and made his way to his friends..
"Don't get too far, lover boy!" Y/N shouted causing Dustin's cheek to blush..
Y/N sighs at the sight of her brother walking away from her, this is the last time she'll save the world, she was tired of monsters.. Y/N was just enjoying the cold air of the night when someone cleared their throat.
"Hello to you Harrington.." Y/N smiled at Steve, he was just standing infront of her.. Y/N can't help but feel giddy when Steve's in his sailor outfit.. It saddens her that Steve was still stuck in his highschool mindset..
"I have something to tell you.." Steve mumbles incoherently, but Y/N understood it.. Steve was always nervous when Y/N's around, he remember the first time he saw Y/N..
Steve saw Dustin on the street asking for help, and he didn't believe at him first but he was soon convinced by how Dustin was nervous and scared.. They pulled up at the Henderson's residence, that's where he first saw--no that's not the right word..
That's where he first acknowledged Y/N..
She was sitting on the porch steps on her pajama's, there were dirt on her face and her hairs a mess.. Y/N's face lighten up when he saw Dustin getting out of the car..
"Hey Dus------What is he doing here?" Y/N's face dropped when he saw Steve also getting out of the car.
"He's our back up.." Her brother answered short and continue walking into the entrance of the basement.
"I'm back up..'' Steve said cocky at Y/N, she just scoffs and followed Dustin..
"For a guy with a black eye, you're awfully confident.."
"That's what seeing a pretty girl like you does to me.." Steve didn't know what he ate that time but he had this whole new confidence when he started talking to Y/N.. However, Y/N didn't seem impressed to his corny jokes and pick up lines, she was always scoffing and rolling her eyes..
"Yeah, you said that too when we were inside..That" Y/N's voice pulled him back to the present.. Y/N gestured at the burning mall infront of them.
"Yeah.." Steve cleared his throat, he opens his mouth, but the words won't come out he's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now, the clocks run out, times up, over, blaow   .
"Are you gonna say something?" Y/N was starting to get nervous, did she do something to make Steve act strange? He was shaking, the sweat on his forehead is flowing like the Niagara Falls.. That's not attractive yet for some reason she found it hot..
"Oh--Yeah--Uhh.." He failed to say words again, why can't he just go straight to the point?
Robin who was with the rest of the party was staring at a stuttering and nervous Steve.. The rest started to notice even Jonathan and Nancy who was in each others arms..
"When is he gonna tell my sister that he likes her?" Dustin ponder as he stares at the two..
"I don't know, he's taking forever just uttering one sentence.." Lucas pitched in making the others laugh..
"I thought Steve was a suave and cool guy?" Mike jokes causing some of them to laugh, some was just quiet.. They were still having a hard time grasping all of this, especially Max..
"He's a nerd just like you guys.." Nancy answered, they all shake their heads as they watch Steve nervously fidgets..
"Alright, I finally had enough.." Robin whispers, the party turned to Robin, carefulky watching to what she had under her sleeves..
"HEY Y/N!" Robin shouts..
Y/N broke her gaze with Steve and brought it to a shouting Robin, not far from them.. Steve just froze to his place, panic started blaring out through his mind..
"WHAT STEVE'S TRYING TO SAY IS HE FREAKING LIKES YOU!" Robin shouted, and it all made them freeze.. Y/N blinked rapidly, did she hear that right? Steve l-likes her? What? When? How? Where?
Steve felt embarrased, he wanted the crawl in a hole and die.. Robin was dead to him, how could she do that? Now Y/N's gonna start to avoid him, she obviously doesn't like her back.
"I-Is that true?" Y/N finally asked the question she was dying to ask, she never really thought about Steve that way.. Fine, she's not gonna lie, there were some thoughts about Steve that kept her up at night..
"I can explain--If you don't feel the same it's totally fi----" Steve panicked and randomly said any excuses he can think off, not giving Y/N a chance to speak..
Y/N rolled her eyes at how Steve was rambling on, she smiled and stands up.. Pulling Steve sailor outfit, she kissed him..
Steve pressed his lips harder on Y/N, he wanted this kiss to happen since he first saw her.. And now it's happening, Y/N puts her arm around Steve's neck.. This was her first kiss and she was glad that it was to Steve.. They both kissed as the burning Star Court crumbles infront of them.  Y/N didn't knew that you can find love and monsters in this terrifying situation..
Dustin groaned at the sight of her sister and bestfriend kissing, he wanted to vomit and scoop his eyes out.. This was not a sight for sore eyes..
"Ugh!I don't want to watch my sister exchange salivas with Harrington!" Dustin sigh under his breath
"Get used to it, you'll be seeing a lot of him.." Robin teased making Dustin die inside.
"Dammit!"
Y/N was just thinking that some people lost someone special, Eleven lost Hopper.. Max lost Billy and the rest will wake up in the morning with terrible memories haunting them everyday, they can no longer feel the assurance that they're safe in the quiet town they grew up to. They knew everything that lies withing the depths of this ground, all the horrible things that Hawkin Labs brought.. Chief Hopper and Billy Hargrove died for them, they were heroes.. And the sad part is, no one will ever know.. Those who deserves to be recognized is no longer here, the heroine act they did save the world yet the world doesn't even know about them.. But Y/N and the rest knows that the sacrifices they made won't go to waste, they'll do everything in their power to keep whatever haunts this eerie town at bay.
I found this highly nice but cringey at the same time so bear with it, I also wanted to update my series about James Potter but I just can't seem to end it ughhhhh..Anyways, I hope you guys like this one..

Inertia — Jean Kirschtein
summary: A little gravity and spilled coffee never hurt anybody, and it certainly wouldn’t hurt Jean, especially if coming from you.
warning: cursing, gender-neutral reader (no pronouns mentioned), you won’t get the gist of it if you don’t remember 8th grade science lmao ❤️ (laws of motion)
genre: modern au, fluff
word count: 1.3k
a/n: very much an impulse post, this has been collecting dust in my drafts for too long lmao, I hope you enjoy this <3 I sure didn’t 😀
Tumblr media
Jean has never been good with science.
He learned it for a number of years in different classes — biology, chemistry, physics — and he still couldn't tell you anything other than that mitochondria was the powerhouse of the cell.
It wasn't all that bad at first. He did enjoy it in the earlier years of school where most of his teachers breezed past it along with social studies. It was when the class actually started to learn periodic elements that things took a turn.
He learned it, nonetheless. There really wasn't a rule that gets you out of being taught a subject, as uninteresting as you may find it or the class itself.
Despite this, Jean isn't exactly a lost cause in the science department. A few things have stuck with him, believe it or not. Gravity, photosynthesis, some Charles Darwin dude.
But now, he wishes he payed attention more in science class. Maybe he would've understood what you were saying the first time he met you.
"Geez, do you always have somewhere to be?" Jean had asked you with a scowl. He was sprawled on the floor, looking up at you. The two of you weren't acquainted yet. Not necessarily.
He placed you very easily, though. He'd seen you running around the university's campus a lot of the time. You never seemed to be still, in one place, in one piece.
The reason behind it? He didn't know or care.
You had bumped into him a number of times. The first three times, Jean waved the incident off in good-nature. He thought himself to be a man with patience, something you didn't seem to have. There was no harm in running into someone from time to time.
It was the fourth time that he wasn't so pleased with. Each time you bumped into him, you sent him tumbling on his ass. Hard. He always landed on the floor in a comedic position like those cartoon characters on T.V.
And each time — no matter the day — you, somehow, remained perfectly unscathed and standing. That wasn't even the worst of it: you always stood there, a hand on your hip and an impatient expression painting your face.
All that ever did was bruise his ego and ass a bit. You usually went your separate ways after quick apologies, and Jean would see you leave in a quicker speed than when you'd arrived.
But this time around, you had a cup of coffee in your hands.
"What if I do?" you had countered, bending down to help him off the ground. You were scowling. Scowling! How could you look so displeased when it was him who'd been spilled with coffee?!
“Maybe you should manage your time better.” he bit back, allowing you to help him up.
"Maybe you shouldn't walk along the inner corners of hallways."
"Maybe you shouldn't run in the building." Jean told you, trying to ignore the large patch of his damp shirt that clung to his midriff. It was sticky and hot, and he didn't like it one bit. "Besides, everyone knows the inside lane is for leaving."
"No, it's not." you threw back quickly, as if you had been prepared for this interaction. Had you had this conversation with someone else before? How many other people had been victim of your coffee throwing and iron step?
"The outside lane is for when someone is leaving, and the inside lane is for coming in. Same goes for stairs."
Jean raised a brow, patience running dangerously thin on him. "Who made that rule up?" he questioned, unimpressed by your words. He refrained from calling you something that might’ve gotten him a smack to the face.
"Rising is harder than descending." you explained, crossing your arms over your chest. You gave him an expression that mirrored his. "Plus, the inner lane is shorter than the outer lane. It's— Well, it's the law of gravity."
You spoke with such conviction he feared he'd been wrong about everything in his life. Besides, he didn't know a thing about gravity other than that it kept him from flying into space.
"Alright, fine, but why would you run with a steaming cup of coffee in your hands?" Jean asked in retaliation. He may have lacked in the science department, but he knew his common sense quite well. "It's like you want to spill it all over people."
Your mouth opened and shut quickly. He raised a brow, awaiting for your comeback that never came. Instead, you did the weirdest thing.
You laughed at him, eyes crinkling slightly at him. It was then that he realized maybe he wasn't so mad at you after all, Spilt coffee never hurt anybody, right? He would live to see the next day, so was there really any harm?
"Okay, you're right." you admitted, almost bashfully. Your eyes traveled down to the brown stain of coffee on his dress shirt. "I shouldn't run around with hot drinks anymore, but you shouldn't walk along the inner lane when you're leaving the building."
"Alright, deal. No more walking in the corners."
You nodded, lips pursed. "No more running with coffee."
It wasn't long after that he finally mustered up the courage to ask you out to dinner. He isn't gonna lie and say it was all sunshine and rainbows because it wasn't.
You were always running, always on the go. Were you running out of time? You had nowhere to be, yet you feared the thought of being late. Had you ever stopped and smelled the roses?
It was pretty hard at times. Getting accustomed to your way of things was hard. You were a mess before you met him. At least that's what you always say. Jean doesn't think so.
Maybe you were, in a sense. That was fine, too. It didn't bother him. Messes were made to be cleaned up after all, and he didn't mind leading the clean-up crew if you let him.
Things started sailing smoother as time flew. It was nice. Being with you was nice. You stopped spilling coffee on people. He stopped walking along the inner corners of hallways.
You never seemed to stop running, though. That was a constant in your lives. That was okay, too. Jean had to learn how to keep up with your never-ending speed, but you always let him set the pace. Maybe that's his favorite thing about you.
He taught you that being at rest isn't always a bad thing. You don't have to rush to get things done. Sometimes it's okay to just stop and be grateful for what's now and not what can be.
You taught him a fair share, too. You explained to him that the law of gravity isn’t actually about rising and descending. That had just been a lie to get you out of a bad situation. There was such thing as a law of gravity discovered by Isaac Newton.
Maybe Jean should've payed attention in science class when they talked about Newton because perhaps he would've understood what you were saying that first day.
All he knew was Newton's Laws of Motion, mainly the first: an object stays at rest or in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
He figured it was something like you.
As fast as you walked, you never seemed to stop. Not until you sent him to the ground on his ass with a coffee stain on his shirt. Maybe he was the unbalanced force that acted on you. He wasn't completely sure.
After all, Jean had never been good at science.

QUEST!

Greek Mythology x Haikyuu
Haikyuu!Ensemble x Reader
OVERVIEW. You were just a perfectly normal student at The University of Tokyo, when suddenly a bunch of 'normal boys', as they call themselves, appeared in your life and started to squeeze themselves into your life. Always saying something like "You're a goddess, we need to take you back to Olympus" (you brushed it off, saying that it was just a silly compliment) and even absurd sentences such as "You got Medusa's eyes" and "You're really Medusa's daughter!"

Tense.
That's one word to describe the atmosphere in the pantheon right now. Usually, the after ceremony gathering of the Twelve Olympians plus Hades, everyone would be drinking, having fun, and feasting their eyes on humans just for pure enjoyment. Even Hera doesn't know what to say, normally the one talking too much was her, often bragging about her dearest son, Kuroo Tetsuro.
Unlike others, Hermes is rather enjoying himself, sipping his wine every now and then. This day is truly a blessing. Ever since the Medusa incident, Zeus prevented all his might to keep Olympus on track. He had his sons take care of each problem before it aggravates.
Subsequently, Athena grew tired of the silence. Opting to break it, she was about to say what's been bugging her mind, but paused after locking eyes with the mischievous god. "You fancy these situations, don't you?" Athena is annoyed, no doubt.
Like the bastard he is, Hermes only snickered. "Perhaps."
"Hermes, you did something." Athena hypothesized, the wise goddess is somewhat sure of her assumption. Hermes is the most cunning of them all, the amount of times he tried to bring trouble was uncountable. But he was never held liable, taking in the fact that he did a lot of sacrifices for Mount Olympus. He's responsible for a lot of things too, in comparison of the added vigorous deities, he still remains as the best choice.
"Oh," Hermes acted dumbfounded, behaving as if he didn't know Athena will catch on sooner or later. "Did I?" He teased her. Athena isn't easy to annoy. She would rather ignore all the insignificant etiquettes of others than wasting her time expressing wrath. It's useless for pea-brains.
But with the recent events damaging her calm mind, Athena was easily irked, just as Hermes desired. Thinking of punching Hermes just to get over with it, Athena put on a smile. My punch won't hurt that much. She thought.
"Aletheia and her daughter are here." Ares announced while Athena was readying her fist, making the goddess halt and look at the two deities entering the pantheon.
Quivering in fear, Yachi held her dear mother's hand tightly. This meeting could change their lives after all. Bitterly regretting her actions earlier, Yachi reflected on her previous actions. She should've stayed quiet. If only Hermes didn't interfere, she wouldn't have said anything. Now everything is going downhill, because of a possibly wrong vision.
She just got her powers. Something could go wrong with it, right? But that never happened before. Well, Asami's case with Medusa was a first too. How would one be blinded that a mere immortal is living with them? Especially Zeus! It just doesn't make any sense. She's doomed, that's for sure.
Oh, just stop, stop, stop! Everything was too confusing. Yachi's truly conflicted, she just want pull through and move onto another day.
The two goddesses of truth bowed their heads down, showing their respect for the upper gods. “Good thing you made it promptly after we sent off Sakusa.” Zeus said with a smile. Sakusa Kiyoomi, son of Hygieia, currently under the supervision of Artemis. He was instructed to call Aletheia, after all, he originally planned on visiting to Earth after the ceremony. Artemis reasoned that, hence he can’t refuse.
"Shouldn't we call in Asami?" Demeter asked, feeling anxious. No one really knows what will happen. Demeter was only enjoying Asami's companion yesterday, now things are like this. If this doesn't go well, she'll lose another daughter. Oh, how will she just react to that?
"Before we do," Aphrodite finally spoke, standing up from her seat. "I just want to remind you all that we should set our feelings aside. Whatever the conclusion of this discussion may be, think before you act." She reminded.
This wasn't the first time a mortal was blessed by immortality, but requiring the discussion of the important gods of Olympus surely was. Meetings were typicaly in the hands of their trusted sons and daughters, however; this was too major to be dealt by them.
"Bring her in." Zeus ordered.
Three words made the room tenser. Every deity noticed how Poseidon stiffened, his agitation worsens minute by minute. It didn't help when Asami entered the pantheon, looking frightened. Poseidon locked eyes with her, his heart burning in discomfort. He never saw her like this before.
"Well?" Hera asked, raising her right eyebrow. These kind of situations bores the hell out of her. What Hera likes the most is being straight to the point. Just decide if you'll keep her or throw her out, that easy.
Yachi and Asami stared at each other. Yachi’s face was full of regret, asking for forgiveness. Asami only smiled, hoping that it will deliver her message. That it wasn’t Yachi’s fault, she would never blame her.
Aletheia stared into Asami’s soul, widening her eyes after a span of seconds. Yachi looked at her mother’s reaction, instantly panicking. “What my daughter saw is true.”
Quiet. Too quiet.
“Asami is not one of us.” Aletheia dropped the bomb. Yet no one spoke. Everything was back to square one. In spite of the fact that they prepared themselves for the truth, it was traumatizing.
Poseidon wants to protest, but if Aletheia already confirmed it, there was no way it’ll make a difference. Hades was on the verge of asking their opinions, if not accidentally making eye contact with an unoccupied space. He’s got a feeling that someone sneaked in and is currently listening to their discussion, someone being Suna Rintarou.
As he was walking towards it, his intuition suddenly disappeared. That only means one thing, Suna knew he saw him and left straight away. Hades shook his head, someone will be in trouble. Back to the real issue, “Now, what?” Hades broke the silence.
“Well..” Apollo is utterly dumbfounded. It feels surreal, is that even possible for a god? He can’t believe it. He wants to deny it even though it’s no use. “We can just make her one of us, right?”
“I don’t think we should.” Athena argued, eyes travelled to her before you know it. She is always determined, standing by her first decision no matter what happens. “We should presume that the real daughter is there, with Asami’s real parents. Switching them would be a better plan.” After what she said, almost every deity in the room swerved their opinions. Athena is the wisest, her words are always right.
“I stand by Athena.” Ares backed her up. Their opinions about this matter were alike, that’s surprising itself. They never get along; having opposite opinions is common for them. It’s truly shocking that they won’t debate over this.
“We should first check if the real one is alive and well. Before dealing with Asami. For now, I’ll reside her in my place.” Hestia said.
“No. Lock her up in the underworld.” Hera contradicted, studying Asami’s response to all of this. But all she can see in her face is blankness. Huh, Hera pondered, Affecting her already? “Hades would look after her better.”
Hestia frowned, offended by what Hera said. Just as she was about to retort, Zeus spoke up. “That’d be better. Does anyone disagree?” Zeus was emotionless. His voice is laced with seriousness, but it looks like he doesn’t really prefer that choice.
No one spoke up. Seems like they’re still processing what the hell just happened. “I’ve got no complaints.” Hephaestus spoke for the very first time, just wanting to go home. He isn’t really close with Asami, so he doesn’t care, at all. Being in the same room with the other upper gods makes him want to vomit.
“Then that’s it.” Zeus replied straightaway, evidently scared that he’ll lament his decision and change it abruptly. “May every Olympian send their desired deity in hopes of finding the real deity in Earth? Until they bring her back, they can’t come back to Olympus. So, I advise you to think wisely.”
Everyone was taken aback. Today is just full of surprises.

“Everything will be fine.”
Lies. All lies, everything was obviously not fine. His closest friend, the one who's always there for him, is not fine. Regrets piled up in Yamaguchi's heart. Reminiscing to what happened back there, he regrets not doing anything. Those eyes, those eyes crying for help. He should've ran to her, he should've hugged her and tell her everything will be okay even though it won't. Because it was always like that. They’re always like that.
Everything will not be fine!
It's been hours since the big commotion, hours since the supposedly ‘meeting’ of the upper gods regarding the issue, Yamaguchi never heard any news since then. It was new, since every time there’s a meeting, words will circulate fast.
Hearing Hera's last words were only making him more anxious. Human world? The real daughter? That can't be it. He sincerely hopes that Yachi was mistaken. That this was all a big joke. The consequence will not be that bad compared to what can possibly happen to Asami.
Yamaguchi groaned in frustration. "Don't think too much." Hanamaki said, feeling guilty watching his fellow Aeolian suffer from his thoughts.
"Asami made a big impact to everyone, Yamaguchi. I don't think Zeus will throw her out that easy." Mattsun added. Seeing how Asami's close not only to a lot of superior gods, but also to Zeus' heart, he can easily turn her into an immortal like them, and then proceed like nothing happened. He did it a lot, so it won’t make sense if he won’t do it to Asami.
"Don't know. If all of them agree, then that will happen. Just like Shirabu’s?" Hanamaki said, making sure to choose his words carefully. He doesn't want to hurt Yamaguchi, but he doesn't want him to hope either. In a matter of fact, it's 50/50 right now. No one is sure what the outcome of their decision will be. Seeing it's been hours yet there still no rumors, it's better to expect for the worse.
With the two discussing what the outcome may be, Yamaguchi stayed silent. His mind was still replaying what happened in the courtyard, only snapping out when he heard a voice calling out to him. He frowned and looked around, not familiar with the voice at all. Down! Frustration was evident in whoever voice that is.
Yamaguchi looked down, only to see Oikawa Tooru, the mighty son of Athena, waving a hand to him like a fool. Oikawa gestured a wind after seeing Yamaguchi’s furrowed eyebrows.
Confusion immediately disappeared from Yamaguchi's face after understanding what he meant. Using the ability he received earlier, he made a wind current, and brought Oikawa up to the floating palace, Anemoi.
After a couple of seconds, Oikawa arrived, laughing at the enjoyable ride. It truly feels like flying, it might even be better! Matsukawa and Hanamaki looked at him disgustingly, not getting his questionable humor at all. "I have news." Oikawa said, switching to a serious demeanor. "It's about Asami."
The three stiffened. They were just talking about it earlier, obviously not prepared by whatever Oikawa might say. "Where did you get that news?" Yamaguchi asked. Oh how he hoped it's good news, or else he wouldn't know how to react at all.
“Well, I heard it from Kuroo who heard it from Bokuto who heard it from Atsumu who heard it from Suna.” Oikawa sat down the sturdy tree, glancing at the three’s confused faces. "You know Suna? Son of Hades." He asked, his companions nodding at him. “Heard it from him.”
“You could’ve just said that in the first place!” Hanamaki complained.
“Shut up Makki, I’m talking!” Oikawa yelled. "Well, he used his ability to sneak in the meeting. And gathered a bit of what they've discussed. He left after he accidentally locked eyes with his father, so it's not much." He chuckled, only imagining the wrath of Hades in his mind.
"Just get to the point, Oikawa. What do you know?" Mattsun asked, irritated by how chatty Oikawa is. He always get sidetracked, always adding useless information to whatever story he's saying. "The point, okay? The point." Repeating it since he know Oikawa doesn’t know how to listen.
"My Zeus, Mattsun!” Making a dramatic gesture, “I'm deeply hurt. I, the great god of wisdom and creativity, immediately went here after gathering information. Appreciate me first!" Complained Oikawa. Hanamaki can already tell he's lying, knowing his first go-to person is Iwaizumi.
“Oh, great god Oikawa Tooru, thank you very much for blessing us with your presence!” Hanamaki sarcastically praised. Yet Oikawa still loved it anyway. “Now just say it, Oikawa.”
Oikawa’s playful expression was immediately replaced with firmness. “It’s true.” He paused, wanting to be cautious. “What Yachi said.”
A sigh from Matsukawa,
Hanamaki’s startled facial expression,
And Yamaguchi’s lifeless eyes.
Every reaction they gave can tell how sadden they are with the news. “And.. Mother told me that,” Oikawa continued, staring at the cloud, unable to look at their faces. “The Olympians will send out deities to find the real daughter.”

“Well, that was unexpected.” Sakusa Kiyoomi whispered to himself while wandering at the park. “A mortal, huh.”
Silently enjoying his free time away from the deities, Sakusa took time in strolling away. He has plenty of time to waste before proceeding to do his duties, the reason why he came down in the first place.
However, he was absolutely not expecting to bump into someone. His eyebrows instantly met, he was already walking slowly. How can a person be so dumb to bump into him?
“Oh, sorry.”
Oh, sorry? His frown only worsens when they sprinted away after saying their apologies to him. Sakusa gazed at the person before him, the aura is different compared to other humans he interacted with.
It feels like..
Like he’s encountering a..
His eyes widen in realization, still staring at the person who’s almost out of his sight now.
A deity.
