If there is one tag I wish existed in the buddie fandom it would be "Everyone is a Firefighter but Buck". Just so it would be easier to filter it out. I swear like 80-90% of AU's (canon divergent ones, especially things like "different first meeting" or "[character] is a [other job title]") writes Buck right out of his firefighting family, and I just wish I had a way to know that before getting invested. Particularly ones where Buck isn't the only one not a firefighter at the beginning, but he is still the only one that doesn't get to be a firefighter in the end.

It feels especially tragic if his absence is written as having little to no effect on the firefam dynamic, or that not having the firefam has little to no effect on him and his life. The 118 means so much to him!! He would not be the character he is if not for them! And he also meant so much for making the firefam a family in the first place!

(Even in canon Buck's own subconscious thinks he's integral to the family to the point where nothing would be the same without him, and that's really saying something.)

#just had to get that off my chest #i would love to read more buddie AU's especially seeing them in different career #but for some reason people only have buck have a different career #the others are almost always firefighters #why only buck? have we not had an entire arc explofing what would happen if he lost his found family?#have we not had an entire episode emexplaining how he's tried so many many amother careers that he didn't feel at home in?#have we not had an entire episode exploring what might have happened with the 118 without buck being there?#just... it just feels a little like people don't seem to think he matters to the 118 all that much #and also that the 118 doesn't matter to him #that he could find any old group of colelagues and they'd mean the same to him as bobby hen and chim #the bobby buck father son relationship feels especially underappreciated in those AUs #and just to tag for those who filter it out from their dash #buddie #911
