seeing a post about the undertale orchestra concert and trying my best not to be a complete pedant about the orchestration and the difficulty of the piece in question. like sure it's not the easiest but it isn't particularly difficult and not the hardest there. also some of the orchestration kinda sucked but that's a wider problem with orchestrating video game music and the undertale concert generally did a good job given everything.

#Autumn's Thoughts #anyways the specific piece was spider dance which is moderately difficult but like it didn't sound crazy #and the orchestration was often variable with how much color it had #having a drum kit in the orchestra always feels tacky to me and like you can just get more percussionist to play the proper instruments #anyways I recall the omorı anniversary concert being extremely variable too #like some really good stuff there but some absolutely terrible orchestration in other places #certainly a few in the undertale concert that would have been very difficult to both perform and orchestrate #another medium would be almost impossible to arrange well and they went for the option of having a synth do it #and a few pieces where the melody wouldn't have been very idiomatic and thus difficult there #that being said I have also heard the bbc symphony do some absolutely nasty orchestrations of pop songs #sometimes it just comes down to getting someone who knows how to handle orchestral textures well I guess
