reading your relevance in korea reading, as someone who lives in korea... the general public absolutely loves jennie and she's mentioned in korean dramas and shows every single week, there isn't a single 3rd generation idol who's as loved as her here. yeah some people were upset about the dance but it wasn't much? artists here do similar stuff all the time, Korea isn't as conservative as yall think. the slutshaming yall see in forums doesn't reflect what korea think of her because these websites are filled with jobless boygroup stans that no one here takes seriously
i’m actually relieved it’s not like that bc i was really worried, but honestly, i am really thinking why they thought in that way back then, like days ago or so? do you think i saw repressed thoughts rather than what seems to be the “overall reality”? i don’t think korea is “conservative” as you said bc everyone is more or less with their interesting or odd point of view but 10 of swords literally flipped (i usually put it in its reverse position in my desks), how i would transcribe it otherwise? if it was reversed, okay, but it wasn’t and i’m thinking what does it mean now
i don’t deny her relevance, i don’t deny that she’s talked a lot, i don’t deny her impact, but why i saw 10 of swords.. the bottom card wasn’t even on the other side, it sort of blended, you know?
+ i don’t think the artists in your country do similar things all the time as we see your country’s industry differently than the usa’s pop culture for example. hell i am from balkan (peninsula) country who pop-folk is the most popular genre and i do know how the bulgarian industry works. whatever jennie did from foreign point of view can be interpreted as very shocking, very suprising but we (the europeans/usa citizens dqk about the rest) overall aren’t suprised because we’re already adapted of our home country’s music industry and the nudity issues that i personally disagree with but that’s my opinion. your country’s industry is a breath of fresh air to us. except hwasa where she’s doing some things that can be “controversial” (in brakes because idk if it actually is a one to south korea) i don’t really know who tf in the k-pop industry is breaking the rules like them in similar ways (i personally separate k-hiphop, k-indie and so on) and it really shows bc of the way how they’re talked. except in blogs and eventually on x idfk from where to look from koreans’ opinions because i’m obviously uneducated and even though we foreigners rely mainly on english k-pop sites + pannchoa (i use notpannchoa2 on telegram/x tho) there aren’t simply just enough sources to us so in this case “phew” for my alleged inaccurate opinions
however i don’t think your country’s citizens weren’t upset about the dance. i wasn’t even thinking about it. i thought first about her role when i saw the card - personally i liked how she did it really well from what i saw but the idol shouldn’t be her acting debut but i’ve expressed my opinion many times so i won’t repeat myself this time; my second thought was about the idol’s plot and how “erotic” it was and i think the plot was the bigger issue rather than her provocative dance, i even forgot she danced in one of the episodes.
i’ve never thought about the blogs in your country being true at 100% but that’s like the main source we have (i personally know only pann) for the koreans’ opinions that are translated and we roughly know what do koreans might think, so i don’t really know
overall 10 of swords might actually be repressed thoughts, i am aware of jennie’s positive opinions at some blogs’ posts

Someone posted that Jungkook was staring at a Female MCs chest, Netizens reject it & show proof he didn’t do it.
An ARMY posted a gif of Jungkook seemingly looking at an MC’s chest during their interview portion at MAMA 2016 Red Carpet.
The issue blew up and Jungkook started getting hate for it, fans however, have come to his defense; they show proof that Jungkook was not looking at her chest, but at a teleprompter.
Netizen comments:
"Why is he raping her with his gaze" "Look at the angle ㅋㅋㅋ F*ck his eyes? Anyone can see that he's starring at her chest. He's f*cking obviously, so disgusting;;;;"
"The fans also saw the video, what's even more obvious is that they're trying to shield him saying he's pretending to look down. You said that he glanced so it can't be helped?"
Netizen comments
-Aren't you the one creating the fuss over this?
-The fans saw the video, what's even more obvious is that they're trying to shield him saying he's pretending to look down. You're saying that he glanced so it can't be helped?
-Why is he raping her with his gaze
-So your chest grows on the ground? Daebak
-It's a fact that he's looking somewhere else if you watched the video, goosebumps that you took such a small instant just so you can create something, you want to diss him that bad?
-Don't feed the troll -To be honest, the kids who decided to not say anything about this is because we obviously knew that this was a troll..
-Aren't you the only one creating the fuss?
-He knows that the camera is on his face, you think he will still stare at her chest? It's not like Bangtan has only debuted for 1-2 years

JJ Project - Tomorrow, Today “A song you can relate to if you’re wandering in your youth.” This statement was taken from a comment section in a post from pannchoa about JJ Project’s latest comeback song, Tomorrow, Today. The song 내일,오늘 (Tomorrow, Today) released last 31st of July (Monday) is a mellow, pop rock alternative type of song which is very laid-back or what people may describe as “feel-good” song. The music video which showcases the simplicity and beauty of Hokkaido, Japan (where the MV was shot) also adds an aesthetic appeal to the overall turnout of the song. Watching the video for the first time, I was already moved to tears not only because of the beauty of the video or the feels of seeing JJP comeback after 5 years, but mainly because of the meaning of the song. The message of the song is what everyone can relate to. As a lot of ahgases would say, it is a song which speaks to them in a deeper level. This is what I have felt while listening to the song. Delving into the common troubles of the youth, it is not just about being lost. The song ponders about our choices, figuring out life, and finding what we really want. It gives us a glimpse of what is really happening in our world and what humans are facing. Living in a world where everything is fast-paced, we are forced to choose, and in the process, a lot of time, we fail to consider some things, and forget the main reason why we are making those choices. We choose for the sake of choosing. Here are some lines/verses in the song which really caught my eye and got me reflecting about a lot of things in my life: “My visions and dreams are fading away You keep pushing me while my eyes are half-covered. Telling me to pick which one to go with, Somebody let me know, Tell me which way to go, Cuz I don’t, don’t, don’t know Today I hesitantly answer the questions again, That I don’t even know the answer to Is it this way or that way My decisions are getting scary With an unstable state of mind, I’m confronting the next decision What will I be at the end of the road? Will I regret looking back later?” As kids, we have those hopes and dreams we keep close to our heart, vowing to make them all come true when we become adults, but growing up, we realize, some of these dreams may be impossible to reach. We wake up to the how the reality of the world we live on works. How harsh the society we live in is. Our dreams either get crushed or forgotten. Forgotten because we often sacrifice to follow our dreams for practicality and comfort in life. You want to be a painter? A writer? Society says no because according to its standards, you’re not gonna be successful. It’s not a high paying job. Why not try to be a doctor or a lawyer instead? Oftentimes, we encounter these kinds of situation where our dreams are sacrificed and forgotten. Today’s society is all about having your life figured out, and sometimes, this starts even at such a young age. Having your own identity. And because of this, we have to comply, even though we are still struggling to find our purpose. We lost our identity because society keeps directing us to do this, do that. We become lost. Confused. We’re like those fallen leaves getting drifted by the wind. We go where the wind goes. We go with the flow, join the bandwagon. We lost ourselves because we become too overwhelmed with everything. In our lives, we always come at crossroads. This isn’t just a phase being experienced by the youth. No matter how old you are, 20s, 30s, or even in your later adult life, there are times when you just don’t know what to do. We become clueless. We don’t know what to do with our lives anymore. We know what we want but we don’t know if can achieve them. We have to quickly decide which path to take, what career to take, because if you take too much of your time, you get judged. And at these moments, we just say “f*ck it, I’m doing this,” even if we aren’t sure if will impact our future in a good or a bad way. We have to choose without thinking. We become reckless with our decisions. We have these thoughts plaguing our minds, if I choose this decision, will I regret this later on? There is uncertainty lingering inside us. And it stays inside us, growing slowly and slowly until it occupies most of our thoughts and affects our feelings. We become suffocated. We feel anxious about ourselves. In this world where everyone aims for perfection, we are expected that the decisions we make are also perfect. We become so blindsided by "the perfect life" that we forget what we really want. Tomorrow, Today is a song which ponders on the reality of life and how the society operates. It is a song that speaks to everyone’s inner struggle. A song that makes you reflect your life. It makes you ask yourself, “Is this really what I want?” “Have I been living well?” and I commend JJ Project (and JYP) for penning and producing a song which speaks so much about life and the everyday struggles people go through. -Antonette Gail ♡

It's more like... the type of guys that have time and attention to know about a fansign, and have the time or sometimes lack of financial responsibility to get into one (in a society that demands men become 60~70 hr/week office slaves) sometimes aren't the "best" guys. twitter.com/notpannchoa/st…Knets look at female idols' fansigns pic.twitter.com/H5Zc3efIaWNot Pannchoa@notpannchoa

Netizens Say Seventeen Called Their Fans their “Money Maker”, Seventeen Under Heavy Fire + Clarification
Seventeen are accused of calling their fans “Money Makers”, here’s the post from Naver:
[enter-talk] IDOLS WHO ARE CREATING A FUSS OVER CALLING THEIR FAN A "MONEY MAKER" (t/n: MISTRANSLATION ALERT "밥줄" doesn't have an equivalent in English, it can be read as "my earnings" "my money" "how to earn a living" "how to feed myself" "how my job keeps me alive" "bread and butter" etc. the connotation isn't negative nor positive)
Fan: "What am I to you?" Seungkwan: my money maker <3 "What song do you often listen to?" Next "What person am I to you?" fan! "What am I to you?" Lol a fan "What do you like about me? eyes, nose, lips, everything" ....I don't know
In the past, they have thrown away fan letters off the streets too
He wrote the same thing another time too "What am I to Seungkwan?" "Money maker~<3 <3 <3" post response:[+748][-307]original post: here -"Money maker" Is he out of his mind? He probably thought he was funny and that his answer had a lot of sense -More than calling them "money makers" that Woozi fan had it even worse with the "Next". The fans are spending money for them, they should at least pay lip service for that...The innocent fan is just asking a question, is it that hard to answer? -I saw that on Twitter, why are Seventeen fans shielding them. They're saying that the fan coerced him in writing "money maker"ㅋㅋLooking at the post-its the fan must've attended several of their fan meetings, and she even said that she will reveal a voice recording of the event, Seventeen pretends to be a group without controversies, the fans are freaking pitiful -Don't feed the rumors. Pledis just released a feedback
Now The truth has come out, and Fans made a post about it, here’s the truth:
[enter-talk] SEVENTEEN CALLING FANS THEIR "MONEY MAKER", THE TRUTH Here's the problematic post-it
However, the handwriting here is completely different from other handwriting of Seungkwan
How he usually writes "ㅂ"
The post-it's "ㅂ"
To me those 2 handwriting are completely different?
Usually Pledis are really slow in giving their feedback, but this time, this controversy was such nonesense that they gave a feedback right away
t/n: basically saying that Seventeen really care for their fans, and they will look into rumors circulating more seriously from now on because it was unfounded In the end, 1. A post-it from a fansign event was posted with "my money maker" on it 2. but the handwriting is completely different from Seungkwan's 3. There was no evidence of a "recording" that he wrote it so the post-it person quieted down 4. Usually Pledis gives no feedback, but gave one right away 5. Therefore the post-it was fabricated post response:[+271][-26]original post: here
-Even fans who have left the fandoms and their fansite managers are shielding them. Isn't this a proof that this was all fabricated? Even as another group's fan it's so obviously fake.. -I know that Seventeen aren't kids who would do stuff like that, so don't worry about these stuff and just do your work -Seriously just seeing how all their fansites are defending them you can tell that it was fake -I'm another group's fan but Seventeen always looked friendly to me. Seriously those kids would never have the personalities to do something like that. -As expected, I knew it was fake, f*cking disgusting;;;;

I don’t know if I’ll ever post about it on my side bc it takes a while for me to eloquently put thoughts into words especially for a nuanced subject as this (so my rough thoughts on it under the cut just in case it gets long and ramble-y)
I do think it’s a shame that the creator behind the series has very malicious intent making it and knowing this now it’s best not to support it. I haven’t watched nor heard about it (despite the anime adaptation’s popularity) bec said genre is not my cup of tea
I can only talk about wz, since I follow him a lot more closely than the other three but based on what I’ve seen and came to a conclusion with, I don’t think he should be crucified for mentioning it. We can speculate whether or not he finished it but basing my thoughts on the available evidence (weverse live) and translations bc I think the use of words are important to this I don’t really see it as anything other than him stating that he watched a popular anime available on streaming
I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes you just watch a series casually without delving deeper into it like looking into the author’s psyche. Assuming that what he watched was a heavily censored version too and the opinions I heard of season 1, I think personally maybe it was just entertainment in a sense that it’s a show to pass the time.
Also I think the anime adaptation has to be censored and reworked for it to pass broadcast standards.
tbh I don’t think we’ll personally know what he thinks of it unless he brings it up again or gives a review but atm he hasn’t spoken about it in depth outside of that mere mention of an anime he started but didn’t finish/continue due to schedule and for me I don’t think it’s a huge crime. I would be more doubtful if he spoken about it more but also as someone who also consumes media that dabbles into darker content (i.e. silent hill, fear and hunger) sometimes you just find certain aspects like the lore or characterization intriguing but it doesn’t mean it reflects your morals irl. Like tbh the closest I can relate this to is Funger bc of how controversial that game is with the themes but I enjoy the story (and the game mechanics); unravelling the mystery of the environment and stories/motives behind the characters but does that mean I support the horrors being done to them irl? No.
Ngl I feel like I’m getting a bit more ramble-y and the thoughts aren’t as connected bc my opinion can change depending on what new info comes out (though I doubt the idols involved would say smth new). I just think it’s a complex subject blown up bc of a few words on pannchoa and with how sensitive the themes associated with the anime (and the creator being a weirdo) it’s bound to get an explosive reaction 😭 I just hope that a little more thought and discussion can be made bc of this controversy and not an immediate “you must be a bad person bc you watched xyz” kind of deal
Those media literacy classes preparing me for the lack of braincells I’ve read in the past 10 something hours
#just in case: I don’t like how children are depicted in that series#and that these are my personal opinions from existing information#but I kinda wanted to talk about bc dark themes and media consumption is an interesting subjective topic for me#it’s been awhile too but I wrote a paper re: my stance on consuming dark themes in media so… idk#I find it an interesting topic to discuss bc I do find fiction a safe space to explore themes#but also I think it’s just how we consume media/ what aspects we enjoy or disagree with/ what lines do we draw and how we define it#bc for me too I think we all view it differently#you do you bc you’re not obligated to stay if boundaries have been crossed#I really think this opens to other conversations as well#like the idol image and the cynicism of kpop#fiction vs reality and media censorship comes into play too#really interesting and intrigiuing topics#I have additional thoughts but idk where to put it in this long essay like post 😭#anyways that’s most of I want to say re: anime recommendations
