oh no i dont think ur being dismissive at all!! like i personally really enjoy hotch and morgan as characters despite the flaws you mentioned and i do think its cool to take the cm characters into your own hands and try to enjoy the show as much as possible despite shitty ideas (literally any ep dealing with racism is hfhhdj). tbh with ensemble kinda-problematic shows like this its rlly easy to seize on one chars flaws and ignore the ways related ones pop up in others bc youve gotta (1)

yeah i always think it’s important to call out stuff like this in media. but if you spend your whole time doing that for every problematic show, you’ll get bogged down and not have anything left to watch. but it’s a double edged sword bc sometimes you wanna just sit back and enjoy things when all of a sudden something’s said or something happens that hurts you in a really personal way.

for me it’s a little easier to do with criminal minds bc i can just skip the episodes that handle certain topics distastefully (i say that as i’m about to watch brothers in arms.. i never fucking watch it lmao so i cant wait to see how awful it is). everyone has their own threshold for stuff like that tho and no one should feel ashamed bc they aren’t comfortable watching something. like if ur gonna get microaggressed every ten minutes it’s not exactly an enjoyable experience lmao

so don’t feel like you have to change the way you feel just bc a character/show is popular. fandom spaces tend to have a way of glossing over ~uncomfortable~ topics (or just labeling it as “discourse” and moving on which is just akjdhdksf). it’s a similar reason that i don’t seek out fics in this fandom—i just don’t want to see that kind of stuff, it’s not worth it to me. i say this as a mega emily fan akjshdflg but you’re not obligated to suppress everything that makes you uncomfortable about her just bc other people like her.

if you do wanna cut her some slack and give her another shot, i say watch some fun episodes with her! skip the ones you know will have stuff that'll bother you (if u dont know hmu and i’ll tell u the ones to avoid) and see if there are any qualities you do like ab her. i like the way that everyone feels comfortable going to her with their problems bc they knows she won’t betray confidence. it’s cute the way that her bluntness can get her into trouble sometimes and she seems aware of when she crosses a line. i think her background is soo interesting and it’s just fascinating to watch the early seasons bearing in mind the secrets she’s keeping. also she looks great in red 😳😳😳
