sorry to my star wars/marvel followers but i just need to talk about A Quiet Place: Day One for a minute because i feel like it’s one of the first mainstream “end of the world” movies that taps into the potential storylines of people with chronic illness/pain. like one of my first thoughts anytime i watch a movie where infrastructure collapses and transportation goes out i run through a mental list of pharmacies in my area and think about which ones i could reach on foot within a day. or how obstacles that just inconvenience other travelers could fully stop me from getting my prescription. i worry about how different pharmacies are organized and if they’d have enough of my specific medication to get me through however long it takes for the world to come back, if it ever does. Lupita acted that feeling so well, and her outlook on the apocalypse was so different than any other character i’d seen because Sam already knew she was dying, and she was going to die whether or not the creatures came. so she’s not worried about getting to safety or trying to rebuild a life, because she’s been preparing to leave life behind for years now. she just wants to be in her home neighborhood in places with good memories and good food, and go out on her own terms instead of waiting for the disease to catch up to her. she couldn’t just do that before the arrival, though, but she can once what was left of her life collapses and she knows everything she loves (Frodo, memories of her father, her poetry) is safe with someone she trusts. it’s such a reverse plot to the usual apocalypse where everyone’s fighting for long-term survival and trying to rebuild what they lost, while Sam takes her losses in stride and slowly relinquishes her important belongings to Eric so she can die in peace. god it’s just such a genius reversal of the usual fight-for-your-life storyline with huge untapped potential that i hope inspires other movies to explore similar plots because there’s so many directions a writer could take with a chronically ill character in an apocalyptic situation, and i would love to see a horror/scifi subgenre of people with chronic illness in survival situations. okay that’s all.

I saw your tags on the Lupita photoshoot with her cat Yoyo and just wanted you to know: Lupita is a new cat lady!

Before A Quiet Place she was very scared of cats, so much so, that she asked the director if it could be another animal but they couldn't do that.

Apparently, she must have fallen in love. Just a fun fact, I know you don't know me but it was something I thought you might like to know. 😁

Awwww! That's so sweet. We love a cat convert! The cats she got to work with on that film were pretty awesome, so it's easy to see how she overcame her fear.

I'm curious, do you have any fancasts for characters that haven't yet appeared on the screen? Nicki, Gabrielle, Marius, Akasha, Santiago, Magnus etc?

Ohhh, I have... ideas, yes. (Now, almost all of these are probably too high hollywood-level for the AMC production (simply cost-wise!), but...

For Gabrielle I'd like Charlize Theron. Right age, has the range, and the looks. A girl can wish :)) (And she has been doing a lot of cameos in stuff she likes, so... who knows?^^)

Nicki:

Ben Barnes. Maybe. Definitely like the idea of that cast :)) He has the brooding aspect down, too. And the looks.

Marius:

Oh, difficult one. We love to hate the guy, right, so that needs to reflect^^. I think Matthew McConaughey could do a real fine job with this (though I love the actor).

Akasha:

I am torn whether I want her to be a black woman (I LOVED Aaliyah in the role!), or more closely to what she would be from the books, like more Iranian. If we're going for a black actress I'd love Lupita Nyong'o, who also definitely has the looks and the range. (US was so beyond incredible!)

Santiago:

Weirdly enough I came up with Michael Fassbender here. I know, I know, both coloring and looks contradict this at first, but... it's about the jaw and the (possible) arrogance here, for me. The vibe. Given what he is responsible for. (Would totally appreciate ideas for POC actor ideas here with the vibe!!)

Magnus:

You know who I could imagine soooo well in this? Jeremy Irons. The range, the intensity, the age, the looks. It would just fit. Paired with Sam the intensity of the... turning would likely be unbearable.

David:

Ah, such a shame that Rutger Hauer has died, given Anne's love for him he would have been such a treat as "old" David?!

As young David... you know there was this one butler in Dubai, that was shown with an extra shot and... I looked him up, and he would fit VERY well with my head canon, and... I mean... this show, right. It's in the details.

So there my fancast aligns with a probable(?) cast of him. Annop Surya.

I was never the biggest fan of quiet place from a narrative standpoint like I like the way it was filmed but story wise it fell flat for me however lupita n'yongo back on my screen for a horror film ?? I will be seated
