Then and now: Ieeha

I don't know how this meme is supposed to go but I was tagged by @lynxden so I'll just briefly go through Ieeha from start to finish <3

Starting with 2014:

I bought this game as a birthday present for myself, I had NO idea what it was about and had never played any MMO before, but I was well into FF as a franchise and my friend who was too told me "Imagine FF... but with your own character...", and that was all I needed to jump in LOL.

It's funny looking back because the character I originally made had a different name, and I made him because I wanted a basic and bland, short gridanian lancer. The most unremarkable dude you could possibly imagine...

And then I unlocked dragoon. Which is decidedly NOT unremarkable and bland. Which led me to explore other jobs in just a few months, leading me to leveling White Mage and then Scholar, which remain my go-to, most played jobs to this very day.

"But how did that become Ieeha later" you may ask... well, it was a gradual process of going from his original character aesthetic to one that begins to resemble the Ieeha I know now.

Frankly what held me back a lot in the design department was the gender lock on gear, which lead me to frequently fantasia him to various female race variants of himself´:

(I'm also including these because there was no Gpose. The sheer effort I put in constantly to time weather, time of day for lighting, cooldown for skills etc....... lets get you to bed grandpa etc)

2024:

I revamped him (lore, name, background etc) in 2021, and then with Dawntrail his old face didn't resemble him anymore and I had to change it. Some tweaking was done but I can confidently say that I'm happier with him than ever and I'm sorry but I'm going to keep gushing about it <333

I never really had OCs before him, so in a sense he's my ever first one, which gives him a special place in my heart. It's taken so long to get here in terms of allowing myself to love him as much as I truly do and not feel weighed down by other people's opinions, and it's really improved my relationship to my creative ideas as well.

Why do you continue to watch Neverafter and make posts about it when you seem to really dislike the choices the players are making? I'm genuinely interested, i'm not trying to be catty, it's just I personally drop seasons if I dislike the choices the players are making (did that with SSO) whereas you seem really frustrated by their choices but are still watching?

I'm just interested in why you still watch, because I think that's a really interesting difference! Not trying to criticise your choice at all, just curious to your reasoning, if you feel like sharing! (once again, really really hope this doesn't come off as mean, it's a genuine question and I hope I haven't been accidentally rude)

HI SO I ACTUALLY LOVE THIS QUESTION (and don't worry you're all good i understand the curiosity!)

first and foremost, at least for me my posts aren't like. an accurate representation of my overall feelings on an episode bc ur getting a sampling bias of my Strong Enough To Post thoughts. genuinely i have a very good time watching these episodes!! like i think i broke something laughing during pinnochio and cinderella's conversation. and thats mainly why i watch d20! love to laugh and giggle and chuckle etc, i just don't really feel the need to post "wow that was a good joke i'm having fun" bc i feel like that's my baseline d20 experience?

on another level, my greatest passion in this cold world is digging into the themes and intentions of a story and laying everything out and seeing how it works!! critique (or even just kvetching) isn't really an expression of dislike or distaste for me, it's an expression of love--that i care about something enough to figure out what it's trying to do on a thematic level, and analyze where i think it's falling short! i have a whole post ranking which d20 seasons i would do a fullscale rewrite on lmfao--and another key point from that post is that like. while there is Some level of general frustration when stories fail to achieve their full ~potential~ or whatever, it's never something i direct at the players themselves? because like. they're doing comedy improv. of course it's not going to produce the most thematically coherent decisions (unless its TUC, love you TUC, you're perfect). this is why im posting about it on my silly blog instead of like tweeting at them or whatever lol. honestly if i'm exhibiting Frustration its probably at people i see in the tag refusing to entertain more complicated takes. but i could probably stand to chill a bit about that sooo

Hi! I love going through your ADHD tag. A lot of it is so informative but I like reading your personal experiences and seeing that I'm not the only one feeling the way I am. So, thank you for putting that out there! I had a question for you regarding the diagnosis of ADHD and, please if you feel uncomfortable or don't want to answer, please feel free to just ignore this! For over 5-6 years, I've been quite sure that I have ADHD. However, in the past (and currently, actually) I haven't been in a position to seek out a therapist or get a diagnosis. I've also heard it's really expensive to get a diagnosis. Would you be okay with talking about how you found someone to talk to about a potential diagnosis and what the process of getting a diagnosis looks like? I found some stuff online but it's been pretty vague and generally along the lines of "it differs on a case-by-case basis." Thank you, again, for the tag and for all the stuff you write! <3

Hey there Anon! Happy to share my experience.

Ok, so here's the privileges I had which might mitigate the value of my advice in some situations but 1) I'm in the US (specifically, the northeast) where ADHD is taken pretty seriously and while not spoken of openly in all professional circles, getting a diagnosis in most cases doesn't run up against cultural taboos that would prevent treatment 2) I have health insurance through my job and 3) I was in a position to seek therapy when I got my diagnosis for unrelated life stuff. It was the therapist who referred me to a psychiatrist who got me meds and later I found this AMAZING psychiatrist in my area who helped me work through multiple medications until I found the right fit (however, she had a 4 month waitlist before I could work with her. Worth it! But I had an ongoing prescription during that time, I just wasn't sure it was the right one).

Gonna cut here to go into more specifics:

- I was diagnosed when I mentioned to my therapist (while pretty much shaking with fear that I would look like some kind of amphetamine addict looking for a fix or a kid looking for party drugs) that I kinda sorta maybe had ADHD destroying my life and she basically went, "Oh yeah, that's been obvious since Day 1 when you wouldn't look me in the eye while speaking." So... lol, basically you're probably not nearly as subtle as you think to a trained professional if you have it.

- When I dared to ask if she could help me get medication her response was, "Yeah, sure, here's a number, call them and tell them I sent you as a referral." It was that difficult.

- That person kinda sucked and there's a bunch of annoying bureaucracy BUT when I mentioned this to my general practitioner doctor he was like "If they suck I can hold you over with prescriptions until you find a new person." No, he did not question me. Literally no actual medically trained person I've ever spoken to has shown any concern that I might be lying or faking or whatever, they've all be scrupulously helpful and even apologetic at all the hoops.

- The first time I tried Adderall I had a near out-of-body experience with how easy life suddenly became. Fear of emails just melted away. I got a week's worth of work that had been HAUNTING me done in an afternoon. HOWEVER, that level of euphoria only happened the one time, and that's pretty universal that you'll cry with relief the first time you use it then if you don't get the right medication you will chase that high incorrectly. For me, the correct medication turned out to be extended-release, 25 mg (relatively low) generic adderall and this is after a year of the "fancier" Vyvanse that was supposed to be smoother (and it was, compared to single release adderall which made me want to chew nails I was so stressed).

- The downside with ANY single release for me though, it turned out (even relatively smooth Vyvanse) was that when I crashed at the end of the day I absolutely craved alcohol, or sugar, some kind of pick-me-up. I thought I was an alcoholic. I was legit scared by how bad I needed alcohol at the end of the day, until I switched to slow release and the cravings just melted away. I still like drinking but the craving went away once I was no longer crashing and I've been so much better since.

- My advice to people is: if your circumstances don't preclude you (financially, culturally, etc.) drop a few inquiries to psychiatrists in your area. They will not laugh at you. They will not report you. Just say you think you have ADHD and you'd like professional help seeing if your self-diagnosis is correct and getting medication if so (which is why you need a psychiatrist, not a therapist. Therapists can't necessarily get you a prescription). Every medical professional I've worked with has been enormously helpful and understanding, your brain is lying to you when it says you're going to get arrested or something for just asking. That is dumb. That is desperation-brain, not reality.

Put out a few requests so if someone is overloaded or busy you have backups. You will have to do a couple scary professional emails or calls, maybe speak to your insurance, but I PROMISE you it is worth it. The light at the end of the tunnel is you have to do this one scary thing but the reward is this thing will never be scary again after.

And it is totally, totally worth it.

You fanned your hands down the playsuit you wore. It was of a bold royal blue shade and fell delicately with bell sleeves on your arms. Normally, you couldn't wear something like this. But, today, you wanted to make the most of your opportunity to do so.

A gentle knock at the door disrupts you.

"Miss (Y/l/n), the car is waiting outside for when you are ready," Your main assistant bows their head politely.

"Thank you, I think I'm ready now," You smile, collecting your purse from the side and slipping your flats on.

"You look beautiful," She beams - having brought you up for most of your life, it was moments like these where she truly felt proud of her work.

You let her follow behind you consciously as you descended the winding staircase down to wear the doors led to an awaiting car.

"Thank you, Steve," You smile to the man holding the car door open as you step inside.

"Off to anywhere nice, ma'am?" The driver asks from the front seat - he was young and evidently new. You hadn't seen him before.

"Lewis!" Steve exclaims, bowing his head to you, "I am tremendously sorry mi-"

"Don't worry about it, thank you," You nod and wait for your loyal worker to close the door, "I'm actually going to a date,"

Lewis shuffles in his seat, evidently shaken by his mistakes.

"I'm pretty nervous if I'm honest," You chuckle, lightening the tense mood as he sets off, "I haven't been on a date in a while,"

"Are you allowed on dates? I thought they just put you with someone else royal," Lewis frowns, his inquisition taking hold over his bashfulness.

"It's not the eighteenth century anymore. The royals have changed since then," You comment, "In fact, my brothers are just as protective and irritating as any normal brothers would be,"

Lewis snorts, "I'm sure the security guards are too,"

You smirk - it always made you feel a slight sense of joy when someone didn't treat you like they'd be destroyed if they bowed incorrectly or they asked the wrong question. Realistically, you were still a twenty-two year old British girl who just wanted to go out and see a pretty damn handsome boy.

"We're here, Miss (Y/l/n)," Lewis states, something Steve had most definitely taught him from his many years of practice.

"Thank you, and I hope to see you again soon," You smile, watching as your bodyguard opens the door for you to step out.

"Don't worry, we're staying well back, just as long as we're close enough to see you," She nods, clasping her hands together and glancing to the other female beside her, "Who knows, we could even be on a date,"

You smile, "Thank you ladies,"

It is as you turn around that you see the boy who looked as though he'd been waiting forever. He was dressed in fitted black jeans and a button up blue shirt with a dark tie hanging perfectly down the length of his torso. An image of making an effort.

You head over and watch as he turns to see you. The flowers in his hand drop a little as his grip weakens and his lips drop just slightly open, his eyes trailing your form.

"(Y/n), you look-" He stops himself, scratching at the back of his neck, "You look beautiful,"

It makes you blush and you definitely don't mind, "Thank you, you look great too. I hope I didn't keep you too long,"

He scoffs and you can tell he is just as nervous as you are, "No, no, I've only been waiting a few minutes,"

"So, what do you have planned?" You ask him, something you'd been anticipating ever since he'd first asked you on this date.

"I thought we'd take a walk through the park," He says, gesturing to the empty green behind him, "You said you liked low-key,"

"That sounds perfect," You grin, stepping forward to meet his position.

"Oh, and these are for you," He mumbles, lifting the sunflowers in his hands to you, "I didn't know which would be your favourite and ros-"

"Roses are too cliché," You finish for him, "These are beautiful, thank you,"

He extends an arm to hold the gate open for you and you set off into a matching pace down the concrete path through the now silent park. Thankfully, your bodyguards stick to their word and remain a fair distance away.

"So, tell me more about yourself Tom," You begin, evidently taking place for the silence that had formed thanks to his unmoving nerves.

"Well, I grew up here in England of course. I'm pretty close with my family, three brothers. I'm an actor, obviously, an-" He stops his words once again, "And I sound like I'm writing a CV or something. I'm sorry," The laugh he lets out is one you already find an adoration in.

"Maybe that was a bad question," You laugh with him and it feels like both of your nerves evaporate into the welcome chill of the evening air.

There's a silence again and it seems so strange to you that there is no uncomfort in the lack of sound.

"I was so nervous for tonight," Tom mentions, and you watch the way he stuffs his hands into his pockets.

"Me too," You assure him, clasping your hands in front of you.

"Are you kidding?" He exclaims, "What did you have to be nervous about?"

You shake your head, "You're a very prestigious actor, Tom. It's intimidating to date someone with the film credits you have, let alone the fanbase,"

"No offence or anything, but you are literally a Princess. Like an actual part of the royal family," He bursts into a boyish chuckle, "That's beyond any nerves I could give you, believe me,"

"You don't need to be intimidated," You reassure him but notice the way he quickly flicks his eyes to the two women that had been following your every move, "They're soft really. Just protective,"

He nods and you see him wipe his hands on his jeans, "We're just over here,"

You frown and glance over to where he was gesturing to see the set-up he had got ready for the night, "Wh-"

"Okay, so I was going to go for an afternoon tea thing but then I figured you pro-" He stops himself and you see the noticeable blush on his cheeks.

"Probably have that all the time?" You laugh, "You couldn't be more right!"

"Okay!" He clasps his hands like it is a sign of his relief, "So I went for chocolate fondue!"

And it takes off from there. You settle into an evening of chattering away about everything possible. You learnt more and more of the random oddities that made up Thomas Holland and he learnt of the things behind your regal reputation. He made you feel like an extraordinary kind of normal and you couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to experience normality.

"This evening has been incredible, Tom. Really, thank you," You smile, lifting your head up to see him from where you lay on the picnic mat.

He props himself up into his elbow and turns to face you, "I'm glad I didn't disappoint,"

"Definitely not," You chuckle and push yourself up onto your forearms to match his height.

In a moment of prolonged silence, you know what happens now. Its obvious to see - the way both of your eyes flick between eyes and lips, the way your heads edge gently closer to each other, the way he shuffled a little more over to your side. And then the final connection. His lips on yours in a calm, long awaited kiss. Your noses bump just a little and even that little contact trickles an electric excitement into your childish joy. He tasted of strawberries and the shadows of melted chocolate that had remained on his lips.

"Princess knows how to kiss," He mumbles against your lips as you pull away thanks to the irritating need for air.

You smirk and gently push your nose against his, "Careful Thomas, don't make too many assumptions about us royals,"

"You're full of surprises, Miss (Y/l/n)," He smiles, pecking your lips once more like the break had already felt too elongated.

You feel selfish to want to keep him here forever - to keep all of his perfection to yourself. But it comes to an inevitable end as he climbs into the waiting Uber and you into the royal car waiting with security to follow. A true image of your blending juxtapositions.

It feels like an unwelcome comfort to return home - realising you'd felt more yourself in those few hours than you ever did as part of the pride and joy of Britain.

"So?" Your elder brother is waiting at the bottom of the stairs, the shadows of his ginger hair darkened by his recent shower, "Is he anything like spiderman?"

You laugh and make your way past him, "A princess never tells, Harry,"

“If you could pick 5 members to be on your team in the dark tournament, who would it be?”

So while I was going back through my archives trying to see if I had any incorrectly flagged content (I scrolled all the way to 2015, found three, and gave up/went to bed lol), I kept getting distracted and rereading old posts out of amusement. One of them was this 21 Questions Yu Yu Hakusho meme - and one question in particular made the gears of my brain clank so I thought hey, why not? Let’s answer it.

I'm going to tackle this question from two angles.

A) If I could pick ANY characters in Yu Yu Hakusho to form a team.

B) If I could only pick characters who appear during the actual Dark Tournament.

As soon as you see my first list, you'll understand why I was like, “oh.” and opted to do it again from B lmao.

(Oh yeah my tags spoil everything but oh well. Hope the rationale makes up for it hahaha)

VERSION A: Fun times

Raizen.

I'm sorry, the tournament is over now, thank you for coming. Seriously though, he's Yusuke with a million times more firepower and brains/experience. Also, one of the appeals of Yusuke is that he makes fighting fun, which is why everyone wants to go up against him. Raizen's friends express the exact same sentiment repeatedly. Raizen in his prime in battle would be a sight to see. He'd be all DID SOMEBODY SAY FIGHTING?? YEAH I'LL FIGHT ALL THE FIGHTS WAHOO and nobody would be able to get him off the arena platform. If there is an arena platform left. Or an arena. Or anything.

Enki.

Jolly uncle/all-round good dude, I love him. He also loves fighting, so he is also lots of fun. He seems much more cool-headed and practical than Raizen, and definitely takes the lead in coordinating the rest of Raizen's pals. Thus, he's a great wingman for Raizen. If you somehow actually manage to defeat Raizen- haha, what am I talking about? OK, if Raizen slept in or something, then you can fight Enki. And in that case the tournament is still over.

Kokou.

LOVES FIGHTING AND WILL KICK YOUR ASS. Even Enki was relieved he didn't have to face her. I firmly believe after Raizen she's the strongest - or at least one of the strongest - out of all of Raizen's already insanely powerful friends. Honestly, between Raizen and Kokou they'd probably just take everybody down, including each other, and have a blast.

Obviously no one is surprised at this pick on my blog. Also loves fighting, plus super duper reliable, he's perfect support for anything. Along with Enki, he'd help temper Raizen and Kokou's wild party. And somebody needs to clean up after all the mess and make sure everybody gets first aid and whatever. Well, first aid for the other team they just massacred, I guess.

One more Raizen friend: Natsume.

We could put another one of Raizen's friends here, but I pick Natsume because we know a lot more about her and she's so badass and we should have more women. Also, because she's very clearly another great mashup of LOVES FIGHTING and NOT STUPID, as a fifth member, she can easily step in to fill any of the others' shoes, whether it's happily beat the crap out of everything in sight or be calm and strategize. If anybody ever actually needed to be filled in for some reason.

I call this amazingness Team Old People. IMO this team is flawless because they would just be so damn entertaining on so many levels. You have five extremely powerful and smart warriors with centuries of experience who have nothing to prove aside from sheer enjoyment of battle. Every one of them has expressed a passion for fighting because it's simply a joy for them, which means they wouldn't be playing it safe/boring. Seeing a master in action at practically anything is awesome, and not only that but they’d be willing to experiment and take risks and do things that are out there. A tournament is also a form of entertainment for the audience (both the real life audience and the one in the show), and that combined with their expert level combat skills means that I think they'd be so fantastic to watch. And all of them have distinct personalities that balance "I am an ancient demon with wisdom and stuff" VS "I love punching people (or getting punched) in the face!!" in different enough ways that they still offer really interesting character dynamics and interaction opportunities. And they would also be incredibly supportive of each other while still allowing for plenty of snark.

That said, FUN FUN FUN aside, the very obvious problem with this team is that they seriously break the question. And everything else. Even if they don’t intend to flat out obliterate everything, that’s what would probably happen, and that unfortunately can easily head towards its own kind of boring. Everyone would be like "why are we having a tournament, we're going home". So, we must leave Team Old People behind and move on to version B.

VERSION B: Serious business

Dark Tournament characters only. I will exclude members of the Toguro Team from my selection for obvious reasons. NO MORE FUN TIME. This is me pretending that I'm some rich underworld dude or whatever putting together a team I'm betting on to get through the tournament. You're going to see a clear pattern emerging from my picks.

Genkai.

The veteran. Intelligent, experienced, very powerful and pragmatic. I'd shell out big bucks to get her to come back to be my team's captain. No question for me, she's a must, even if all she does is sit on the sidelines and coach the rest of the team. With a group of serious, motivated and talented fighters, she'd be the best mentor and my team would be well-positioned to MAKE ME LOTS OF MONEY SO IN YOUR SMOKY SCARRED FACE SAKYO

Hiei.

Those who know me may find it shocking that I'm including Hiei but not Yusuke, Kuwabara, or Kurama. Hiei doesn't appear on my tumblr very often, and of the four main characters he's probably the one I'm least emotionally invested in. But if you're assembling a team for the Dark Tournament, you're IN IT TO WIN IT!! And Hiei is the best bet. I shall explain.

Hiei is efficient and effective, and his success ratio is the highest out of all Urameshi Team members - the most number of individual fights without a single loss or draw. Granted, he sits out for a chunk of the tournament, but he rarely appears worn out at the end of a fight. The only time he overexerts himself is against Zeru; after his recovery, he never seems to break a sweat. Even against Bui, he had no real issues. From a betting perspective, his odds are very, very good. Kuwabara and Kurama both experience multiple losses - Kuwabara often because he's young and overconfident or becomes so personally involved that he cares more for a positive outcome for other people than for winning; Kurama often because (as Hiei notes) he tends to overcalculate the situation and draw things out so long figuring everything out that it turns into a disadvantage. Yusuke's very strong and has huge potential, but he's also focused far too much on the experience. This makes his battles fun to watch but would give a strategist heart attacks. Many of his fights involve near-misses or less-than-ideal situations stemming from amateur errors. And finally, he gets dinged with a draw in his match with Jin, in part because his dawdling on the field made the deception feasible. Yusuke's great for drama and storytelling, not great for the comfort of my pocketbook. Having him on a team is risky when I know the other underworld bosses I'm competing against are not above using underhanded tactics.

As a result, based on a purely practical evaluation, Hiei is the most reliable choice. He's very focused on, and very good at, the one thing I want - DEFEAT THE OPPONENT UNEQUIVOCALLY. He comes in and tears people apart and there's no chance of an ambiguous referee call. He just needs his team members to be people he can respect to keep him in line. With Genkai as captain, that shouldn't be an issue. Nor with the rest of my picks.

Ryo (Kai in the anime) / M-3.

This is the Dr. Ichigaki member with the invisible claw powers. After their fight, he offers to be a replacement for the seriously injured Kuwabara (Yusuke appreciates it but has to turn him down because it's against the rules unless Kuwabara actually dies). He seems to be the strongest of the three students who were brainwashed by Ichigaki, and without Genkai's intervention and his own struggling against Ichigaki's mechanism, he would very likely have wiped out Kuwabara and Yusuke. He's extremely serious and dedicated, and with someone like Genkai steering the helm I think he'd go far. I'd be comfortable putting money on him. I also like him a lot and wish he had more involvement in the story - I've always felt that if Togashi didn’t need to get Koenma in for story purposes Yusuke hadn't been so freaked out and completely lost mentally when Genkai died, he probably would've asked Ryo to be the replacement fifth member. SOMEONE WRITE THIS

Touya.

Stronger than Gama, less arrogant than Risho, more reliable than Jin (who has many of the same problems as Yusuke), and Bakken sucks and will never be considered by anybody. Touya's powers are also very flexible. Somebody just needs to tell him to NOT TALK TO HIS OPPONENT. Don't talk to them, don't listen to them, don't let them distract you, don't let them get into your head, JUST GET IN THERE AND EYE ON THE PRIZE AND BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THEM OKAY lol. I also think when Genkai was training everyone for Kurama, Touya was probably the one who gave her the least hard time. I mean, out of Touya, Jin, Chuu, Rinku, Suzuki and Shishiwakamaru who do YOU think would bellyache the least? I thought so.

The fifth member is actually a backup/alternate who doesn't necessarily see action (if you recall, this is why Chuu was mad). For my final pick, I took a while to decide, so I'll tell you about both of the last two people I was considering since I enjoy any excuse to talk about characters I don’t usually see mentioned.

5a is Zeru. 

OK, partly I considered him because nobody remembers him lmao - he was Hiei's first victory, obliterated into a shadow by Hiei's training-wheels Kokuryuuha. But if you look at my other picks, I think you'll appreciate why he's on my radar - he fits the profile of what I'm looking for very nicely. I want someone in control of themselves; who is a reliable, consistent, focused fighter unlikely to get distracted by other things; who clearly demonstrates power and is committed and has potential to grow really fast with the right direction/team captain. The only thing is that with Hiei already on the team, this may be duplicating the skillset and the mental profile a bit too much. And I think it's clear Hiei already has the upperhand in baseline power. So,

5b is Suzuki. 

His strength isn't fighting. It's his ingenuity in adapting, augmenting, and outfitting his team members with really good, really creative tools. 24. do you want to change your name: Ahaha, I’ve already changed my name. I used to go by my middle name and then started going by my first when I changed schools. I’ve changed my last name too. I’d make a mediocre spy.

25. what did you do for your last birthday: On my actual birthday, I got lunch with friends out and then had dinner made for me by other friends/my surrogate family (they made me steak) And then that weekend I went out for drinks with friends and my favorite bar tender bought me a round and gave me the special pint glass. It was a great birthday week.
