“This is the worst day of my life,” Ranpo grumbles, hand held tightly in Kunikida’s as she guides them through the streets, leading them back in the direction of the Agency. They sniff. “I’m gonna get sick.”

“You were the one who decided to go out on your own,” Kunikida reminds them. It’s true, but did she seriously need to point that out? Ranpo thought they could find the bakery on their own. They were just there two days ago with Dazai and Atsushi. But they must have taken a wrong turn, and then before they could figure out where they were, it started raining, and now Ranpo is soaking wet.

“And you’re the one who didn’t bring an umbrella,” they bite back.

“You told me to come as quickly as possible, and my umbrella is in my dorm.”

Ranpo groans. They hate when Kunikida makes points they can’t argue with. “Well I’m still cold and wet and I don’t like it! Why are we still so far away?!”

Kunikida sighs. She slows to a stop, and Ranpo follows suit, though they can’t imagine why they’ve stopped walking when they’re very clearly not back inside the Agency office with a very nice roof over their heads.

“If I kiss you, will that make up for the lack of an umbrella and the long walk back?”

Ranpo considers this. It won’t dry them or stop the rain, but they’re not stupid enough to pass up such a golden opportunity. They sigh. “I guess, maybe. Two kisses. One now, and one when we’re back at the office.”

“Very well,” Kunikida agrees. She leans down, pressing her lips to Ranpo’s. The rain continues pouring around them, but for just a moment, Ranpo feels impossibly warm.

26. a kiss while one or both parties are crying + lucygin

Lucy scrubs at her eyes furiously, vainly attempting to stop her tears before they can roll down her cheeks. She hates crying, especially in front of other people, especially in front of Gin. But she’s running on two hours of fitful sleep and she’s exhausted and there’s still so much to do and she doesn’t even know if Atsushi and the others are alive, and—

“Hey,” Gin interrupts, voice soft and slightly muffled by their mask. They cup Lucy’s cheek, tilting her head up so she’s forced to look at them. Their eyebrows are furrowed in concern.

“Sorry, sorry, I just—”

Gin places a finger over Lucy’s lips, cutting her off. She sniffles.

Gin lowers their mask, then leans forward and presses their lips to Lucy’s. The kiss is short, but tender and caring, and it says more than Gin’s words alone ever could. It’s a promise, that no matter what happens, they will both be okay. They have gone through trials and tribulations time and time again, and the world has yet to destroy either of them.

“Thank you,” Lucy mumbles once they’ve separated. Gin smiles softly. They kiss Lucy’s forehead, then lift their mask back into its rightful place. “I’ll— I’ll be okay.”

Gin nods. “Your tears do not make you weak. You are one of the strongest people I have met.”

Through the tears still staining her cheeks, Lucy manages to smile.
