i was just curious as to how you feel about jon bernthal consistently mentioning how important punisher is to cops and the military? not trying to make him out to be ~problematic~ by any means but was just curious on your thoughts

HMMMMMMMMM good question

I can’t speak on the cops bit too much but I do know he talked about wanting to do right by veterans, which is fine by me because even though I hate the military I support veterans because they’ve gotten completely shafted, especially disabled vets. I guarantee if college were free we wouldn’t have as many young people joining, and it’s no coincidence that military recruiters target low-income areas.

As an aside, I kinda don’t get into the tumblr thing of expecting celebrities to be spokes people for the rest of us. They’re isolated from the rest of society in a lot of ways and end up in this artificial bubble that keeps them from really understanding what’s going on with the rest of us. That doesn’t excuse abusive or bad behavior of course and people should be called out on their shit, but I don’t expect any celebrity to have my best interests at heart or to be knowledgeable about how bad shit really is for the rest of us.

 I love Jon as an actor and I hope he doesn’t do anything horrible and at the very least has the sense to say “I don’t know enough about this subject to say anything about it”, but there are no guarantees. I kinda get nervous when people place so much expectations on celebrities to be wonderfully aware and infallible because then they end up being devastated when said celebrity fucks up. I’ve been guilty of that myself so now I’m a bit more tempered in how I see celebs, even ones as seemingly cool as Jon.

It’s important to remember at the end of the day these people are entertainers and a lot of the time are just saying what they think will be agreeable to most people because that’s their job, to be agreeable. And I think he was saying what he thought would be respectful because yeah, the Punisher has become a sort of figurehead among police and the military…unfortunately for the wrong reasons. At the same time, I wonder if he did that because they were expecting some of the backlash we’ve been seeing on twitter of “OMG PUNISHER IS KILLING MILITARY AND COPS FLGFDGFDDF!!!!!! OUTRAGE!!!1″ and because Marvel wants to cover their asses. 

Sorry this answer came out way longer and more rambly than I had hoped for, but that’s what I get for answering asks when tired pffft. One thing for sure is that I am really looking forward to seeing his version of Frank taking out corruption, even if it is making dudebros assmad.
