what did cathy's friends think of ellis? were they a hang out in a group type of couple or hang out just on their own? how big was the wedding?

cathy and ellis were very much a hang out on their own couple, but they have both met each others friends and has the occasional outing with another couple. they tended to prefer things with just the two of them though. despite having a lot of connections, they both weren't the kind to have big parties or outings with lots of people. they also very much considered each other their best friend.

meeting in the homestay program, it was them and another two people + the family they were working for. they all sorta were friendly over the summer, definitely shared meals and memories, but it was the sort of connection that really is just for a certain duration and in a context. ellis went on to work at that farm for much longer so he did get closer with those who stayed behind, but cathy went back to school where she had her friends.

cathy's friends are a small group of women who bonded over being the small minority that they were in their math and computer classes. some were just on the two year degree track, others on the four, but they bonded well. in total it was about six of them, which then went down to five after the first year and cathy was closest to just two. they all heard about ellis when catching up on their summers, and the first time that he visits her college is when they all go out for lunch. overall impression is that he's sweet and considering he drove all the way there they like him. they do think he's a good match for her because as independent as she is, he's very insistent but doesn't encroach on her. there's a clear amount of respect from him

cathy's got an additional friend or two from high school and back home who also got to meet ellis when he visited and met her parents for the first time. they were all pretty charmed by him, but they kind of assumed she'd meet someone at college so that was at least a little surprise. i think if you asked a lot of people who knew cathy who they imagined her with or who they might set her up with they would struggle a little to think of someone they think could work well alongside her stubborn independence.

the wedding is on the small side. there's maybe 30-40 people in total including family, friends from schools and farms, and some other obligatory invitees.
