I took the time to read youe cod article (also fucking love sterling). The complacency about all this horrible predatory shit is so prevalent and I am no expection. It drives me insane sometime, like I enjoy slop as much as the next girl but surely you cant think all of this is good right? Like people defend the cash shop in ffxiv for fucks sake, a game with a subscription model and paid for expansions! Apparently hating the AAA market is contrarian now, I feel the vocal minority of the gaming landscape lends itself to contradictions. open world games have a problem with being big and empty but dw elden ring and botw is fine right?

sorry for the rant just I feel like im crazy about this whole thing (I like your article voice btw!) I play osrs and it feels unreal how it has yet to lend itself to overt predatory marketing (bonds, rs3 nonwithstanding, im also aware it runs on a subscription model)

The culture that's been fostered is maddening, genuinely. It drives me up the nearest wall to see the steady sea of 8/10 reviews and constant news of layoffs and people STILL want to talk about how "the next zelda game is gonna be so cool" when its gonna be 70$ on a machine that costs $500 to run it properly because the switch 1 runs on 2012 hardware. Its nuts! The whole "let people have fun" argument kinda falls apart when you start asking people if theyre even having fun! It's not about being guilty for things like playing popular games. I myself have 1200+ hours in FFXIV, none of which I've ever paid for more than the service and expansions, but sometimes good video games and video games as art are inseparable from a price tag. The real rotting meat of the problem lies in the fact that mainstream console culture still exists like it did in the 7th generation where people are sold the idea that the new thing is the best thing because look at how good it looks! That's not even to mention the over-dominance of action games in the mainstream landscape spheres. But just look at all the "major" franchises! Look at sports games! Look at racing games! Either nonexistent or almost entirely non-functioning! But they're sold like they're the only thing you'll ever be able to play and people believe that! It really is a matter of people needing to THINK more about what they play. I don't want to just sit here and call people stupid. I don't think your average person is, far from it. But I DO think that your average "gamer" is just too uncritical of the things going on. The amount of decay in the industry has skyrocketed to unbelievably unsustainable levels and its only getting worse. WHEW, sorry for that. I am sooooo long term insane about star wars it's my favvvv

Star Wars is such a fun puddle to splash in because it has such HUGE worldbuilding, and such interesting characters. There are almost 50 years of movies, books, TV, comics, and whatever else people could dream about! The world fascinates me - how all these people, all these cultures interact. Who are the jedi to the everyday people? To the mandalorians? To the republic? To their friends? How do they move through this world, and how do they change it? (You can tell I'm a big fan of the prequel era lmao the jedi are sooooo cool)

my current star wars obsession(I was really into it as a kid too) was kicked off by watching the clone wars series - the relationship between the individual clones, the clones and the jedi, and the clones and the people there were made to protect fascinates me! The clones and the jedi in particular. The clones were made for the jedi - to fight for them, to die for them, and in the end, to kill them. That relationship has so many places it can go, and I will never tire of reading about it.

To me, star wars is about the people - its through their stories that we discover the world and its particularities, and in their stories that we find joy and hope and fear and anticipation and a thousand other feelings I couldn't begin to name. The worldbuilding is a lattice on which to grow characters - a framework to give them a past, motivations, dreams and fears. Star wars has this amazing worldbuilding and such interesting characters and so, so many holes to jump them though.

Funnily enough, my favorite scene in all of star wars has nothing to do with ANY of this. My favorite scene in all of star wars is in the empire strikes back, during the battle of hoth. Its when Luke takes down the at-at by wrapping cables - when the at-at begins to fall, they cut to a stop motion view and it makes me go crazyyyy every time!!! I love practical effects and this one in particular is so stinkin cool!!!!

"what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?"

Okay, so. Picture it: it's the plot of Bridges of Madison County (specifically the musical) with Gilded Age characters. Aurora is, of course, Francesca. Sylvia is the free-spirit photographer she falls in love with. Anne is Francesca's nosy neighbor (who is, in this instance, deeply in love with Aurora because why not?). I have the entire plot worked out in my head. This time last year I was all set to write a soaring love story with everything I adore: angst, pining, doomed romance. And then I began the unique hell that is apartment hunting in Manhattan and lost every scrap of willpower to do it. I am the only one capable of writing this extremely niche crossover, and alas, I am never going to do it. The moment hast passed. I've moved on. I have so many story ideas and this one just won't make it out alive.

Bonus answer: the original concept for Follies was a murder mystery musical, and I desperately wish we'd also gotten a Sondheim murder musical because if we ever had, I would have made it my entire personality. But if the consequence of not getting a murder musical was getting Follies instead, I'll take Follies any day of the week.

Enoch is Not a morning person. He's not a waking up person in general, but he especially hates waking up in the morning because he never goes to sleep early. The first thing he does when he wakes up is probably bathroom related. With Secondo, if he's in bed with him, he'll kiss him before getting up to use the bathroom. Post March 2018, though, he just lays in bed for a while before he's able to get up.

Favourite cake flavour? Are they specific about cake types?

He's not the biggest fan of cake. If he had to chose, it would probably be a lemon layer cake, but its not his favorite dessert.

What will always lure them into certain danger? A loved one in danger? A promise of something they are always searching for.

It's easier to say what wouldn't lure him into danger. His father, first and foremost. If his father asks, he will do it. He has to. But when it comes to those he cares about, it isn't even a second thought. He can't die, he doesn't care if he's hurt in the process. But when if they're hurt, he will (and does) feel endlessly guilty for not being enough to save them.

What do people assume about them? Are they right?

The general consensus is that first impressions of Enoch are angry, offended, scared, or all three. So, people assume he is quite literally a monster. They aren't correct, not really. He's complicated, and those he hunts and kills are often monsters themselves. Of course, people's perceptions of what makes a monster are different. He could very well be one.

Follies (I would commit murder for a maximalist Follies revival, and the concert happening next month will send me into orbit)

Gypsy (Audra Mama Rose when?)

Sweeney Todd (but specifically any production *except* the latest Broadway revival)

Passion (I have the original lobby board in my home so it better fucking be in my top five)

The Last of Sheila (not a musical, but I cannot stress enough how much I adore this weird murder mystery. 10/10 would recommend)

There are no Sondheim shows I actively dislike; merely shows I have yet to accept into my heart. That being said:

I didn't care much for The Frogs in concert when I saw it. Delightful music, but a depressing lack of women.

Even hearing the songs in cabaret for years, I was still utterly taken aback by Evening Primrose. Fascinating, but I don't need to rewatch it.

Specifically the ill-fated recent West Side Story revival. Awful direction and production concept. America with no skirts to swish around? Blasphemy. I don't want to watch them do that dance while dressed in modern sports bras and leggings.

In the same vein as The Frogs, having read through the lyrics and synopsis in the Hat Box set, I don't know if I'd care much for Bounce/Wise Guys/Road Show, though if I'd seen the Encores! production with Mary Beth Phil, that might have changed things.

God, I hated that recent Sweeney Todd revival. And I especially hated the continued casting blunders. I will die on that hill.
